How to get files in jar

hi, i built a small application to learn,now i am trying to make it a jar file with NetBeans 5.0. but the jar file throws IO exceptions. it says it cannot find the file inside the application.
lets say, i am trying to read from "src/others/Default.properties", when i run with NetBeans,it find the file,but when i build the jar file and run it. it cannot find "src/others/Default.properties"
what am i supposed to do?

This is the solution(below) for my question. I think i couldnt ask it properly because some people give very strange answers.
I ll try to be more clear next time and thanks for all your responses.
URL url = this.getClass().getResource("/hello.jpg");
or you can get an InputStream to read it like this:
InputStream is = this.getClass().getResourceAsStream("/app.properties");

  • How to get file from server while click on link

    Hi,
    i created on link and i gave one server path to select file from server but while clickinng on link it no displaying any thing.
    following is the Destination url that i gave for the item.
    /u08/app/appvis/xxex/inst/xxex_apps/xxrbe/logs/appl/conc/log/
    please tell me how to get file from server while click on link.

    Ok I got your requirement now.
    If you are getting file names from view attribute then you should not be adding destination URI property for the link.
    Instead you can use OADataBoundValueViewObject API.
    Try below code in your controller processRequest method:
    I am assuming that you are using classic table.
    Also in below example it considers OAMessageStyleText and you can replace it with link item if you want.
    OATableBean tableBean =
    (OATableBean)webBean.findChildRecursive("<table item id>");
    OAMessageStyledTextBean m= (OAMessageStyledTextBean)tableBean.findChildRecursive("<message styled text in table item id>");
    OADataBoundValueViewObject tip1 = new OADataBoundValueViewObject(m, "/u08/app/appvis/xxex/inst/xxex_apps/xxrbe/logs/appl/conc/log/"+"<vo attr name which stores file name for each row>");
    m.setAttributeValue(oracle.cabo.ui.UIConstants.DESTINATION_ATTR, tip1);

  • How to get file count in variable?

    dear all,
    how to get file count in variable?
    regards
    Naseer

    Hi Nazeer ,
    It wont take much time .. so simple :- )
    Create one os comand step
    ( for unix) Use
    wc -l filename.txt > someoutputfile.txt
    Now the number of lines in your file will be there in the output file ( someoutputfile.txt )
    Step2 :-
    Now use Cezar's logic to fetch the variable value ( file count ) from the output file .. ( select value for a variable from a file )
    This will not take eeven a second to finish the job.

  • How to get file attribs - on any Mac

    ok so if the Mac in question has Developer / Tools - yeah the GetFileInfo binary will work to get the Type and Creator code and other info.... since most Macs dont have this bulky download... how to get file attribute information via Terminal ? How to change it ?

    Oddly enough I was just now playing around with a getinfo Applescript and studying the event log when I realized that it does return information about at least some of the attributes. I made the ones that it looks like you can get information about bold:
    A Alias file
    B Bundle
    C Custom icon
    D Desktop
    E Hidden extension
    I Inited
    M Shared (can run multiple times)
    N No INIT resources
    L Locked
    S System (name locked)
    T Stationary
    V Invisible
    Z Busy

    The SetFile function is actually available on any Mac that has a recent Tiger updater package installed. Thus I have copies in both the package updaters and the receipts for 10.4.7, .8, .9 and .10 in the /Library/Packages and /Library/Receipts folders. The SetFile command is in the Resources folder:
    "/Library/Packages/MacOSXUpd10.4.10PPC.pkg/Contents/Resources/SetFile"
    Control click on the .pkg file and select Show contents from the Contextual Menu to get there. Unfortunately I don't know of any way to use some other Terminal command to get information on all the attributes, except the GetFileInfo and using the Applescipt get info function.

  • How to get file line count.

    Hey guys,
    How to get file line count very fast? I am using BufferedReader to readLine() and count. But when dealing with big file, say several GB size, this process will be very time consuming.
    Is there any other methods?
    Thanks in advace!

    What I'd do is you create an infofetcher, register a listener, implement gotMore() and have that scan for '\n'
    Some might suggest getting rid of the listener/sender pattern or use multiple threads to make ii faster. This might help a little, but only if your I/O is super-duper speedy.
    you are welcome to use and modify this code, but please don't change the package or take credit for it as your own work.

  • How to get File Reference of a properties file from EJB

    Hi,
    I am using Sun App server 7 with Oracle 9i. I am keeping all my SQL statements in a properties file from which I am loading it while making a database operation from Stateless beans. My problem is I am not able to get the reference of the properties file. Here is the code through which I am getting the SQL statements loaded to a cache.
    String sqlFileName = "SQL.properties";
    sqlCache.load(new FileInputStream(sqlFileName));
    From the cache I am sending the SQL statement depending on the key value. But the problem is I have to keep the SQL.properties file on the App Server config directory of the instance where the server.xml file resides. Otherwise it is not able to find the properties file. But I don't want to put the properties file on the config directory of the server instance. Please help how to get the properties file from the packakge. My file is residing inside a package com.company.sql . Botht the properties file and the class accessing the file are residing in the same package. Please help how to get the reference of the file with out putting the file in the config directory.
    Thanks

    Just wanted to warn you of the hazards if you read a file from EJB
    So please make sure that these hazards will not affect your application. However the solution suggested to use getResourceStream() concurs with ejbSpec
    This snippet is from suns blueprint on ejb
    Why can't EJBs read and write files and directories in the filesystem? And why can't they access file descriptors?
    Enterprise beans aren't allowed to access files primarily because files are not transactional resources. Allowing EJBs to access files or directories in the filesystem, or to use file descriptors, would compromise component distributability, and would be a security hazard.
    Another reason is deployability. The EJB container can choose to place an enterprise bean in any JVM, on any machine in a cluster. Yet the contents of a filesystem are not part of a deployment, and are therefore outside of the EJB container's control. File systems, directories, files, and especially file descriptors tend to be machine-local resources. If an enterprise bean running in a JVM on a particular machine is using or holding an open file descriptor to a file in the filesystem, that enterprise bean cannot easily be moved from one JVM or machine to another, without losing its reference to the file.
    Furthermore, giving EJBs access to the filesystem is a security hazard, since the enterprise bean could potentially read and broadcast the contents of sensitive files, or even upload and overwrite the JVM runtime binary for malicious purposes.
    Files are not an appropriate mechanism for storing business data for use by components, because they tend to be unstructured, are not under the control of the server environment, and typically don't provide distributed transactional access or fine-grained locking. Business data is better managed using a persistence interface such as JDBC, whose implementations usually provide these benefits. Read-only data can, however, be stored in files in a deployment JAR, and accessed with the getResource() or getResourceAsStream() methods of java.lang.Class.
    Hope this info helps!

  • How to get File name in Proxy program

    Hi,
    According to my business scenario, one XML file name comes from Legacy system and stores in a predefined directory. Now XI has to pick up that XML file and needs to call BAPI's which in turn updates the Target system ( SAP Tables).
    Now my problem is , XML File name is a combination of three fileds those are DATE , OBJECTKEY AND WORKFLOWNAME.
    Ex : YYYYMMDD_1234565789_WORKFLOWNAME.XML
         DATE_OBJECTKEY_WORKFLOWNAME.XML
    In proxy i need to get the file name and split into three fields ( those are DATE , OBJECTKEY AND WORKFLOWNAME ) which needs to send as import parameters in BAPI's.
    So please let me know from anyone in this group how to get the file name in the proxy program.

    Method init() is irelevant, it just adds JTextPane in applet.
    Method start() is relevant, it runs normaly when started from Eclipse but from browser it sends exception AccessDenied.

  • How to get file input stream from the client machine by JSF Fileupload API?

    Dear Friends,
    How to get the file input stream from the client machine by JSF HtmlFileupload or fileupload API. At present, if i execute the file upload code in the client machine, it is able to get the local path of the file and looking for the file in server machine. So i am getting FileNotFoundException.
    E.g., If a file is located at client machine at following location means "C:\Test\Test.txt",
    uploadClass.getFileuploadComponent().getFilename().toString() returns "C:\Test\Test.txt". But it is looking for that file in server and throwing FileNotFoundException.
    Please post your replies soon.
    Thanks,
    JP

    Depends on which version of JSF you're using. If JSF 1.2, I wouldn't even bother trying to hack this into JSF itself unless you can use something like Seam 2 or richfaces.
    http://docs.jboss.org/richfaces/latest_3_3_X/en/devguide/html/rich_fileUpload.html
    http://docs.jboss.org/seam/2.2.1.CR3/reference/en-US/html/controls.html#d0e29259 (look for s:fileUpload)
    But if I were you, a simple non-jsf form with a servlet works best for taking file uploads.
    As for JSF 2.0, there are other ways of getting it done.

  • How to get file names of processes

    i am writing an application engine for monitoring ps jobs and processes i want to send an email to support group with log file if any process runs to error. Can anybody tell me how to get the log/trace files generated for each process. i tried many ways but did not get any clue would greatly appreciate for giving me information.
    thanks
    shiv

    Yes man it is possible, follow these steps if you want to automate process monitoring:
    1. Create a view for retrieving all the processes which are errored in a specific time for example 180 minutes. You can use all the following record for various information about a process or job
    PSPRCSRQST,PSOPRDEFN, PS_PRCSDEFN, PSPRCSPRFL, XLATTABLE_VW
    2. Create a table to store the process instance which was last monitored
    3. In application engine access the view which you have created in step 1, this view will give you all the processes which got errored out.
    4. In application engine use SendMail function to send an email with the process instance details which are errored out.
    5. After reading last row from the view update the table which you created in step 2 with the process instance you have read in last.
    This design should be able to send an email to support group if the process is errored out.

  • How to get file name on the base of extension

    hi
    reply me
    how to get the filename on the base of extension from the
    current directory......
    for example
    i create file with the "igg" extension and save in the folder
    where the exe file of director save....
    i want when exe run then exe file read filename of the
    define( "igg" ) extension with out path just name of the file with
    igg extension
    tel me how
    regards
    farhana khan

    Here's a solution that requires no xtras:
    on GetFilesWithExtension(aFolderPath, aExtension)
    -- INPUT: <aFolderPath> should be a valid string
    folder path
    -- <aExtension> may be a string file extension,
    without the
    -- dot. For example: "txt" or "igg"
    -- OUTPUT: Returns an error symbol or a linear list of file
    names
    -- in the given folder. If an extension is given, only
    -- files with the given extension will be listed. If not,
    -- all files and folders will be listed.
    vFileList = []
    if not stringP(aFolderPath) then
    return #stringPathExpected
    end if
    vIgnoreExtension = not stringP(aExtension)
    vDelimiter = the itemDelimiter
    the itemDelimiter = "."
    n = 0
    repeat while TRUE
    n = n + 1
    vFileName = getNthFileNameInFolder(aFolderPath, n)
    if vFileName = "" then
    exit repeat
    end if
    if vIgnoreExtension then
    vFileList.append(vFileName)
    else if the last item of vFileName = aExtension then
    vFileList.append(vFileName)
    end if
    end repeat
    the itemDelimiter = vDelimiter
    return vFileList
    end GetFilesWithExtension
    You can also use
    Buddy API's baFileList,
    which allows you to do wildcard searching.
