How to implement a custom UI control

I need to display interactive maps on the Windows SAP GUI. The maps
are dynamically generated and fetched from an external map server using ABAP.
The interactive map should be scrollable and allow the user to select a single or multiple POIs (Point Of Interest) using the mouse and drag and drop them into
a table and/or tree. There should be an visual indication on the map
for selected POIs and a tooltip displaying additional information should
pop up if the cursor is placed above a POI. I've implemented all this using
SWT / Java already which was pretty straight forward.
I looked at the CL_GUI_PICTURE control but it seems that I would need more
events (such as OnMouseMove, OnLeft/RightButtonDown, OnLeft/RightButtonUp,
OnDrag) in order to implement this. I think that the CL_GUI_PICTURE has
just a few events in order to minimize client/server interactions.
What are my options to implement such an interactive map on SAP GUI?
I found this blog where a custom control is implemented using ActiveX:
/people/thomas.jung3/blog/2004/09/01/using-net-windows-controls-in-the-abap-control-framework
Is this the way to go? Is there an official developers guide for custom
UI controls from SAP?

Hi Dominik,
Sorry but I don't have an answer - I have been trying to solve the same problem for a while now. I even contacted Thomas Jung directly, but was not able to solve the event sink\handler problem. Although I did manage to re-create his example and display a .NET VB Textbox within the SAP GUI...
If you do manage to get any further - please let me know how you managed to get the event handling to work...

  • How to implement the sequence view controls in the customized LabVIEW UI

    Hi,
    I'd like to use LabVIEW to run the TestStand Sequence, and show the execution windows in the UI.(something llike the attached image)
    I followed my senior's method : connected the sequence view controls into the TestStand UI Execution View Manager as objects.
    Then use the register event callback to build a callback VI.
    The callback VI is checking which the RunState of the Execution Manager is stopped and assigning the execution to that Execution Manager.
    Though it works, but really confuses me, needless to say to you all.
    Could someone give me some suggestion how to show the execution windows in the LabVIEW UI? I'll appreciate your help.

  • How to implement result states in custom web dynpro components

    Hi all,
    My callable objects are custom implemented -web dynpro Componenets
    How am i to implement the result states in them so that i can use them to take logical decisions.?
    There is decision dialog component in  Process Control Callable Object. It has Exit states. I need my component also to have exit states like that
    Help me to implement this.
    Points assured for help

    Hi Shobhendra,
    You can define the result states of your custom Web Dynpro callable object like this in the getDescription() method:
    //add success result state
    IGPCOResultStateInfo success =               technicalDescription.addResultState("Success");
    success.setDescriptionKey("Success");
    //add failure result state
    IGPCOResultStateInfo failure =               technicalDescription.addResultState("Failed");
    failure.setDescriptionKey("Failure");
    And in the custom comelete() method (which will be called at the end of the execution of the WDP comp from GP) you can set the actual resultstate at runtime:
    executionContext.setResultState("Success");
    or
    executionContext.setResultState("Failed");
    The result states defined in the WDP callable object will appear in the the GP design time and you can set target for each result state.
    For more info on how to implement the WDP callable object check the doc:

  • How to Implement BW in IT Service Desk/IT Help Desk /IT Complain Surveillance Dept/IT Customer Support Dept?

    Hi
    If a organization have 200 to 300 daily complains of there IT equipment/Software/Network e.t.c.
    How to Implement BW in IT Service Desk/IT Help Desk /IT Complain Surveillance Dept/IT Customer Support Dept?
    Is there any standard DataSources/InfoObjects/DSOs/InfoCubes etc. available in SAP BI Content?

    Imran,
    The point I think was to ensure that you knew exactly what was required. A customer service desk can have many interpretations from a BI perspective.
    You could have :
    1. Operational reports - calls attended per shift , Average number of calls per person , Seasonality in the calls coming in etc
    2. Analytic views - Utilization of resources , Average call time and trending , customer satisfaction , average wait time
    3. Strategic - Call volumes corresponding to campaigns etc , Employee churn and related call times
    Based on these you would then have to construct your models which would be populated by data from the MySQL instance for you to report.
    Else if you have BWA you could have data discovery instead or if you have HANA - you could do even more and if you have a HANA sidecar - you technically dont need BW. The possibilities are virtually endless - it depends on how you want to drive it and how the end user ( client ) sees value in the same.

  • How to create a custom control of a button where the look will be applied to all others but not the Boolean text?

    Hi all
    I would like to create a customized button as a master so that if I change the look of the master all other buttons will change too.
    I have done this with a custom control as a "strict type def" otherwise the look will not change BUT If I do this as a strict type def I cannot change the Boolean text anymore which should be different on every button.
    How can I create a master control of a button where the look will be applied to all others but not the Boolean text?

    I don't think you can do that. I just looked and as I suspected the Boolean text property is read only for strict typedefs so you cannot use property nodes to change the text.
    As a workaround just make it a typedef. When you want to change the look open the typedef and make it strict, make your changes, then make it non strict again. You will have to update the Boolean text again for all instances. Kind of a pain. Maybe this is something for the idea exchange.

  • How do I reuse a custom java control in another project?

    Relatively simple question, but I am having a lot of trouble with this. Documentation
    alludes to this being possible and easy, but never says how (and the only tutorials
    I can find describe creating a custom java control in the same project where they
    are used):
    "You can design a custom control for use in one project, or you can design a custom
    control for easy reuse in multiple projects." (from WLS docs on Java Controls)
    "When the control project builds, all of the controls and associated files are
    compiled into a single jar file and pushed onto the classpath of the containing
    application for immediate use and testing by other projects in the application.
    This jar is self-contained and can be moved to any other application by adding
    it to the application’s Library folder. Appropriately marked controls in the Library
    it will automatically appear on the user’s palette, ready for incorporation into
    an application." (from dev2dev article on controls, P. Hussey)
    I have a Workshop application which contains a few projects. One project is a
    component project, another is a web project. I created a custom java control in
    the control project and built it (JAR appeared in the Libraries folder). Now I
    open up the page flow in my web app project, and try to drag the java control
    onto my page flow - but I get an eror that the control must reside in the same
    project! It does not automatically appear on my palate, so if I go over to the
    palate on the right, and try to "add control" I only get a list containing the
    BEA controls - no custom controls are listed.
    What am I doing wrong? How can I incorporate my custom control into a web project?
    I don't want to move the control in the web project, since this contradicts the
    concept of a separate shared library. I should be able to build a library of controls
    and reuse them in our web projects right?

    Please disregard... I got it to work. For some reason I had to close Workshop,
    restart it, then I reloaded the application, rebuilt the control project, and
    now my control appears in the list of controls and can be easliy added to the
    palette.

  • How to add a custom multimedia playback control to add a time line of what is being played?

    How to add a custom skin in multimedia playback control to add a time line of what is being played?  As it is being played...
    I need a time line so any part of the what is being played can be found by time, ie at 1 minute and 30 seconds in and continues for 45 seconds out of a 50 minute audo.

    If you're talking about a playback controller within the rich media annotation (RMA) then you need to write your own widget in Flash or Flex, and then place the video and widget files using the multimedia "Add Flash" tool in Acrobat instead of the "Add Video" tool. Aside from a bunch of proprietary code to handle events, commenting and the API (which you can live without for basic play-pause-scrub applications), video RMAs are just an embedded SWF file containing an FLVPlayback component. The skin and the video file itself are added to the RMA as resource entries. You can build your own version and have it display whatever controls you want, provided you know how to write ActionScript!
    If you're talking about a controller that's external to the RMA (e.g. a series of links or buttons elsewhere on the page) then in the past you would use FLV video files and the 'cue points' feature that's built into Acrobat - however Adobe removed the ability to create FLV files in the latest version of CC, so unless you have CS6 or earlier it's a non-starter. Instead you can manually set playback start points using the special "multimedia operations" link action in your PDF - though stopping playback at a defined point is very difficult without FLV cues. For that you're back to writing your own widget.

  • How to implement custom methods on form submit

    I'm a newbie to ADF environment, coming from pl/sql world. I have already tried default drag and drop functionality for forms. But, with new requirements, I need to write some custom code to create and update form. I read about managed beans, but didn't quite understand it. Any pointers to examples are appreciated.

    Suganth,
    Sometimes, the default form to create and edit built (drag and drop) on top of BCs may not be enough to code all the business logic. In that case, I'm looking for the basic steps involved to implement such custom logic. For example, I may need to call a managed bean or some stored procedure from ADF faces. Since, I'm totally new to ADF, I don't know how to go about it and right way to do it in ADF environment. Any pointers to such examples are appreciated.

  • How to implement custom field renderer?

    I'm trying to create a custom field renderer that will render certain database fields as checkboxes in HTML. I'm using the Data Web Beans/JSP approach. In my view object I have added a "Boolean" property to the attributes that represent boolean type fields (e.g., field Warranty to indicate if an asset is under warranty). I have created a CheckBoxField() class similar to the TextField() class, and call it if the attribute is a boolean, but I can't figure out how to set the custom field renderer. When the program runs, it still uses the TextField renderer. The JDeveloper online documentation doesn't say anything about it. Is there a sample program or some other documentation that implements a custom field renderer?

  • How to access the Custom Data type variable given in Expression edit control To and From LabVIEW

    Hello, I would like to know how to access the custom data type variable given in the Espression Edit Control from LabVIEW and vice-versa

    VISA I/O session (Which in turn contains VISA_DeviceName: String, Session: Number),

    I am expecting the user to give FileGlobals.Reference_Handle as the input at the ExpressionEdit Control in the edit screen of the VI Call.
    I would like to know how to get the values of this custom data type to LabVIEW?
    Say, if I have the Cluster in LabVIEW like VISA I/O session (Deive Name and Session Number), Channel1 and Channel2
    how do i need to set this cluster to the Custom Data type variable in TestStand?

  • How to implement a client side map with ObjectImage control?

    We need to implement a client side map with an ADF Faces ObjectImage control. In the code below, the JSF Faces GraphicImage contol does support a client side image map using the usemap property. However, it appears that the ADF Faces ObjectImage control does not support a client side map. Is there someway of implementing this functionality in an ObjectImage control?
    <h:graphicImage url="/images/map-usa.gif"
    usemap="#m_mapusa"
    binding="#{backing_map.graphicImage2}"
    id="graphicImage2"
    style="border-style:none;"/>
    <af:objectImage source="/images/map-usa.gif"
    binding="#{backing_map.objectImage2}"
    id="objectImage2" />
    We could use the Graphic Image control except we have a problem by mixing a JSF GraphicImage control in the same table with a variety of ADF Faces controls in that when a user clicks on the GraphicImage, then the browser windows scrolls down to center the GraphicImage control. A user then needs to scroll back up to see the rest of the page. If an ObjectImage control is used with an onClick action, then the page does not scroll, which is what we want. So if we can figure out how to add a client side map to an ObjectImage control we would get the desired results.
    An alternative might be to use a server side map with the ObjectImage control. But our question here is how to implement the existing client side image map in a backing bean. As the following map code shows, not all image map areas are rectangles - some are polygons.
    <area id="_state_05" href="#"
    shape="rect"
    coords="681,38,702,50"
    target="_self" value="VT" alt="Vermont"
    onclick="javascript:getDtl(this);"/>
    <area id="_state_06" href="#"
    shape="poly"
    coords="221,442,209,436,209,418,191,403,155,382,116,367,101,370,98,364,
    122,355,158,367,203,388,212,394,242,427"
    target="_self" value="HI" alt="Hawaii"
    onclick="javascript:getDtl(this);"/>

    Hi,
