How to make a modal frame?

My problem is quite simple, but I don't know how to make some MODAL frames (JFrame I mean). In my application, the user can open a same frame even if this frame is already opened and that's not really good.
So, I want the user to close the frame before opening another one.
Can anyone explain me how to do that?

Generally your actionListener will be an internal class of your main frame class. Usually an anonymous internal class. That means it can act on variables in the frame (which is the sensible place to keep the flags).
Something like:

   });You do need some way for the internal frame to act on the variables in the main frame. There are various ways of achieving this.
If we're dealing with a genuine InternalFrame there's a special InternalFrameListener (?) which allows your main frame to listen for the window closing. You can use this instead of hacking the dispose method.
If you're main frame is a JDeskTop then you can use getDesktop() in your internal frame to access it, then cast the result to the real class of your desktop.
Our you can simply add a pointer to your class1 to the contructor of your internal frame class.
You could even get clever and create your own listener system.

How to make keyboard modal?

I have a bunch of text edit fields. When the user clicks on one of them the keyboard comes up. But they can touch on another field before they click the DONE button on the keyboard, then they might be editing two fields. I am currently closing off the edit when another one opens up but is there a simpler way, to make the keyboard entry modal so that no other touches can happen until then?

Yes, absolutely. There is no limitation as to how many components a JDialog can contain.

- the parent JFrame or JDialog,
- whether the current JDialog is modal
- its title.
Then you add components the same than for a JFrame : setContentPane(a Container) or getContentPane().add(...).

How to make awt modal dialog to NOT appear on top of existing windows

I am working on a program that displays awt modal dialog box when it needs some action from the user. My problem is that the modal dialog box cann't be top window as there is one VC++ window that needs to be always top window. Another requirement I must satisfay is that there should not be any flickling. I've tried with setAlowaysOnTop(false), dialog.toBack(), transferFocus(), etc but with no avail. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

How can I control modal dialogs in Applescript without a mouse?

I am trying to use a Griffin PowerMate button to select between two options in an Applescript modal dialog and cannot seem to figure out how to do this. I can set a default button, but I want the user to select between two options (shifting the highlighted button) via the PowerMate. Does anyone have a suggestion?
I can program the PowerMate to send/emulate a particular keystroke, but I do not know how to make the standard Applescript dialog respond to a keystroke, only a mouse action. I'm trying to create a mouseless interface.
In short, I want the dialog respond to "Twist to the left and press the button to select A, Twist to the right and press the button to select B." Thoughts?

Your System Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts > Full Keyboard Access preference will need to be set to "all controls", but it also depends on where the particular button is located in the dialog. The tab key will highlight the buttons from left to right, shift-tab will highlight the buttons from right to left, and the spacebar will "press" the currently highlighted button. In addition, the escape key will choose the Cancel button (if there is one), and the return key will choose the default button (if a default has been set the button itself will be lit).

How to make modifier keys lockable? (like Caps Lock for Ctrl or Alt)

Playing around with the non-modal text editor ne, I found myself wondering if one could simulate a modal interface (like vim has) by having something like "Ctrl Lock" or "Alt Lock" (analogous to Caps Lock) and thus a "ctrl mode"/"alt mode". I would like to try this, but I am not sure how to make it happen.
My best guess is that this could be accomplished via XKB, but its documentation looks pretty intimidating. Is anyone here proficient in XKB and could point me in the right direction?
Other ideas:
– Is this something that a terminal emulator could do? Is there already one that can do it?
– Or a shell?
– For console applications, would it be possible to have a small wrapper that did nothing but intercept keyboard input and just pass everything through to the wrapped process, except that it would take into account the desired lockable modifier key? (I am thinking of tput here, but from my first search it appears that it doesn't do this sort of thing.)

@drcouzelis: "sticky keys" normally means that modifiers remain active only until the next keypress, while I want a way to lock them in active state for an arbitrary number of keypresses. But still, "sticky keys" was a worthwile input for the search engine.
The program xkbset, which can be used to set XKB options on the fly, has a function that comes very close to what I desire:
$ xkbset h

where <options> may be all or any of (the '-' switches the feature off,
otherwise it is switched on):
To switch sticky keys on or off, and optionally set or reset:
() two keys pressed at the same time stops sticky keys;

I cannot select specific modiers to be affected with xkbset, but that would be fine with me. Sadly, it didn't completely work for me:
– It doesn't affect Alt at all for me.
– The effect seems to go away as soon as I change the window. (Maybe I need to invoke xkbset from .xinitrc for its effects to persist throughout the session? I will try that.)
So I went on and tried to configure XKB manually. I got up to a certain point without studying the documentation in-depth, but now I have landed on an error message that seems to suggest to me that I would have to get to a better understanding about the layout files before I could understand it. Here is what I did:
1. Got my current XKB configuration:

The "Error" part is where I am currently stuck. It tells me that my changes were ignored (I no that it's about them because it goes away when I comment them out), but I don't yet understand why.

I am not sure that I have the best way to create modal windows in the first place.
I have a TitleWindow which is hidden, and when I want to display it I make it visible and add it to thePopUpManager.
For example here I have an "importing" window which is visible while the application imports some stuff:

Yes, but not as easily as you can make a normal window resizeable (AFAIK). You would need to handle it all yourself by adding a resize area with listeners, etc.

How to make it selected when clicked and open popup

I 've a form in the parent page with many form elements.
I've 2 radio buttons with values "Yes" and "No". I am opening a modal popup when clicked on "Yes" radio button. The modal popup is opening fine.
But when I click "Yes", it' s not selected. After modal popup is closed, when I return to parent page, the option "Yes" is still not selected.
How to make it selected when clicked and open popup?

Perhaps try moving the application to your preferred desktop and then right-click it's dock icon > options > Assign to This Desktop.

I was able copy the hardrive of my old macbook from "My Passport" onto the desktop on an older iMac. but i dont know how to make my hardrive and user name be the main one since someone had used it in the past and had their info on the comp. please help!

I recently broke my 2008 macbook. i was able to use an external hardrive to back up my data onto My Passport. I was going to buy a new computer but a friend told me sher had an older version of the iMac. (not sure how old but it doesnt have a camera if that helps) i was able to hook it up and turn it on but i ran into a few problems. 1) the "authentic" user or whatever it says is someone who previously used the computer. i added me as a user but im not sure how to make me the main user. 2) after hooking up My Passport, i was able to drag my files and copy them to the desktop.(i think i did it correctly) now, i dont know how to make my hard drive and applications and iformation the "main " info. The current apps on the iMac are super old versions of iTunes and iPhoto and such. 3) while trying to open the apps from my macbook on the iMac, it said it didnt have the right software to open these apps.
I am so computer illiterate so someone please help!!! Also, i do not have internet in my new apartment yet so if there is a way to make this happen without using the internet that would be preferred. sorry for the horrible spelling and poorly written paragraph.

You are not going to be able to run your old system from the backup on this old computer as the hardware is incompatible.

The above code executes well with no problem at all!
As you can see the file to which i create and save and open my pdf report is
AssignedDialyzer.pdf.
The column headers of table in pdf report from c# windows forms using iTextSharp are
"Reprocessing Date","Patient Name","Dialyzer(Manufacturer,Size)","No.of Reuse","Verification" and
"DialyzerID".
However the problem i am facing is after execution and opening of document is my
column headers in table in pdf report from
c# and datas in it all appear in bold.
I have browsed through net regarding to solve this problem but with no success.
What i want is my pdf report from c# should be similar to following format which i was able to accomplish in vb6,adodb with MS access using iTextSharp.:

I am new to website design and am trying to figure out how to make downloadable links for some PDF flyers, PSD templates I am creating. Not sure if "downloadable links" is the correct term for what I'm trying to say but in a nutshell I am creating Business Flyer's in PDF form and Photoshop PSD template files that I would like to be able to have my users click a link that allows them to download them right to their desktop. Any help would really be appreciated!
