How to install iPhoto on an xServe

The iLife installer refuses to install on an xServe. Anyone know of a workaround?

As you found out, iLife is meant for personal computers, not an Xserve, therefor why it refuses to install.
You can find a lengthy discussion at MacSlash and other places on the web by doing a google search for "How to Install iPhoto on an xServe"
We cannot tell you how to do this on these Apple discussions.

Download it from the App Store as Matt suggested. You may have to move the current version to the Trash Bin (don't delete yet), go to the App Store and look for iPhoto 9.6 under purchases. It will be free.
What iPhoto version did you have prior to the Yosemite upgrade? If it was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll also have to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 on your library before opening it with iPhoto 9.6.

I have a late 2010 Macbook Air that I was recently given from a friend
I didn't do any reformatting of the hard drive as there wasn't much on it, but I noticed that iPhoto and iMovie are missing (it's not under applications). I'm wondering whether it was included in the first place? And if so, how do I reinstall them if I don't have any disks from the original owner? It's running OS X Mountain Lion Version 10.8.2, so I'm not sure if the previous owner upgrading the software after original purchase caused an issue that deleted it them either.
Please help!
Additional note: I realize that the two applications are available in the app store, but I really have no desire to spend $30 on them

The only way to install iPhoto is from the original source or a purchased upgrade - the seller of the machine should have included the restore disks with it or provided you with the set up Apple ID so you can log in under it to download it from the app Store
You can contact Apple support and see if they can assist - they may be able to replace the restore disk are a reasonable cost

When i got it i noticed it didnt have iphoto, so i went to the app store and tried to install it, but when i do it says, "iPhoto can’t be installed on “Macbook HD” because Mac OS X version 10.9 or later is required." If this is the case, is there still a way i can get iphoto?

If it originally shipped with 10.6.8 or earlier, install iPhoto from the computer's original disks. If you don't have those, ask the seller for them or phone AppleCare and order replacements.
If it originally shipped with 10.7 or newer, upgrade the computer to Mac OS X 10.9. If you don't want to upgrade it, go to the Mac App Store main page, choose Support under Quick Links, contact Apple, and see what they say.

How to install iPhoto an DVD only from my iLife 09 disk

Following hard drive replacement I now have Snow Leopard. I tried to install iphoto and DVD only from iLife 09 disk but could not find a way to install them only.
The full bundle will use all the free disk space I have which is 4 gbs. Following install of SnowLeopard from new disk iphoto and DVD did not install.

You can do what you want
BUT
you need a minimum of 10 GB of free space for normal operations so you need to find a way to reduce disk usage - 4 GB is not enough and will cause slow operation and possible damage to systems or data
You seriously need to free up disk space - moving your iPhoto library to an external drive may be the answer -
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

What happens when you try to download iPhoto 9.6 from the App Store? If you're having problems with the App Store you might try this:
1 - enable the Debug menu in App Store:
open the Terminal application.
copy the command below and paste into the Terminal window:
defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true
followed by Enter.
launch App Store, login with your Apple ID.
2 - select the Debug ➙ Reset Application option:
3 - try again.

?? Why would it not be? if you log in under the Apple ID you used to set up your new computer (and accept the application if needed) you should be able to download and install it. why can't you?

i bought a new mac pro and the first use and operate in the apple store in the UK london i used and apple ID of my friend because i didnt have one, and installed few appes and then i got my new apple ID and i tried to update app called Iphoto and i couldnt so i logged in to the other account and it didnt work,
so i erased Iphoto and tried to install it from my new account and i cant install it, it sais that i already have it in the purchases but i cant find anything and i went to the apple store and they didnt know how to do it, so the only option now is to buy it..
is there any way to do it without to buy ???

ill explain the story im from israel and my account is israeli so i installed the iphoto when we purchased the Mac and then i wanted to update but i couldnt so i loggen in as in her account(my girlfriend UK account) and i got a notification that this App iphoto is purchased by other account and then i log into the other account and try to download and i get another notification says you already purchased and i have it on purchases, and i dont have it or see it at all....

How to install Ubuntu Server on Xserve 1.1?

I've tried to launch Boot Camp assistant, but it says that I have to update boot ROM firmware, so I've installed all avilable updates, but that error message still comes up. I've checked that I have the latest update for my firmware, so I have no idea what the problem is!
If you know how I can fix this issue or if there is any other ways to install ubuntu without using Boot Camp, please HELP ME. I realy need your help.

Xserve EFI firmware doesn't have a CSM that other Mac models have. A CSM presents a BIOS to OS's that require it. So you need to figure out how to do an EFI only installation of Ubuntu. A big gotcha is that I'm betting this Xserve has 32-bit EFI, and most linux distributions only support 64-bit architectures including the EFI. There is a way to compile an EFI supporting bootloader in 32-bit, and then have the rest of the OS in either 32-bit or 64-bit architectures. But it's unusual to find 32-bit EFI bootloaders precompiled.
I'd also suggest newer kernels as they should have better support, but this is rare hardware so decent chance of bugs that no one has encountered. I'd definitely look through dmesg once you get it booting, and make sure there are no major errors (warnings are usually benign).

Can't figure out how to install ARD on Headless Xserve G5 running 10.4.4

Ok, I'm getting really frustrated not being able to figure this out. I have a new Xserve G5 running 10.4.4 I have no services currently rinning on it. I have all the sever administration apps installed (also 10.4.4) But my first order of business is to install some other software on the server.
I bought Apple Remote Desktop 2.2 Unlimited and installed the administer stuff on my powerbook.
But When i came to seting up the sever for ARD im baffled. Most documentation refers to setting up ARD on the server though the aever admin app. But I can't find any reference to ard in server admin.
What am I missing ?

Click on the item in the Finder's sidebar named Pictures and drag the iPhoto library inside to the external drive. This will create a backup, not a working library; if you need to do that, click here and follow the instructions.

If you purchased iLife on a disc or your Mac came with DVDs, insert the Applications DVD or Mac OS X Install Disc 2 and install iPhoto performing a custom install. Then, open  > Software Update, and install the latest version.
If you purchased iPhoto in the Mac App Store, the most recent version isn't compatible with your Mac OS X version, so you will have to upgrade OS X if you want to install iPhoto from the App Store

Re-installing Iphoto 4.0

I have a first edition Imac with the flat screen running osx10.3.9 and have 768 ram. I purchased Ilife 06. Iphoto won't install. It gets down to updating the library and crashes just before completing the install. I have been on the Iphoto 6.0 discussion forum and was not able to get it installed. The concensus was something is corrupt in my library. I was trying to re-install Iphoto 4 so I could at least view the current library (approx. 20,000 photo's on an external hard drive). When I try to install Iphoto 4, I get the message that it can't install because Iphoto, Idvd, Itunes, or garageband is running. They are not running. Everything else on Ilife o6 installed OK. So I can't use Iphoto 6 or revert back to Iphoto 4. Any Idea's on how to install Iphoto 4 or find out what is wrong with my library?

I tried your suggestion and then tried to install Iphoto 4 and no change. It says iphoto,idvd,garageband,idvd are open. They are not.
I am a little afraid to rebuild Iphoto as I have no real way to back up the 20,000 photo's (62 gb) I don't have that much room on my either of my hard drives and It might take days to back up on a dvd or cd.
Do you think Norton or Disk warrior etc. would find the problem on Iphoto Library?
