How to know the no. of bytes in a String Control Function?

Hi,
I would like to know the no. of bytes for a certain String Control Data.
For instance, if i have a String Length Function, on the left is a String Control and on the right is a Length Indicator.
If i will type coordinates, i.e. 9.25,4.25 on the String Control it will show 9 on the Length Indicator. I think 9 do not mean 9 bytes but
only a length. Is there any function in LV that will tell me the total bytes of the data on the string control?
Appreciate for any advise.
Thanks a lot.

Thanks tst for your kind reply.
Here is what i am trying to find/goal.
I will be using wireless receiver for my system. The wireless receiver have some signal strength ranges; 95dbm @ 1Mbps (mega bit per sec), 90dbm @ 11Mbps, 82 dbm @ 24 Mbps and 75dbm @ 54 Mbps. Ofcourse i prefer to have lower data transfer rate so that my signal strength is best.
I will be sending coordinate data/s via wireless communication using string controls. But i do not know how big/heavy is my coordinate data
If i can know how many bytes or mega bytes the data i want to send then i will be able to transfer it to bits or mega bits(8 bits = 1 byte) thus i will know which setting i can use for the wireless receiver. And if the data is too big then i have a basis to redesign my data transfer to suite a better signal strength.
Thanks for your help.

  • How to know the size in bytes of a directory?

I would like to know if there's a class or a function which allows to know the size of all files in a directory?

You have to create a File object for your directory, then list all files (using the list() method) and create a File object for each item returned. Then ask each File object for it's size and add them up.

  • When and How to get the Text.ScrollPos value of a String control when scroll bar position changed

    Hi,
I'm working on a feature triggered by scroll bar position of a string control changed.
But I could not find a good way to catch the scroll bar position changed event,
the scroll bar is controlled manually by mouse down → mouse move → mouse up, I want the get the Text.ScrollPos value when user mouse up, and compare with the maximum value.
But the problem is,  mouse up on the scroll bar could not trigger String: Mouse up event!
So I have to get the Text.ScrollPos continuously in the background in Timeout event, but I think it’s not efficient.
Do you have any better idea on when to get the correct destination value of Text.ScrollPos?
I plan to store the value of Text.ScrollPos in the bottom(maximum value) in a shift register, then compare the current Text.ScrollPos value with the max one.
If it comes close to the bottom(90%~100% of the maximum value), then the close to bottom LED will turn on.

    Hello Cecilia,
I don't think there is any build-in event for this.
One solution would be to create your own user event at the initialisation of you main and launch a thread which is going to be pulling the value of your scrollbar position:
Then you can build your main as if they were a scrollbar move event.
And dont forget to close the thread and destroy the event at the end.
    Hope it helps.

  • How to know the length of a Byte array?

how to know the length a byte array if it is an argument of the method, e.g.
public byte[] hash(byte[] data) throws Exception
I wanna store the length of data into a integer in the method of hash, but no idea how to get it
    THanks!

    to conclude:
I am a newbie, I wanna know , those "System"
methods as well. What exactly does that have to do with your original question?
    or instance:
    System.arrowcopy() , where can I find the
definition also? You probably meant System.arraycopy. The documentation is called JavaDoc and for Java 1.5 (a.k.a. 5.0) it can be found here: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/index.html
If you've not yet found the API documentation, then I'm pretty sure you should start with some tutorials, they probably point to all the interesting documentation as well.

    Hi Patricia,
is it working for restricted key figure and calculated key figure ??
Note Number Fisc Period Opening Days
    1 1 2
    2 1 3
    3 1 0
because I have other restriction, so I create two restricted key figure..
RK1  with restriction :  Total Number of Note,
RK2  with restriction :  Total Opening Days ,
then I Created a calculated key figure, average opening days in a period
    CK1 = RK2 / RK1..
in this case, I am not sure if it will work or not..
for example, during RK2 calclation, it might be this   2+3 = 5, the line with 0 will be ignored..
during RK1 calcualtion, it might be 1 + 1 + 1 = 3. ---> Not sure in this case, the line with opening days 0 will be calculated or not..
    could you please confirm..

    Hi all,
How to get the number of bytes to read at the TCp port...as someone had suggested in some forum we do read the number of bytes first and then pass this...
but we get a problem when we have FF data in this...because then it sends 2 FF data...and cause of this we skip the last data...is there any solution for the same?

    Hi
In LabVIEW you don't have the same property as in serail port.
You havn't "Byte at TCPIP port".
if you developp a protocol, one soltion, is to send the size to read.

  • How to know the class method behind an enterprise service

    Hi,
SAP has provided enterprise services for Room booking in Real Estate module. They are even shipping the complete application for a nominal price. But the standard version is not suitable for our client requirement so they want to develop this application inhouse.
Now my question is:  I know the enterprise services used in this application. How to know the implementing methods behind these enterprise services ?
If possible suggest which approach will be a better option for the inhouse development.
    1. Webdynpro ABAP and use directly methods behind the enterprise services.
    2. Webdynpro ABAP and create client proxy class for the enterprise services.
    3. Webdynpro JAVA and use the enterprise services.
    4. Using visual composer modelling the application.
    Please suggest the best alternative.
    Best Regards,
    Aleem Mohiuddin.

    Hi
They are even shipping the complete application for a nominal price. But the standard version is not suitable for our client requirement so they want to develop this application inhouse.
I assume you are talking about xApps.
How to know the implementing methods behind these enterprise services ?
In sproxy transaction you can search service and then you can see class and method implemented behind that particular service.
    1. Webdynpro ABAP and use directly methods behind the enterprise services.
In my opinion not recommended to bypass ES and use method behind it.
    2. Webdynpro ABAP and create client proxy class for the enterprise services.
Not sure why you want to create proxy of ES.
    3. Webdynpro JAVA and use the enterprise services.
    4. Using visual composer modelling the application.
You can use either Webdynpro (ABAP or Java) or VC to model your application which consume ES in backend. Both options are good, you can chose Java or ABAP flavor of dynpro based on skill available in team. VC is very effective in rapid modelling and can be used in protyping or in development of complete application.
