How to handle no of BPEL process Instances

Hi,
I am facing issue at my cleint. Here is the scenario
1) I have Business Event
2) BPEL is subscribed to event using Oracle Application Adapter
3) No every time new message comes in queue, causes new BPEL process Instances
4) So suppose there are 1 million message per day then BPEL Server is dying.
What is the best way to handle it?

This is managed via the dspMaxThreads and ReceiverThreads parameters, by default these are set to poor values, dspMaxThreads by default is set to 100 (domain level) whereas by default ReceiverThreads is set to 40. According to the performance guide the total of dspMaxThreads for all domains should be <= ReceiverThreads, so making some adjustment to the dspMaxThreads parameter should help.

  • How does a BPEL process instance know it has been cancel()ed?

    The javadoc for the IInstanceHandle cancel() method says, "When an activity is cancelled, the performer of the activity is notified of the cancellation and is given an opportunity to rollback or cancel any work that has already been done on behalf of the activity."
    How exactly is the performer of the activity notified? Some kind of fault? Can one code a "cancel handler" in the BPEL process, or is the "rollback or cancel" all done behind the scenes?
    Either a full answer or a pointer to the appropriate documentation (which I haven't yet been able to find) would be fine. Thanks.

    The BPEL instance can be canceled via the BPEL API or via console (Abort instance) or due to an error. Then the BPEL Process Manager will detect this and cancel the running instance. The instance will do a transaction rollback, depending if it was a global (XA) or local transactions. This whole mechanism is executed behind the scenes.

  • How to update the payload of a BPEL process instance

    Hi I have another question.
    How do I update the payload of a BPEL process instance without the activity being a Human Task. I know there are ton's of example showing how to update the payload of a user task using BPEL API's. But in my case I need to update the payload of a BPEL process instance which has no human task.

    Thanks
    For confirming that the payload in the BPEL process instance is read-only. Now I can see what alternatives I come up with besides the DB save option.
    Guys if you can take the time to answer/comment on another question I have posted in this forum that will be great
    here is the link

  • BPEL process instance getting created twice

    Hi,
    We have B2B - BPEL integration developed using AQ and we are using this for importing 850 Purchase Orders. It is a simple flow involving dequeuing 850 transaction message by the AQ adapter and processing the message through Receive, Transform and Invoke activities to invoke a PL/SQL procedure to insert data into the Order Management Open Interface tables.
    The issue we are facing is that the BPEL process instance is getting generated twice resulting in duplicate rows in the interface tables.
    Please if any one faced this kind of issue, let me know the solution.
    Regards,
    Balu

    This issue is closed. We were able to identify to cause for the issue. The EDI document came in with two POs which generated two separate messages.

  • BPEL Console In-Flight BPEL Process Instances

    Hi!
    We are using BPEL Console 10.1.3.4.0 to monitor all BPEL Processes, but we cannot see any In-Flight BPEL Process Instances in the Dashboard.
    Can anybody tell me what's wrong
    Thanks in advance!
    /Nick

    So, you have BPEL flows that are starting and completing, but do you have any flows that you think will run long enough for you to see them on In-flight section of the dashboard.
    In our project, the only flows that I typically see there are flows that are waiting on a receive, or on a "wait activity", other flows synchronous/asynchronous do not execute for long enough for them to be visable as being in-flight, unless I 'catch' then just after they have started.

  • API / Webservice to access the state information of a bpel process instance

    Hi,
    i have a question about the ccBPM runtime API.
    Is there a API or Webservice provided by SAP XI/PI, which accesses the state information of a bpel process instance.
    "access" means:
    1. At which activity is the current process instance located
    2. Access to the context information of the process
    Thanks and best regards
    Di

    Hi Swarup,
    Thanks for your quick reply.
    I designed a simple BPM process with less than 10 activities. To monitor the process running state i want to build a small AddOn instead of using the standard xi monitoring tool because of its complexibility.
    Thus i am looking for some useful informations about a api or webservice provided direktly by sap, which enables me to access (read only) the state information of a process instance. for exmaple at which activity is the current process instance located?
    Best regards

  • In-Flight BPEL Process Instances not getting Completed

    Hi,
    I have BPEL P.M. 10.1.3.1.0 running. In BPEL Console I can see few process in
    In-Flight BPEL Process Instances section. But in realty those process should be in completed section. When I login as bpeladmin in worklist application, I see those process are in completed status.
    What can be issue? Any one come across this? Any patch available from metalink to resolve this?
    Need help resolving this issue.
    Regards,
    Jigar

    I see this too sometimes. In my case it's mostly due to the fact that the first activity that takes places after the callback fails. E.g. a transform that fails with a type error.
    Check the bpel domain log file to find any errors in your bpel that's receiving the callback. There's probably something wrong with an assign or transform there.
    The domain logfile can be found @: $ORACLE_HOME/bpel/domains/<your_domain>/logs/domain.log

  • How to call a Asynchronous bpel process from a PLSQL procedure?

    How to call a Asynchronous bpel process from a PLSQL procedure?

    Hi,
    You could do something smart and technical very spiffy with soap-stacks in the database and/or dbms_ws/dbms_http. But I allways find AQ with AQ-adapter the simplest. Let Pl/sql enqueue a message on an aq-queue and subscribe an aq-adapter process on it. That can call your async-bpel process. If you want to get answer back in pl/sql, let the aq-adapter process enqueue a response message on another queue or on the same queue with another consumer name. Give it a correlation-id that you provided in the payload of your request message. Your pl/sql process can then do a dequeue on that correlation-id. It will sit and wait until a message with that correlation id is enqueued on the queue.

  • How to emulate invoke in BPEL process test

  • Any API to get handle to Outbound BPEL process endpoint activation?

    Hi,
    we are developing both inbound and outbound BPEL processes using a custom JCA 1.5 based adapter. For the inbound BPEL process deployment/undeployment, we have the ResourceAdapter's endpointActivate() endpointDeactivate() methods called in and so we can post process, like clean up endpoints when these methods get called. Is there somethign simillar that we can use as an API to get a handle to the outbound process endpoints deactivate/activate, so that we can clean up these too, or does the oracle adapter framework internally clean these up?
    Also even though we undeploy all processes before stopping the adapter (from the bpel console), after that if we redeploy the adapter rar, from then on any new BPEL process deployment (through jdeveloper) always throws a "500 Internal Server Error". Only after restarting the SOA, then on any new deployments go through fine. This is a serious limitation for us.. Any idea why this is happening and how to resolve this?
    Thanks
    Pramodh

    Hi Pramodh,
    That's a nice requirement.
    The inbound (ActivationSpec) properties can only be set dynamically (typically via the BPEL console) if their values are bound via property values defined in bpel.xml for the particular JCA Activation Agent in question. This is fundamentally as per the JCA 1.5 design where EndpointActivation (which receives an instance of ActivationSpec) takes place when the BPEL process starts up, i.e. only once. More often than not the BPEL process will have to be bounced (Off/On) for ActivationSpec attribute changes to take effect (thereby allowing the JCA 1.5 inbound message endpoint to be restarted/reinitialized). Some adapters do look dynamically for changes to bpel.xml bound values (subscribed to via the adapter framework) and will react appropriately without the need for bumping the process (e.g. adjusting a timeout or retryCount or other secondary attribute which doesn't change the first order attributes of the endpoint, such as e.g. the database host name etc). An example of an activation property which requires the adapter to restart is the JMS adapter MessageSelector property.
    Having said that, please try using the activation agent properties set in the outbound PL and see if that works!
    Cheers

  • BPEL Process instance termination based on correlation

    Hi All
    Looking for a sample BPEL (not BPM) Process for instance termination based on correlation (say while an order process in running, customer can cancel order anytime).
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    regards
    sibendu

    Hi,
    Inorder to work with correlation sets, you need to define what is the unique element you want to share across multiple instances....so how to execute a long running process...you can do many things like userRegistration, AuctionSystem, VotingSystem with correlations...
    For that, define the correlation set property and choose a unique id for that...,then define the correlation set and add the correlation set property which you have defined earlier...Now associate this correlation set property in all the messages you exchange with your BPEL ...See the exact syntax in Oracle DOcumentaion and work on your flow...
    Thanks,

  • Creating a Web Service to handle flow between BPEL process and XML Gateway

    I am new to Web Services. I have never created one, yet I have the task of designing the following for a project.
    Any help as to what steps I need to take would be very very helpful. There is a lot of information on XML, SOA and WSDL out there that it can get very confusing, and sometimes you just need someone to point the way
    What I need to do is create a Custom Send and a Custom Receive Program (both web services) handle the message flow between an Enterprise BPEL processes and a Deployed XML Gateway.
    BPEL compresses this XML business object document (for faster transmission), and sends remotely to this Custom Receive web service, which in turn calls a decompress java program and then send the document to the XML gateway inbound web service.
    The Custom Send web service does just the opposite. It needs to take the business object document from XML gateway, call the compress java program and then send to the Enterprise BPEL.
    In a nutshell...these Custom Send/Receive Web services handle the message flow between the Enterprise BPEL process and the Deployed XML Gateway.
    What I need help on...
    -Creating this in JDeveloper- where do I get started?
    -How does a web service receive a compressed file sent to me via BPEL? Does it just sit there waiting for it?
    -Is this a synchronous or asynchronous design?
    -Will this be 2 web services (Send and Receive) or do I make 1 with 2 functionalities
    -How do I call the java compress/decompress program within the web service? (this java function is already created and ready to be called)
    -Is this decompressed business object file an XML schema and an XML message? Or just a message?
    -I need to send this to the XML Gateway Web Service to load. How does that work?
    -I have a Generic XML Gateway WSDL file...I assume I need to take all the info I get and map it to this template? Is this true? How do I do that?
    Like I said, any help would be appreciated. Links answers to my many questions would be fabulous.
    -Jason

    If you are talking about simple XML transformation of the SOAP payload between the client calling your service and the final destination of the message you are routing, the ESB approach may be a better fit.
    If you have more complex transformation in mind, with major processing and rework of the message in the intermediary, you may be better of with using the POJO approach. Write your service and embed a callout to the other service in your implementation. If the two services share the same Java Model, you may even be able to re-use the same Java Bean.
    To get SOAP Element instead of Java bean, you just need to use the noDataBinding option with either genProxy and topDownAssemble (or assemble). See the WS-Guide [1] for details. Chapter 18 will give you all the details about the different WSA command line parameters.
    Hope this helps,

  • How to access biz data of process instances in workspace at any time in 11g

    Hi,
    We are using Oracle BPM Suite 11g.
    Our users want to be able to check and search the business data associated with the process instance at any time (i.e. even after the instance is completed. And the business data should be included in the task list or search result list in the BPM workspace.
    I am new to Oracle BPM 11g. Please help. For the data to be displayed in the workspace, should I define them as “Process Data Objects”?
    Regarding to how to display the data, I find something about Flexfield. But the Oracle document says the Flexfield is for the data that saved in human workflow database schema. When the process instance is completed, will the data in human workflow database for this instance be removed? Can I setup flexfield for the Process Data Objects?

    Hi Ramandeep,
    Apparently I am not getting the required exception.
    I have a TF that outputs an Invalid Region Site when I run it and the when I run it I only got the loading page image of ADF.
    Looking at JDEV logs, I see an Invalid Region Site error
    Here's what I did, I created a TF template with only one view in it like this.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="windows-1252" ?>
    <adfc-config xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/controller" version="1.2">
      <task-flow-template id="TFTemplate">
        <default-activity id="__7">errorPage</default-activity>
        <exception-handler id="__14">errorPage</exception-handler>
        <view id="errorPage">
          <page>/com/test/errorPage.jsff</page>
        </view>
        <use-page-fragments/>
      </task-flow-template>
    </adfc-config>My error page as this:
    <af:panelGroupLayout id="pgl1">
         <af:outputText value="Error has occurred!" id="ot2"/>
         <af:outputText value="#{pageFlowScope.MyErrorHandler.stacktrace}" id="ot1"/>
    </af:panelGroupLayout>...and my bean.
    public class MyErrorHandler
      public String getStacktrace() {
        ControllerContext context = ControllerContext.getInstance();
        ViewPortContext currentRootViewPort = context.getCurrentRootViewPort();
        Exception exceptionData = currentRootViewPort.getExceptionData();
        if (currentRootViewPort.isExceptionPresent())
          if(exceptionData!=null)
            return exceptionData.getMessage();
        return null;
      }But exception data still returns null.
    I exactly wanted to show this invalid region site but it seems I cannot catch it.
    Any idea why?
