Trouble creating PL/SQL connection from JDEV to 10g XE

Hi,
I am wanting to run PL/SQL from JDev against the hr table in the 10g XE database.
<br><br>
In doing so I first need to create <em>my first</em> connection from inside JDev 10.1.3.2.0 to an Oracle Lite (10g) database. Both are installed on my personal PC.
<br><br>
So far I have been unable to create the connection; here is where I am so far in my attempts:<br><br>
Enter the Create Database Connection Wizard<br>
1) Entered a connection name and choose "Oracle Lite" as the connection type<br>
2) Entered the User Name and Password for the System user of the 10g XE database<br>
3) Entered Type 4 Driver; Host Name: localhost, JDBC Port 100, SID XE<br>
4) I created my own library called "Oracle_Lite" with a class path that points to an olite40.jar file. I did not set the Source path or the Doc path when creating the library. Is this the correct library? <br>
5) When clicking "Test Connection" it comes back pretty quickly with "Internal Error:Invalid Connect String"<br><br>
After talking with a work mate I changed the JDBC Port to 1521 and now when I test the connection it starts testing and doesn't stop. The testing indicator bar continues going back and forth indefinitely. Can I assume I am at least now using the correct port?<br><br>
Any advice or general tips on creating the connection to allow PL/SQL against the 10g XE database from JDEV would be great.

Oracle 10g XE is not Oracle Lite. Just leave the connection type as the default - Oracle(JDBC), later use the thin JDBC driver, it should work. Continue to use port 1521 and SID as XE.

  • Error Creating Application Server 10.1.3.1 connection from JDev 10.1.3.1

    Hi All,
I have installed OAS 10.1.3 on Linux RH ES 4 and it is running.
But I get error when trying to create Application Server Connection from JDev 10.1.3.1. This is our first time with full version OAS, pls help..
Below is what I did :
    On Connection Tab :
    Connect To : Single Instance
    HostName : Linux2
    OPMN Port : 6003
    OC4J Instance Name : appserver
When I do Test Connection I get this error :
Error getting OC4J Process for: opmn-appserver+oc4j-linux2.sas.co.id-6003-default:
Error connecting to OPMN (is it running?): Connection refused: connect
I have check with OPMN status on the OAS Server, it is running.
    What is wrong here ?
    Thank you for your help,
    xtanto

    Hi Xanto,
I assume it does work because but I could not get it to work. It may have been my inexperience with the connection settings to the server. There seemed to be a number of methods of deployment and it was unclear what was needed.
Also, when i used the Enterprise Server Control I could see the deployment crashing with out of memory errors.
The Enterprise Server Console link can be found on the home page for the AS eg:
    http://your-server.com:7777/
Both the server port and oc4jadmin password would have been specified during the install of the 10G AS. The ESC is also needed for configuring security providers and settings for the OC4J.
If you find you are having memory problems this is the memory configuration fix from the middleware forums:
10.1.3 Apps Server java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space

  • SQL Developer from JDev

I am doing the « Database Development with JDeveloper » tutorial. In the tutorial we create two SQL scripts that we can run with SQL*PLUS from inside JDEV. The tutorial asks us to use sqlplusw.exe. However I don’t have sqlplusw, I only have sqlplus.exe, the command line version.
When I saw SQL Developer was claiming “Oracle SQL Developer is a graphical version of SQL*Plus” (First sentence of Online Help), I naively thought that I could use sqldeveloper.exe instead of sqlplusw.exe.
When I try to run the SQL script from JDEV, it seems to open an empty SQL Developer window in JDEV, with no possibilities of running scripts.
I know that in the next version of JDev SQL Developer should be integrated but, in the mean time does anyone know a way to open and run a SQL script from JDEV using SQL Developer as the tutorial requires it?
I'm not sure if this makes sense.

You can use the sqlplus.exe instead of the sqlplusw.exe the results should be the same.

  • Discussion Server connection from Jdev

    Hi,
I am using jdev version 11.1.1.6.
I am able to connect to discussion server from browser. But when I am creating a connection from Jdev, it says Failed to verify connection.
Can you please suggest how to make successful connection to the discussion server from jdev?
    Thanks for reply.
    Rohan

I'm getting the same error and have found the following in my server logs:
05/11/02 19:27:40 Internal error raised trying to instantiate web-application
java.lang.InstantiationException: No application named 'hw_services' found in the server
It seems the OC4J Server is not starting up properly. I'm running the lastest patch version on a OracleAS midtier. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • How to create a new connection from SAPGUI to Test drive?

    Hi,
I have installed Sap Netweaver Test drive on a linux virtual machine (windows host). The installation was successful and I was able to start the instance (application server and the database), yet I don't know how to create a new connection from my SAPGUI client (7.20) to this server. The static IP address of the server is 192.168.1.160.
I entered the following values for my new connection entry
    Description: SAP Netweaver
    Application server: 192.168.1.160
    Instance number: 01
    System ID: DB2
    SAProuter: /H/192.168.1.160/S/3201/H/
But it does not work. Any idea about the values needed  for creating a new entry?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Cannot create an Essbase connection from Workspace

    Hi all,
I have a new install and I cannot create a Essbase connection from Workspace. I can successfully create the essbase connection from Reporting Studio but I can't use that connection from Workspace. It seems like Workspace can't connect to Essbase. Has anyone experienced this before? Thanks...

Workspace can connect to Essbase. To connect to Essbase perform the below task:
    1) Install Essbase Client on the Server where you have install BI Services.
    2) Configure DAS by using Service Configurator.
    3) Create an OCE which should connect to Essbase Server.
    4) Import OCE in to Workspace. Use this oce to create connection.
    Hope this helps you.

    Mit,
No need to import the connection. Just create a connection for Application Server.
step-1 : Go to VIEW > DATABASE CONNECTION NAVIGATOR
step-2 : Right click on APPLICATION SERVER
step-3 : Select New Connectionn from the context menu.
    step-4 : Enter the Details

  • Unable to create a CVS Connection in Jdev

    Hi
Im sucessfull getting CVS connection, if i connect JDEV to CVS when both are on the same machine A. Im using Windows XP Professional.
Im are trying to connect the Jdev in machine B to the CVS Repository on machine A.
Its a multiple developer environment and need to work on the same workspace.
While creating the connection, we specified the HostName,
UserName as windows NT userid and CVS repository folder.
I had tried with server, External, Pserver.
While Test Connection , im getting
    Testing connection...
warning: unrecognized response `'ssh' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
RSH failed - did not respond.
Connection test failed: unable to connect.
If i check both ssh and rsh and try to connect again ..im getting
    Testing connection...
Connection test failed: unable to connect.
So what is the setting i need to provide in JDev and in CVS Server
    to get the connection.
    Please get back to me.
    Regards
    Mohan

    Hi
You'll first need to decide on your access method. I would recommend setting up :pserver: access on machine A - some instructions for this up can be found in the CVS manual:
    http://ximbiot.com/cvs/manual/cvs-1.12.1/cvs_2.html#SEC26
If you're using a release of JDev before 10.1.3 Preview, you'll also need to download and install CVS client on machine B and put in on your PATH. Otherwise, you can use JDev's internal CVS client by selecting Tools > Preferences > Versioning > CVS > Internal to Oracle JDeveloper.
    Thanks,

  • Connect to MS-SQL Server from a Oracle 10g running under Solaris

    Hi,
I have the following problem. I want to access a MS-SQL server from an Oracle database (10g Enterprise licence) that is running on Solaris.
After googling a while, the following questions arise:
    - Is it correct that the Oracle Transparant Gateway for the SQL Server is not available on Solaris platforms (but only on Windows)?
    - Is it right, that the second possibility to solve this problem is to use an SQL-Server odbc driver for Solaris and access the SQL-Server over ODBC? And: Is this feature included in the Enterprise licence?
    - If yes, which driver is good and cheap ;-)?
    - Is there any other way to solve this problem?
    Thanks
    Aron

I believe the Transparenet Gateway for SQL Server is available on Solaris. The problem is that you need a Unix based ODBC driver which you will also need to pay for.
We had this same problem and decided to run a windows based Heterogeneous Services gateway and routed through it instead of using the SQL Server transparent gateway. The Heterogenous severives gateway is NOT an add on product (as is Transparent Gateway). The drawback would be performance as I would expect the native MS SQL transparent gateway to perform better, but in our case it worked acceptably.

  • Multiple remote debugger connections from JDev

    Hello,
I'm running JDev Studio Edition Version 11.1.2.3.0

Can somebody please clarify whether it's possible to open multiple remote debugger connections in JDev?

    Hi, Nodex,
    Avoid implicit conversions.
    For example:
    TO_CHAR(TRUNC(NEXT_DAY(ADD_MONTHS(substr(partition_name, -8, length(partition_name)), -3), 'MONDAY')-7), 'YYYYMMDD')ADD_MONTHS expects a DATE as its first argument.
    SUBSTR returns a VARCHAR2, so you're calling ADD_MONTHS with a VARCHAR2 where it expects a DATE.
For good or ill, the system tries to avoid raising an error in this case by implicitly converting the VARCHAR2 to a DATE. Exactly how it does that depends on
    (a) the tool you are using (SQL*Plus or Toad, for example),
    (b) the version (Oracle 10 behaved quite different form Oracle 9),
    (c) environmental settings (such as NLS_DATE_FORMAT), which in turn may depend on initialization parameneters, and
    (d) who knows what else.
When you have to convert, do so explicitly.
You can convert a VARCHAR2 to a DATE using TO_DATE, like this:
    TO_CHAR ( TRUNC ( NEXT_DAY ( ADD_MONTHS ( TO_DATE ( SUBSTR ( partition_name
                                                       , -8
                                          , LENGTH (partition_name)
                                     , 'YYYYMMDD'     -- or whatever
                             , -3
                      , 'MONDAY'
              - 7
         , 'YYYYMMDD'
         )
