How do I in put sound to over right a video, as I have what looks like an Optical digital audio input is S/PDIF format and uses a standard Toslink cable with a Toslink mini-plug adapter, accepting up to 24-bit stereo and 44.1-96kHz sampling rate, what knid of mic do I need?

The 'Pro' in title of the device is, in all realities, just marketing - so making an off topic statement about what 'professionals' do is not helping him... but based on your other comments, your goal was to belittle and mock the original poster.   I would bet that most owners are 'professionals' in the sense that 'they have jobs' and are not using the MacBook Pro as the primary device to generate an income... to most it is merely a very nice computer to do work on.
If you had more experience with your MacBook Pro (I assume you own at least one) or if you have ever used VMware Fusion or BootCamp for Windows or Linux distros you would have noticed that the speaker in the MacBook Pro can very easily go much louder.
And as for your very small comment about stereo - I for one enjoy watching some streaming training videos or simple documentaries on occasion and more often than not I must resort to abandoning OS X to simply hear anything over the general noises around the office or house - it is obviously an artificial restriction (read 'software not hardware') and the original poster has a very valid point and a very innocent question.

    Have you tried adjusting the "Audio Out" and the "Dolby Digital" settings in settings > audio and video? It may be worth trying several combinations of these settings, although typically it is the "Dolby Digital" setting that causes most problems for users.
    Also make sure that you have correctly mapped the input port on your sound system to the output, if you are unsure about how to do this, refer to the manual that came with your sound system.
    Have you tried playing various content sources (i.e. podcasts, music, iTunes Store video, other video etc), do you have the same problem with all types of content? If you use optical you might also check that you can see a red light at the end of your optical audio cable. Is your optical audio cable plugged straight into your sound system, or does it go through a switch or other device?

  • Get input sound level from mic

    I'm trying to find out how ( if possible ) to get the input sound level from the microphone.
    Example : if someone screams into the mic it would return that it is loud or on a scale of 1 to 10 it would be a 10; and the opposite if someone was whispering.
    Any help would be great!

    Digital audio is stored as a series of samples, where each sample is the amplitude of the sound wave being recorded. The volume of the sound is the same as the amplitude of the sound, therefore, each individual sample is simply encoded as the volume of the sound.
    So you break the mic input down into a list of samples (based on the sample size / number of channels) and keep a running average to determine the sound level.

  • Up to how many inputs for audio recording.

    just like the subject, up to how many inputs can be used for audio recordings at one time. i have four audio tracks but i could only arm 2 because i only have the choice for input 1 and 2. ive tried several things but cant seem to get any more inputs. is it possible to get more? if so can anyone help me. ive been told audio input objects but it didnt work.

    Greetings! You don't say what audio hardware you have. If you have nothing other than your standard inputs on the MacBook, then you can't have more than two inputs. If you have a multi-input audio interface then it sounds as if it's not connected properly. Check:
    Audio > Audio Hardware and Drivers
    Make sure your audio interface is selected.
    Also, click-hold on the I/O button for each track and make sure that you have selected different inputs - there should be one input listed for each physical input port on your audio interface.
    If you're still having problems, you may need to delete your preferences and run Logic Set Assistant to rebuild your system - only takes a couple of minutes and worth doing.
    Clangwork is also right about Audio MIDI Setup since Logic can only see what AMS tells it about.

  • Hearing input sound though headphones

    When I connect my tape-recorder to the sound input jack on my PB and press 'play' on the tape-recorder, I don't hear the sound on my PowerBook although the sound input indicator shows sound input. I can also record the sound via Audacity but I cannot hear the input sound while recording. I think that some time ago when I tried doing the same I was able to hear the sound. Can somebody hint me what am I doing wrong or how to set the PB so that I can hear the sound while recording? Thanks in advance

  • SB X-Fi Titanium and SPDIF Optical input: no input sound

    I'm attempting to use my SPDIF Optical input for the first time on my Windows 7 PC. Audio input works fine. No sound appears to be coming in through the optical input. Sound Properties in Control Panel shows everything is OK.
    I am using a Converter box to convert a Coax optical output of my Boss GT-6 Guitar efx unit into a Toslink cable input. Everything is plugged in correctly. So assuming that the converter box and cable are doing their job, what subtle issue should I be looking for regarding input sound on the SB card? Everything looks OK, but still no sound.
    I do get a low-level hum from my speakers when I turn on my GT-6 and it goes away when the GT-6 is powered off. At least something is being detected. I'm unclear how to proceed troubleshooting this

    I've been going through the same headaches with my extreme gamer. I wanted the quality of an optical connection and was impressed with the improved clarity and gain, but as frustrated that no 5. seemed possible on anything other then dvd's.
    A extreme GAMER card should have GAME support one would think. Then I read about the Dolby Digital Li've Pack, avalible here at the web site, For a fee of course ^&%$&(.
    It convert ALL sound from your card, even stereo if you use the CMSS-3D settings, to Dolby so any reciever can now decode them via an optical cable.
    The only issue I'm having is that with Dolby Digital Li've enabled I'm getting a few millisecond delay that is slightly throwing off the lip syncing while playing video, I can't seem to find out why, with the DDL unticked the delay is gone, but so is the 5..
    I'm not sure if it is because the DDL works in real-time and that causes the slight delay, or not. It isn't a huge problem just a annoying one.
    It seems that Creative sucks at digital, lol. Or just doesn't care very much about it.

    You probably can't because it looks like your MacBook Pro is too old to carry audio over HDMI. You will need to run a separate audio cable from the audio out port on the MacBook Pro to the audio in port on the TV.

    Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Display Devices - make a note of the hardware listed here i.e. ATI, NVidia or Intel.
    Next, connect your notebook via HDMI to your Tv.  Right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click once ( just to highlight the entry ) the HDMI Output that has the same name as your display adapter and then click the Set Default button - see if you now have audio.

    Select the field name MASSEKPO-MWSKZ. Press F8.
    Assign the value to the PO field.
    In the menu, select u201CMass maintenanceu201D->u201DEnter new field valuesu201D.
    Assign the new value and press u201CTranferu201D button.
    Press F8. Click on the u201CCarry out a Mass Changeu201D button and click on the u201CSaveu201D button (Ctrl+S)

    process like this:
    1) using transaction se61
    2) change 'document class' field -> 'General text'
    3) input Name field [ZLOGIN_SCREEN_INFO]
    4) Click Create button.
    5) and u can see the text-editor
    6) insert ur message and save.

    The Retrospect you used way back when is no longer around. The company was sold and that company produced a new version of Retrospect - Retrospect 8.x
    So, as you've been told, you would have to be running a Tiger system with an old version of Retrospect software (5.x or 6.x - you would need to know) assuming you can find the software.
    As best I can remember you cannot extract files from a Retrospect backup except using the software since Retrospect did not normally make a file by file backup rather it created an archive of the files in the backup. I'm assuming that the EMC/Retrospect people have told you that old Retrospect backups are not accessible by Retrospect 8.x?
