Retrieving an ArrayList object in a JSP page and loop it

i have these statements in the java servlet class:
request.setAttribute("searchresults",searchResults);
request.getRequestDispatcher("/searchStaff.jsp").forward(request, response);
return;the searchResults is the ArrayList object.
i would very much like to know how i can retrieve this object in a JSP page and iterate through this ArrayList using JSTL. I know i will need to use the <c:forEach> tag but i don't know what i should include in the body of this tag.
thanks a lot~~~~~

<c:forEach var="columnName" items="${requestScope.searchResults}">

  • How to retrieve the parameter names from a JSP page ? Urgent Please

    Hello,
    Can anybody tell me how to retrieve the parameter names from the JSP
    page. (without using getParameterNames() method.)
    The problem with the getParameterNames() method is I get the Jumbled output.
    I need it very badly
    With regards

    Dear duffymo,
    My primary intention is to convert the JSP form information into a XML file.
    If I do not get the Parameter names in the correct order how can I maintain
    tag order in XML file.
    For ex: (JSP PAGE VIEW)
    Name--
    FirstName
    MiddleName
    LastName
    Address--
    Street1
    Street2
    City
    Country
    &so on
    (XML File to be generated)
    <Name>
    <FirstName>Value</FirstName>
    </Name>
    <Address>
    <street1>value</street1>
    </Address>
    & so on
    If I use getParameterNames() to get all the parameter names(Which form the tag names in the XML file ) the Enumeration object it returns will not be in the same order as the text fields in JSP.From this I can not construct a meaningful XML file.
    order means: Order of entry on the page, from top to bottom
    That's it
    Waiting for your responses

  • Creating a File object in a JSP page

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a File object in my JSP page by passing it a relative path. The jsp page is in 'website/testfolder/index.jsp' and the File is in 'website/photos/1.jpg'. In my jsp page i do the following:
    <% File f = new File("../photos/1.jpg");
    boolean test = f.isFile(); %>
    The value returned is false. I am trying to figure out why it can't locate the file.
    Thanks

    You have to use absolute paths. You can get the absolute path for the given relative path by ServletContext#getRealPath().

  • Using Java Objects in my JSP page... objects are in a different directory

    Hi,
    I would like to call and use an object from a JSP page. The java object is in one directory, the jsp is in another. When I call my object, I get a JSP error that says it can't find the object and lists the directory name as part of the file.
    For example, here are my two files:
    /java/MyObject.class
    /web/page.jsp
    When I make the call to new MyObject(), I get an error message saying _web.MyObject cannot be found.  Any ideas on this?
    Thanks!

    Okay, I figured it out. In case anyone else needs it, here is what I needed to do.
    1) I created my object in a package. The JSP page was looking for the object in _dir directory because a package wasn't specified.  I created a subdirectory in one of the directories in my classpath and named it the same thing that the package was named.
    2) Import the package
    3) Make sure all methods in the classes are public, since only public methods can be accessed from outside the package.
    Thanks for the help, it got me going in the right direction.

  • The content type for office excel 2007 in jsp page and the mime-type in  we

    Hi,
    In my system MS Office 2007 is installed. I am trying to generating excel sheets from JSP page by setting the content type "application/vnd.ms-excel" in jsp page and as well as in web.xml file. I am getting the below message
    The file you are trying to open, 'xxxxxxxx.xls', is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?
    Then finally the excel file is opening and displaying properly. If in my system MS Office 2003 is installed , then the above message is not coming.
    I have changed the content type according to Excel 2007 <%@ page contentType= "application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet" %> and in web.xml file the mime type to
    <mime-mapping>
    <extension>xlsx</extension>
    <mime-type>application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet</mime-type>
    </mime-mapping>
    even the content type is changed according to office excel 2007 , i am getting the same above message.
    My client is asking not to display the above message. So how to prevent that message ?
    It's very great if any body reply me as soon as possible.

    Hi Akash,
    I am not using the POI. I am generating the excel sheet using the below code.

  • How can I stop the execution on a JSP page and start it again

    Hi
    I am making a program that simulates how to manage transactions when accessing a database by using locks. I have run into a problem and I hope someone has the time to help me.
    When a user does an update the transaction commits and releases its locks when the program executes
    <%stmt.executeUpdate("commit!"); %>
    I need to put a break in to stop the program executing this statement, to illustrate the lock is set correctly.
    I have tried to put in an alert box but this does not prevent the rest of the java code being executed.
    I have tried to use prompt boxes, JavaScript functions, but these functions cannot have any java code in them.
    I have tried using the java.swing JOptionPane boxes but this didn?t work either
    I have tried to get input from the user but I don?t know how to retrieve this data on the same page. (As far as I know you have to use submit and even refresh the page or retrieve it on the next page).
    Does anyone know how I can stop the execution on a JSP page and start it again (on same page)
    Mette

    I already have another client (Tomcat jsp application) running and it throws a SQLException correctly when I dont put in a commit=true statement and don't close the database connection.
    But the problem is how to get the code above to stop to illustrate I have set this lock.
    I have tried to use the JOptionPane but because my program is running in a web browser I cannot use the JOptionPane dialog box.
    I have tired using an alert box but it executes the commit statement before the alert box is dispayed. So this does not work
    While (i < 2)
    if( i==1)
    %>alert(The transactions commits when you press Ok); <% //what it to stop execution here
    else
    stmt.executeUpdate(commit);
    I am not using threads so I cannot use the sleep function.
    I am using mysql and have already configured it to detect deadlocks and how long to wait for locks.
    Thanks for your help

  • Calling Java code inside JSP page and sending toString on object to Servlet

    Hi.
    I am trying to setup a way to make testing my application easier. Using a web-based method will work best. Here is what I am trying to accomplish:
    - Have a web page that will prompt the user to enter data, fill in text fields, make choices, etc. When done, they press the Submit button. I don't need to keep info between sessions. Just open browser, execute, view results, close browser, repeat.
    - I then want to take this data and use some Java Classes I have to create a Java object.
    - I then want to send the toString() results of this Java object to a known Java servlet. The result of the servlet's actions should be displayed as a response on the screen.
    This is what I currently have (Ignore the
    's - I don't know why they are showing up - its not important):
    Web page:
    <html>
    <head><title>TestGroup</title></head>
    <body>
    <form name=f method=post action=http://localhost:100/Servlet>
    Name: <br>
    Group: <input name=group type=text><br>
    <br>
    <input type=submit value=Submit>
    <input type=reset value=Reset>
    </form>
    </body>
    </html>The Java code in the JSP (where to put it?):
    <%
    Group g = new Group();
    g.setGroupName(request.getParameter("group"));
    String output = g.toString(); // I want this to go to the Servlet.
    %>But, now I am stuck as to how to piece these together. I have some JSP experience, but not quite like this.
    As I said, when the user presses the Submit button, I want to perform the Java code above, and have the results of the toString method sent to the Servlet, plus clear all other parameters (so they are not sent to the servlet).
    Does anyone have any advice/comments? I am open to alternative designs too, this is just the simplest one I could think of. If another JSP page is needed, that's fine too.
    Thanks.

  • Problems with JSP pages and BC objects

    Hi all. I have a new problem. I'm creating an application based on a database, using BC and JSP pages. I created entity objects from tables and then view objects. I put these view objects in an Application Module. When I test my view objects from This Application Module all works, but when I create a new JSP, I can't drag and drop any view objects in it. I'm using Jdev 10.1.2.
    Is there any one who can help me?
    Thank you,
    Caterina.

    I'm using the MVC pattern, so I have a Model directory that contains my BC, and a ViewController directory in which I want to create JSP pages with a Struts page flow.

  • How to test the JSP pages and sevlets using JUnit. ?

    How to test the JSP pages using JUnit. How to configure what are all the steps to execute the JUnit test cases.

    Hi xiepei,
    since you are using modbus, a simple error checking is implicit in the protocol and is the comparison between returned checksum and the calculated one on the received message: checksum errors, if any, are an effect of communications errors (you should have at least 2 bits changed and on particular patterns to have the checksum be calculated correctly!). You won't be able to calculate BER on them, but you can calculate PER (Packet Error Rate).
    Another flag for communication errors, on the other direction, is to intercept error messages from the device: if it fully implements modbus protocol, it should return some warning in case of error (I seem to remember that in some cases it returns the reveived message with some error bits added: please check in modbus documentation).
    Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

  • Capturing the output of a jsp page and save that output in a WORD .doc file

    Hi,
    This is Naveen. I got stuck up with a problem/doubt. URGENT ! URGENT !
    My doubt is how to capture the output of a jsp page(the content is dynamic generated) and save that output to a MS-Word doc file.
    I know that therez an option of using Servlets Filters, but this concept is supported by Servlet 2.3 spec. and not earlier. And we are working on previous spec. and our web-servers also supports the prev. version and not the 2.3 version.
    If incase, therez a third-party utility for free usage, suggestions are appreciated.
    Hope most of them came across this kind of functional requirement. If anyone of them succeeded in this, please express ur bitter experience if any, faced during the coding.
    Thanks in Advance for help.
    Naveen

    You can set the MIME content type as .doc and try to open the Page.
    res.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel"); to generate the Page output as Excel
    res.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-word"); to generate the Page output as MS Word doc
    Hope this helps..

I've created a very small web application to simplify testing the applet, and all works well in it. But when I try to embed the applet in my real web application (exactly the same way) it fails to init, firefox hangs, and in java console I get;

    Any idea what that means?
    Thanks in advance

  • How the hell does a person share session data between JSP page and a Servle

    1. How the hell does one share session data between a servlet and a JSP page without using a bean but rather using a normal string variable.
    2. When using session scope to access a bean the application complains about not finding the bean on the specified scope, however when I use an application scope the save the same bean, the application does find it.
    Please help!!!!!!!
    SERVLET:
    HttpSession session = request.getSession(true);
    ServletContext servletContext = session.getServletContext();
    customerID = result.getString("CustomerID");
    userName = result.getString("UserName");
    session.setAttribute("UserName",userName);
    session.setAttribute("CustomerID",customerID);
    System.out.println("Customer UserName = " + session.getAttribute("UserName"));
    response.sendRedirect("/economics/subscriptions/default.jsp");
    JSP PAGE:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <jsp:root xmlns:jsp=http://java.sun.com/JSP/Page mlns:c="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" xmlns:sql="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/sql" version="2.0">
    <jsp:directive.page isThreadSafe="true" session="true" contentType="text/xml"/><jsp:output omit-xml-declaration="false"/><jsp:scriptlet>response.addHeader("x-xslt-nocache", "true");</jsp:scriptlet><pml>
    <page type="web" search="y">
         <pageName>Commercial Banking</pageName>
         <jsp:directive.include file="/economics/header.inc"/>
         <jsp:directive.include file="/login.inc"/>
         <jsp:directive.include file="/economics/leftMenu.inc"/>
         <!--<jsp:useBean id="UserName" type="java.lang.String" scope="session" />-->
         <content>
         <searchSum>Commercial - Main Content</searchSum>
         Value = <c:out value="${request.session.getAttribute("UserName")}"/>
         </content>
         <jsp:directive.include file="/economics/rightNav.inc"/>
         <jsp:directive.include file="/footer.inc"/>
    </page></pml></jsp:root>

    For a start, just "session" instead of "request.session" would work better. But why did you post this here and not in the JSP forum? Doesn't seem to have anything to do with Java programming.

  • Single signon between JSP page and Net.Data page

    I am trying to setup a single signon between a JSP page hosted on a tomcat server, and a Net.Data page hosted on an IBM HTTP server. Both of these servers are running on an AS400. The JSP page (www.jsppage.com/menu) contains a link to the Net.Data page (www.netData.com/page2). In order to access www.jsppage.com/menu the user needs to login. Once this happens I want them to be able to go back and forth between the two pages without having to log in when they switch servers. Page navigation is handled through myServlet.java so that when a user clicks on a link the request is forwarded on to myServlet.java where the servlet determines where to redirect the user to. The servlet uses
    RequestDispatcher requestDispatcher = getServletContex().getRequestDispatcher(url);
    requestDispatcher.forward(request, response);
    to forward the user to the correct page. This works fine for the JSP pages but when I forward to www.netData.com/page2 I get an error telling me the address doesn't start with a /. I also need to send the user name and password for the net.data pages to avoid the second login window to popup.
    I understand that the requestDsipatcher.forward() method directs the browser to a page that is relative to the current root directory. If I try to use response.sendRedirect(url) I get sent to the right page but the signon window pops up. I would appreciate any help.

    The servers keep track of the user by storing a cookie on the clients computer. The cookie is only valid for the domain that created it.
    So, to make this work you need to send the username and password as part of the sendRedirect. the forward() method won't work.
    What you could do is create some code on the .net machine that accepts username, password and target URL as input. Once it receives those parameters it should perform the .net login procedure and redirect to the correct page.
    In your servlet you should pass those parameters on to the .net machine and the user should get the correct page without ever seeing any login windows.
    Make sure to use https if you decide to follow this scheme since http will transmit the username/password in cleartext.
