How to log in automatically to an Apex application

I'm looking for a way to launch an Apex app that uses database authentication from e.g. Forms without having to enter your username and password again and I found this clue in a document about extending Oracle Applications 11i with Apex:
"The next problem to overcome is the automatic logon to the Apex application. Here two approaches that could be used are:
1. Create an Apex public logon page where you can supply the username and password as parameters to the page;
2. Pass the username and password from Applications 11i to Apex in a cookie."
I'm more interested in the first option but I can't find any examples of it. The Apex sample application seems to have a login page but I can't figure out how it would accept the username and password as parameters?

  • How to Print Receipts to Miniprinter from Apex Application

    I have an APEX Application to control orders in a restaurant. I need to automatically print orders to an Epson miniprinter in the kitchen as they are generated in multiple workstations within the place.
    There is no way of doing this in APEX. Is there a way to do it using PL/SQL? The server is not inside the place. The connection may be made through SQL*Plus or SQL Developer.
    I can see hundreds of places where the receipts are printed automatically (convenience stores, department stores, etc). I am sure most of them are using Oracle. How do they do that?
    I have been stuck with this for weeks. I can't find information about it in the forums, nor in the user manuals.
    Please help.
    Francisco.

    Hi Sven,
    Thanks for the reply.
    I have an order_detail table where every dish and beverage is recorded. Where the category is dish, there should be a process running concurrently that sends that line (or the lines accumulated in a time interval of 30 or 60 seconds) to the printer and then mark them as printed to avoid selecting them in the following run. No button and no human intervention.
    I have an APEX screen that does the job nicely, displaying the pending items and with a checkbox to mark them as delivered. But my customers want the printed thing.
    For the check I have a BI Publisher report that is opened with a button, then the PDF opens and then the cashier must send that PDF to the printer. Two or three clicks needed and it works. But that is not practical for the cook in the kitchen.
    The other issue is that the server is not within the place. Currently I am working with a server in the UK, and my business is in Mexico. So there is no way to have a printer physically connected to the server. Everything should be done at the client side.
    So do you think there could be a solution in this scenario? Is there some way to spool from SQL Developer or SQL*Plus to a txt file concurrently? That might be the answer.
    Option 2: Assuming the customer might want to buy its own server. Could you tell me more about that apex_job that may help?

  • Schedule automatic backup on ApEx application

    Hi all,
    Does anyone knows how to automatically schedule and backup an ApEx application into a SQL File, saving it into server file system.
    Regards Pedro.

    John, i solved the previous error with a new definition for the CLASSPATH, but when i execute the command: "java oracle.apex.APEXExport" i get the following error:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: oracle/apex/APEXExport (Unsupported major.minor version 49.0)
    My versions are:
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - 64bit

    This error might be related with the versions?

  • How to provide the user in an APEX application with low-vision apex option

    Hi I've a small problem I'm trying to solve but can't seem to find anything on this.
    The issue is this I've developed an application and the user can log on and use it successfully. For those users that are visually impared I need a link on my main application to a High Contrast version of the same application.
    Is this even possible.
    I don't want to have to create a new application using a high contrast theme, as I would need to maintain 2 applications in the end.
    Is there a way of changing the colors at run time to a higher contrast version.
    Many thanks.

    Hi,
    I just wanted to add to this discussion with some functionality introduced in APEX 4.1 that may help here. In APEX 4.1, we introduced a new 'High Contrast Mode' which basically identifies sessions as optimized for high contrast in the APEX development environment and websheet runtime. This allowed us to get around some issues we were having when a user was running in 'Windows High Contrast Mode' (where CSS background images are ignored) and also some issues with insufficent contrast. To read more about this mode, please see the 'About Constrast Mode' section in the 'Accessibility in Oracle Application Express' appendix here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E23903_01/doc/doc.41/e21674/accessibility002.htm#BABBCIJD
    Now, although this mode is available for use within your own database applications, it really only provides the framework for you to provision the mode and importantly, will not make any changes to your application (that's still up to you). But I think the framework is still useful and provides some nice API's to help you turn the mode on or off and also determine the status of the mode.
    I have setup a simple example to show you how this works:
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=11005:1
    It's rudimentary, just showing 1 region if High Contrast Mode is on, and another if it's off. This page has the following:
    1) Select list to select whether the mode is on or off.
    2) Page process to set the mode, depending on the select list value. This performs the following PL/SQL (showing the APIs you can use to switch the mode on or off):
    if :P1_HIGH_CONTRAST = 'Y' then
      apex_util.set_session_high_contrast_on;
    elsif :P1_HIGH_CONTRAST = 'N' then
      apex_util.set_session_high_contrast_off;
    end if;3) The region's have 'PL/SQL Expression' conditions that call another API that you can use to check if the current session is running in HC Mode. For example:
    apex_util.is_high_contrast_sessionOnce the mode is enabled, it will remain enabled for the length of the current session (or until it is switched off). To understand more about how you can use HC Mode, please see here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E23903_01/doc/doc.41/e21674/advnc001.htm#CIJCDGII
    So as I said, the example I gave as kinda simple. But you could easily extend this to say include an additional CSS file when running in HC Mode (containing the CSS styles and properties that would give you the increased contrast). You could do this by adding a page zero page process to run before header, that calls the apex_util.is_high_contrast_session API to determine if the current session is in HC mode, then include the CSS file if so. To see an example of this, please see here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E23903_01/doc/doc.41/e21676/apex_util.htm#autoId71
    I hope this helps, at least with the framework side of things, if you can upgrade to 4.1 at all.
    Regards,
    Anthony.

  • How do I disable automatic update download and application?

    I was on FF5 and went to Check for Updates ... then it automatically grabbed an update and asked me to restart. I didn't want the update... I just wanted to know if there was one available or not.
    I killed firefox hoping to avoid the auto-installation of the new code... but, as you know, as soon as I started firefox, it updated to FF6... now my Java 6.0.26 and Acrobat CreatePDF are broken.
    6.0.26 is the latest version of Java, so apparently there's no fix there and the Acrobat update requires a new purchase!
    This is insane! How can I check for updates without committing to the installation of a new update until I am ready and have confirmed, in advance, that my plugins are compatible?
    How can I step back to the last "known good" configuration?
    Thank you,
    Michael

    Thanks for the suggestion. It makes sense. Unfortunately, my wife will be using the iMac while I'm gone, so she would have to forward what she thought was important. Seems odd to me that the Manual command doesn't seem to do anything.

  • How does log-configuration.xml work?

    Hi,
    Anyone has an idea how the "log-configuration.xml" works in Enterprise Application Project? If this properties file is configured properly, what is to be done in the code so that the log/trace messages can be written to a designated destination?
    I have been trying to find a appropriate documentation, but have not been successful so far.
    Appreciate if someone can share his/her experience with me.

  • How to automatically login to apex and run a specific page / application

    Hi all.
    I'd like to know if there is a way of automatically login to apex and run a specific page / application. I mean, invoke browser and pass the necessary information to login (not public user) and run a specific application( ina secure way if possible).
    Thanks in advance ...!

    Hi,
    Well, as a very crude test you can set your authentication scheme to be Application Express Authenticationand define some users in Apex. Then create a before header login process on the login page (101) to automatically logon containing:
    apex_authentication.login(
        p_username => :P101_USERNAME,
        p_password => :P101_PASSWORD );
    :P101_PASSWORD := NULL;conditional on P101_PASSWORD is not null.
    Then you can login by specifying your username and password in the URL e.g.
    f?p=YOURAPP:LOGIN:::::P101_USERNAME,P101_PASSWORD:username,password

  • Problem with logging in to apex application builder listener

    I have problem with my settings and am posting this in hope that someone else out there had similar problem and solved it!
    I am trying to use reverseproxy to access to our db through apex listener.
    It's been all set-up and I can login to the application it self either through proxy or no proxy using the listener.
    But when I try to login to apex application builder I cannot do it through proxy(with no proxy, it works).
    It just refreshes the login page when I click login....
    I tried to upgrade the listener to the latest v1.1(using 1.0.2) but it causes my tomcat to crash...
    So solution i am looking for is how to make logging in work through proxy..
    In the firebug it is showing that below and few other request status as 302 moved temporariry
    http://myserver:8080/testsin/apex/wwv_flow.accept
    Where as with no proxy it is saying Found.....
    Any thoughts??
    Thanks
    Sin K

    Hello Sin K,
    so proxy and Tomcat are located on different machines as well? Is the proxy able to commuicate with the Tomcat on the configured internal ports and is the proxy able to lookup the hostname you configured for the Tomcat?
    For the connector, the proxyName and proxyPort should be the parameters the client uses to call APEX. So if your clients should call via http://proxyserver:8080/testsin/apex the settings would be
    proxyName=proxyserver
    proxyPort=8080Reason for this is that applications (e.g. the APEX Listener) generate there URL references with these parameters.
    But does your proxy actually serve on port 8080? And is that port accessible by clients? Do clients accept cookies from that server?
    In my case, there is only one 302 which redirects to http://host:port/apex/f?p=4500:1000:sessionid which is correct.
    If you look into your first post request in firebug, what's in the request header?

  • How to set up automatic payment for the purchase order

    Hi, All,
    I have one question how to set up automatically payment for the Rent Office purchase Order?
    There is the requirement from the client. They want to create one kind of purchase order for the Office Rent, then pay the fees in the certain time of every month to the vendor for the rent fees without any invoice. Whatu2019s the normal solution for this kind of purchase order? Is it ERS? Or something else?
    Please give me the details and business flow. Also please tell me how to setup in the SAP and T-code.
    Thanks in advance

    Either you can set up ERS or you can pay directly from the FI side.
    Prerequisites
    Evaluated receipt settlement must be flagged in the purchase order item.
    The vendor must be flagged as being subject to ERS in the vendor master record.
    The goods receipt must refer to a purchase order.
    Goods-receipt-based Invoice Verification must be defined for the purchase order item.
    A tax code must have been maintained in the purchase order item.
    The order price of the materials may not be an estimated price.
    If you flag a vendor as being subject to ERS, the system sets the ERS indicator as a default in each item when you create a purchase order for the vendor. You can prevent this happening for certain vendors by flagging the info record for the material and the vendor as not being subject to ERS.
    In Purchasing, you can delete the default ERS indicator in a purchase order item.
    Choose Logistics Invoice Verification ® Automatic Settlement ® Evaluated Receipt Settlement (ERS).
    The selection screen appears.
    You can use the following criteria to narrow down selection of the transactions to be settled:
    Company code
    Plant
    Goods receipt posting date
    Goods receipt document
    Fiscal year of the goods receipt
    Vendor
    Purchase order and order item
    You can define the selection criteria for the invoice documents by:
    Delivery
    Purchase order
    Purchase order item
    Goods receipt document
    Credit memo
    Invoice
    Currency
    Choose  Execute.
    The system issues a log for Evaluated Receipt Settlement, which displays the following:
    Settled
    In line with your selection criteria, the system displays all the order items that were settled (or if you are working in test mode, which would have been settled).
    Could not be settled
    In line with your selection criteria, the system displays all order items for which ERS is defined but could not be settled. It also lists the reasons.
    If the system reports being unable to invoice a transaction, you should exclude the transaction from ERS to avoid it being included in the log the next time ERS is run.
    Select the item and choose Exclude from ERS.
    The system also generates and possibly sends a message to inform the vendor(s) about the transaction settled, depending on the settings in Customizing.
    You can display the following environment information for the order items selected. To do this, choose Goto ®:
    Display purchase order
    Display invoice
    Display material document
    Display long text

  • Single log in for multiple apex application in same workspace

    hi forum.
    We created 5 applications based on same schema and all in one workspace now. Actually, initially they were created on different machines. now, we have to authenticate users from AD and depending on user type, have to allow or deny some modules. i have created one pager application which have 5 buttons and can control rendering of buttons according to user logged in but...the problem is, inside the applications, i have restrictions on some reports for some users...now one way was to do that is to create a log in for every application separately and thus every application would exactly know who is logged in. but that would be impractical as we need single-sign-on kind of functionality.
    please let me know how to have a single log in page work for all application inside the apex workspace so that every application would know name of the user currently logged in.
    for the 5 applications, i actually use No_Authentication authentication scheme. and i use following function initially for my one pager application to render the buttons to user or deny
    create or replace function getUserName return varchar2
    is
       userName varchar2(20);
       c owa_cookie.cookie;
    begin
        c := owa_cookie.get('LOGIN_USERNAME_COOKIE');
        userName := c.vals(1);
        return trim(userName);
    end;but i cannot user this function obviously in my 5 actual applications.
    help is requested please.
    bundle of thanks in advance.

    You can create one application that does the login authentication according to your authentication scheme. When authenticated, this login app sets a cookie. That's all the login app does (and maybe show a list of available apps to choose from).
    The other apps have an even simpler authentication scheme. The only thing they have to do is check the cookie and redirect to the login page (Session Not Valid URL) if there is no valid cookie.

  • How to create different log files for each of web applications deployed in OC4J

    Hi All,
    I am using OC4J(from Oracle) v1.0.2.2 and Windows2000. Now I want to know
    1. how to create different log files for each of my deployed web applications ?
    2. what are the advantages in running multiple instances of oc4j and in what case we should run
    multiple instances of OC4J ?
    3. how to run OC4J as Windows2000 Service rather than Windows2000 Application ?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Kumar.

    Hi Avi,
    First of all I have given a first reading to log4j and I think there will some more easy way of logging debugging messages than log4j (If you could provide me a detailed explanation of a servlet,jsp,java bean that uses log4j and how to use log4j then it will be very helpful for me). The other easy ways (if I am not using log4j) to my problem i.e creating different log files for each of web applications deployed in oc4j are
    I have created multiple instances of OC4J that are configured to run on different ports and so on each instance I have deployed a single web application . And I started the 2 oc4j instances by transferring thier error/log messages to a file. And the other way is ..
    I have download from jakarta site a package called servhelper . This servhelper is a thread that is started in a startup servlet and stopped in the destroy method of that startup servlet. So this thread will automatically capture all the system.out.println's and will print those to a file. I believe that this thread program is synchronized. So in this method I need not run multiple instances of OC4J instead each deployed web application on single instance of oc4j uses the same thread program (ofcourse a copy of thread program is put in each of the deployed web applications directories) to log messages on to different log files.
    Can you comment on my above 2 approached to logging debugging messages and a compartive explanation to LOG4J and how to use LOG4J using a simple servlet, simple jsp is appreciated ...
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ravi.

  • How to restore or backup Apex application from Command line ? URGENT

    We have Oracle apex 4.1 installed in Oracle 11g R2 database (windows 64-bit) 2008 R2
    For some reason our database dictionary objects are corrupted.
    We wanted to backup our Apex applications in some workspaces ASAP.
    We are not able to access apex from http://localhost:7777/pls/apex/htmldb_login
    We have an underlying database schema export (expdp).
    1) Is there a way to export or backup the apex application without logging into the apex URL ? if yes how ?
    2) Does Oracle has any of its own native tool to backup and restore from command line ?
    Thanks in advance

    My (MS Windows) experience, if I may; perhaps you'll find something useful.
    You'll find the README.TXT file in /apex/utilities directory. Read it.
    In order to use APEXExport, you need JDK version 1.5 or higher. Check your version by typing (and viewing the result):
    C:\>java –version
    java version "1.6.0_06"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_06-b02)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 10.0-b22, mixed mode, sharing)Its directory should be part of the PATH environment variable: on my computer, directory name isC:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_06\binFurthermore, Oracle JDBC class libraries must be part of the CLASSPATH environment variable. Check whether it exists (in Control Panel - System - Advanced - Environment Variables). For my 10gXE, it is here:C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\jdbc\lib\ojdbc14.jarI couldn't make it work; didn't know that ".\" directory must be entered into CLASSPATH as well (found that information in Arie Geller's book). Therefore, my final CLASSPATH version is:.\;C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\jdbc\lib\ojdbc14.jarOK, setup is done. Now, go to your /apex/utilities directory and, from the command prompt, run (mind the upper case!)java oracle.apex.APEXExportwhich will show a short help.
    I chose to export the whole workspace. In order to do that, I need the workspace ID (got it from Apex's SQL Workshop; that might be a problem as you can't get there, can you? I can't tell how to find that information apart from SQL Workshop, but I'm pretty sure someone, who is much more experienced than me, will know it). OK, here's how you find it:select v('WORKSPACE_ID') from dual;Finally, here's the final step - export:C:\apex\utilities>java oracle.apex.APEXExport -db localhost:1521:xe -user scott -password tiger -workspaceid 1038408092496568The result are fxxx.sql files (where "xxx" represents application number).
    I hope you'll manage to export your applications; basically, nothing special here (except that ".\" directory in the CLASSPATH variable).
    Best of luck!

    Auto-login is one of many potential security risks. Some are more risky than others. For a home setup, this is not major, unless you know that you have a lot of confidential information on the disk. Funnily enough, I've heard a number of cases on these forums where people have been hacked, and it had nothing to do with auto-logins.
