Did it ever occur to you that there are (online) shops with those big paper like bricks, which have words in them? They are called books, and if you read them knowledge will lodge itself into your brain if you will let it.
Don't be cheap, buy a book!

  • How to handle external tag-libraries in JSPs using Oracle Stellent?

    I have already started the execution of JSP engine in Oracle Stellent, and also could run the sample Tomcat web-application and basic JSPs in Oracle UCM. What I need to do, is to customize my JSP to be able to show/hide some content using Oracle Stellent.

    Hi ,
    Check if you have jstil.jar in WEB-INF/lib location , if missing manually add jstl.jar into WEB-INF/lib restart UCM Managed server .
    Hope this helps.

  • Standard Tag library

    Hi All
    Could anybody let me know what are all standard tag libraries is
    being used for JSP Development in Jdeveloper 3.2.3 environment
    apart from the default one.
    I founnd couple of them on internet, but its difficult to decide
    which one to use. Can some body provide me the url's where I can
    download the trial versions of them
    Thanks!
    Arvind

    Try the Apache Jkarta project tag libraries. They're free and
    quite extensive. Kudos to Apache for all the fine work this
    group does.

  • Help with JSP Tag Libraries

    Could someone please help me with the setup process of tag libraries? I've looked on the Internet and found some instructions, but they are all for Tomcat. I'm using Jserv, and I'm not sure how to setup my environment to work with custom/tag libraries. Could someone help me by giving me some instructions or sending me to an article that could help me?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi pvongboupha
    The best source for getting to know how to set up tag libraries is the JSP specification. You can download this from :
    http://java.sun.com/products/jsp/download.html
    See the chapter on Tag libraries. Any J2EE compliant server will conform to these rules.
    You can also see a chapter from Core Servlets & JSP by Marty Hall. This chapter is on Tag Libraries
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/Books/javaserverpages/cservletsjsp/
    Keep me posted on your progress.

  • Frame work  problem along with tag libraries...

    Hi..
    I am new to jsp and am making a project in it, I am following MVC architecture but my problem is i am unable to understand all this concept of frameworks like struts, spring etc... i need some help with what they actually are..??
    also i am not using any tag libraries in my project i am using simple jsp files with minimum java coding at the front end and class files at the logic layer... and then the databse layer... i want to know is it better to use tag libraries and for using them will i have to follow any particular framework.. and are these tag libraries different for different frameworks..??... will i be missing something if i don't use tag libraires or don't follow a particular framework...???

    Those taglibs are particularly for the view layer of the MVC pattern. In a MCV framework you use taglibs to associate beans from the model/controller layer with the view layer. The framework will care about getting and setting the bean properties during the HTTP request-response cycle. With for example Sun JSF framework the relevant part of your JSP page would look like:
    <h:form>
        <h:inputText value="#{myBean.input}" />
        <h:commandButton value="submit" action="#{myBean.submit}" />
    </h:form>The JSF framework will generate this as something like<form name="someGeneratedName" method="post" action="currentPage.jsf">
        <input type="text" id="someGeneratedId" name="someGeneratedName" value="theInputValueFromMyBeanIfAny" />
        <input type="submit" id="someGeneratedId" name="someGeneratedId" value="submit" />
    </form>The MyBean class would look like something as:public class MyBean {
        private String input;
        public void submit() {
            System.out.println("The framework has already set the input value: " + input);
            // You can do with this whatever you want. Eg persisting in DB:
            DAOFactory.getInstance("dbname").getSomeDAO().save(new SomeDTO(input));
        public String getInput() {
            return input;
        public void setInput(String input) {
            this.input = input;
    }The average MVC framework also provides customizable Converters (convert between String for output and the desired Object type in model/controller layer) and Validators (required values, numeric values, date values, etc). Each MVC framework have its own taglibraries. For example JSF with the URI's http://java.sun.com/jsf/core and /html. Struts has another taglibs. Further on there is also the Java Standard Tag Library (JSTL) with the URI's http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core, /functions and so on. Mixing of the taglibs is possible, but not always recommended. You should prefer the taglib of the framework used, but if the framework doesn't provide the tag with the desired functionality, then you can add another taglib, such as JSTL or, in case of JSF, Apache Tomahawk and JBoss Ajax4jsf.
    If you want to learn more about JSF, you may find this article useful: [http://balusc.blogspot.com/2008/01/jsf-tutorial-with-eclipse-and-tomcat.html].

  • Can't get standard tags to work

    Hi all!
    I just started to learn jsp and now try to study standard tags.
    I'm using jdk 1.4.2_01
    New tags 1.1 (from Apache) and Tomcat 5 beta.
    My problem is that <c:choose> <c:when> <c:if> and <c:otherwise> tag's bodies are always evaluated. Also <c:out> does not work if i use
    ${myvar} - only out.print(myvar) or <%= myvar /%> are working.
    Here my very simple jsp code:
    <%int randNumber = rand.nextInt(12);%>
    <c:set value="${randNumber}" var="randNumber" /> //I'm not yet sure     whether it's right
    Random is: (does not work)
    <c:out value="${randNumber}">
       ${randNumber}
      </c:out>
      <br>
      <hr>
    Test random:
      <c:if test="${randNumber>7}">
       Random is greater than 7.  //gets printed
       </c:if>
       <br>
      <hr>
       <c:choose>
       <c:when test="${randNumber>7}">
          <c:out>
          Random is greater than 7.//gets printed
          </c:out>
          (<%  out.println(randNumber); %>)<br>
       </c:when>
       <c:when test="${randNumber<7}">
       <c:out>
             Random is lesser than 7.//gets printed
       </c:out>
           (<%  out.println(randNumber); %>)<br>
       </c:when>
       <c:otherwise>
       <c:out>
       The random is exactly 7.//gets printed
       </c:out>
       </c:otherwise>
       </c:choose>Here is output:
    Random is: (does not work) Test random: Random is greater than 7.
    Random is greater than 7. (6 )
    Random is lesser than 7. (6 )
    The random is exactly 7.
    Can anybody tell me what's the matter?? :-(

    I figured out most of it exept for how to set value in a map.
    <%
    Map map = new HashMap();
    map.put("Mon", "Monday");
    map.put("Tue", "Tuesday");
    map.put("Wed", "Tuesday");
    map.put("Thu", "Thursday");
    map.put("Fri", "Friday");
    map.put("Sat", "Saturday");
    map.put("Sun", "Sunday");
    %>
    //I can get value like this:
    <%= ((Map)pageContext.findAttribute("map")).get("Wed") %>
    //or like this
      <c:out value=" ${map.Wed}"/>
    //this does not work:
    <%--
      <c:set value="Wednesday" target="map" property="${map.Wed}" />
    --%>I looked everywhere but it supposed to be so self-evident that details are found nowhere.
    Please tell me how to do it, because I'm stuck here. I'm dumb.

  • JSF - How to set up tag libs in web.xml file?

    Hello all,
    I have a doubt... that in an JSF application we are using two tag libraries, one for the core and other for html components. Both these *.tld files are jared inside "jsf-impl.jar" file.
    The problem is that when i start the web server (Tomcat4.0.6) the console shows that taglib tag must be configured... this means that we have to specify the "<taglib></taglib>" elements in the web.xml file of the jsf application... but how do configure the jar file...
    please guide...

    Putting the JAR files in WEB-INF/lib and using the standard URIs in the taglib directives are all that's needed; the container locates the TLDs in the JAR files at startup.
    If this doesn't work, it's a bug in the container. You may want to upgrade to a later version of Tomcat; 4.0.6 is ancient, and may very well be buggy in this area.

  • JSP Tag Libraries - Useful or not?

    Hello all,
    How popular are tag libraries? Are companies incorporating custom tag libraries? I just want to know if its worth learning in-depth.
    Thnx

    I know that taglibs can be very useful in at least two situations:
    1) For common HTML folk (ie: webpage designers, not software developers) taglibs can offer impressive functionality in comprehensive, simple tags. Hiding Java complexity from these people is a good thing...
    2) For sophisticated JSP pages it can be very useful to encapsulate repetitive and code-intensive functionality in tags as well, because this makes maintenance of your pages simpler (thus cheaper, since you spend less time on it).

  • How can i use tag library in the mvc?

    hello
    in some tag libraris such as jakarta tag library and jrun tag library,there is database
    access tag, it provide convenient function to access database from jsp page,but i wonder how can i use such a tag within MVC architecture.
    as we know,in MVC architecture,all requests from the jsp pages are submit to the controller servlet,then the controller manipulate ejb to access database,it don't allow the database access from the jsp page.
    who can tell me how can i combine the tag library with mvc architecture appropriately?
    thank you!

    You can't! If you decide to limit the JSP to be part of the View component, obviously you should not include tags that directly access the database. If the strict MVC architecture is less important to you, then the tags can save coding time. It's your choice.

  • How to use standard APIs for customized services

    Hello,
    I try to use IUserMappingService which has some hard coded paths to services (user mapping service). However sys admin customized the services location and it's impossible to use standard SAP libraries. For example, the standard library has a path:  "com/sapportals/portal/prt/service/usermapping", but a customized path is "com/sap/portal/pdk/srv/usermapping". When I run this iView, I am getting a message: Caused by: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sapportals/portal/prt/service/usermapping/IUserMappingService
    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Yan

    I guess i know what the problem is. How have you given a reference to the UM service in the portalapps.xml file ??
    I think you would have given the reference as "UserMapping". Now the PRT will look for this particular service and in the portalapps.xml of this service the ClassName would be defined as com.sapportals.portal.prt.service.UserMapping, which the PRT is not able to find.
    You can try giving the FQN in the service reference, but i doubt it will work because the PRT will still look for the above class name at the predefined location.

  • How to import people tags from Windows Live Photo Gallery to Lightroom?

    I know, that this is rather WLPG issue than Lightroom, but maybe someone has had the similar problem. I have used WLPG for sorting and viewing my photos, but now I am starting to use Lightroom. I have used automatic face recognition for tagging people. I know, that there is no such a feature in Lightroom, but the first question would be: how to utilize the existing people taggings? They are embedded to the image, but so far only WLPG is able to use the data. It would be enough for me, if those "people tags" would be automatically used as "normal tags" in Lightroom (i.e. without coordinate information). Any solutions? Of course the face recognition plug-in would be optimal solution

    I know that very well, like you said it did not need much googling. But my question was, if someone has e.g. ready-made plugin for that. Of course I could e.g. let WLPG find the faces and then tag those manually with rather small effort. But it would be nice, if that was done automatically. Like your answer sais, the tagged information is stored to the file, but in non-standard way. It is not rocket science to extract that information and do standard tagging with some plugin. But my coding skills are not enough - not even close. So the original question is still valid.
    Once more: I can do it manually, but can I make it more automatically. Well, I need to check clvrmnky's answer more carefully.

  • Jsp tag libraries

    hi All,
    I am receiving an error when i come to start a jsp page, it returns null pointer exception. so when I checked it is coming from the JSP tag Libraries. instead of the jsp libraries there is a null pointer exception . so any clue how to fix that ?
    thanks
    Amgad

    Yes, marika, download the Jakarta JSTL implementation, unzip it, and put it everything in its /lib directory in your WEB-INF/lib. Then you can refer to the taglib in your JSPs like this:
    <%@ taglib prefix="c" uri="http://java.sun.com/jstl/core" %>That's all you need to do. No <taglib> in your web.xml or anything else. - MOD
