How to get the InDesign fonts?

Hi All,
I can get the system fonts using app.fonts();, but I want the fonts loaded only in InDesign i.e., fonts copied in the installation folder like D:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS5\Required\fonts or suggest any other method also to get only these fonts.
Thanks,
Praveen

You can use location property of the font to find out fonts located in a certain folder.

  • How to get the actual font name from a font file?

    Hi
I have only the font Path I have to get the font name from that path. Any idea how to get the actual font name?
    Thanks,

I would ask you these questions:
Why do you need to do this?  What are you ultimately trying to accomplish?
Are you really asking about the InDesign SDK?
Do you really need to get the "name" of a font from an arbitrary file?  Or do you want information about a font installed on the system?  If so, what OS?
Do you need to be able to handle any font format?
Which font "name" do you mean?
What language do you want the name in?
    (1) It's not clear what you're trying to accomplish.  A bit more information about your ultimate goal would be helpful.
    (2) This question is not at all specific to the InDesign SDK.  Are you really trying to do something in the context of an InDesign plug-in?  If so, you probably want to look at IID_IFONTFAMILY and the IFontFamily::GetFamilyName function.
    (3) If you are asking more generally, Windows and Mac both have system API calls to get this information, although those tend to deal with installed system fonts, not with arbitrary font files per se.
Also, you can parse the name table from a True Type or Open Type font without using any system APIs; as True Type and Open Type are well-documented standards.  I would start by reading these:
    The Naming Table
    Font Names Table
    (4) Although there are other standards, such as Type 1 (PostScript) fonts, and True Type Collection files and other formats, especially on Mac.
    (5) Also, when you start down this road, you will quickly realize that your seemingly simple question is actually ambiguous, and that the answer is kind of complicated, because a font can have many names (a family name, a full font name, a style name, a PostScript name, etc.).
    (6) And not only does a font have multiple names, it can have each of those names in multiple languages and encodings.
Any clarification would make this a better question.

  • Unable to get the same font in swf file

    Hi,
I've created some swf files in which text was written using one particular font. When I run these swf files in other computers which don't have this font, The text gets displayed in different font.
How to get the same font in other computers also without installing the font.
I tried embedding font in fla file. But I commit mistake at somewhere. Could anyone help me to figure it out ?
    Thanks !

    Hi,
    Thanks for your assistance.
I apologize for not explaining it properly. As you had suggested I just created one new file in which I kept only one text field. No actionscript or anything. The text will be displayed on the stage for 2 secs.
As it is static I don't need to embed the text. So I didn't. Checked the swf file in different computers but no desired display. I then embedded the font. No desired display again in different computers. I then changed it from static to dynamic text, It is not necessary though. Still no desired display. I then tried with different font. But same thing happens.
How did I embed the font ?
Text --> Font Embedding --> Choosing correct font family and style --> Choosing character ranges as uppercase, lowercase, numbers, punctuation. Then clicked on + sign available at right top corner of the left area in which all embedded fonts are displayed. Click OK. Checked in Library and those fonts are available.
I even didn't do anything with actionscript tab as I don't have any actionscript at all for this file.
    2 fonts I used:
    Font Family: Cooper Std
    Style: Black
    Font Family: DigifaceWide
    Style: Regular
I don't really know Where I commit mistake. Please advice me.
    Awaiting your precious reply.
    Thanks.

PSE uses the fonts on your computer, so if you install Rockwell there, PSE should pick it up.

  • Getting the default font - possible? (default fonts problem in InDesign Server CS5)

Is there a way to decide whether a font is used as "default font" for a document?
Or a simple way to see whether a font is used at all?
The actual problem is that InDesign server (CS5 ver. 7.0.3.533) returns the "default font" along with all other used fonts, when looping through the document.fonts collection. This becomes a problem when the default font is never used in the document, and is also not present. Then the (name of) the default font may also become meddled by a style that does not even exist for that very font.
This is indicated as a problem in our application... as a missing font, just as the call to InDesign server reports back. But the font (with that style) doesn't even exist.
Running the same script on an desktop InDesign CS5 (ver 7.0.4) the unused default font of the same document is not returned at all.
    Thanks,
    Andreas

To get the default font, just check:
    app.activeDocument.textDefaults.appliedFont
Obviously this didn't solve the problem, since InDesign server has made up a font name that is reported as missing... and it's not equal to the default font. So there is some lack of logic in my previous description.

  • How to get the skeletons of fonts?

Eh..So now I'd like to re-stroke a character.I don't know how to name this operation.Just as following my manual work.
Step 1.Draw the skeletons of each character. That's not quite difficult with simple characters. But how can that be done effiently and accurately when it comes to complex ones? I type a Chinese character and turn it into outline. However I've no idea how to get the skeletons (as showing in the part 2)with some commands or tools.So..I did it with pen tool manually.oh...Quite poor working!
Step 2.Well,this is not a barrier.Just select new strokes and apply them to the skeletons.
What I wanna ask for your kind help is how to get the character's skeletons with some proffesional operations, but not just munual draw.

    WhiteBrown,
Once again, at least for some typefaces you may get at least some of the way by using one step Blend magic, setting the Object>Blend>Blend Options to 1 step and Align to Path:
    0) Type>Create Outlines, Object>Ungroup, Object>Compound Path>Release, and switch from Fill to Stroke in the Toolbox,
    Then select each lettershape and:
    1) If needed cut it with the Scissors Tool at suitable Anchor Points (or elsewhere) to get the most obvious pairs of opposite strokes,
For each pair of opposite strokes:
    2) Add new Anchor Points with the Add Anchor Point Tool if/where needed so the two opposite strokes have matching pairs of Anchor Points (same number, each pair placed opposite toeach other),
    3) Select both paths and Object>Blend>Make,
If nothing happens, or if it looks wrong (or not quite right) after 3),
    4) Select one of the paths and reverse it,
    5) Select both paths and Object>Blend>Make,
If your version does not include reversal of paths, you may use the  free Reverse script which may be downloaded here (some other nice  scripts, too):
    http://park12.wakwak.com/~shp/lc/et/en_aics_script.html
    After that,
    6) Object>Blend>Expand, Object>Ungroup, and hide the opposite strokes is desired.
After that you may adjust, add parts, and join parts as needed, if needed.
Lastly, you may delete unwanted parts (keep them for reference until you are sure.
You will discover further details and ways when working with it.
A very simple case is a D in Helvetica (or similar sans serif) where you only need 0) and 3).
A rather simple case is an I in Helvetica (or similar sans serif) where you need 0), 1) (cutting at the corners), 4), and 5).
A somewhat funny case is a D in New Baskerville (or similar serif) just using 0) and 3).

There is a similar post just a few away from yours. I will suggest what I would try. Open your job settings file (press or print preferred to get all fonts) and then select the properties and the font tab. At your font to the always embed list and you will likely need to uncheck the subset box. Then save your job settings (give it a name that is meaningful to you, you can not use the settings file you started with as they are read only and I do not recommend changing that). Maybe that will do the job. Of course that is for the creation of the PDF, I forgot you were talking about a form. You might check the form field properties, but I suspect you have already tried that. Guess I don't play with forms enough. Others may be by to answer.

Or better yet... try a search, I'm certain you'll find a solution to whatever issue you're experiencing.

  • Anyone know how to change the default font for the new pages? Apparently it does not even come up when I search the 'Help' section of Pages. The level of incompetence in this new version seems breathtaking

I cannot find how to change the default font in the new Pages. It does not appear in the Help area when I search for it. I am never sing Helvetica for my standard documents and cannot seem to change it. What am I missing? And why does Pages help not have an easy answer?
    dan

You open a blank template and change the font to you liking. Remember to also get all the styles changed with new font. Then Save As Template. Now you have a template with the font you like.

in iphoto how to get the gold you delete a photo warning message when you check the box not ask

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7 or later: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • In Mac how to get the Full name of a file Programmatically?

    Hi Friends,
I am doing one Mac application for displaying the contents of a file. I can able to get some information about the file by using this code below...
      NSDictionary *dict=[fileManager attributesOfItemAtPath:myPath error:nil];
Now I want to get the some other informations also like Full Name, copyRight, version... So Please suggest me how to get the full name of a file Programmaticallly?

    Your question doesn't make sense.
First off, if you are going to get the attributes of a file, you need its full name before you can do anything. So that's part one taken care of.
This function returns a dictionary full of typical file information (type, size, mod dates, etc.) as well as some HFS data (creator code, type code) which, I strongly suspect, are not "pulled out of the file" but rather generated on the spot. (See NSFileManager for the full list of attribute keys.)
The other items you hoped of retrieving are not part of the regular file system. Sure, a Truetype font has a copyright string and a version, but what about an HTML file? A PNG? A text file you just created?
There simply are no standard functions to retrieve copyright and version.
