  • Retrieving an ArrayList object in a JSP page and loop it

    i have these statements in the java servlet class:

    i would very much like to know how i can retrieve this object in a JSP page and iterate through this ArrayList using JSTL. I know i will need to use the <c:forEach> tag but i don't know what i should include in the body of this tag.

  • How do i use Connection pool in JSP pages

    Hey everyone,
    I am using a connection pool in my web application. I am using DbConnectionBroker from Javaexchange.com. It has a class that creates a connection pool available for the servlets. I am trying to figure out that how to use connection pool within the JSP pages if I want to connect to the database. In the servlets i am using DBConnectionBroker pool = (DbConnectionBroker) getServletContext().getAttribute("dbPool") to get database connection. How Can i use this in JSP page to get a db connection.
    Thanks

    If the reference to the connection pool is already stored as an ServletContex attribute, try:
    <jsp:useBean id="dbPool" scope="application" class="com.javaexchange.dbConnectionBroker" />
    <%
    Connection con = dbPool.getConnection();

  • Creating a File object in a JSP page

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a File object in my JSP page by passing it a relative path. The jsp page is in 'website/testfolder/index.jsp' and the File is in 'website/photos/1.jpg'. In my jsp page i do the following:
    <% File f = new File("../photos/1.jpg");
    boolean test = f.isFile(); %>
    The value returned is false. I am trying to figure out why it can't locate the file.
    Thanks

    You have to use absolute paths. You can get the absolute path for the given relative path by ServletContext#getRealPath().

  • Using Java Objects in my JSP page... objects are in a different directory

    Hi,
    I would like to call and use an object from a JSP page. The java object is in one directory, the jsp is in another. When I call my object, I get a JSP error that says it can't find the object and lists the directory name as part of the file.
    For example, here are my two files:
    /java/MyObject.class
    /web/page.jsp
    When I make the call to new MyObject(), I get an error message saying _web.MyObject cannot be found.  Any ideas on this?
    Thanks!

    Okay, I figured it out. In case anyone else needs it, here is what I needed to do.
    1) I created my object in a package. The JSP page was looking for the object in _dir directory because a package wasn't specified.  I created a subdirectory in one of the directories in my classpath and named it the same thing that the package was named.
    2) Import the package
    3) Make sure all methods in the classes are public, since only public methods can be accessed from outside the package.
    Thanks for the help, it got me going in the right direction.

  • How to carry an object from one JSP to another JSP?

    How can I carry an object from one JSP to another JSP?
    I have a servlet where I am setting an object in request as an attribute and then forwarding to PageA.jsp.
    MyDTO myDTO = new MyDTO();
    request.setAttribute("MyDTO", myDTO);
    RequestDispatcher rd = getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("/PageA.jsp");
    rd.forward(request, response);
    I can get MyDTO object in PageA.jsp:
    MyDTO myDTO = (MyDTO) request.getAttribute("MyDTO");
    Now PageA.jsp has a form named form_pageA which submits to PageB.jsp. How can I make sure that myDTO object is available in PageB.jsp? I would like to not store it in session.

  • How to instantiate a .class from a JSP?

    Hi,
    probably it's a simple problem, byt I'm new in JSP and I couldn't work it out.
    I'm converting a SSJS Netscape Application to JSP. My needing is to write a Java .class containing only static methods, to call them from the JSP pages.
    For trying, I wrote a simple class that I call from a JSP page, but I get this error:
    Error: 500
    Location: /JSP24H/cap01/Simple2.jsp
    Internal Servlet Error:
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for
    JSPC:\tomcat\work\localhost_8080%2FJSP24H\_0002fcap_00030_00031_0002fSimple_00032_0002ejspSimple2_jsp_0.java:80:
    Incompatible type for =. Can't convert void to java.lang.String.
    v = GenFunction.messaggio();
    ^
    This is the JSP instantiating the Java class:
    <HTML>
    <HEAD><TITLE>A Simple JSP</TITLE></HEAD>
    <BODY>
    <FONT COLOR="blue" FACE="Trebuchet">
    <CENTER>
    <%@ page import = "GenFunction" %>
    <% out.println("My name is Charly !" + "<br>"); %>
    <%
    String v = " ";
    v = GenFunction.messaggio();
    out.println( v );
    %>
    </CENTER>
    </FONT>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>
    And this is the class instantiated from JSP:
    public class GenFunction {
    public static void main (String args[]) {
    public static String messaggio() {
    String a;
    a = " Hello world !";
    return a;
    In order to be sure about what I'm doing, I opened a DOS window and I called the class within the following:
    public class call_Class {
    public static void main (String args[])
    String v;
    GenFunction x = new GenFunction();
    v = x.messaggio();
    System.out.println(v);
    When I instantiate the class from DOS it's all right, why not from JSP. It seems to be returning a void value (I tried with casting too but without success).
    Thanks !

    Do you have multiple versions of classes in the server CLASSPATH somehwhere? If you have changed the class, and not bounced the server, try bouncing the server(may be using cached class)

    like this :
    session.setAttribute("UserBean",userBean);
    the way i get the session bean is only
    session.getAttribute("UserBean");
    Does have the other way to get the Session bean during the JSP
    if i dont want to use this kind of way,
    what else i can do for?
    may i know the solution with detailed
    and please attach the solution of code to me if you know...
    thanks...

    Hi,
    I am not clear with ur query..
    What I understood from ur query is that, u are trying to put the session ejb in the HttpSession Object for some use ahead in future?
    If this is the case, then I think are approach is not correct.
    StatefulSession beans are meant for this purpose, i.e they will be maintaining the client session. So use the same using the JndiLookup of the HomeInterface and the getting the Home reference and calling the businessmethods

  • How to separate search results onto different jsp pages?

    Hi,
    I'm using struts framework and I'm a newbie to this technology as well as JSP.
    Let's say, this is an online shop portal and a user has decided to search by category for the products he wants. After submitting the search string, the servlet will return a collection of product value objects to the searchResult.jsp.
    Since this collection may contain alot of products, I will have to allow the user to choose to view the search results by 5, 10, 20 products etc. Now, how do i divide the collection? Do i have to code this function in the action servlet or at the jsp pages? And how do i code them?

    I had a similar problem which I resolved by:
    1) load results into a ArrayList
    2) Have a ValueListHandler with getNextElements(int) & getPreviousElements(int) - see J2EE patterns book for code egs
    3) Then I put logic in display jsp along lines of if ->, call ValueListHandler.getNextElements(10), else call ValueListHandler.getPreviousElements(10)
    Good luck

  • How to call a report from a jsp page

    Hi
    1) Can anyone please tell me how can i view Discoverer report from a jsp page instead of opening it directly thru plus/viewer.
    2) Please clarify do i need to install Infrastructure and OID for it.
    Please advice.
    Thanks

    You need the AS infrastructure if you want to use connections. If you do not intend using connections, you do not require the infrastructure.
    Note that you cannot pass in passwords in the URL any longer. You do not need to pass passwords if you pass in a Discoverer connection id (but then again - if you don't use connections, then you do need to still pass in the connection information - username, password, database, language, EUL)
    I have a post on my blog that describes how to pass a password using an HTML Form submit - http://oraclebi.blogspot.com/2005/08/passing-password-to-viewer.html

    Hi,
    so what source address of js file i have to give in jsp page.....in your case you can use below include command
