Thanks very much for your reply.
But I can not use because the addChild PopUpManager.addPopUp performs an effect ...

• How to make a frame modal?

Hei guyz,
I'm trying to call a frame from another frame (which should basically act like a dialog, but is not a dialog), how can i make this 'child' frame modal, i.e. once im done with the 'child' frame, the focus has to go back to the 'parent' frame and no other component could be opened while a user is working on the 'child' frame.
Can anyone let me know, how this is possible and is there any other better approach (other than making the child frame, a dialog)?
Thanks in advance.

and is there any other better approach How can we suggest a better approach when we don't know why you rejected a modal dialog.
Based on your requirement:
once im done with the 'child' frame, the focus has to go back to the 'parent' frame and no other component could be opened while a user is working on the 'child' frame.
it would appear to me that using an modal dialog is the obvious choice.
Otherwise I suggest you search the forum. Keywords like "modal jframe" would be a good place to start.

how to make another modal popup window in a modal popup window?
two modal windows must be made by inheritance of JDialog.

the jdialog has constructors where you can set another jdialog as owner. (the same as frame)

• How to make a modal frame?

Hello!
My problem is quite simple, but I don't know how to make some MODAL frames (JFrame I mean). In my application, the user can open a same frame even if this frame is already opened and that's not really good.
So, I want the user to close the frame before opening another one.
Can anyone explain me how to do that?

Generally your actionListener will be an internal class of your main frame class. Usually an anonymous internal class. That means it can act on variables in the frame (which is the sensible place to keep the flags).
Something like:
class Class1 extends JDesktop {
boolean itsOpen = false;
openAction.setActionListener(new ActionListener(){
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
if(!itsOpen) {
itsOpen = true;
openAction.setEnabled(false);
MyInternalFrame newFrame = new MyInternalFrame(Class1.this, ....);
add(newFrame);
});You do need some way for the internal frame to act on the variables in the main frame. There are various ways of achieving this.
If we're dealing with a genuine InternalFrame there's a special InternalFrameListener (?) which allows your main frame to listen for the window closing. You can use this instead of hacking the dispose method.
If you're main frame is a JDeskTop then you can use getDesktop() in your internal frame to access it, then cast the result to the real class of your desktop.
Our you can simply add a pointer to your class1 to the contructor of your internal frame class.
You could even get clever and create your own listener system.

aoa Friends i am trying to make a application using jframe with jdesktoppane and jinternal frame.is there any body who can guide me through that :
how to make a jinternal frame a modal frame so that if a new jinternalform is opened than the previous one could not be accessed and if new one is closed then we can use that form.

Hi,
I know thats possible through JNI by making calling to the native operating system. I dont know how to do that. If you could give any idea, or sample code, that would be great. Thanks very much....

• How to make the new Array start at the same position as the previous and randomise only the newObjec

So i am currently trying to make 5 boxes/ships (3Blue and 2 Green)appear in a random position(1st-Gree,2nd- Blue,3rd-blue,4th-Green,5th-Green or in some other random way) i the upper corner of the stage.Make them move down.Then make a new 5 boxes and position them in the same starting position as the previous 5 and make only them get randomised (not with the previous 5,what it is doing at the moment).And do this while they are moving down. so the code so far i have is this :
import flash.events.Event;
var shipCount:Number;
var shipCount2:Number;
var shipArray:Array = new Array();
var shipArrayPosition:Array = new Array();
var counter:int = 0
var positionsX:Array = ["50","100","150","200","250",]
addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, everyFrame)
function everyFrame(ev:Event):void{
counter++
if(counter % 70 == 0){
doShips()
positionShips()
trace(shipArray.length )
function doShips() {
shipCount = 3;
shipCount2 = 2;
var gap = 10;
for (var i:int = 0; i < shipCount; i++) {
var s = new Ship;
shipArray.push(s);
//s.x = s.width/2 + (s.width* i) + gap*i
//addChild(s)
//shipArrayPosition.push(s);
for (var j:int = 0; j < shipCount2; j++) {
s = new Ship2;
shipArray.push(s);
var array:Array=new Array();
while (shipArray.length>0) {
var index:uint = Math.floor(Math.random() * shipArray.length);
array.push(shipArray[index]);
shipArray.splice(index,1);
shipArray = array;
//shipsArray has been randomized
for (var k:int = shipArray.length - 1; k >= 0; k--) {
shipArray[k].x = positionsX[k]
addChild(shipArray[k])
function positionShips() {
for (var i:int = shipArray.length - 1; i >= 0; i--) {
shipArray[i].moveDown() //what the code in the Ship and Ship2 class does -> only: this.y += 3
and how to make them stay at one position.Not to move in any X position when the new 5 are added

This one is more efficient yet because it removes ships that moved out of view:
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.events.Event;
var numShips:int = 5;
var shipCount:int = 3;
var shipArray:Vector.<Sprite> = new Vector.<Sprite>();
var counter:int = 0
var positionsX:Array = [];
init();
function init():void
// populate positions
for (var i:int = numShips - 1; i >= 0; i--)
positionsX.push(50 * i);
addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, everyFrame);
function everyFrame(e:Event):void
counter++
if (counter % 70 == 0)
doShips();
positionShips();
trace(shipArray.length);
function doShips():void
var gap = 10;
var s:MovieClip;
var shipsLine:Sprite = new Sprite();
shipsLine.cacheAsBitmap = true;
addChild(shipsLine);
shipArray.push(shipsLine);
shuffle(positionsX);
for (var i:int = numShips - 1; i >= 0; i--)
s = i < shipCount ? new Ship() : new Ship2();
s.x = positionsX[i] + gap;
shipsLine.addChild(s);
shipsLine.y = -shipsLine.height;
function shuffle(a:Array):void
for (var i:int = a.length - 1; i >= 0; i--)
var r:int = Math.floor(Math.random() * (i + 1));
var t:Object = a[r];
a[r] = a[i];
a[i] = t;
function positionShips():void

if (shipLine.y > stage.stageHeight + shipLine.height)

You are right in the fact of the programmer must make a exit mechanism. However, this is not a bug, this feature is related to the management of this windows type (modal). Bye

• How to make modifier keys lockable? (like Caps Lock for Ctrl or Alt)

Playing around with the non-modal text editor ne, I found myself wondering if one could simulate a modal interface (like vim has) by having something like "Ctrl Lock" or "Alt Lock" (analogous to Caps Lock) and thus a "ctrl mode"/"alt mode". I would like to try this, but I am not sure how to make it happen.
My best guess is that this could be accomplished via XKB, but its documentation looks pretty intimidating. Is anyone here proficient in XKB and could point me in the right direction?
Other ideas:
– Is this something that a terminal emulator could do? Is there already one that can do it?
– Or a shell?
– For console applications, would it be possible to have a small wrapper that did nothing but intercept keyboard input and just pass everything through to the wrapped process, except that it would take into account the desired lockable modifier key? (I am thinking of tput here, but from my first search it appears that it doesn't do this sort of thing.)

@Trilby: Thank you for the elaborate input!
@drcouzelis: "sticky keys" normally means that modifiers remain active only until the next keypress, while I want a way to lock them in active state for an arbitrary number of keypresses. But still, "sticky keys" was a worthwile input for the search engine.
The program xkbset, which can be used to set XKB options on the fly, has a function that comes very close to what I desire:
$ xkbset h
Usage: To set or unset various options:
xkbset <options>
where <options> may be all or any of (the '-' switches the feature off,
otherwise it is switched on):
To switch sticky keys on or off, and optionally set or reset:
() two keys pressed at the same time stops sticky keys;
() a modifier pressed twice will be locked:
[-]{sticky|st} [[-]twokey|[-]latchlock]...
I cannot select specific modiers to be affected with xkbset, but that would be fine with me. Sadly, it didn't completely work for me:
– It doesn't affect Alt at all for me.
– The effect seems to go away as soon as I change the window. (Maybe I need to invoke xkbset from .xinitrc for its effects to persist throughout the session? I will try that.)
So I went on and tried to configure XKB manually. I got up to a certain point without studying the documentation in-depth, but now I have landed on an error message that seems to suggest to me that I would have to get to a better understanding about the layout files before I could understand it. Here is what I did:
1. Got my current XKB configuration:
xkbcomp :0 output.xkb
2. Editet output.xkb to include the following at the end of the xkb_compatibility section:
//Hoping this makes the ^-key into a Ctrl-Lock key:
interpret TLDE {
action= LockMods(modifiers=Control);
3. Then I recompiled the configuration back into the running X server:
$ xkbcomp out.xkb :0

The "Error" part is where I am currently stuck. It tells me that my changes were ignored (I no that it's about them because it goes away when I comment them out), but I don't yet understand why.

• How to make a Struts message null after used in JSP?

Hi,
In the context of Struts/JSP,
An action class might write error messages by
ActionError msg = new ActionError("msg.request.something");
ActionErrors msgs = new ActionErrors();
msgs.add(ActionErrors.GLOBAL_ERROR,msg);
saveErrors(request,msgs);
This message will produce a popup modal window by the following JSP code:
<logic:messagesPresent>
<html:messages id="error">

</html:messages>
</logic:messagesPresent>
The problem is that this JSP page is shared by serveral actions: when another action invoke this page again, the previous error message will take effect again.
So my question is how to make message null after used once by its author.
Thx.
PY

msgs = null;

• How to make enable UI elements Check box

IWDCheckBox cb1 = (IWDCheckBox)view.createElement (IWDCheckBox.class,optdetials[1]);
cb1.setText(optdetials[2]);
root.addChild(cb1);
Now my problem is how to make this check box enable.
and aslo tell me how to create Radio button dynamically.
Thanks
Ravi

Hi Ravi,
Go through the following
https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/webdynpro/developing%20web%20dynpro%20user%20interfaces.pdf
Follow the below steps:
1. Create a ValueAttribute "ChkGroup" and following valueattributes under the above valueattribute
check (boolean)
text  (string)
2. Type the following in init() method
IPrivate<<VIEW>>.IChkGroupElement ele=wdContext.createChkGroupElement();
ele.setCheck(true);
ele.setText("1");
wdContext.nodeChkGroup().addElement(ele);
IPrivate<<VIEW>>.IChkGroupElement ele1=wdContext.createChkGroupElement();
ele1.setCheck(true);ele1.setText("11");
wdContext.nodeChkGroup().addElement(ele1);
3. Write the following in wdDoModifyView() method
IWDCheckBoxGroup grp1=(IWDCheckBoxGroup)view.createElement(IWDCheckBoxGroup.class,null);
grp1.bindTexts("ChkGroup.text");
grp1.bindEnabled("ChkGroup.check");
<<Container>>.addChild(grp1);

• How to make a copy of an instance of a class?

Hi,
If I create a somethingk like a datagrid and filled it with data during runtime, and then I would like to display the datagrid in another place at the same time. So how to make a copy of the datagrid with the data filled?
Thanks.

Hi webvalue, do you wish to display the same data that this DataGrid is using? If so just create a new DataGrid instance and give it the same data as its dataProvider. For example the code below uses two DataGrids that both consume the same data:

<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
layout="absolute"
applicationComplete="init(event)">
<mx:Script>

[Bindable]
private var _dp        :Array;
private function init(e:Event):void
_dp = [
{label:"FlashGen.Com", data:"http://www.flashgen.com"},
{label:"Adobe", data:"http://www.adobe.com"},
{label:"Flex.org", data:"http://www.flex.org"},

</mx:Script>
<mx:Panel x="10" y="10" width="600" height="207" layout="absolute" title="Multiple DataGrids using the same data source">
<mx:DataGrid id="dg2" dataProvider="{_dp}"  left="0" top="0" bottom="0" width="50%"/>
<mx:DataGrid id="dg1" dataProvider="{_dp}" right="0" bottom="0" width="50%" top="0"/>
</mx:Panel>
</mx:Application>
Cloning a DataGrid component doesn't seem to be the right solution given the information you have provided. If you wanted to reuse the DataGrid in a separate view you could always reparent it to the new view by removing it from the current views displaylist and adding it to the new views displaylist like the example below illustrates, here I'm moving the DataGrid (dg) from one Panel component (dghost) to another (dghost2):

<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
layout="absolute"
applicationComplete="init(event)">
<mx:Script>

[Bindable]
private var _dp        :Array;
private function init(e:Event):void
_dp = [
{label:"FlashGen.Com", data:"http://www.flashgen.com"},
{label:"Adobe", data:"http://www.adobe.com"},
{label:"Flex.org", data:"http://www.flex.org"},
private function moveDataGrid(e:MouseEvent):void
dghost.removeChild(dg);
dghost2.addChild(dg);

</mx:Script>
<mx:Panel id="dghost" x="10" y="10" width="300" height="207" layout="absolute" title="DataGrids original parent container">
<mx:DataGrid id="dg" dataProvider="{_dp}" right="0" bottom="0" top="0" left="0"/>
<mx:ControlBar>
<mx:Button label="Move DataGrid" click="moveDataGrid(event)"/>
</mx:ControlBar>
</mx:Panel>
<mx:Panel id="dghost2" x="10" y="225" width="300" height="207" layout="absolute" title="DataGrids original parent container">
</mx:Panel>
</mx:Application>
While you could clone the DataGrid, when dealing with display objects it's often easier to reparent them as you are only moving it from one view to another; this has the added benefit of saving on memory as you still only have the original instance of the DataGrid not that instance and a new "cloned" instance.
I hope that helps provide additional options beyond just cloning
regards

• How do I create a Modal JDialog (non-bypassable when visible)?

After customising a JDialog, I found that it is basically ignored after it has been created, by the main program. I've tried many ways to stop this from happening, searched the Java tutorial and googled it, but cannot find out how to do so. I have used the constructor for a modal Dialog:
JDialog(Dialog owner, String title, boolean modal)However, my methods are still treated like a non-modal Dialog, as they are ignored. Is there a certain method I have to call to make this Dialog modal (not able to be bypassed when made visible). If so then I would appreciate it if anybody could help, or perhaps point me along the right way.

JDialog(Dialog owner, String title, boolean modal)How do you expect us to solve your problem based on a single line of code? Create a simple demo program that shows the problem
Here is a simple demo that works.
import javax.swing.*;
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
public class DialogModal extends JFrame implements ActionListener
public DialogModal()
JButton button = new JButton("Show Dialog");
button.addActionListener( this );
getContentPane().add( button );
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
JDialog dialog = new JDialog(this, "Modal Test", true);
dialog.setSize(300, 300);
dialog.show();
public static void main(String[] args)
JFrame frame = new DialogModal();
frame.setDefaultCloseOperation( JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE );
frame.pack();
frame.setLocationRelativeTo( null );
frame.setVisible(true);
}

• How to make it selected when clicked and open popup

Hi,
I 've a form in the parent page with many form elements.
I've 2 radio buttons with values "Yes" and "No". I am opening a modal popup when clicked on "Yes" radio button. The modal popup is opening fine.
But when I click "Yes", it' s not selected. After modal popup is closed, when I return to parent page, the option "Yes" is still not selected.
How to make it selected when clicked and open popup?

Perhaps try moving the application to your preferred desktop and then right-click it's dock icon > options > Assign to This Desktop.
