How to make green the default layer colour?

With no documents open, the layers panel is blank. How can I therefore access it? I have alot of pmd files I now open in cs4, but need a green default layer. I'm beginning to think this cannot be done. Any thoughts? please and thanks

How to make Firefox the default browser for Hotmail

I recently uninstalled Safari because I want to use Firefox as my default browser. Previously when I click the Mail button in Windows Live Messenger, the mac would automatically open my hotmail in Safari. Now that I have uninstalled it, when I click on the Mail button, it opens up with TextEdit. How do I make it open with Firefox?

OK I'll post there also but I'm aware of the preferences section in Safari... thing is, when I choose to make Firefox the default browser, it resets back to Safari when I turn off the computer and turn it back on. Everytime. And it does my head in
I heard of a program called More Internet that I heard could help slove the problem but I can't understand how to use it, nor is there any forum or any way to contact anyone who knows. It's driving me up the wall.
So I'm hoping there's another way that someone in the world knows.

I just installed PSE12 and want it to be the default program to open my jpg files. I know how to set defaults on a PC but the program does not even come up on the list of defaults. I've tried right-click on image and "open with" but no PSE12. If I use Browse and follow the path Program Files (x86)/Adobe/PSE12/PSE Editor.exe, there is no exe file, only the application. If I select PSE Editor, it does not make it the default.

You can associate the file type to PSE. For example on my system I have associated Corel program for JPG files (because of 64 bit requirement for me) but you can associate PSE by clicking on Change Program Icon button as shown in this picture (click on it to magnify it):

I successfully imported 5 or 6 mini discs from the video camera, then on the next download attempt I saw a pop-up box. The box said something like "what program do you want as the default for downloading?" I was thinking iMovie, but apparently clicked iTunes (too many iTerms), and now when I put the camera into PC CONNECT mode, iMovie won't start up as it had before. If you are talking about having the default be Hebrew-Qwerty, then just make sure that in system preferences/language & text/input sources you have only one box checked, the one for Hebrew-Qwerty.
There is also an opportunity to choose this during initial setup, you have to click on a button to have it show you all the keyboard options, I can't remember.

I belong to a photo sharing site where I upload photos. When I click "browse" at the site, iPhoto automatically opens and I can select and upload my photo. A friend with a new Mac does the same thing - clicks "browse," but iPhoto doesn't open. I think she needs to somehow make iPhoto her default, but I can't figure out how to do that.

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps. If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later: You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser

I would like to make gmail my default mailto provider in Safari. Gmail Notifier used to take care of this, but since Google removed that program, I haven't figured out a way to do it.
Right now, Safari will start the Mail app when I want click a mailto: link. I don't want to use the Mail app. I'd like to keep everything web-based.

No, this will only allow me to choose a platform based email reader. (mail, outlook, etc)
What I would like to happen is when I click an email link, it uses gmail's web based email system.
This is easy to do with firefox and chrome, and used to be easy to do with Safari using Google Notifier, but that program has been discontinued.
I ready where there used to be a safari extention that would accomplish this, but I can't find it anymore either.
I don't want to stop using Safari, but if I can't send an email simply by clicking the link, I will have to.

Your question about making Word "the default when closing AW documents" is a bit unclear.
An AppleWorks document is an AppleWorks document. If you want it in Word format, you must explicitly save a copy of it as such (and also append the .doc suffix to the proposed file name).

How to make CS3 the default image viewer after reloading CS

I had to reload my CS software and have not been able to use CS3 as the default vile viewer. Now CS is loaded when using the "open" and CS only appears in the "open with list". Obviously I would prefer all Photoshop programes (PS6, 7, etc) to be available, but will settle for the latest (CS3) to open my images. It would seem that because I reloaded CS the OS sees this as the default image\file viewer. Have not been able to find an answer in the forum replies or FAQ's.      Chow, Hydatus.

John, Many thanks for the promp reply. By the way, do you know why PS CS3 wants to only open files in 32 bit. I have probably changed a setting somewhere in preparation for new PC (Vista 64 bit) which I will be networking with 2 X windows XP PC's. CS opens these 8 bit jpgs ok but CS2 and CS3 tell me the docs arent 32 bit?   Looked at PS Image mode and 8/16/32/bit all there and 16bit normally ticked. Sorry to be a pain, but you seem to be on the "Ball" with PS.!!

How to make "none" the default filter on your iPhone camera.

Some users have complained that the default filter of all pictures taken with their iPhone 5 camera has mysteriously changed to one or the other of the various filters available other than "none" (i.e., usual full-color) version they want. I can't find that string again, hence this new item.
I had the same problem, and believe I have solved it this way:
1. Take a picture.
2. Find it the usual way in Photos - Camera Roll. Presumably it's the wrong filter.
3. Click on Edit. Click on the intertwined-color-circles icon at the bottom to reveal all the filters.
4. Scroll over to None and change it to that. Save the picture.
5. Key thing (I think): REBOOT YOUR PHONE. (I happen to do it by pressing the on-off button at the top and the depressed home key at the bottom a the same time; do it however you wish.)
6. When you next shoot a photo, it should be in "None" mode (as the default).
