     }This code is to read a text file. But there is no such thing that will convert your text file to xml file. You have to have a defined XML format. Then you can read your data from text files and insert them inside your xml text. Or you may like to read xml tags from text files and insert your own data. The file format of .txt and .xml is far too different.

How to print a text file using Java

How can I print a text file using Java without converting the output to an image format. Is there anyway I can send the characters in the text file as it is for a print job? I did get a listing doing this ... but that converted the text to an image format before printing....

Hi I had to write a print api from scratch, and I did not convert the output to image. Go and read up on the following code. I know there is a Tutorial on Sun about the differant sections of the snippet.

JoveIf I understand your question correctly you need to know the format of a .csv file for use in an Excel spreadsheet. A .csv file is a comma-delimited file so all that you need to do is write your data elements to the file with commas in between them. Having done something similar in the past, let me warn you that when Excel is reading your file, it uses some characters other than commas as field delimiters. for example, / : and ; are treated as commas. To defeat this, you will need to surround fields containing those characters in double quotes.

i am trying to create an XML file using java 1.5. I took a XML creating java file which was working with java 1.4 and ported same file into java 1.5 with changes according to the SAX and DOM implmentation in java 1.5 and tried to compile. But while writing as a file it throws error "cannot find the symbol."

when I look in the JDK1.4.2 specification I don't see any write method in the Document interface.
However, your solution is the Transformer class. There you transform your DOM tree into any output you need. Your code sould look something like this:     TransformerFactory tf = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
     // set all necessary features for your transformer -> see OutputKeys
     Transformer t = tf.newTransformer();
     t.transform(new DOMSource(xmlDoc), new StreamResult(file));Then you have your XML file stored in the file system.

I want to write a java program, which will read or fetch file name and check for virus by using some antivirus and if the file is not infected then it must return boolean true otherwise false.
But I don't know how to write the code means I know how to call commands from java but how to pass file name to some anti virus that I don't know. If anybody give me any hint or some sample code then I will be thankful to him/her.

You need to look at the documentation for your antivirus program to find out how it must be called to check a specific file. Then you can use Runtime.exec() and pass in the appropriate command-line to launch it.

How to restrict mounting of files using java

Is there any way by which we can use java to restrict the OS from mounting files?
The usecase is i want to provide a basic level of security so that a normal user(not an expert hacker) can't access the files of my memory card. The java utility will ask for a password and then alone it will mount files of the memory card.
Preferrably i want to avoid encryption of all the files as i want to use the card on mobile phone to access the files too.

start is a windows command-line utility.
start foo.doc will start Word (or Star Office or Word Perfect or whatever is registered for the .doc extension),
start bar.htmnl will start your registered browser etc.

You should update your DOM document to represent the changes that you want made.
Then, using the Transformation API you simply transform your document onto a stream representing your file. Something like this:
Transformer transformer = TransformerFactory.newInstance().newTransformer();
transformer.setOutputProperty(OutputKeys.INDENT, "yes");
// TODO - set indentation amount!
Source source = new DOMSource(dom);
Result result = new StreamResult(file);

How do I reference a file using java on OSX?

I'm new to both Java and development on OSX. I'm trying to run a console app that opens a file and copies it somewhere else. Yet my code errors out saying the file is not found. This is a sample of how I'm trying to reference the source file. What am I doing wrong?

Note also the convenience of the System property "user.home"
String homeDir = System.getProperty("user.home"); This should be "/Users/user_name" on Mac OS X. But it will be different on Linux and Windows. I always like to avoid hard coding when I can.
