I have personally seen the problem and corrected it on numerous models now including the 4S, 4, 3GS and iPad 2s.  Corrupt system level settings created by an iOS 5 bug in the original release that caused battery recalibration issues, etc.  Just installing the update does not fix the issue in most cases (sometime it initially can be worse).  You need to clear out those settings and recalibate the battery.  For those still having the "standby battery drain" issue follow the procedure below in order.  It does fix the problem in most cases.
Go through these steps to address the battery after updating to iOS 5.0.1:
1. Reset all settings (settings app-> general-> reset)
2. Go through initial setup steps (lang, wifi, siri, enable location, etc) and choose setup as new phone (don't worry your apps, data, contacts, mail will still be there). At this point, Do NOT restore from iCloud or iTunes (It can copy back corrupt settings)
3. Turn off system location services timezone and iAd
4. Fully discharge battery  (till it shuts off with the spinning wheel)
5. Fully recharge battery (overnight if possible)
In my experience this improves the standby battery drain issue significantly in most cases.  It reduces drain from 2-4% or more per hr to 0.5% or less. It has worked for many, many users now... not all, but most. If it does not work after a few try's you may have a real battery or hardware issue and should contact Apple.  Good Luck!

  • How to fix Battery Drain on iPod Touch 4th generation

    Hello,
I own an iPod Touch 4th generation, I have had it since August of 2012. It seems like I need to charge it everyday. I get around 12 hours of Standby and only 4 hours of Use. Is there anyway I can get my iPod to last 2 or 3 days? It used to last longer before I updated it to IOS 6.1.3.
    Thanks so much,

how to fix error 21 my iphone doesnt work what should i do????

    Hello,
I found this article that should help you out:
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
It says the following about Error 21:
These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.
    Hope that helps,
    David

  • Does iOS6.1 help with the increased battery drain on iPhone 4s that iOS6.0 presented?

Does anyone know if the iOS6.1 does anything to remedy the increased battery drain on iPhone 4s that was presented with iOS6.0?

I upgraded to ios 6.1 when it first came out a couple of weeks ago and in the last 2 days am experiencing rapid battery drain...not sure if that's the cause.

how to fix black screen on iphone 5 , can someone answer me , please !?

To solve most of iPhone os problems you can perform a soft reset which will not change anything inside the phone
    It'll simply remove the errors
    To do that
1.Hold power button for 5 seconds
2.without releasing power button press home button and keep both pressed till the apple logo comes up
    3.Now release both buttons
Your phone has now been reset

  • Battery Drains In IPhone 5s In IOS 8.1.1

    Hi All ,
I'm Using Apple I Phone 5s White 32gb , Using 2G data That Too Very Rare..
But After Updating To IOS 8.1.1 My Battery Get Drained Superbly
My Phone Stand By Is Only 6Hours And 45 Minutes Only,
Changed Battery From Store Also , No Help ,
Seems There Is A Problem In IOS 8.1.1..
We Need This To Be Fixed In Coming Update , R Else Apple Will Lose A Old Customer ..
Is Any One Having The Same Problem ?

I answered extensively in another forum.  Here is my reply.  I understand apple released today 8.1.2. I will check if it solves the issue.  I have the same problem with battery drain on stand by at 7 hours after doing everything you can read below. Hope it helps
I had the same issue with iphone 5s (32gb) i upgraded as soon as the 8.1.1 came out and i suddenly saw the battery drain like crazy. In mid morning i was down to 40% and in the early afternoon gone.   I left it at night running on sleep mode and the battery was drained who knows when. I normally when i have 40-50% I leave it and in the morning i have a few percentage points left....but never nothing !1
My wife is running the same phone on "8.02" and I did not upgrade hers, and no issues with battery drain there.  Now she refuses to let me touch her phone in case i upgrade and screw up hers too!.. she is right in not trusting these upgrades. !
I tried all the tips and tricks that you read all over the web to stop drainage...from background refresh, to motion reduce, location, notifications...etc...believe me tried them all.
I also restored the phone a few times to clean start (8.1.1),  and then also from my back up in itunes...
Nothing worked. !!  My 5s becomes warmer than my wife 5s and there is definitely something running in the background that depletes the battery much faster.
I went to check the battery with my mobile operator and they claimed there is no problem...but go tell the guy fixing screws on iphones that the web is full of reports on battery drain with 8.1.1 .
After much research and waste of time...i managed to find the IPSW for downgrading to "8.1"  I did succeed to downgrade and i will be testing in the next few days if all is ok.  I will report any results
I learned one lesson....don't trust the iOS  "upgrades" until a few weeks and month go by to check what effects they have on the phone !!   They sell you a phone for over 700-800 bucks and then you have to waste your time figuring out how to solve their software problems.Who is going to pay for my time?
With a market valuation of over $650 Billion and the stock price over $110,  you would expect them to check thoroughly before they release a version to fix one device and screw up the others.  I guess Apple & Samsung are almost running a duopoly on Smartphones.  Yes, there is competition (HTC, LG, Sony, Nokia..)  there but if you want the most advanced model,  you need to choose between 2 or 3 suppliers.  Once all your data is connected to one Operating System, the switching costs to another platform becomes expensive..cause you need to buy a new phone and a new tablet and move all your data, settings..etc
So for the time being i am stuck with iOS with an iPhone and iPad, and hopefully the downgrade will solve the Battery Drain of 8.1.1
So my recommendation if you have an iPhone 5s :  DO NOT UPGRADE TO 8.1.1

  • Over heating and battery drain on iPhone 4 after iOS 7.1 update

I am facing heavy battery drain and overheating after updating my iPhone 4 to IOS 7.1
The battery discharges @ 1% for every minute - when not in use / idle. The handset stays uncomfortably warm. The background app refresh, location services, screen brightness etc have been switched off/kept to the minimum. Though there is significant improvement in responsiveness. There were no battery/overheating  issues with iOS 7.0.6.
Have reset all settings, switched on/off, given a hard boot (power button + home button) but no use.
Suggestions to resolve this are welcome.

This is not a software issue!!!. Yes, it may cause by the software update.. I had the same issue with my Iphone5 after 7.1.. I went crazy .. seeing my battery draining 1% a minute without using it.. and it took more than 7 hours to charge completely. Worst my IPhone was out of warranty cant take it back to Apple to have it fixed.
    Things already did -
    I changed the battery
    Restored the phone
    Switched to setting basically nothing
Waited for 7.1.1 to come out and then update the phone
But none of these helped at all
So i rolled the last dice.. took my phone to a local technician (in Philippines). They said none of the above will resolve the issue.
What exactly went wrong was the - USB POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROLLER IC U2 was busted. Once this was replaced my phone worked just fine. in fact I was amazed with the results.
My phone charged 100% from 20% in less than 60 minutes.
Now my battery lasts for more than 15 hours ( i do not use mobile data only Wi-Fi)
So if your phone is out of warranty no harm in getting this part replaced. If within warranty you may get a replacement handset.
Now to what causes this as per the technician " Every update from apple tries to exclude accessories that are not certified, and you do get the pop up that this accessory may not be supported" continue to use the charger will fry the IC U2 .
    Hope this Helps goodluck

  • IOS 4.3.1 battery drain on iPhone

I have been wrestling with trying to find out what is causing my faster than normal battery drain issues since upgrading to 4.3.1 on iPhone. I thought I had it nailed when I discovered Skype was running in background. I have since deleted the Skype app but am still getting faster than normal battery drain. I then began to look at the internal processes running and am now wondering if any of those are the culprit.
How do you know what the process is used for and if it is needed? And then how to kill it?
Thanks and I look forward to your reply.

Well I'm still testing, but so far still looks crap to me.
It seems the opening animation is still horrible, but on most apps the second time you open an app (if it is already loaded) its smooth. This tells me when you first hit an app that it's loading is interfering with the animation. (never did this before 4.3)
The ipod app is still glitchy animation wise, and settings still has a second or so pause before appearing.
The camera app openeing speed seems to have improved a little though, but the double tap to reveal background tasks is totally inconsistant. (pause before doing anything, then glitchy crappy animation on screen move up).
Ultimately, I think that this is just a case of apple dumping the 3gs, and 'pushing' people to get a more powerful iphone (4 or even 5 later this year). The update doesn't even mention 3gs stability in the release notes, so Apple either basically have their head in the sand, or as I expect, just don't give a crap.
Will test some more, but this isn't looking good.

  • Quick Fix BATTERY DRAIN - (until the update of course)

I have recently been having problems with my battery on my iPhone 4S like everyone else has. So I decided that I would go to my local Apple store and see what was wrong. They had done a diagnostic test on it and said that my software was corrupted. They told me that to fix this problem I need to sync the iPhone to iTunes and restore and set up as a new iPhone. He emailed me this link showing me step by step on how to fix the problem with out losing anything on my phone. So I tried it out and IT'S FINALLY FIXED! My battery goes down at least one percent every 2/3 hours, giving me that 200 hour stand by time.
    INSTRUCTIONS:

One thing that drastically helped me was to shut down all the apps that you are not using.  When you press the 'Home" button and open up different apps, that previously run app does NOT automatically shut down.  It stays running in the background.  To see what apps you have running, simply 'double-tap' on your "Home" button and you will see a 'task manager bar' pop up.  You can scroll through it and even use it to bounce back into an already running app.  To shut down apps that you arent using, simply press and hold on any app that you see in the task manager pop-up (below all the other apps).  You will see 'minus' signs appear next to them.  Tapping this minus will not delete the app, but will just shut it down or quit the app.  It seems that the processor still dedicates power to every app open, even with the screen locked, so periodically just managing your apps and shutting down apps that are not being used will drastically increase battery life.  (You can also power off and power on as well...this will shut down everything too).    Think of it like your computer.....you have 10 programs running in the background and your bound to have performance issues.  I hope this helps....It deffinitely did for me.

  • I am literally watching my battery drain on iPhone 5

    WiFi - Off
    Location Services - Off
    Most Apps - Off
    Cell Phone Use - No
    Data Use - Minimal
I am litterally watching my battery drain on my iPhone 5 since 6.1 iOS upgrade.
I have had to charge twice today already and am down to 32% battery left.
I hope we get a fix soon.

A restore will install the most current version, 6.1 so unless you hack it, I don't think you'll be able to restore back to 6.02.    Good luck.

  • Possible solution to iOS 7.0.3 battery drain issue (iPhone 5).

Not a question as such, but for anyone who's having battery drain issues on iOS 7.0.3 and doesn't want to attempt upgrade to iOS 7.0.4 revision yet...
I was having some problems with battery drain with my iPhone 5 since updating to 7.0.3. The device is only about 5 weeks old so I was quite annoyed that I had issues with it.
This morning after a full charge I did a hard reset. Now the problem seems to have gone. I've had the phone on for several hours (about 4.5hrs) and it's only just dropped to 99% moments ago. This is a massive improvement (on even the battery life of the device when I got it, and it had 6.1.3 factory installed).
I hope that this helps anyone who doesn't want to risk 7.0.4 until it's had a chance to cool off and for people to identify/resolve any issues (as I am waiting too).

The update isn't the problem. It was a problem with your update process. millions of others have updated without any issue at all.
Also resetting has been discussed many times in the never ending battery draining threads.
