How to load properties inner Jdeveloper

Hello,
I'm trying to load properties from some file using something like this
"final URL in = this.getClass().getResource("/jfreereport.resources");"
But this allways returns me null, so this Mean that my properties file was not loaded, I tried add this file to my classpath (throught project properties), and when I run my classpath has the file but my application is not capable to locate my properties, why??
How is the exactly procedure to load this properties files??
Thanks in advanc
Mauricio Alarcon

Try something like:
  Properties props = new Properties();
  try
    InputStream in = ClassLoader.getSystemResourceAsStream("/jfreereport.resources");
    props.load(in);
    in.close();
  catch(Exception ex)
     //do something
  }

  • How to load properties file

    Hello Everyone,
    We are experiencing difficulties when trying to load a properties file from a directory other then the one where the servlet is located. We are using the following code for this purpose:
    private final String PROP_FILE_NAME = "my.properties";
    Properties props = new Properties();
    try {
    props.load(getClass().getResourceAsStream(codeBase + PROP_FILE_NAME));
    } catch(IOException e) {
    //handle error ...
    where codeBase is either physical directory path to the properties file or the URL. In either case we get a NullPointer exception which means that file is not found. But when we copy the properties file into the same directory where the servlet resides, everything works fine.
    Does anybody have an idea as to how to resolve our problem?
    Any help will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!
    Y.M.

    HI,
    I always keep my properties in a sub-directory called resources. In this case it is called Aircraft.properties.
    * Holds the ResourceBundle of this object.
         private static ResourceBundle resources;
         static
              try
                   resources = ResourceBundle.getBundle("resources.Aircraft", Locale.getDefault());
              catch (MissingResourceException mre)
                   System.err.println("resources/Aircraft.properties not found");
                   System.exit(1);
    // Here I pick up the data from the properties file
         protected String getResourceString(String nm)
              String str;
              try
                   str = resources.getString(nm);
              catch (MissingResourceException mre)
                   str = null;
              return str;
    // In this case I use menubar as key to my properties
    String[] menuKeys = tokenize(getResourceString("menubar"));
    Hope this will help a bit.

  • How can load properties file for one time and use in entire application

    Hi folks,
    I dont want to read properties file every time , and want to get property value in any servelet or jsp page.(means i want to read only property file only for once and want to get value in any where ) , how to do this.

    means we have to read file every time Know but i dont
    want to be happen that ??? No you don't . You read the file once. You store it in the hashmap. Then you hand that hashmap to whatever class needing the data.
    getProperties() returns the hashmap, doesn't read the file.
    Maybe I should have called the method getMap or something.

  • How to load properties from csv file directly into a .dll parameter in a test step

    Hi,
    I would like to take values from a property file  and plug them directly into parameter used to invoke dll calls.
    I have looked at examples on how to use the property loader to input test limits, but I cannot figure out how to pipe into the params.
    I have tried. <step name>.Module.<param name>
    step.propertieslist[0].
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I agree that it would be nice.  The difference between limits and parameters though is that parameters are set dynamically.  What I mean by that is you never know how many parameters a step will have until you define the module. Whereas the Limits are always set in stone.  The only difference is the MultiNumeric Limit Test which is just an array that get's appended too with the same datatype.  And the only acess to a parameters value is through the API unless it is a variable.
    The other hard part is that you don't know the datatype of parameters.  Any step can have any number of parameters as well as any datatype being passed to each individual parameter.
    I think if you are set on NOT creating Locals or FileGlobals then you would need to create custom step types with subproperties that get assigned to the parameters.  This could be even more painful though because now you have to maintain and support the custom step types.
    The other option would be to create your own property loader step that could call in and set things in the API.  HMMM now that would be an interesting project...

  • How to load a properties from path that is relative to the classpath

    Hello;
    I need to load a set of properties from a propertie file from inside and EJB. I need to do so that I don't set the full absoulte path of the property file. In brief I don't want to be dependent on the file system struture instead I want to read the property file relatively to the package path name.
    Here is my code:
    package packagename.com;
    import packagename.com.*;
    import java.util.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class PropDemo {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    public static final String PROP_FILE_NAME
    = "configuration.properties";
    File inputFile = new File(PROP_FILE_NAME);
    Properties prop = new Properties();
    try {
    FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(inputFile);
    prop.load(fis);
    } catch (Exception e) {
    Any body have an idea how to so.

    mal

    I realize that you are trying to be a pain in the arseNot really. I know that I spent about a day figuring it out and that was after skirting around the issue for a about a year.
    with that reply, but we can look here:
    public void load(InputStream inStream) throws
    IOExceptionReads a property list (key and element pairs) from the
    input stream. The stream is assumed to be using the
    ISO 8859-1 character encoding.
    The original post suggests the author already knows how to load from a file. So this doesn't help at all.
    And possibly GASP cross reference this entry in
    Class:
    public InputStream getResourceAsStream(String name)Finds a resource with a given name. This method
    returns null if no resource with this name is found.
    The rules for searching resources associated with a
    given class are implemented by the defining class
    loader of the class.
    Now you may equivocate that the docs don't
    specifically state that the classpath is where
    resources are searched for, but I would maintain that
    any Java developer worth anything should know this.Really? So where, in the above entry, does it explain the impact of the "/" character at the beginning of the string?
    I know how classes are searched for. I know the impact of the class path. How that impacts a 'resource' is less clear. Particularily since the "/" character has nothing to do with loading classes.

  • How to set servlet properties in JDeveloper 3.1?

    Hello,
    I am using JDeveloper 3.1 and try to develop some servlets, however, when I cannot locate any servlet.properties file to configure my serlvet (basically some init param). For other web server, I know that there are either a servlet.properties file or a admin port for developer to do this? Do anyone know how to do this in JDeveloper?

    Hello Ting,
    I also failed to locate the servlet.properties file for JDeveloper when I try to configure our testing platform, we finally resort to use JWS to test our servlets instead. It seems that JDeveloper is just too immature and incapable of performing this run time servlet configration, or could the JDev Team shed some light on this issue?
    Cheers,
    Dav.

  • How to load Java properties file dynamically using weblogic server

    Hi,
    We are using Java properties file in Java code. Properties in java properties file are frequently modified. If I keep these properties file in project classpath or as part of war, I will have to redeploy application after each change.
    We are using Weblogic Server.
    Can you please suggest me how can this properties file be loaded at weblogic server startup. Then in that case, how to refer property file in Java code?
    What is the best practice for this?
    Thanks,
    Parshant

    Another alternative is, keep the property file in any pre-defined location. Write a class which reads the properties from the file and returns the one which is requested by caller and deploy this class. Whenever you have to change the properties just update the property file on server and next call to fetch the property should return the updated one.
    Downside of this approach is file I/O everytime. To overcome that you can actually "cache" the properties in a hashmap. Basically when any property if requested, first check the hashmap, if not found then only read from property file and also update in hash map. Next time same property will be returned from hash map itself. The hash map will be cleared at every server restart since its in the memory. You will also need to build a method to clear the hashmap when you update the values in the property file on server.
    This solution would be suitable for small size files and when network overhead of calling a DB needs to be avoided.

  • How to load log4j.properties

    how to load log4j.properties file in my java code ?
    i have put log4j.properties in c:\property\log4j.properties directory.
    how do i load this properties file ?

    Normally you don't have to load it explicitely at
    all. Just place it in your classpath and use log4j,
    it should be loaded automagically.so, at run time i should use
    java -classpath .;c:\property\log4j.properties;c:\log4j.jar; MyClass
    is this the syntax ?

  • How to use properties file

    Hi,
    I want to use properties file in my application. I have kept properties file inside a directory called properties which is inside myProject(which is the parent directory of my project) i.e "myProject/properties".
    My java file where i want to call this properties file is inside the myProject/WEB-INF/src/java.
    How can i call the properties file from myProject/WEB-INF/src/java/PropertyReader.java
    I wrote java program in myProject/WEB-INF/src/java/PropertyReader.java like:::::
    ResourceBundle resBun = ResourceBundle.getBundle("Test", Locale.getDefault()); // Test.properties is inside myProject/properties
    resBun..getString("name");
    After running the program i am getting the following errors:::::
    Exception in thread "main" java.util.MissingResourceException: Can't find bundle for base name Test, locale en_US
    at java.util.ResourceBundle.throwMissingResourceException(ResourceBundle.java:836)
    at java.util.ResourceBundle.getBundleImpl(ResourceBundle.java:805)
    at java.util.ResourceBundle.getBundle(ResourceBundle.java:576)
    at PropertiesReader.main(PropertiesReader.java:4)
    What is the issue? How to use properties file?
    Waiting for reply.
    Thanks

    Still getting same exception. As you explained i tried like the below:::
    1. I am using ant as build tool.
    2. My properties file is for database configuration
    My properties file is::
    database.properties (inside myProject/properties)
    JDBCDriver=org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver
    JDBCConnectionURL=jdbc:mysql://pmdbmysql:3306/bandwidthshaper?user=admin&password=admin
    My java package structure is
    WEB-INF/src/java
    WEB-INF/src/classes
    For build WEB-INF is the base directory and build.xml is inside the src directory
    In my build.xml i wrote the following lines for compilation::
              <target name="compile" >
                   <javac srcdir="src" destdir="src/classes" debug="true" debuglevel="lines,vars,source">
                        <classpath refid="class.path"/>
                   </javac>
    <copy todir = "src/classes" >
    <fileset dir = "../properties" />
    </copy>
                   <jar jarfile="lib/${project.jar.file}" basedir="src/classes"/>
              </target>
    I am copying properties file to the classes directory.
    Now in java file which is inside /WEB-INF/src/java, I wrote::
    try {
    Properties programProps = new Properties();
    InputStream is = getClass().getResourceAsStream("/database.properties");
    if(is == null)
    throw new IllegalStateException("Properties file missing ");
    programProps.load(is);
    System.out.println("driver name::::::: "+programProps.getProperty("JDBCDriver"));
    is.close();
    } catch(Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    After compilation in my classes directory i am getting database.properties file and my java file with package.
    At the time of running i am getting "java.lang.IllegalStateException: Properties file missing"
    Now tell me where is the fault. Why again i am getting exception.
    Thanks

  • How to load data with carriage return through DRM action script ?

    Hello,
    We are using DRM to manage Essbase metadata. These metadata contain a field for member formula.
    Currently it's a string data type property in DRM so we can't use carriage return and our formula are really hard to read.
    But DRM support other data type property : memo or formatted memo where we can use carriage return.
    Then in the export file, we have change the record delimiter to an other character than CRLF
    Our issue : we are regularly using action script to load new metadata => How to load data properties with carriage return using action script ? There is no option to change the record delimiter.
    Thanks!

    here what I want to do through action script : loading a formula that use more on than one line:

         at g2.main.Main.main(Main.java:37)but this code worked before, and I've got the xerces and xercesImpl packages in the classpath, anyone can give me an hint on how to fix the problem?

    Here there's the code that instantiates the HRPMProperties object loading the property file:
    public class HRPMProperties extends Properties {
         * A reference to myself.
        protected static HRPMProperties mySelf = null;
         * The property file to which load the configuration.
        protected static String propertyFile = "./conf/login.prop";
          * A set of static strings used as keys in the properties file.
         public final static String DATABASE_URL = "database_url";
         public final static String DATABASE_USERNAME = "database_username";
         public final static String DATABASE_PASSWORD = "database_password";
         public final static String REAL_USERNAME = "real_username";
         public final static String REAL_PASSWORD = "real_password";
         public final static String PHANTOM_LOGIN = "login_thru_phantom_user";
         public final static String AUTOCONNECT = "autoconnect";
         public final static String TRANSLATION_FILE = "translation_file";
         * Builds up an empty properties map.
        protected HRPMProperties(){
         super();
         this.reload();
         * Builds up the property map from the specified input file. <B> The file must be in XML format</B>.
         * In case of exception and/or problems reading from the specified file, an empty property map is returned.
         * @param fileName the path and the name of the file with the XML representation of the properties.
        protected HRPMProperties(String fileName){
         super();
         try{
             this.loadFromXML(new FileInputStream(fileName));
         }catch(Exception e){
             Logger.error("Cannot load properties from the specified file <"+fileName+"> " + e);
             e.printStackTrace();
         * Provides an instance of the property class loaded from the default configuration file.
         * @return the property instance
        public static final HRPMProperties getInstance(){
         if( HRPMProperties.mySelf != null )
             return HRPMProperties.mySelf;
         else{
             HRPMProperties.mySelf = new HRPMProperties(HRPMProperties.propertyFile);
             return HRPMProperties.mySelf;
    }The constructor is the one triggering the exception, so there's a problem loading the XML property file.

  • How to load aliases to Dimension

    Hi,
    I have a Dimension Hierarchy like this,
    Account_Dim     (Dimension)
             -------> product1 (Member)
             -------> Product2 (Member)
    I am able to load aliases for members(product1 & product2) through HspOutlineLoad.sh with csv file. But don not  know how to do the same for Dimension Name (Account_Dim).
    HspOutlineLoad with " /D " switch seems to be loading only member properties. Please help how to load aliases to Dimension name through HspOutlineLoad. Sample format of csv/or whatever would be of great help.
    Thanks
    Mamatha

    You'll have to create 3 alias tables to hold 3 aliases. You cannot have 3 aliases for a dimension with 1 alias table.
    After adding you can then load (your header will look like something similar)
    Account,Parent,Alias: Default,Alias: French,Alias: German,Alias: Italian,Data Storage,Source Plan Type,Plan Type (Plan1),Aggregation (Plan1),Plan Type (Plan2),Aggregation (Plan2),Plan Type (Plan3),Aggregation (Plan3),Plan Type (Wrkforce),Aggregation (Wrkforce),Plan Type (Capex),Aggregation (Capex)
