How to import a .swf photogallery to my .fla project?

Hi, I need help please, I am very new to Flash. I created a
photo-album that came as a template with CS3 and published it to
.swf file; separately I am designing a .fla website hoping to use
the photo-album in it. I imported .swf photo-album into my .fla
library, but now I am stuck - I don't know how to link this .swf
file to a button in my .fla site. I tried actionscrip code, but I
received an error when testing the movie. I can't find an answer to
this in any of the books I have searched, or online. Can anyone
share their brilliant knowledge please? Thank you!

I can't thank you enough for replying; you have to forgive me
for my coding illiteracy, this is my very first project in Flash.
I searched some and realized that having a movieclip of the
photoalbum is better than having an external .swf file, so I will
go with your second way of linking the album.
I created a button for the album, and I have converted the
.swf photoalbum into a movieclip symbol that I see in my library
now (named it photos). But I can't assign an instance to it - when
I click on it from the library I get a new 'scene' on the stage
with all the photoalbum layers, and there is nowhere where I can
name an instance. So instead I inserted a movieclip symbol on a new
layer of my .fla site, but as soon as I do it I don't see it on the
timeline anymore.
Can you explain what am I doing wrong please, like to a kid?
I am a bit flustered at not being able to figure this out.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Liza

  • Importing a SWF file into AS3 FLA

    Hi,
    I've imported some SWF files I've built, under base class
    flash.display.MovieClip, into an AS3 code-only (Flash 9 on
    Macintosh) file. The visuals work fine when I call
    importedMovieClip.play(), but there's no sound.
    My current method is pretty simple:
    - Import the SWF into the library with classname
    ImportedMovieClip and base class of Movie Clip.
    - var importedMovieClip:ImportedMovieClip = new
    ImportedMovieClip();
    - theBackGroundSpite.addChildAt(importedMovieClip,
    theNightSky.numChildren);
    - importedMovieClip.play();
    I've done a workaround by building and importing separate
    soundtracks but since there's a fair bit of animated lip-synching I
    am not keen on having to do this twice and would prefer my imported
    SWF to bring its soundtrack with it.
    Obviously I am missing something ... How do I access the
    soundtrack within an imported SWF? Do I setup another SoundChannel
    using the imported MovieClip, or is there a MovieClip property I
    need to switch on, or is there some other method?
    Cheers
    Dougal

    You do not want to import an swf file.  You should either load it in dynamically or copy and paste its timeline into a movieclip symbol in your other file.

    Hello Tara,
    It's simple, I've developed an animation with Catalyst (took me 2 days...to learn a move forward) and i would like to use that animation inside a flash website. so i'm trying to load the Catalyst swf file animation inside my flash main movie without success !
    I"m tryin to do : loadMovie("catalyst_animation.swf", TargetA);  TargetA is an empty movie clip located a certain position.
    the loadMovie("catalyst_animation.swf", 0); is working but this is not what i want for a clear reason (loading inside and at a certain position).
    Thank you for our help.

  • How to convert a .swf file into an .fla file?

    I am very new to this and need some help. I have been given a couple .swf files and I need to make edits on them. Is it possible to open these or will I need to completely remake them? I have tried in Flash Professional: File> Import> Import to stage. There is no animation or timing. It's just flat.. I also tried from the actual .swf file: File> Create Projector but it was grey'd out and wouldn't let me choose it. Am I missing something?
    Thanks!!

    That's what I was afraid of! Thanks for the answer

  • How to import a c. 2001 Premiere 6 project?

    I used Premiere on the Mac until Adobe abandoned the Mac platform, and I have several projects, including a documentary, that I cut in it. I believe that version was Premiere 6, maybe 6.5?, sometime around 2001.
    Now that Premiere is back on the Mac, I'd like to revive those old projects and recut them, but I see this:
    Premiere Pro on Mac OS imports projects from version CS3 onwards. You need the Windows version to open projects from earlier versions and save them as a current one.
    Can it really be they are they saying you need a Windows version of Premiere Pro CC to open an older Mac-generated project? Or are they saying you need a legacy, PC version of Premiere to pull an old project into the present?
    If it's the former, I suppose I need to find someone with Premiere Pro CC on Windows, yes? And then that new project (imported into the prproj format) will be openable by Premiere Pro Mac?

    Hi luchesse. Congratulations on inheriting the new position
    and welcome to the world of RH.
    You can start by looking at
    this
    link on Peter Grainge's site. Whilst you are there, bookmark
    his home page as it is an encyclopedia RH resource.
    Something else to check is that your project's source files
    are on a local drive? RH and network drives aren't buddies!

  • How to import part of a sequence from a project to another project ?

    I am having some problem figuring out how to do this:
    I have an opening sequence which consist of about 20 clips using 7 video tracks.
    Now I want to use this opening sequence onto a new project. How do I copy this opening sequence onto a new project with the 20 clips on exactly the same position in the 7 video tracks ?
    NB: I know how to copy a single clip or a single photo from one project to the other project (I just open the 2 projects & I have 2 tabs) but I am at a lost as to how to copy sequence from one project to the other.
    Thanks
    Thanks

    Drag the original sequence in the browser into your new sequence, as if you were adding a normal clip. This is called nesting sequences.
    I see, so I am learning something new here.
    When I drag the original sequence in the browser into the new sequence in the timeline, there is only one clip instead of 20 clips. But it plays as if all the 20 clips were there.
    Does that mean that I cannot edit the 20 clips in the new sequence ?
    Thanks

  • HT5148 how to import youtube videos in a FCP X project?

    I would like to import videos from youtube in my own FCPX projects.
    I tried and failed because FCPX does not recognize the youtube video I imported.
    Who could give me the solution?
    Thanks

    It's a clip from CNN (with all credits etc. added). When one refers to it as a clip posted on "YouTube", then people understand the quality will be poor.
    I've watched television go from everything shot on a tripod with clean, meticulous editing rules, to almost anything goes. It has to do with cultural reference.

  • I am unable to import a SWF file in Premiere Pro

    Please indicate how to import an SWF file into Premiere Pro. I tried to import as an movie, but it would not work.

    Hello,
    As of Adobe Premiere Pro 7.1, you cannot import FLV files directly into Adobe Premiere Pro. While working with FLV footage, use Adobe Media Encoder to import the FLV files and transcode the FLV files into a supported file type. For example, use the H.264 format.
    After Effects and Adobe Media Encoder still support the import of FLV files.
    FLV file export is still available within Adobe Premiere Pro.

  • How can I import a .swf file in Adobe Flash CS4?

    Hi,
    How can I import a .swf file in Adobe Flash CS4?
    Thanks.

    you can use file/import but that would be a mistake.
    you should "load" your swf, not import it.
    if you want to load it and need help, are you using as2 or as3?

  • How to open/import an swf for editing

    I have had a coder create a presentation for my site, he
    designed it with Flash 8, and it has some minor text/spelling
    mistakes that I would like to repair. I have installed Suite 8, and
    have downloaded the files from my server, but can't figure out how
    to "import" or open them in Flash 8 for editing? They only open as
    the swf, and cannot be edited? HELP!

    i have no ideas mainly because FLAs are like snowflakes - no
    2 are alike - there's a myriad ways a
    project could be setup in terms of timelines, movie clips,
    symbols, actionscript methods - need to
    study the FLA to at least try and suggest something - so post
    it and supply the URL for someone who
    has time to download and investigate it. thats your best bet.

  • How to import SWF to stage???

    Hello everyone
    I have been trying to import a SWF file to the timeline but when I do its a white box, and even when I import to library..same thing, its a white box..Can someone help me??

    use the following, click your img1 button once, then copy and paste the trace output (if there is any) here:
    in frame 1 of the main swf that loads A1.swf put and don't replay this frame:
    function f(e:Event):void{
    img1.visible=true;
    img1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, ff);
    function ff(event:MouseEvent):void
    trace(event);
    MovieClip(my_loader.content).gotoAndPlay(2);
    img1.visible=false;
    var my_loader:Loader = new Loader();
    my_loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,f);
    my_loader.load(new URLRequest("A1.swf"));
    addChild(my_loader);
    in frame 1 of A1.swf, put:
    stop();
    trace(1);
    in frame 2 of A1.swf, put
    trace(2);
