How to make a "growing" arrow

I am trying to make a "growing" arrow:
A small arrow: -------> would extend to
-------------------------------->
I tried with shape tweening and shape hints and it works
fine. The problem is, if I try to duplicate the layer to use my
arrow elsewhere (in another movie), I loose the shape hints. It
looks like shape hints are not attached to the shape but rather to
the scene.
I feel like I am trying to reinvent the wheel. Is there a
simple way to do this?

Hi isouaga,
you can put the animation in a movie clip and then just
duplicate the movie clip. Hope that this helps.

We need to make the fields in a page grow column wise within that same page.
For example, in a page:

Hi Gurunath, if you steel need a solution on this problem, I think this could help:
1- place two fields on the form (JF01, JF02), one under each other.
2- Make two subform with them (Sline1, Sline2)
3- Make the field JF02 expand on same subform.
4- Modify the preamble in this way:
^define group:D_line1 \field$POSITION\reserve"0.333",in\subformSline1.\positionsave,"first_line"
^define group:JF01!OnOverflow \groupG_Sline2.\fieldJF02.
^define group:G_Sline2!OnBOF \positionrestore,"first_line"\positionright,"3.65",in
In the data file put all the text in JF01.
-The first line say:
When JF01 is called, save it's y position (\positionsave,"first_line")
-The second line means:
when the text overflow JF01 put it in JF02.
(cause JF02 overflow on itself all the remaining data is overflowed in JF02)
-The third line means:
if JF02 arrives at the end of the page (OnBOF), restore the saved position ( \positionrestore,"first_line") and move to the right of "3,65" inches (\positionright,"3.65",in).
In other words, when JF02 arrive at the and of the age, the next field JF02 is positioned at the same height of JF01 and is shifted on the right
Take care that in this way JF02 cannot anymore go o a new page.

Very quick and dirty implementation in attachment. Uses it as starting point.
With Picture control you may get more flexibility, but need more programming (muse Enter/Leave/Move, etc)
With Slider - a little bit more easy (I will recommend this way for you)

Correct, that's a matter of using Paths (pen tool). However, there are a couple ways to go about it.
If you want a simple outlined head...
1) Draw a curved path, deselect it, then draw an angled path for the arrow head. Select both Paths and Stroke them using a brush that's the width/size you want your lines to be.
If you want a solid triangular shaped head...
2) Use the Line tool and set the Options to use the "Vector Shape Layer" setting (1st icon button on the far left of the bar).
In the Line tool settings also, open the Geometry Options menu and set your line to have an arrow head at the end of it.
Now draw a straight line, that starts and ends where you want your arrow to start and end.
Zoom in close on the middle of the line.
With the Pen tool selected, hold down the ALT key and click on one side of the line. Then click again on the opposite side of the line. This adds 2 new nodes to your path.
Hold the Ctrl key down and drag out a selection around these 2 new nodes. Then while still holding the Ctrl key, click-&-drag either of the nodes in the direction you want your arrow line to bend.
Click outside the shape to deselect it.
Now hold the Ctrl key again and drag out a selection around the 3 corner points on the solid arrow head (tip and both side corner).
Press Ctrl+T. Click-&-drag on the outside of the Distortion square to rotate your head so it's better aligned to your arrow line. Press the Enter key to apply, then deselect the path nodes. You now have 2 types of fully editable curved arrow lines.

How to make curved arrows from circle?

Hi, I want to make four curved arrows that lead into each other. Ideally, arrow head would just be a > shape at the end of the line that is the same width as the line (i.e., as if a straight line was cut at the end, so no tips or gaps.) Point 3: That is how I managed to get my 8 segments. Basically, if you centered you cursor in the middle of the circle and set the rotation of the arrows (in my instance 40 degrees) - Command D and then it duplicates the arrows all around the circle accurately.
You are welcome, Neil, and no need to apologize.
You may have a look at the link by Jeanette in post #4; it shows end results.
Here are the instructions in the first post with an extension of 3):
1) Create the circle with the desired width in the form of Stroke Weight;
2) Create a V shaped path with two segments on top of the circle where the first gap is to be, lengthwise extending outside the circle stroke, and with a Stroke Weight corresponding to the gap;
3) Copy and place so you have all V shapes where you want the gaps; you may do that by rotating copies round the centre of the circle 1), this may be done in different ways, one being to create an auxliary concentric circle extending past the V shape and rotating copies of that and the V shape using the Object>Transform>Rotate and inserting the desired value(s), then deleting the auxiliary circles;
4) Select all and Object>Path>Outline Stroke;
5) Pathfinder>Minus front (Subtract from shape ares in older versions, maybe pressing Alt/Option to expand).

I know how to make an arrow, but I'm not having much luck putting color into the arrow.
When I choose any colors in the color picker box then click OK, the color shows as dark gray, and not the color I've selected.

Custom Shape tool in the Tools bar on the left.
Click on an arrow in the Shape box on the top.
Mode: Threshold
Opacity: 100%
I don't know what I did, but I opened another file and tried to get a colored arrow. Now I can get color in the Color Picker, but the color of the arrow shows up as gray when I drag the shape onto the picture, and not a red color that's in the foreground color box.
Does it make a difference if the files are jpeg or gif?
I just noticed that the arrow I was trying to color was on a gif file. I changed the gif into a jpeg and now I can make colored arrows.
On the jpeg, I made a red arrow (yay!) and it still has a 3D look, with a shadow underneath. How do I get the arrow to look more flat with no shadow. I did Layer > Flatten Image but that didn't take away the shadow.

How to make curved arrows (arcs) with known angles

I need to be able to make many curved arrows with known angles. Meaning, I need the arrows line/tail to start at a certain point and the arrow head to end at another, but angled to 45, 60, and 90 degress from the start point. Similar to this:
As you can see, the arrows all point "out of the arc" at the same angle. Is there a set the angle of the arrow heads?

Howdy.
If you turn your arrow into an art brush, then apply it to the different paths, the arrowhead will follow the path.
The top arrow is one I grabbed from Illy's Arrow Brush Library. It is applied to two different paths that end pointing different directions. Note the arrowhead turns to follow the path.
This might work for you. And it's a snap to apply the brush to any open path.
Illy will render the brush as you draw the path or you can apply it later.

do I have to convert my image to gif first?
do you have any tutorial for this so please show me.

The JPEG format does not support animation, so if you want to add a moving arrow to a map, you'd need to make an animated GIF or a Flash movie.
If your map is a large image, then adding the frames to make an animated GIF could make very big file and that wouldn't be good. Another thing to keep in mind is that a JPEG image can have millions of colors but an animated GIF can only have 256. If your map is a line art (a drawing), then usually the GIF or PNG formats give you a better result, anyway as the JPEG format introduces noise and color shifts which are normally not noticed on photographs.

In your case, you would share your map across the frames and each new frame would have a different arrow on it.

When I delete a photo from a page, it does not stay in the assets panel. My client uses in browser editing daily. Once a week he changes a photo just for a day, then needs the previous photo to replace it. The original photo is not in the asset panel (or folder) for him to choose.
When you upload a photo, it has an arrow in the asset panel. How do you use this as an asset?

Sure ... right mouse click on your page and choose 'Exclude Page from Menus' :-)

Experiment with different painting styles. Use a variety of brush stroke effects to create different looks.
1. After selecting the "Make a Painting" tutorial, press "Begin Tutorial" to start. Tap Adjustments > Saturation.

8. For an abstract brush effect, enter these values: Jitter= 100%, Size= 30%, Length=138%. Tap OK.
Tip: To enter the percentage by number instead of using the slider, tap the value field to open the keyboard editor.
9. Tap the target on the top layer to unhide it and decide which effect you like best.
Tip: To delete an unwanted layer, choose the layer in the layers panel. Tap Layer options > Delete layer to remove the layer.
10. Tap the back arrow in the top options bar. This will prompt you to save. Press Save to save your project.

These are not generic wiggle or bounce effects. I have a bunch of expressions that I use to add bounce to a move. I think that's what's going on here. They help a lot. I have created a personal library of these custom effects and saved them as animation presets. Lots of them are based on the in and out point of a layer so there's no keyframing involved at all. I just create a text layer, position it where I want it to end up and apply my fly in from the left and drop out preset. I then adjust the in and out point of the layer and I'm ready to move on to the next part.
Click here for my fly in bounce drop out preset. Save it to your AE User Effects and presets library, and try applying it to a 2 second long text layer. Adjust the look with the sliders. When you build something you like learn how to save it as a preset and you will be well on your way to building a library of tools that will save you a ton of time. I've got more than 200 of these just for motion and the list grows with every project.

Right now, clicking in an open tab and using arrow keys now moves through the open tabs. I liked the old versions where right after clicking in a tab you could directly go to navigate the page with the arrow keys.
Is there a something I can change in about:config to change this behavior?

Firefox should still set the focus the the browser area if you click a tab.<br />
Only with very old browser versions you could set the focus to a tab by clicking a tab.
This behavior is likely caused by an extension.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
