How to make Visibroker's 'vbjc' use Java 1.3 by modifying the properties fi

Hi,
I am using Visibroker for java 4.0 to develop an application. The
java version that I am using is 1.4.1. Now, the naming service does
not start when I use 1.4.1. And I cannot do away with Java1.4.1
because I am using certain classes in javax.crypto which does not
exist at all in Java 1.3. I am left with the option of trying to
configure the properties file of 'vbjc' in such a way that it uses
Java 1.3 instead of 1.4. How can i do this? Can someone please help me
out?
Thanks in advance,
Shankar.

HI!
you hasn't given more details ;
can you send me the command, by which you r trying to start the Naming service.
As well as send me the error that you are getting , when used jdk1.4.1

Then we're back to (1): Do your own homework. Google has zillions of links on handling files in Java. When you have written some code and have an actual problem, we'll be happy to help you with it.
(edit) Incidentally, this sounds suspiciously like the sort of problem they set for the certification programs. In which case, don't bother; they're not worth the virtual paper they're printed on.

There have been java browsers that have been developed + this is well-documented (at least in one or two texts i've read, i assume on-line too), but they're quite complex + i doubt if someone new to java would be able to customise it without a brain haemorrhage. Tough call!

• How to make jar files run using java.exe and not javaw.exe

Hi ,
I am developing a project in which there is an GUI which inturn will call a console . I have made it into an jar file now.
Here comes the problem. When i run the jar files , i don't get a console. While going through this forum, i came to know that jar runs using javaw.exe and this stops it from bring the console up.
Please suggest me a way of running the jar file through java.exe or any other method by which i can get an new console poping up.
PS : i cannot start the application itself in a system console , because the Console mode is an added feature and it is not to be displayed every time but only when the user intends to.

Thanks for the reply pbrockway2. But i think, i was not able to convey my problem properly.
I am supposed to start my application in a GUI mode ( No console are should be present at this point of time). Within the GUI , i have a option for working in the console ( i.e if console is choosen, then i start giving my output and take inputs from the console. I am trying to do this by just calling the "System.out "and "System.in" methods. )
Here is the problem. As i have started it through " jar " it would not have a associated console with it.
PS: i cannot have launching .bat file because that would result in my application having a console displayed at the very start of the application. I want the console to be displayed only when the user wants to start in console mode.
Please suggest me some ways of doing this. Can i create a console from my java program and then exit it.

• How to make OSX boot disk using a USB thumb drive? The final answer?

Well guys I am getting really conflicting information about possibility to use USB thumb drive for boot up drive for OSX! Some people say yes, some say no, some - not sure.
Here is the question formulated as straight as possible:
A Mac user wants to create OSX 10.6 boot-up disk on a USB thumb drive, so it can be used to start the Mac instead of using manufacturer’s CD. Also, (thumb drive’s size permitting) the Mac user must be able to install software on it, as it is done on the internal HD.
The computer is MacBookPro , Intel based , OSX 10.6
The USB thumb drive is 16 Gb brand new .
So,
what the EXACT steps will be, to properly Mac format the thumb drive with OSX disk utility and then install on it the OSX 10.6 from the manufacturer's grey CD that comes with the Mac?
Could someone, who has practical experience and is absolutely sure about the exact steps provide the final answer, please?
Thanks in advance to old hands & pro Mac Users willing to clarify this topic !

Hi
The instructions to make a bootable USB are [here|http://macs.about.com/od/diyguidesprojects/ss/usbflash.htm]
I have made a bootable USB following the above instruction and also had enough space to install a few utilities. It works fine for me.
I usually like to check disk health of my MBpro intel via disk utilities off the USB after booting from it. Not that this is a recommended way or anything, just that I like to do it that way.

How does one know if they use "java applets"? What do they do? How will I know if I need to 'disable the java web plug-in browser' if I do not use them? (Obviously I'm not very literate in computer-speak.)

Well, when you go to a web page a section of the web page will have a coffee cup picture where the java applet will run. The applet loads then runs. If you are not seeing this behavior then you are not using java. If it make you feel more comfortable then disable the browser java plugin. On my machine I have not disable java- but you
may what to.

• How to ge a hardware id using java?

how to ge a hardware id using java? like cpu id??

Why do you want the CPU code ?
If you could read this using Java, it would fail most of the time, because a great many people are either not running Intel CPUs, or, like me, have the identification number 'feature' turned off.
You'd get along much better if you view the Virtual Machine as the hardware on which you are running. Thus the concept of a CPU, or the 'Operating System' doesn't exist. Not true, but it would save you a great deal of disappointment, and would make your code much more portable. Can your code run on a machine that interprets Java natively in the CPU, for example?

• How to make an icon image using Photoshop

I found out how to do this recently so I decided that I wanted to make a tut for those who don't know how to make an icon image. This icon image is for the libraries tab on your computer. Under the libararies tab there is Music, Pictures, Documents, and Photos
First you will need the ICO (Icon image format) Format extension for photoshop which can be downloaded here:
http://www.telegraphics.com.au/svn/icoformat/trunk/dist/README.html
The download link and tutorial on how to install it is all in the link above.
Once you have that all set you can now launch photoshop to create your icon image. Once you have launched it, create a new document with the size as in the image below.

Create the image you want. I used a simple one by using the custom shape tool by pressing "U" on your keyboard and with the
basic blending options.

The reason why the image is pixelated is because it is an icon image. Since the image is only 256x256 pixels when you zoom in on it that will get you the pixely result. The reason why I zoomed  in is so you can see it. But don't worry this is no the end result. Just continue reading and you will see.
So once you have created the icon go ahead and press
file>save as>(under format choose the ICO)>and choose the name that you want to name it. And save it in your C: drive. You will see why to save it in your C: drive in a sec.

So now that you have created the icon and saved it now you can create the new library.

Name the library whatever you want I named it "Sample" for tutorial purposes. Notice how it gives you a default boring icon image for your library.

So now once you have created and named your library now it is time to get the icon image into place.
Go to computer/c: Drive/users/YOU/ And now once you have reached this area you will need to access a hidden folder named "appdata" to do so press "Alt" then a menu bar will show. Click
tools>folder options>and view. Find the option to view hidden folders then press apply then ok. Now we shall continue so AppData>Roaming>Microsoft>Windows>Libraries
Now you should see all the libraries including the one you just created.

Once you have reached your destination then open a new text document with notepad and drag the library you just created in notepad. The result should look like this:

once you have reached this point click at the end of the second to last line down then press enter and enter in this information
<iconReference>c:\"NAME OF ICO FILE YOU CREATED IN PS".ico</iconReference>
Example:

Once you have entered that information go to file>save and the icon image should appear on the library you created.

Now you are officially finished. Go and spread the news and joy. Bye for now
-Dusty951512

It is Windows only because all those screen shots are exclusively Windows, the file structure and paths do not resemble those of the Mac in the least.  As a Mac user, there's nothing I could take from your tutorial.  Sorry,
No drives named with letters like C: on the Mac, for instance.  No backward slashes either, ever.  No such paths either.  No "Notepad" on the Mac, we use TextEdit; but such a text editor is not remotely needed on the Mac to make and/or edit icons.  Etc.
Those folders are not even called "Libraries" on the Mac…  Nothing resembling your tutorial at all.
The icons in the Finder's Sidebar are not customizable at all in recent version of OS X.

• How to read a text file using Java

Guys,
Good day!
Please help me how to read a text file using Java and create/convert that text file into XML.
Thanks and God Bless.
Regards,
I-Talk

         public void fileRead(){
                 File aFile =new File("myFile.txt");
             BufferedReader input = null;
             try {
               input = new BufferedReader( new FileReader(aFile) );
               String line = null;
               while (( line = input.readLine()) != null){
             catch (FileNotFoundException ex) {
               ex.printStackTrace();
             catch (IOException ex){
               ex.printStackTrace();
         }This code is to read a text file. But there is no such thing that will convert your text file to xml file. You have to have a defined XML format. Then you can read your data from text files and insert them inside your xml text. Or you may like to read xml tags from text files and insert your own data. The file format of .txt and .xml is far too different.

• How to create a packet by using java?

Hi, i am currently working on a research and i have some problems here.
1) how to create a packet by using java programming ?
2) How can i set the packet's information (e.g: packet's length, size of its header, etc) by using java?
I am currently in a midst of this now and i hope that someone is willing to correspond to my questions and help me out of it.
Thank you!

I wan to create a customize packet where the user can
define the header size, the packet's length etc. in
the program......Then you get to write it to the connection yourself. Look at the OutputStream classes to see how to write low level output to a connection.

I asked a similar question once and the answer I got was - Don't.
Instead, store the images on a drive somewhere and store the path in the database.
But I'm no expert - that's just what I was told by someone who does this kind of stuff a lot.
Hope that helps.

Hello,
I want to know how to do SAVE AS DRAFT using Java
mail Api.
thanksI don't think you can. That sounds like a feature of a mail client app itself. The Java mail API is for when you're ready to actually send the thing. Saving drafts is storing them somewhere like you would any other data; nothing to do with the mail API.
