Ohhh, so you thought you were going to answer that question? Well I already know the answer, i.e. all the tricks with the jar files or the programs which convert java programs into executable programs.
The reason why I asked this question was to start a discussion concerning question which are frequently asked in the forums. Wouldn�t it be nice to have like statistics over the most faq here, and of course one or several pages with the answers to these questions? This would solve 2 problems:
1) The person who wants to ask the question can find the answer and the solution quickly.
2) The forums would not be packed with the same questions all the time.
I mean, you must admit that the questions regarding �exe files� are asked a lot of times.

I tried to make jar file using Runtime.exec method . The filenames have spaces in it .So i gave the filenames in double quotes.It works fine with windows and also from the command prompt.But when i run the same code in unix box , it creates a jar file with no content.Pls give some solution. There are different approaches to this.
If you're trying to block a single executable that you're familiar with you can disable it from a GPO using the setting:
User Configuration/Administrative Templates/System/Don't run specified Windows applications
Another option is to specify only the applications you want to allow Using:
User Configuration/Administrative Templates/System/Run only specified Windows applications
This one would probably take a lot of work to populate for a system with many applications installed or for a corporate environment.
None of the two mentioned settings takes into account that a user can name their exe file what they want so renaming mydangerousapp.exe to explorer.exe would make it a perfectly legitimate executable.
A more robust and managable way of securing your systems by controlling which applications that can be launched is Software Restriction Policies.

How to run .exe files with Virtual PC for Mac

Hey Guys, I'm new around here and with mac technology as well. Anyway, I have an iMac OS X 10.5.1 Leopard and I've recently purchased the Virtual PC for Mac 7.0.2 software. So I'd like to know how to use this program properly, because I need to run some executable files in my computer. It is confusing for me because I don't know how to get started, and I only get to the part when it says "OS not found, Install an OS on this hard drive".
Honestly I've no idea of what an OS is or where do I get that. So I'd really appreciate if one of you guys could tell me, step by step, what to do to use Virtual PC properly, and finally learn how to run .exe files on mac.

This brings up the second part of your problem. The first part is setting up either a proper Virtual Machine program like Parallels or VMfusion, or setting up a Boot Camp partition on your drive.

OS stands for Operating System. You are running Leopard 10.5.7 as an operating system on your Mac (MacOS X).
The second part of your problem - You will need a copy of Windows XP or Vista if you want to run Windows on your Mac.
There is at least one other solution for running Windows programs on a Mac. It's called "CrossOver" by a company named 'Codeweavers'. It's based on a project for "Wine" to be able to run PC programs on a Mac or Linux, without having to buy or install Windows. It works with a narrow subset of Windows programs so you would want to make sure the program you want to run is compatible with CrossOver before you buy it.

In addition to all the above information, you need to upgrade your Mac to the latest 10.5.7 from 10.5.1. "Software Update" is located under the black Apple icon in the Menu Bar at the top left corner of your monitor. With your level of experience with MacOS X and the Windows OS's you should probably get some help from a local Apple store. I note from your system details that you have the plugin for adobe pdf s so I would have expected the files should open in firefox '''without''' you needing to explicitly download them.
Once the files are open in firefox, you will also get the option to save them permanently to a location on your computer. If you wish I suppose you could set the file type pdf to be associated with and be opened by firefox instead of with the Adobe Acrobat Reader, but that would just seem to be an additional complexity.

Make sure iTunes prefs > Import settings is set to AAC.
In iTunes, find the song you want and note the start/stop time you want the ring tone.
Right click - get info, click the Options tab and set the start/stop times as above. (Note a 30 second max for ringtones)
Right click - Create AAC version. This creates a new file.
Drag this new file from the iTunes window to the desktop.
Delete the new file from iTunes and also select Delete from hard drive.
On the desktop, rename the file to what_ever_you_want.m4r (first part you can change to whatever you want & change the extension to .m4r).
Drag the file back to the iTunes library at top left.
Make sure iTunes prefs > General has Tones ticked.
