How to insert a bean variable into MySql using jsp

Hi, I have a problem that I have been trying to work out for ages..unsuccessfully.
My web-site takes 2 inputs off a user...does a calculation on them and returns the result to the user.
I want to then use another jsp page that will take this result and insert it into a database...
My class code for this is :
public void updateRepmax(String userName, String repmax) throws SQLException, Exception{
     if(con != null){
     try{
     PreparedStatement update;
     update = con.prepareStatement("UPDATE repmax SET Benchpress = ?, WHERE Member_Name = ?");
     update.setString(1, repmax);
     update.setString(2, userName);
     update.execute();
     } catch(SQLException sqle){
     error = "SQLException: could not update repmax";
     throw new SQLException(error);
     catch(Exception e){
     error = "An exception occured while updating repmax";
     throw new Exception(error);
     } else {
     error = "Exception: connection to database was lost";
     throw new Exception(error);
My JSP is :
<%@page import="java.sql.*, placement.*"%>
<jsp:useBean id="conn" class="placement.DBConnect" />
<jsp:useBean id="query" class="placement.DBQuery" />
<jsp:useBean id="bpcalc" class="placement.repmaxBean" />
<jsp:useBean id="userin" class="placement.User" />
<html>
<head><title>Update Repmax</title></head>
<body>
<%
conn.connect();
     String repmax = bpcalc.getRepmax();
     String userName = userin.getUserName();
query.setCon(conn.getCon());
     query.updateRepmax();
conn.disconnect();
%>
     </body>
     </html>
The variable I am tryin to insert is repmax ,in the class that does the calculation the repmax is a double so I assume that is my first problem(how can this be changed to allow it to insert?)....any help you have to offer would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks for your reply sathishkb,
I am not actually receiving any error message,
The jsp page is processed and the code seems to be correct however the table in my mysql database is not updated.. my JDBC drivers are working correctly etc.
I expect that the problem is in my JSP page but dont know what it is
I have removed that comma in my update statement
I no longer have the problem of the variable being of type touble as I altered my other code to convert the variable from double to string
jsp is now:
<%@page contentType="text/html"%>
<%@page import="java.sql.*, placement.*"%>
<jsp:useBean id="conn" class="placement.DBConnect" />
<jsp:useBean id="update" class="placement.DBQuery" />
<jsp:useBean id="bpcalc" class="placement.repmaxBean" />
<jsp:useBean id="currentuser" class="placement.currentuserBean" />
<html>
<head><title>Insert Into Repmax</title></head>
<body>
<%
String repmax = bpcalc.repmax;
String userName =currentuser.name;
conn.connect();
     update.setCon(conn.getCon());
     update.updateRepmax(repmax,Username);
conn.disconnect();
%>
     </body>
     </html>
the segment of my bean code is :
public void updateRepmax(String repmax,String userName) throws SQLException, Exception{
     if(con != null){
     try{
     PreparedStatement update;
     update = con.prepareStatement("UPDATE repmax set Benchpress = ? WHERE Member_Name= ?");
     update.setString(1,repmax);
     update.setString(2,userName);
     update.execute();
     } catch(SQLException sqle){
     error = "SQLException: could not update employer";
     throw new SQLException(error);
     catch(Exception e){
     error = "An exception occured while updating employer";
     throw new Exception(error);
     } else {
     error = "Exception: connection to database was lost";
     throw new Exception(error);
}

  • How to convert oracle 9i database to mysql using JSP?

    Dear friends,
    I want to convert oracle 9i database to mysql using JSP technology. Does there anyone who have a hint or some web links about this task? I searched the internet and found all of them are not free and no source code. In fact, what I want to do is really simple, I just want to first, reading the oracle database table structure information and then create the exactly same table in mysql, and then copying all the data in oracle database table to mysql table. But I dont know how to retrieve the oracle table structure using JDBC. And also I want to retrieve all the tables in the oracle database, so I can choose from them to convert to mysql. It seems that the structure in oracle usually have the tablespace information, I dont know if I can create database in mysql using this tablespace information. And I dont know where I can find the information about the functions in JDBC? For example, how to retrieve the table structure? Once I retrieve the table structure and create the exactly same table structure in mysql, then I can fetch all the data in oracle table to mysql table.
    Any hint will be great appreciated!
    Merry Christmas and Happy new year!

    Hi, beattris and rtg54,
    thank you very much for your great help!
    beattris, do you know if there is any such kind of tool free? I am a student and don't want to do commercial product, as you see, my work is very simple, in fact, just as you said, the most important of all is how to get the database structure from oracle schema? do you have any idea about this? or do you know any tool that is open source? so I can learn from it.
    rtg54, I just want to convert the database from oracle to mysql, after that, I can use mysql database as storage instead of expensive oracle database. the problem is that I have some data stored in oracle database and the application is built on oracle, after the convertion, I can use mysql to provide data to jsp or servlet application. I will great appreciate if you can contact with mysql about this problem because I don't know how to contact with them.
    thanks again and happy new year!

  • Problem to insert  Chinese Characters(GB3212)  into MySQL

    I met a problem to insert Chinese Characters (GB3212) into MySQL using Entity Bean (or JPA).
    For example, when a hardcoded string "{color:#ff0000}&#30005;&#22120;me&#20803;&#20214;{color}" is inserted, it is displayed as "{color:#ff0000}??me??{color}" in MySQL.
    The NamedQuery is also not working for Chinese Characters.
    The setting are as following:
    GlassFish JDBC connection pool: useUnicode=true, charecterEncoding=gb2312
    NetBeans IDE: source encoding set to GB2312;
    MySql table: the column set to CHARACTER SET gb2312;
    Any experts, please give advice
    Thanks lot

    I didn't noticed that there is a {color:#ff0000}sun-resources.xml{color} file under {color:#ff0000}<ejb project>/server resources{color}.
    This file has a pool configuration. This config just overwite the paremeter i added using Admin Console every time a client is lauched. So there are two option to fix this problem.
    1. Insert the follwowing two lines into the {color:#ff0000}sun-resources.xml{color}
    <property name="characterEncoding" value="gb2312"/>
    <property name="useUnicode" value="true"/>
    2. delete the everthing in the {color:#ff0000}sun-resources.xml, using Admin Console {color}config your own pool & DataSource
    I tried first option & it works.

  • How to insert a image file into oracle database

    hi all
    can anyone guide me how to insert a image file into oracle database now
    i have created table using
    create table imagestore(image blob);
    but when inserting i totally lost don't know what to do how to write query to insert image file

    Hi I don't have time to explain really, I did have to do this a while ago though so I will post a code snippet. This is using the commons file upload framework.
    Firstly you need a multi part form data (if you are using a web page). If you are not using a web page ignore this bit.
    out.println("<form name=\"imgFrm\" method=\"post\" enctype=\"multipart/form-data\" action=\"FileUploadServlet?thisPageAction=reloaded\" onSubmit=\"return submitForm();\"><input type=\"FILE\" name=\"imgSource\" size='60' class='smalltext' onKeyPress='return stopUserInput();' onKeyUp='stopUserInput();' onKeyDown='stopUserInput();' onMouseDown='noMouseDown(event);'>");
    out.println("   <input type='submit' name='submit' value='Submit' class='smalltext'>");
    out.println("</form>"); Import this once you have the jar file:
    import org.apache.commons.fileupload.*;Now a method I wrote to upload the file. I am not saying that this is correct, or its the best way to do this. I am just saying it works for me.
    private boolean uploadFile(HttpServletRequest request, HttpSession session) throws Exception {
            boolean result = true;
            String fileName = null;
            byte fileData[] = null;
            String fileUploadError = null;
            String imageType = "";
            String error = "";
            DiskFileUpload fb = new DiskFileUpload();
            List fileItems = fb.parseRequest(request);
            Iterator it = fileItems.iterator();
            while(it.hasNext()){
                FileItem fileItem = (FileItem)it.next();
                if (!fileItem.isFormField()) {
                    fileName = fileItem.getName();
                    fileData = fileItem.get();
                    // Get the imageType from the filename extension
                    if (fileName != null) {
                        int dotPos = fileName.indexOf('.');
                        if (dotPos >= 0 && dotPos != fileName.length()-1) {
                            imageType = fileName.substring(dotPos+1).toLowerCase();
                            if (imageType.equals("jpg")) {
                                imageType = "jpeg";
            String filePath = request.getParameter("FILE_PATH");
            session.setAttribute("filePath", filePath);
            session.setAttribute("fileData", fileData);
            session.setAttribute("fileName", fileName);
            session.setAttribute("imageType", imageType);
            return result;
         } And now finally the method to actually write the file to the database:
    private int writeImageFile(byte[] fileData, String fileName, String imageType, String mode, Integer signatureIDIn, HttpServletRequest request) throws Exception {
            //If the previous code found a file that can be uploaded then
            //save it into the database via a pstmt
            String sql = "";
            UtilDBquery udbq = getUser(request).connectToDatabase();
            Connection con = null;
            int signatureID = 0;
            PreparedStatement pstmt = null;
            try {
                udbq.setUsePreparedStatements(true);
                con = udbq.getPooledConnection();
                con.setAutoCommit(false);
                if((!mode.equals("U")) || (mode.equals("U") && signatureIDIn == 0)) {
                    sql = "SELECT SEQ_SIGNATURE_ID.nextval FROM DUAL";
                    pstmt = con.prepareStatement(sql);
                    ResultSet rs = pstmt.executeQuery();
                    while(rs.next()) {
                       signatureID = rs.getInt(1);
                    if (fileName != null && imageType != null) {
                        sql = "INSERT INTO T_SIGNATURE (SIGNATURE_ID, SIGNATURE) values (?,?)";
                        InputStream is2 = new ByteArrayInputStream(fileData);
                        pstmt = con.prepareStatement(sql);
                        pstmt.setInt(1, signatureID);
                        pstmt.setBinaryStream(2, is2, (int)(fileData.length));
                        pstmt.executeUpdate();
                        pstmt.close();
                        con.commit();
                        con = null;
                if(mode.equals("U") && signatureIDIn != 0) {
                    signatureID = signatureIDIn.intValue();
                    if (fileName != null && imageType != null) {
                        sql = "UPDATE T_SIGNATURE SET SIGNATURE = ? WHERE SIGNATURE_ID = ?";
                        InputStream is2 = new ByteArrayInputStream(fileData);
                        pstmt = con.prepareStatement(sql);
                        pstmt.setBinaryStream(1, is2, (int)(fileData.length));
                        pstmt.setInt(2, signatureID);
                        pstmt.executeUpdate();
                        pstmt.close();
                        con.commit();
                        con = null;
            } catch (Exception e) {
                con = null;
                throw new Exception(e.toString());
            return signatureID;

  • How to pass a JavaScript variable into a java method

    I would like to know how to pass a JavaScript variable into a java method with in a <% %> tag inside a JSP file like so:
    <%@ page contentType="text/html;charset=windows-1252"%>
    <html>
    <head>
    <script LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
    myValue = someDynamicValue;
    <% System.out.println(myValue)%>
    </script>
    </head>
    <body>
    </body>
    </html>
    obviously "System.out.println(myValue)" will not work because myValue is seen as a java variable and not a JavaScript variable.
    I would like to know how to let the jsp file, that I wrote in the above code, see myValue as a JavaScript variable and not a java variable so that I can pass it to a java method.
    NOTE: the java method does not have to be a println() method, it can be any method of my choice.
    NOTE: someDynamicValue is a JavaScript value that can dynamically change

    I don't believe you can. JSPs are really just elaborate templates that an engine such as Tomcat parses and generates an HTML page based on. That page is then displayed to the user. By the time you want to use some function in Javascript, the JSP has already been parsed and generated.
    Basically, Javascript and JSPs can't talk to each other. One's server-side and the other is client-side.

  • How to insert a tumbler blog into muse web site?

    Hey I was wondering if you know how to insert a tumbler blog into adobe muse? I have a tumbler account but would like to use it in adobe muse. how can I add it to my blog page in muse for desktop?

    Goto your Tumblr account and then view it when you're logged out ... the URL link should look something like this?:
    http://my-tumblr-blog.tumblr.com
    Now copy & paste that URL link and insert it into this code snippet:
    <iframe src="http://my-tumblr-blog.tumblr.com" onLoad="calcHeight();" scrolling="YES" frameborder="0" width="660" height="950" name="resize" id="resize"></iframe>
    Now copy and paste this edited snippet into the Muse page where you want your Blog ... set the correct width and height in the code (see above) to fit your page ...
    Cutomize it:
    I would suggest customizing your Blog with the built-in customize HTML section to tweak the embedded Blog page ... i.e. turn off some of the Tumblr sections like Header, Description, etc, if you don't want them ...
    Better still go over to this Tumblr Theme site and create a nice custom theme where you can do it all yourself ...
    Then after that still use the snippet code above once you have copied & pasted the new customised Tumblr HTML into you Tumblr Blog:
    http://www.totallylayouts.com/tumblr-generator/
    The art is to streamline your Blog as much as possible so you get the most screen estate shown in Muse, because as an inserted iFrame widget you do lose a bit ...
    cheers,
    Gem

    Hi Helen,
    You could read about that in the documentation which is available online.
    For a starter: BLOB. And I bet there are many examples to be found on the web.

  • How do I enter a variable into an equation?

    How do I enter a variable into an equation?

    Jacob,
    Spreadsheets don't use equations, so the usual nomenclature can be confusing.
    When you enter something into a spreadsheet cell, it is either a Literal Value (Constant), or an Expression, preceded by an equal sign, that tells the spreadsheet to display something. Every Cell Reference in the Expression is a Variable. The equal sign in this case does not signify an equality, it just signals the spreadsheet that you want it to do something, defined by the expression that follows.
    Here's an equation: A1 = B1 + C1 + 10, where B1 and C1 are variables and 10 is a constant.
    To figure out what the value of A1 is, you write an expression in cell A1. That Expression would be: =B1 + C1 + 10. The operation that is performed by the spreadsheet is that it looks at B1 and C1, adds whatever it sees there and then adds the constant 10, and displays the result in A1.
    It can get very complex. Expressions can contain Functions that catch the Time or generate a random number, or round a value, etc. Just remember that anything you see in a cell can be changed, so that content, that cell address, is a variable

    Don't know. Ask the MySQL folks. This is not a Java issue.
