How to handle a repeating table in FrameMaker 8 with varying columns

Hello,
I have a unstructred FrameMaker 8 table question that I hope someone can answer for me.
I have a RTF document that I have brought into FrameMaker 8.
The table came into FrameMaker without any major problems.
From FrameMaker 8, I now have to apply a special template to generate the special "Table Title" field, that allows the table to break across several pages; using the "Table Continuation Variable".
Also, I must use select the "Add Rows or Columns" option and choose "Add 1 Row to Heading", so that my "Table/Column/Head" row repeats on every table page.
With that said, here is where it gets interesting!
ISSUE #1
Usually, my next step is to add 20-30 rows to the last row on the first table page and then paste in the table data from the second (original) table into these new table cells. The end result is that the table will bump from page 1 to page 2 and "Table Title (Continued)" will automatically appear on the second table page - and so forth...
It is not the fastest way to handle RTF tables, but this is the only approach I know off-hand.
Does anyone know if there is a way to simply merge the legacy breaking tables together and then apply the "Table Continuation" variable and repeating Table Column Header row?
ISSUE #2
As mentioned above in Issue #1, I must manually add extra rows to the bottom of the first table page and then paste in the table data that flows over the next few pages.
But, my multi-page table is based on procedural steps and therefore some table pages have 4 columns, while others have 5 columns.
So, using the process stated above, I simply can't copy and paste.
I must now manually add another column to the affected table page. But when I do this, FrameMaker 8 naturally adds an additional column to the first table page. When that happens, I must then go back to the first table page and straddle the new column into the original column.
Does anyone know if there is a better way to handle these legacy (RTF) tables?
Overall, I am hoping that there is an easier way of handling a legacy (RTF) table that breaks over several pages and has different columns, based on the section in the table.
Thanks in advance for any solutions offered.
Regards,
Jim

  • Need to know schema name and table name associated with a column-URGENT

    Hi folks,
    I need to know the schema name and the table name associated with a column. Though jdbc has the api to getTableName and getSchemaName, some database vendor like oracle does return empty upon call of mentioned methods. I found that oracle driver does not support that ……
    Can any one give me the solution? It is urgent. Or do you suggest any third pary jdbc driver which can provide those?
    Thanks
    Angelina

    Angelina,
    Your question has been discussed several times previously in this forum. Search this forum's archives for "getTableName". Oracle JDBC driver does not implement this (because "it is not feasible" -- according to Oracle).
    First of all, I would suggest that you could probably change your application's logic so that you would not need this functionality (but I guess that is not feasible either, right :-)
    Alternatively, you could try querying the Oracle database data dictionary.
    Good Luck,

  • How to keep the repeating table and all of its contents on the same page

    Hi All,
    I use 5.6 build version of xml publisher. My problem is about, repeating table in rtf is divided, so i want to keep the object and its contents on the same logical page.
    How it can be done?
    Thanks.

    I'm glad to hear someone who doesn't have this problem. I tried that to make a connection between my phone and PC, but then I am unable to accomplish that: it says (on my phone) how I'm not playing something... :@ I mean "WTF, it is a bluetooth...".
    I did disable the software from starting, but I is not all of the software - it is all around me: in main many, in control panel... And I can smell some other processes running!
    Also, the computer continues to restart it self for no reason, and it has to do something with installation of Toshiba BT...
    I will remove this thing from my PC even if that meant reinstalling operating system!
    No, I don't have Toshiba notebook... Maybe I had, if that was one part of the uninstalled components.
    I don't get it, it looks like Toshibas developers wanted to scr*w with us - why did they make it so hard to remove all of those components. The internet is full of peoples post who had the same problem as I do!

    It should work in IP 2013 as well. Also make sure that you are designing client form because it does not works in browser based form.

  • Who know how to handle pl/sql table return from stored procedure calling from jsp

    I have some stored procedure which return pl/sql table (index by table), It is look like an array. how jdbc handle this?
    CallableStatement cs = con.prepareCall("EXECUTE bill.getcountry(?,?)");
    cs.setInt(1, cid);
    cs.registerOutParameter(2, java.sql.Types.VARCHAR);// ARRAY?
    ResultSet rs = cs.executeQuery();
    Array array = (Array) rs.getObject (1);
    ResultSet array_rset = array.getResultSet ();

    Not that familiar with the OCI (Oracle Call Interface), but I think this call will be problematic - the OCI deals with SQL data types and not with PL/SQL structures.
    The OCI has since Oracle 8i sported an object call interface (see OCI Runtime Environment for Objects for details).
    This allows you to use the CREATE TYPE command to create advance user data types - and these are supported by the SQL engine, PL/SQL engine and external languages via the OCI.
    So you need to have a look at the Perl-DBI documentation to see how it supports Oracle object types and consider using these. As for internal PL/SQL data structures. These are not supported by the SQL engine and I would expect limited or no support in the OCI for these. Anyway, using SQL data types makes a lot more sense ito flexibility and transparency across languages and environments.

  • How to handle  a large table using a JTable

    I want to create a lookup for the customer master file. And there is over 5000 records. so, what is the way to handle this case?
    ( if adding the all elements to vector or array, i think it is very time consuming and request many memory)
    thank you.

    Hi, I had similar problem - I had a table with about 100000 records - I was receiving java heap error when I was trying to load it. I have solved the task by loading data by portions - only when they are needed. Make a buffer (eg 200 records) of loaded data. Initially load first 200 records to it. Implements TableModel.getValueAt(row, col) in the way that if the row index is in currently loaded records range, return existing value. If it is out of range, replace data in buffer with data range containing requested value. For example, if row=50, take 50th row from loaded buffer; if row=450, first load records from 400th to 600th to your buffer, than take 50th value from it. Works perferct (table is scrlled with no problems) for 100000 records, mo memory overloading.
    The real problem appeared, when I had to sort this table - takes really long time.
    p.s. 5000 records is not too much - you can load all of them in one array and have no problems.

  • How do I create a table of contents with a nested style paragraph?

    I'm having difficulty figuring out how to generate my Table of Contents with a nested style. In this screen shot, "SPECIAL EVENTS" is considered level one and the pink circled "Fittest Firm Challenge" is level 2. Because it is a nested style, it is picking up the entire paragraph. I don't want to put in a paragraph break because that would add too much space in the magazine since there are a lot of other listings like this. I've tried reading through other people's discussions but I'm totally lost with the explanations. Is there a simple workaround or solution to this?

    You're asking InDesign to do something it's not designed to do, namely, to treat a nested-style section of a paragraph as an independent paragraph. That's called a "run-in paragraph" in Adobe FrameMaker, and it's been a beloved feature there since FrameMaker was introduced in '89, about ten years before InDesign.
    You can make a formal feature enhancement request here: Wishform Many InDesign features have come into being from user requests, so lend your voice, and be patient. Explain why you think a run-in paragraph feature would be useful.
    Others have asked about this, and there are a number of workarounds that may or may not be suitable for you. Let's hope that some of the more-intense forum folks can help you with a useful search term for this forum, so that you can review what's been suggested and tried in the past, and what results you can expect.
    In the meantime, you might consider inserting the second-level heading in an inline anchored text frame in the paragraph. It will be an independent paragraph but you can adjust appear on the same line as following paragraph. Then you can extract it for the TOC.

  • How to dynamically create a table to join with

    I have a table of users and when they should submit time sheets: start date and end date.
    I have a table of timesheets with user ID and week-ending date.
    I need to construct a report of which timesheets are missing this year.
    I effectively need a table of week-ending dates for the year to join with the user and table and filter on start/end dates - and derive a list of week-ending dates for which I expect to see timesheets.
    But I donu2019t have write-access to the database: Can I effectively create a local table with the week-ending dates for the year?
    We currently solve it by using a local Excel file. Is that the most efficient way? It is also a nuisance as we have to edit the report and copy the excel file when we move directories.
    2nd question on the forum
    Mike

    Mikecro,
    Trying to actually write a SQL script of any complexity in the Command window itself is a horrible experience. I'd recommend writing your SQL in SSMS and testing it there. Once you have the script written in SSMS and it producing the desired result set you can then copy and paste it into the CR Command. (Just use hard coded dummy parameters in SSMS and replace them once they're pasted into the command.)
    If you are building "canned" reports that will ship with a software package, I'd recommend building it out as a stored procedure (and the same with any other reports). This will also make future support much easier by allowing you to make any modifications to the data set directly on the SQL Server without having to touch CR or CRS.
    If you're acting as a 3rd party consultant and you don't have the access or authority to add SP objects to the SQL Server then sticking with the Command is going to be your best bet. This is still better than using linked tables IMO.
    #1) CR simply lacks the ability to write SQL with any real level of complexity. It can't even create a simple sub-query.
    #2) It looks more professional. From an end users pov a report that uses a sql command, as opposed to linked table, demonstrates that the report developer is of a more advance skill level.
    #3) Most of your clients won't know how to write SQL themselves so they will need to re-engage your services to take care of any existing reports and to build new ones. It's easier to get repeat business than it is to get new business.
    As you've already seen, getting everything into a single, well written, SQL command can make a dramatic improvement in report performance. If you get in the habit of building all of your reports using SPs, Views or Commands, you'll quickly come to appreciate added flexibility it affords you. Once to modify your report building workflows to accommodate the change, you won't even think about going back.

  • How to handle the records that contain different number of columns

    hi all,
    I have a file (as source data)includes order information like:
    H,P001,Smith,Sunnyvale
    D,P001,PR97623,150,10.99,Ice cream
    D,P001,PR33267,45,32.66,Popcorn

    H,P003,Williams,San Jose
    X,P003,PR23563,19,25.54,Peanuts
    T,P003
    I want to transfer the file record to three target tables,
    the record marked "H" to "Summary" table and sum money of the detail
    the record marked "D" to "Detail" table
    the record marked "X" to "Error" table
    the expect result as below:
    Summary table
    Order_No Customer Address Total_Money
    P001 Smith Sunnyvale 3118.2
    (※3118.2=150*10.99+45*32.66)
    Detail table
    Order_No Prodcut_Id Prodcut_Name Quantity Price
    P001 PR97623 Ice cream 150 10.99
    P001 PR33267 Popcorn 45 32.66
    Error table
    Head Order_No Record_No
    X P003 6
    (※6 is the line no in the file)
    How can I do this in ODI , could anyone give some hints?

    Hi AGUI,
    You can do this by the following way,
    1) create the File datastore for the file with 6 columns
    while creation select the following option file format as Delimited
    record seperator as MS-DOS and field sep as other specify "," in the text box.
    -- check the file datastore maps correctly by view the data.
    2) create the interface int1 for transfer the data from this file to temp table( the temp table should have one more column for getting the line number( it should be the sequence number).
    3) create the another interface int2, in this interafce you need to transfer the data from the[b] temp table to Detail table (use filter for gatting D record.
    4) create the interace int3 transfer the data from the temp table to Summary table. please keep the total_money field as null for this interace
    and use Odi procedure for updating this field with reference of details table.
    5) create interface int4 for transfer the error date by transferinf from temp table to error table.
    Thanks,

  • Tables with varying columns imported from XML

    Hi,
    I have an XML file for a product catalog. Each product has Name, SKU, Image, Description and a Table with some data in it. Each table is different is size, varying number of columns and rows.
    I have anchored objects for some of the elements like Image or SKU in my template.
    When I load the XML I check 'Clone repeating elements' upon import so I can maintain the various anchored frames for my elements. However it breaks the tables. It appears that each new table is trying to copy the previous table's exact number of rows and columns. If I uncheck this option then I get the tables in right but I lose the rest of the formatting.
    Any idea how I can handle this?
    Thanks,
    Luke

    Luke,
    We had the same problem doing a table of data that had varying columns and rows. For us, this was handled by adding table information such as cell width and cellstyle on the incoming XML (generated through a backend system that was also gathering the data into XML files, through using xml templates). We found that placeholder tables were not an option if you wanted the columns to be flexible, so instead the tables were being built by the XML.
    If you are not using a backend system or don't have a way to customize the incoming data, I think you may be able to use XSLT as an intermediate way to apply more information to the XML (cell widths, etc) I am copying dummy tables below to show how the XML we used looked coming into the Indesign document. This code would all be contained within opening and closing "Root" tags in the XML. There are 3 separate tables (one called Summary, one actually called Table and one called Legend), each with its own cell widths and number of rows. The data container holds all tables, and a table growing in length will push the next table down on the page (or to the next page).
    Note that each table has a different tag (name), but is described as a table through the information contained in its opening tag's attributes. We also used both namespaces (4.0 and 5.0) to take advantage of cellstyle as well as pstyle tags in the table body, allowing each cell and copy block to be styled differently when needed.

  • How to handle pay scale tables in infotype 0008?

    Hi friends,
    I have 2 questions:
    1) What's the difference between "Pay Scale Groups And Levels" (view v_t510)  and "Pay Grades And Levels" (view v_t710). And In which case apply each one?.
    2) I have a pay scale table with differents levels, for each level i have a minimun and maximun salary. I think i can handle this by using "pay grades and levels", but in the infotype 8 in the pay scale data i indicate the type, the area, and when i going to select the group the search help displays the values of the "pay scale groups and levels" and i would like to know how to display the "pay grades and levels" instead of the displayed currently?.
    Thanks in advance,
    Albio Vivas.-

    1. Pay scales - >  These are used when you have logical step increases in employee's salary.  Fixed increases that can be defined in configuration.  These are good, becuase they are easily maintained through configuration and standard programs update the employee master data for you.
        Pay grades - > These are used when you do not have fixed compensation for employees and need a salary range to go by, so you use these are a range.
    2. As for manipulating whether an employee used a scale or a grade list on info type 8  is dictated by feature TARIF located in transaction PE03.
    thanks.

  • How to handle multiple database tables in a single UIX page?

    Hi,
    I am new to UIX & BC4J. I have to handle data from four different tables in the database. The scenario is as follows:
    The tables are
    1. user
    fields are: userid number, name varchar2
    2. business
    fields are: businessId number, name varchar2
    3. service
    fields are: serviceId number, serviceName varchar2
    4. userBusiness
    userid,businessid (both are foreign keys) & form complex primary keys.
    and userid,businessid, serviceId are primary keys.
    Now my problem is: to create a webpage where
    1. The userid is available in the httpSession Variable as string.
    2. according to the userId stored in the session variable I have to retrieve the business names and show them in a choice i.e., pull down box.
    3. I have to show the services provided by the business for the business name selected in the combo box.
    Could anyone Please help me solve this problem? Could you please give me hints? I have truncated the other fields in the tables.
    Thanking you,
    Velpandian .S

    At the moment, you can't do it declaratively. You have to do it in an event handler. Assuming you have the userid setup as a query parameter in the view object, something like this should get you started:
    public EventResult handleEvent(
    BajaContext context, Page page, PageEvent event) throws Throwable
    HttpSession session = context.getServletRequest().getSession(true);
    ViewObject view = ServletBindingUtils.getViewObject(context);
    String userid = session.getAttribute("userid");
    view.setWhereClauseParam(0, userid);
    view.executeQuery();
