How to limit Query Time?

Hello -
How can I limit a query to run for only 30 seconds? I created a profile named LIMIT_CPU. I then put a resource limit on this profile for the CPU/Call to have a value of 3000. I assigned my user to this profile, ran the query, and I never can limit the time to 30 seconds.
Any help with this is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Mike

You cannot do that at least using resource profiles. You can limit CPU time or I/O using resource profiles. Also remember that CPU_per_call and logical_reads_per_call means - if you get at least one row back in allowable limits Oracle resets the counter and starts again i.e. from Oracle docs: "CPU_PER_CALL Specify the CPU time limit for a call (a parse, execute, or fetch), expressed in hundredths of seconds". The same applies for logical_reads_per_call.
I have succesfully used these limits setting some sensible value for one of our OLTP app. It mostly was necessary for searching - if a user gives some very bad criteria, then prevent him to slow down all other users. CPU_per_call and logical_reads_per_call together with maximum returned record count (tipically 100) for search works very well for us and the message we give to user in case he exceeds the limit is something very general - "your search query exceeded allowable resource limits".

  • How to track querying time in ASO

    Hi
    I am working on an ASO cube and have lot of member formulas in the outline.
    The formulas are really big and could be modified with some tweeks.
    Now i want to check, whether on changing formulas, my querying time is increasing or decreasing. Is there any way or log file to track, how much time did it take when i query for set of members from my spreadsheet.
    I want to compare how much seconds/min did a querying event took.

    Dude,
    I believe the best practice here is going to be to Enable Query Tracking in the Essbase Database (Right-Click database > Query Tracking > Enable).
    At this point we typically write several report scripts that simulate queries against HFR reports, etc. that the business would be pulling on a daily basis (or other frequency). You can even schedule the report scripts so that they execute at some intense frequency to check how the server handles concurrent requests, etc.
    The query tracking output should then provide you with most of the infromation you seek.
    Be sure to turn off query tracking for that database after you've completed your testing/exercise as it add additional processing to the database which will slow down a production server.

  • IPhone 5: alarm keep on ringing: how to limit the time it rings

    I am new to iPhone, and just got my iPhone 5.
    How can I limit the time the alarm rings (to 30 secs or 1 min), it does not stop ringing until I turn it off.  My old cellphone (not smart phine) does that.
    Problem is, when I left my iPhone some place and the alarm goes off, it will keep on ringing (and drain the battery).
    Thank you.
    or is there an APP that does this?

    Great! Finally someone is trying to show how we can use the great Time Capsule drive for both doing (scheduled backups) and other things.
    I have tried your solution, but are having problems in step 3) when trying to create a new sparsebundle directly on the Tiem Capsule share.
    I have carefully prepared after your instructions the line - draggin also the Time Capsule volume to finish the line :
    hdiutil create -size 200g -fs HFSX -volname BakJohn/Volumes/Time Capsule-1/John24GHzPBCoreDuo_XXXecXXbcXXX.sparsebundle
    (X = numbers)
    After hitting ENTER this message comes:
    hdiutil: create failed - No such file or directory
    Do you have any ideas or suggestions?
    But gets this error message

  • Parental control - how to limit internet time

    Anyone got any advice on how to limit internet access time to a shorter time than the full amount of computer time set in Parental Controls. My 14 year old wastes most of her computer time surfing stuff of little value. I am happy for her to still have daily computer time but don't want it all used up on the net. I want to encourage her to use some of the more creative potential of the Mac i.e Garageband, iMovie - she used to - she is very creative but gets sucked into other stuff very easily.
    Are there any add-ons that I should consider?
    Any advice gratefully received.

    If you use a Time Machine connected to your router, you can limit the time on that and when it can kick certain devices of the internet between certain times.
    I would happy to go through the set up of this with you if you would like.
    Other than that there maybe some add-ons / free software however if she's clever enough she could disable them.
    I hope this helps

  • How to increase query time out

    I have a report which is generated using a huge SQL, it is erroring while displaying results, due to time out error:
    State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 17001] Oracle Error code: 1013, message: ORA-01013: user requested cancel of current operation at OCI call OCIStmtExecute
    How to increase this time so that the connection persists for a longer duration?
    thanks

    I looked in the NQSConfig.ini file for you. In here you find the following:
    [ CACHE ]
    ENABLE     =     YES;
    // A comma separated list of <directory maxSize> pair(s)
    // e.g. DATA_STORAGE_PATHS = "d:\OracleBIData\nQSCache" 500 MB;
    DATA_STORAGE_PATHS     =     "/oracle/oaobi01/data/ontwbif1013/OracleBIdata/cache" 500 MB;
    MAX_ROWS_PER_CACHE_ENTRY = 100000; // 0 is unlimited size
    MAX_CACHE_ENTRY_SIZE = 1 MB;
    MAX_CACHE_ENTRIES = 1000;
    I think you can do something with this...
    You can find the nqsconfig.ini in this directory:<Install Drive>\OracleBI\server\Config
    Otherwise have a look in the Server Administration Guide, chapter 11

  • How to limit access time to internet (iPAD2)?

    I want to limit usage time (access time) to internet with iPAD2.  There seems to be no setup for restriction of usage time with iPAD2.  Is there a way app or software or fucntion in Airport to control access by a certain device to the Time Capsule?  Thanks.

    The Timed Access feature on the Time Capsule will allow you to set specific daily time limits for any wireless device that is connected.
    Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
    Click the Access Control tab
    for MAC Access Control, select Timed Access
    For details about this, click Help at the top of the screen and then click AirPort Utility Help.  Enter the following phrase in the Help search box:

  • How to correct Query time estimate?

    In Discoverer Plus 10g,
    The dialog box tells me this query will take 2 hours and 16 minutes and it completes in 15 seconds!!! I verified next day and it showed same time and completed in 15 seconds. This misleads users to take wrong action. I have deleted all the statistics data for this report from EUL5_QPP_STATS table but still no luck.
    Does anyone know how we can fix this estimate time?
    Thanks,
    Jay

    Puppethead - All the tables were analyzed last month
    Chinmay - This is not related to query prediction performance
    Michael- There are only 1083 records in EUL5_QPP_STATS table. Do you still think its best idea to rebuild all 3 indexes?
    This is a strange behavior - Now reports shows estimate runtime more than 3 hrs and completes in 30 seconds with data. Same query when i ran in the TOAD it took 9 mins to complete it.
    Plus shows data in 30 seconds and TOAD takes 9 mins for same query!
    Any idea on this?
    Thanks,
    Jay

  • Posiible to limit query time for any one query

    Hi,
    Using 11.2.0.3
    We have a third-party web-based reporting tool where sql queries are initiated on the database- sometimes the user kills the browser session and query still runs on the database.
    Is it possible ata dtabase level to set max time any one query can run e.g. no query over n hours. This would help kill such queries.
    Also is it possible to cap individual queries to say one query can never use more than n% of cpu, ram available?
    Thanks

    ThanksIf you have Enterprise Edition licences, this is straightforward with the Resource Manager: set a threshold for MAX_EST_EXEC_TIME and all queries that might exceed this will be blocked. You also have CPU limits available.

  • How to limit cpu time spent on javasctipt webworkers?

    There are some pages that compute things using javascript webworkers (sample page: http://jscomputing.pl/compute.php).
    Is there any way to limit such computing? A warning window with kill button is more than I need :)
    I've searched plugins database but didnt find anything...

    There are some articles about workers on MDC:
    *https://developer.mozilla.org/En/DOM/Worker

    I don't know if it possible to terminate such a background task.
    Maybe someone at the mozillaZine Web Development/Standards Evangelism forum has ideas about if it is possible to do this.<br />
    The helpers at that forum are more knowledgeable about web development issues.<br />

  • How to limit search time for high etimes

    We are seeing an issue where some searches are hitting a ceiling of 120 sec which is causing problems downstream in other applications. If the search were to timeout sooner the problems could be handled a bit more gracefully by the other pieces in the puzzle. Is this a tunable option in sunone v5.2? Is this done via the console, or a conf file?
    -Inet

    You can set this with the "nsslapd-timelimit" attribute of cn=config.
    This is documented here:
    http://docs.sun.com/source/817-7616/config.html
    This setting is effective for all users who bind to the server.
    You can also set this per-user (rather than server-wide) by adding a nsTimeLimit attribute to individual accounts.
    This is documented here:
    http://docs.sun.com/source/817-7613/useracct.html#wp19772

  • How to limit the max dialog no that one user can use at the same time?

    Hi,
    I meet one performance problem that one user can open 6 sessions in the GUI and he/she can run 6 reports at the same time witch could occupy 6 dialogs in the sap R/3 instance. It makes poor performance for other users.
    Would you pls tell me how to limit the no. of sessions one user can create at the same time or how to limit the no. of dialogs one user can occupy at the same time?
    Thanks a lot!
    I used this parameters in the default profile as blew:
    rdisp/rfc_check 1
    rdisp/rfc_use_quotas 1
    rdisp/rfc_max_own_used_wp 20 (means: 20%)
    It still didn't work.
    Sean

    Hello,
    We can reserve DIA W.P by giving value to the parameter :- rdisp/rfc_min_wait_dia_wp=1(default)
    that have to necessarily remain free for other users.
    This parameter is used to reserve a number of dialog work processes for Dailog mode.
    For eg. If 10 dialog w.p. are configured for the instance(rdsip/wp_no_dia=10) and the parameter rdisp/rfc_min_wait_dia_wp=3 is set, parallel RFC's can occupy a maximum of 7 DIA W.P.3 DAI W.P. always remain free for dialog mode.
    But now the question is how we assign/restrict this free dialog w.p. to the specific user.

    How do I use Airport Extreme to limit internet time for my kids?  His computer is hardwired to the modem.

    You can set up daily time limits for each computer that connects using wireless, but it is not possible to do this when a computer is connecting directly using a wired Ethernet connection.
    Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility on your Mac and click Manual Setup
    Click the Access Control tab below the icons
    Select Timed Access
    For more details on this, click the Help menu at the top of the screen and enter the following phrase into the search box:

    A more sophisticated approach would be to use a service provided by OpenDNS. From your computer, this would allow you to monitor web sites visited, and block any unsuitable sites. More info is here:

  • How to Implement a Time Limit Feature in an Online Test Application ?

    I am creating an Online Test application. The time limit can be stored for a Test in the database.
    How to implement a time limit such that when the test is started (user clicks on the Start button to go to the fragment containing the Questions) the time left is shown and the test ends (goes to home page) when the timer reaches zero.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    timestamp is a date and thus cannot be used directly to determine seconds passed. So what you need to do is to build the difference between a saved time stamp and the current time.
    http://docs.oracle.com/javase/1.4.2/docs/api/java/sql/Timestamp.html
    So if you have two time stamps, then calling getTime() on each and building the difference gives you a value, which is millisecond. So to get this to an int value you divide it by 1000
