Move some of the "crap" off the C drive.  Programs only install to the default OS drive.
Or upgrade the computer to a larger hard drive.

  • I did the recommended re-install to resolve the missing MSVCR80.dll file. This worked, but I am now stymied by two error messages: "Apple Mobile Device failed to start" and "Apple application support not found". How to overcome?

That worked, however I now get two error messages when I install I Tunes:
o  Apple Mobile Device failed to start.
o  Apple Application Support not found.
This were of course deleted in the recommended re-install procedure to resolve the dll file, but repeated uninstalls and installs simply bring up these two error messages with a recommendation to install I Tune again. Installing the new I Tunes version seems to be problematic per the discussion groups and has no simple solution. SHould not the Genius bar be able to resolve this at an Apple Store? Want to buy a new I Phone 5S, but this problem effectively stymies this.

  • What does this error message mean and how do I fix the problem? Service "Apple Mobile Device' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services. I'm trying to install the new version of iTunes.

When I get to the service section when I try to install the newest version of iTunes I get an error message. I'd really like to be able to connect to the Apple Store but can't figure out how to get those "sufficient privileges to start system services" and there doesn't seem to be any help on the Apple Support section of their Website - at least that I can find. Can anyone help me?
I uninstalled the older version of iTunes. Apparently there was a .dll missing. I also uninstalled Safari since iTunes apparently uses some of the same applications as iTunes. It's getting frustrating not being able to buy books or access the books I already have.
Thanks for any help you can provide. Sometimes computers mystify me.

I am having this same problem. I took Kappy advice on restarting the Apple Mobile Device Service, however that did not work. I got this message in a pop up window that came up immediately.
Windows could not start the Apple Mobil Device Service on local computer.
Error 1053  The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
I have already uninstalled itunes, all the related programs and I cannot reinstall, this Apple Mobil Device message stops the install.
    Can anyone please help?

  • Is there a Definitive Answer? Apple Mobile Device Support won't install

Firstly apologies, i have lost track of the number of threads i have read on this site, but none seem to resolve the issue. I am running Windows 7 64Bit (Professional), also have the same problem on a XP SP3 laptop... but the works laptop will allow the install, also win7 64 bit (but not alllowable software so need to uninstall)
I have mangemed to finally install Itunes and all associated software packages to 10.7.21, following months and months of hassle (last working version of itunes was down in 10.1.??)
BUT, frustratingly i still cannot get Apple mobile Device support to install. Before any one asks the obvious questions i have tried just about everything (assuming the one i havent tried is the one that works)
I have extracted the install file and ran that seperately, yes as administrator (both right click and forcing the compatibility in the file properties), both accounts on the machine, also created a new account and tried on that. Same issue as most people, failed to install and rolled back
I have tried installing whilst in compatibilty check and get a report that it is an incompatible application.
When opening Itunes itself i get a message that i need to install the 64bit version.
This is starting to get seriosly annoying in that my iphone 4 has now also decided to fail during an update to ios6... serves me right for listening to one of the genius's instore.
Anybody with any ideas please throw them this way. Next step is to format machine and start from scratch

So, after another evening of trawling the internet i found the following and decided it was worth a try
    http://randomwindowstips.wordpress.com/2009/12/08/windows-7-itunes-9-software-is -not-installed/
The following is taken straight from Aurelius, so huge HUGE thanks. (This works if you still have 10.6.3, failing that, if you know anyone that has the latest version, this is how i got this **** programme to actually work (or wait, as this will be updated shortly!!) I had at this point let everything install from Itunes installer and again had the rollback on the AMDS.
Copy the following folders from a working machine to your machine (apologies if you don't know anyone with a working copy, keep an eye on the link as it will be updated)
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
Next, type regedit into windows search and allow the programme to start. Go to the following address:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Apple Inc.\Apple Mobile Device Support]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Apple Mobile Device]
Right click and export the files. Next you need to copy them to your machine and double click them and allow to install. Restart and hopefully all is finally well (or it was on mine).
Good luck to anyone who finds this.

  • No Apple Mobile Device Support, how to get it back?

I unstalled Apple Mobile Device Support since I thought I would get it back when I downloaded the latest version of itunes. Instead an error message came up; There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact you rsupport personnel or package vendor. On viewing all programs to unstall/ delete/ or repair the Apple Mobile Device Support is not on the list. So I'm wondering how can i get Apple Mobile Device Support can be reinstalled when it's be deleted, and whether this can be done without downloading the most recent itunes and its related components. From the Control Panel I went to Programs and when I found itunes I clicked on repair to help with the Apple Mobile Device only to come across the following message, Service "Apple Mobile Device" failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services with the following options cancel, retry, and ignore. How do I get Apple Mobile Device Support back where can I download it and not have to download the latest itunes?Much help appreciated! Thanks.

I have looked at this article, and followed their instructions for uninstalling itunes and its related components. I wasn't able to delete Bonjour a related conpoment of itunes and got the following message, There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact you rsupport personnel or package vendor. So I am not able to finish the instructions. So far I've used the following website to download Apple Mobile Device Support and follow the instructions there to get it back.

  • Apple Mobile Device Support won't install, keeps rolling back..

I'm using Windows 7 64bit and i have everything updated. Since I've upgraded my iTunes to version 10.1, I can't sync my iPod Touch with it anymore.
Each time I plug my iPod in,
    - the iPod could be detected by windows but not iTunes, and I keep getting the same error message " "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64bit version of iTunes""
    - my iPod shows up as "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" in devices and printers
After searching through the internet, I've tried many fixes but none of them worked. I've tried,
    - downloading the latest iTunes and uninstalling it and reinstalling it again and again
    - uninstalling step by step and completely removed everything as guided by this website (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923)
    - extracting the AMDS MSI file from the iTunes64setup and run it separately
    - copying the registry files and the whole Apple Mobile Device Support folder from a Vista machine as recommended in some websites
    - creating a new user account with admin rights and reinstalling iTunes again after completely removing everything
I've read a post (http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2531860) in which the user encounters a similar problem as well, and apparently the user solved this problem by replacing the files in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\netaapl64.infamd64_neutral26aa9fb28983e9b5
    C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\usbaapl64.infamd64_neutral36363f69e6e22c1b
with files he had extracted from the CAB files within the AMDS MSI installer from the iTunes64Setup download.
But the problem is, whenever I try to extract the netaap164 and usbaap164 files from the AMDS MSI installer, using WinRAR, it says that the archive is corrupted and thus I won't be able to extract these files out.
Can anyone give me any suggestions or teach me what to do? I'm really stucked and lost now. Thanks in advance. =)

After a couple days searching the internet for a solution I pieced togetherwhat my problem was from several forums and fixed it; maybe my solution/problemis similar to all of yours. (NOTE: I’m running Windows XP Professional, 32-bit,with Service Pack 3 – so you’ll have to translate my issue into your Windows 7format because I have no idea how to operate things is that version of Windows.)
I traced the error to the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver under"Universal Serial Bus Controllers" as others have too (everything inthe iTunes installation would install perfectly well except for Apple MobileDevice Support). However, my problem wasn't with the driver itself -- I had amissing .dll file on my computer for the Hardware Update Wizard (whenever Iwould 'right click’ any USB driver and select "Update", HardwareUpdate Wizard would not open; nothing would happen).
So, I went searching for this problem next, and I found this website: http://kf.livejournal.com/208963.html?view=2699587#t2699587
The page suggests that the problem is a missing .dll file called “newdev.dll”that should be located in “C:\WINDOWS\system32\” (again, I don’t know theequivalent folder for Windows 7, so someone else will need to find out where “newdev.dll”belongs) – I did a search of the .dll file on my computer and found it missing. However, I found another copy of it on my computer using “Seach Everything” (foundhere: http://download.cnet.com/Everything/3000-2379_4-10890746.html)– but, you can also use the Windows Search tool. There were copies located in “C:\Windows\system32\dllcache”and “C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386”. (I would suggest searching for itrather than locating it manually in Explorer in case its in a hidden folder.)
I copied one of the preexisting files of “newdev.dll” and pasted it into “C:\WINDOWS\system32\”.Then I tried re-installing Apple Mobile Device Support and it worked (norolling back installation). When I plugged my iPhone back into my USB “AppleMobile Device USB Driver” reappeared under “Universal Serial Bus controllers”in “Computer Management” – all I had to do was “Enable” it again and I hadaccess to my iPhone in iTunes again.
Also, I had copied a preexisting file of AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi to mydesktop prior to uninstalling everything, so when I tried to reinstall iTunesand Apple Mobile Device Support failed to install all I had to do later when Ifound the solution was reinstall AMDS. If you do not have a copy of “AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi”try completely uninstalling everything (like so many other forums suggest, asdoes Apple, here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925),and reinstall iTunes with the Hardware Update Wizard .dll file replaced. (I can’tsay if this entire reinstallation will work since I only had to install AMDS.)
Hope my problem was your problem as well.

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • How do I install "Apple Mobile Device", how do I install "Apple Mobile Device"

I am trying to move my iPod library (all CD's I have downloaded to iPod) to my iphone but it is telling me "iphone cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device is not installed"  yet there are no instructions on how to do that.  No icon appears when I plug my iphone into the computer.  I have an Itunes account already but have never purchased anything ......What gives here?

You need to uninstall iTunes and all its components then reinstall in the order shown in the article below:

  • How can I install Apple Mobile Device Manager by itself

I have been having an issue with my new iPod touch where iTunes does not see the iPod and tells me it is missing some software. I know for a fact that the apple mobile device manager should be installing with the iTunes 7.5 download, but for some reason it is not installing on my machine. I used WinRAR to split apart the 7.5 installer file and have the Apple Mobile Device Support 1.1.2.23 file saved on my desktop. The problem now is that I can't figure out how to install the file.
The file type is a .MSI. I've done some searching and not found anything I could understand that would help me to install this file on my pc. Any suggestions?

i was having this problem with my iphone.......1st go into the control panel and then to uninstall programs and uninstall anything apple. once everything apple is uninstalled. go to www.apple.com and install the latest itunes. after the latest itunes is installed this should work. it worked just fine for my iphone. ps i had my iphone connected to my computer during the whole process.

  • Why does AMDS (apple mobile device support) not install?

I run iTunes on a new (3 months old) Windows 7 PC using version 10.6 (64-bit) of iTunes.  I have been using iTunes for many years (or various machines) without any problems.  Recently iTunes stopped working correctly.... I got numerous error messages when loading the software, and could not sync any of my devices.  I went through every tutorial/help/troubleshooting I could find and nothing worked.  I had to restort to the "last resort" option of completely removing iTunes (which I did by carefully following all of the steps in the Apple Support) and reinstall iTunes.  After reinstalling and pluggin my iPhone or iPod Touch I get a message saying, "This iPhone/iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed.  Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes."
Again, I went through every tutorial/help/support/troubleshooting option and discovered that AMDS (apple mobile device support) is missing.  None of the support articles addresses this issue (only how to turn it on, locate files on your computer, etc.) but I tried them all anyway.  Nothing worked.  I removed an reinstalled iTunes 3 more times.  No change.  AMDS is still not there.  It does not even exist on my system anywhere.  It doesn't seem to be downloading at all.  I contacted customer support and was just given links to all of the troubleshooting articles I had already tried.
I have spent many hours on this and I'm getting no where.  Please help!

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)
