How to lock a user's account

Hi there,
In Solaris 9, how can I lock a user's account. By saying lock, I don't want to delete the account and any user's date under his home directory, I just want to inactivate it. I chceked the man page of useradd but I couldn't find it.
Any related informationa is highly appreciated!

Not sure if anything has changed from Solaris 8 to 9 but you should be able to use the passwd command. Use,
$passwd -l username
This will lock the account.
To activate the account again use the passwd command like,
passwd username
Then specify the password.

  • Trying to connect to a Windows share locks out users Windows account.

    Right then I’m coming to the end of my tether !!!
    I've got a user who needs to access a share on a Windows server. All is well and the user gets the challenge prompt but instead of letting him in it constantly challenges him locking out his windows account.
    Now the share is on a DC so i cant make him a local Admin and the only way i can get this working is to have him in the domain admin group which is NOT the way forward, so i'm looking at permissions i guess.
    Can anyone point me in the right direction to fix this .. Arhhhh

    The table is usr02. The command is as below:
    update <schema>.usr02 set uflag=128;
    in case you need to mention any particular user to be locked, mention in the where clause.
    Before using this command, use the select statement to check the current status of the users.

    Even though the IDM 6.0 SP1 documentation
    talks about a lockOrUnlock workflow service,
    (as you mention),
    it appears that there is no such thing.
    There is however an undocumented
    'lock' workflow service which calls
    a lockOrUnlock private java method.
    This mirrors the correctly documented
    enable and disable workflow services,
    which also internally call a private java method
    disableOrEnable.
    More bad documentation I think.

    i need to lock a user from a target system by pushing in random passwords for the accounts. i am successfully able to create an adapter that can generate a random string, but the place where i am stuck is that where to use it as i just need to lock the user and not delete it. if the corresponding manager approves the suspension then the account needs to be deleted else again the account needs to be enabled.

    so what i did is that i have created a resource that has to be provisioned to the user if the user is to be terminated, in which the manager will mention the user to be terminated and the reason.
    now OIM has to lock the user till the reason that has been given by the manager is deemed valid by the second level manager.
    so for that i have a approval and a process form and processes associsted with them. but the problem is that i need to lock the user using the "Entity Adapter" so i need to do so only in the "Data Object Manager" and thus the problem starts as i dont know where to map the adapter that generates the random password so as to lock the user.
    please, if you find anything confusing here, go thru the discussion in the whole of the thread.

  • How to restore a user home account to a new hard drive

    I had a hard drive go out and before it did, I have a copy of my user directory on a firewire drive. I got a new hd and am ready to move the back up over to the new drive.
    Is there any steps I should follow to do such? Will a simple copy of the total user account over to the new drive work ok if I create the exact name of the backup home directory to the new drive and say "replace"? I want to make sure my mail, docs and music directories are correct. I have the apps backed up but can reinstall them if need be and not to mes with the libraries.

    Boot the machine with your install disk, select your language, and, when the menu bar pops up, select Utilities/Disk Utility, select the new HD, select erase and format/partition (as desired) Mac OS Extended and install OS 9 drivers if the machine supports OS 9 booting (not shown in your configuration information), under security options select zero out data. Once the drive is formatted, install Tiger. After the machine restarts, go through the welcome dialogs and use the same name, shortname, and password you used originally. After that finishes, simply mount the FWHD and you should be able to just drag and drop everything from the backed up users folder to the new one. Don't drag the users folder, just the subfolders.
    Once you've successfully restored everything, then use something like Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper!, etc. to make a bootable backup onto the FWHD. That way, you can always reverse the procedure whenever the HD goes south again.

    I'm having an issue at work where the AdobeUpdater appears to be caching the username and password in order to get through the proxy when checking for updates. Our password policy requires a new password every 30 days. After a password change, updater will run with old information and lock the user's account. It never prompts for a new password, just keeps trying until the account is locked. If I manually run AdobeUpdaterInstallMgr.exe I'm prompted with a dialog box that shows the domain\username and password along with a check box to save the password. Then, the user can enter the new password and uncheck the box and everything appears to work fine.
    Does anyone know where the cached information is being stored? It would be nice to be able to push out a patch that clears this information without having to involve each user.

    Im currently experiencing the same problem with my users.
    Users report that whenever they start adobe updater, the account will lockout.
    Somehow it stores the old passwords. I've checked the stored usernames and passwords. Only .net passports are located there.
    I also got a policy requiring a password change every 45 days.
    Any solutions?

    select account_status, username from dba_users;
    If the status is locked:
    alter user XXXXXX account unlock;
    If also is expired:
    ALTER USER xxxxx IDENTIFIED BY password;

    If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
    Otherwise*, boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
    When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
    from the menu bar.
    In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
    Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
    Press return. A Reset Password window opens.
    Select your boot volume if not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
    Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select

    from the menu bar.
    You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.

    I have read the SSO admin guide, and performed the steps for enabling SSL on the SSO, and followed the steps to configure mod_osso with virtual host on port 4443 as mentioned in the admin guide.
    The case now is that when I call my form (which is developed by forms developer suite 10g and deployed on the forms server which is SSO enabled) , it calls the SSO module on port 7777 using http (the default behaviour).
    on a URL that looks like this :
    http://myhostname:7777/pls/orasso/orasso.wwsso_app_admin.ls_login?Site2pstoreToken=.......
    and gives the error :
    ( Forbidden
    You don't have permisission to access /sso/auth on this server at port 7777)
    when I manually change the URL to :
    https://myhostname:4443/pls/orasso/orasso.wwsso_app_admin.ls_login?Site2pstoreToken=.......
    the SSO works correctly.
    The question is :
    How can I change this default behaviour and make it call SSO on port 4443 using https instead ?
    Any ideas ?
