How to get log information from database server?

Oracle 9.2 in Unix
we got blocking error in the production database last midnight for 40 min and nothing was being processed during that time which delayed our production night batch process. Then it was gone after 40min. I like to know what was happening during that time in the database. My question is where I can find error in the database server? In bdump? Appreciate any ideas.
Thanks
S.

If you have jobs regularly collect statspack report, then it will be easier to troubleshoot. You can just pull the report from the time period.
A couple of things you can check if there's any storage issue during the time, like some backup or other jobs running taken all OS storage, so Oracle hung because no space to archive logs. Usually this will log errors in alert.log but if bdump destination also full, the error will not be logged.
Check OS activity during the time frame, what's CPU and IO activity. See if you have sar installed and configured
check OS message file.

    You might profit from a visit to a Minneapolis Apple store. With a brand new Mac, I think they will be most helpful - not just with transferring files, but with other advice as well. And I strongly recommend you invest in a back up drive. The Apple folk can help with that as well.

  • How to get log information about any interface...scenario etc

    I have created an package which loads file in a perticular folder dynamically.
    here after loading each file i want to maintain the log i.e number of records inserted,updated,deleted,error etc,i came to know that in work repository snp_session,snp_sess_task_log, will have the statistics.but in these table records loaded available in the insert step.how do i query these tables properly,how do i get session no other information from odi.
    plz help me.
    Jai

    Thank u.
    I got one more way to solve this.
    SELECT <%=odiRef. getPrevStepLog("sess_no")%> FROM DUAL
    we can use this statement in a variable.
    After execution of the interface we can use this variable which lets us to know session_no of previous interface then we can use this session_no to get the log by quering tables in work_rep.

    Hi,
    I am using WLS default authentication to protect my JSP pages. Can someone tell
    me if it is possible to add more fields to the default login box (in addition
    to login and password boxes, I want to ask user the department name). In additional,
    can WLS propogate this information (department name) along with other security
    credentails to other J2EE components such as EJBs? In my EJBs I want to be able
    to get the department name that user provided during login and then use that for
    conditional business logic.
    Any insights on this subject will be greatly appreciated.
    TIA,
    -NealYou can't do this with the default simple authentication. That can only handle a
    username / password combination.
    You should be able to do this with JAAS. You could write a LoginModule that
    populates the department as a Principal or public Credential on the Subject in
    addition to the normal authentication. You would have to do a callback handler
    that passed through the department info to it.
    This link has more on WLS's stab at JAAS:
    http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs61/security/prog.html#1039659
    Once you have associated the Subject with the access control context by invoking
    a doAs() you should be able to get it back at any point with
    Subject.getSubject(AccessController.getContext()) to get access to the
    department info.
    It will all be a bit of a chore, mind.

  • How to get multiple rows from database table?

    hello !
    I need to get multiple rows from a OLEDB database table and display them on a table object.
    I did "Wrap in subfrom" on the table,  set  subform of the table to "flowed", and checked "Repeat row for each data item" of Row1 of the table.
    But I can get only one row on the table object.
    I need your help.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    best practices when deleting multiple rows is to do this on the business service, not the view layer for performance reasons. When you selected the rows to delete and press submit, then in a managed bean you access thetable instance (put a reference to a managed bean from the table "binding" property") and call getSeletedRowKeys. In JDeveloper 11g, ADF Faces returns the RowKeySet as a Set of List, where each list conatins the server side row key (e.g. oracle.jbo.Key) if you use ADF BC. Then you create a List (ArrayList) with this keys in it and call a method exposed on the business service (through a method activity in ADF) and pass the list as an argument. On the server side you then access the View Object that holds the data and find the row to delte by the keys in the list
    Example 134 here: http://blogs.oracle.com/smuenchadf/examples/#134 provides you with the code

  • Is there a link that demonstrates how to get the information from the forms into a database?

    I have set up a form for a client's web site and I don't want the client to have to deal with a vast quantity of emails each with the form entries. I want the information to go directly into my client's database and I didn't want to use Business Catalyst. Let me know which database program would be the best for them to use. Preferably Mac.

    Hi David,
    There is a similar thread live with us , you can follow the Database of Form Entries

  • How to get Date value from database and display them in a drop down list?

    Hello.
    In my Customers table, I have a column with Date data type. I want to create a form in JSP, where visitors can filter Customers list by year and month.

    Hi
    What part is your biggest problem?? I am not experienced in getting data out of a database, but the way to get a variable amount of data to show in a drop down menu, i have just messed around with for some time and heres how i solved it... In my app, what i needed was, a initial empty drop down list, and then using input from a text-field, users could add elements to a Vector that was passed to a JComboBox. Heres how.
    package jcombobox;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import java.util.Vector;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class Main extends JApplet implements ActionListener {
        private Vector<SomeClass> list = new Vector<SomeClass>();
        private JComboBox dropDownList = new JComboBox(list);
        private JButton addButton = new JButton("add");
        private JButton remove = new JButton("remove");
        private JTextField input = new JTextField(10);
        private JPanel buttons = new JPanel();
        public Main() {
            addButton.addActionListener(this);
            remove.addActionListener(this);
            input.addActionListener(this);
            buttons.setLayout(new FlowLayout());
            buttons.add(addButton);
            buttons.add(remove);
            add(dropDownList, "North");
            add(input, "Center");
            add(buttons, "South");
        public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
            if (e.getSource() == addButton) {
                list.addElement(new SomeClass(input.getText()));
                input.setText("");
            } else if (e.getSource() == remove) {
                int selected = dropDownList.getSelectedIndex();
                dropDownList.removeItemAt(selected);
        public void init(String[] args) {
            setSize(400,300);
            getContentPane().setLayout(new BorderLayout());
            getContentPane().add(new Main());
    }And that "SomeClass" is show here
    package jcombobox;
    public class SomeClass {
        private String text;
        public SomeClass(String input) {
            text = input;
        public String toString() {
            return text;
    }One of the things i struggled a lot with was to get the dropdown menu to show some usefull result. If the list just contains class references it will show the memory code that points to that class. Thats where the toString cones in handy. But it took me some time to figure that one out, a laugh here is welcome as it should have been obvious :-)
    When the app is as simple as this one, using a <String> vector would have been easier, but this is just to demonstrate how to place classes in a vector and get some usefull info out of it, hope this answered some of your question :-)
    The layout might have been easier to write, than using the toppanel created by the JApplet and then the two additional JPanels, but it was just a small app brewed together in 15 minutes. Please comments on my faults, so that i can learn of it.
    If you need any of the code specified more, please let me know. Ill be glad to,

  • Which is more efficient way to get result set from database server

    Hi,
    I am working on a project where I require to query database to fetch result set and then iterate through the resultset. Now, What I want is that I want to create one single java code that would call many different SQLs and create a list out of resultset. There are two approaches for me.
    1.) To create a txt file where I can store my queries. My java program can read this file and get the appropriate query to be used.
    2.) To create a stored procedure containing the queries and call the stored procedure from my java program. Also, not that some of the queries needs to be created dynamically depending upon the parameteters supplied.
    Out of these two approches which is optimum and why?
    Also, following things to be noted.
    1. At times I want to create where clause of the query dynamically depenending upon the parameters passed.
    2. I want one single java file that will handle all database calls.
    3. Paramters to the stored procedure can be passed using array descriptor.
    4. Conneciton I am making using JNDI.
    Please do provide me optimum way of out these two. You may also suggest some other approaches, if any.
    Thanks,
    Rajan

    In case of queries stored in text files. I will require to replace some pre defined placeholder with actual parameters and then pass that modified query to db engine. Even I liked the second approach as it is more easily maintainable. There are a couple of issues. Shared SQL is one. Irrespective of the method used, the SQL cursor that is created needs to have bind variables. This ensures re-usability of the cursor. This reduces the risk of Shared Pool fragmentation. This lowers hard parsing and reduces CPU utilisation.
    Another issue is flexibility. If the SQL cursors are created by stored procedures, this code resides on the server and abstracts the Java client from the complexities of SQL and SQL performance. The code can easily be updated and fine tuned to deliver faster/better SQL cursors, or modified to take new Oracle features, changes in data model, and so on, into consideration. This stored proc can be updated without having to touch or recompile a single byte of Java client code.
    There's also the security issue. What is more secure? SQL encapsulated in stored procs in a secure database and server environment? Or SQL "encapsulated" in text files on the client?
    The less code you have running on the client, the less code you have running in the wild that can be compromised without having to first compromise the server.
    Only I was worried about any performace issue might happen using this approach. Performance is not a factor of who creates the SQL cursor.
    Whether Java client creates a SQL cursor, or a PL/SQL stored proc creates a SQL cursor, or a .Net client creates a SQL cursor - that SQL cursor does not know what the client is. It does not care what the client is. The SQL cursor performs as well as it is capable of.. given the execution plan, data volumes, server resources and speed/performance of the server.
    The client language and SQL cursor interface used by the client (there are several in PL/SQL), determines the performance of the client's interaction with the cursor (e.g. round trips to the database when interfacing with the cursor). The client language (and its client interface to the cursor) does not dictate the actual performance of that SQL cursor on the database (does not make joins faster, or I/O faster)
    One more question, Will my java program close the cursor that I opened in Procedure?That you need to ask your Java code. Java code leaking ref cursors are unfortunately all too common. You need to make sure that your Java client interface to SQL cursors, closes the cursor handle when done.

    I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard. When configuring Mail I used POP ( I prefer it) with my Gmail account and it tediously uploaded all my received mail from the Gmail server to my mac mail program. How do I get the sent mails on the Gmail server onto my computer?

    Not sure if this will work as I use IMAP. Go to Mail>Preferences>Accounts> click on mailbox behaviour, uncheck 'store sent messages on server' if it is checked. Then try a fetch mail and see if it works.
