  • How to migrate Postgres database to Oracle?

    Hi Experts,
    Please guide me to migrate Postgres database to Oracle. Postgres database version is 9.2 and it is in Linux server.
    can I  use Oracle SQL Developer migration tool  for migrating from Postgres to Oracle?
    Please give valuable suggestions.
    Regrads,
    Suresh.

    As per earlier threads, Oracle SQL developer doesn't support Postgres to Oracle migration hence you need to go for some other tool/approach as listed in my second reply.
    such cross RDBMS migrations are done in 2 phases.
    Phase 1- Code migration
    Phase 2- data migration
    In phase 1, you work on DDL conversion for all objects like- tables, views, triggers, procedures, packages, Mviews, in-built function conversion etc. This becomes complex when there is lot of code present since in many cases, you have to re-write the code to make it work in target RDBMS.
    in phase 2, it is about migration of table data from source to target. It can be done by simply dumping the table data in CSV format and then using SQL loader kind of tool to load it.
    You can also use replication tools like- Oracle Golden Gate and other tools available in market.

    This forum is dedicated for migrations from non-Oracle databases to Oracle, using the SQL Developer Migration Workbench. So you should better place your question in the Oracle Reports forum: Reports

  • How to migrate  workflow user to upgrade oracle database

    hello all,
    we are running oracle 8.1.7 on sun solaris machine
    and workflow builder 2.5.0.16.4,now we want to upgrade the
    database with 9i,can some body please guide me how can we
    migrate the workflow user 'owf_mgr' data from 8.1.7 to 9i.
    i mean i want to have all the runtime data avaialable to me on
    9i as well.
    thanks in advance.
    Zeeshan Ahmad

    The first thing you need to be aware of is that Oracle Workflow
    2.5 is not certified on 9i. You have 2 options:
    1) Upgrade to Oracle Workflow 2.6 on 8.1.7 (Workflow 2.6 is a
    separate CD in the 8.1.7 CD pack), and then upgrade the database
    to 9i.
    2) Upgrade the Database to 9i, and then upgrade to Oracle
    Workflow 2.6.1 which is included on the 9i Database CD.
    When you upgrade the database, all the data in the owf_mgr schema
    should be upgraded as well. As always, you would perform a couple
    of test database/workflow upgrades before upgrading on your
    production box.

  • How to migrate MySQL stored procedure to Oracle

    Hi All,
    I migrated mysql 5.1.42-enterprise-gpl-advanced DB to oracle using sqldeveloper 3.1.07 tool.
    DB objects migrated successfully except Stored Procedures.
    I verified .sql and Out files.. Capture process not captured stored procedures SQL.
    Could you please suggest, where I can verify exact error or how to fix this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
      The SQL*Developer version you are using is an old one and you should use the latest version available from this link -
    Oracle SQL Developer
    However, even the v4 version does not support the migration of MySQL stored procedures as shown in this link -
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/supportedmigplatforms-086703.html
    You will have to manually convert the MySQL stored procedures to an Oracle format, as even the 'Scratch Editor' under 'Tools - Migration' - does not have an option for MySQL conversion.
    The documentation has details of the difference between MySQL and Oracle stored procedures -
    Oracle® SQL Developer Supplementary Information for MySQL Migrations

    You will go into this path C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\rdbms\admin\scott.sql. You can get scott.sql script yhen you need to run the script like @C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\rdbms\admin\scott.sql. Otherwise you just copy the below script and save it into one file then run that file using @

  • How to migrate 'table' data type into oracle solution?

    Say, I have following sample code in Sql Server:
    Declare @v1 table(old_value int, new_value int)
    insert into @v1 select old_value, new_value from aTable where....
    declare cur cursor for
    select new_value from @v1 where old_value=...
    what should I use in oracle to convert above code? I was thinking about nested table, but it seems not very suitable here. Any better solutions out there?

    It's been a while since I've done any SQL Server development, but if I recall correctly, a table data type in Transact SQL is used for storing temporary result sets.
    In your example, you seem to be temporaily storing the results of a query in a Transact SQL table, and then opening a cursor to iterate over the results.
    In Oracle PL/SQL, there is usually no need to do this, just open a cursor:
    create or replace procedure test_proc as
    begin
    for curs_rec in (select old_value, new_value from myTable) loop
    ... process each row ...
    end loop;
    end test_proc;
    If you really want your results in an array which your code can iterate over, look into the BULK COLLECT clause of the SELECT statement:
    create or replace procedure test_proc as
    TYPE array_type IS TABLE of myTable%ROWTYPE INDEX BY BINARY_INTEGER;
    my_array array_type;
    begin
    SELECT * BULK COLLECT INTO my_array FROM myTable;
    for idx in my_array.FIRST..my_array.LAST loop
    dbms_output.put_line(my_array(idx).col1);
    end loop;
    end test_proc;
    Note that I have not actually compiled the above code, so there may be syntax errors :)
    Also, prior to 9i you can not BULK COLLECT into a table based on a rowtype (you need to created an array for each attribute).
    SQL Server also allows function which return table types. This is similar to PL/SQL pipelined table functions (available in 9i and higher - see the PL/SQL guide), which can be used to materialize rows which can be processed like any other result set.
    SQL Server also has a concept of temporary tables which is totally different than Oracle's temporary tables. SQL Server developers must often resort to using temporary tables in their stored procedures; in Oracle, this is rarely necessary.

  • How to Migrate from SQL server to oracle 11g

    Hi,
    i have many tables in sql server and i want to link them in oracle

    Welcome to the forum,
    Hi,
    To link Oracle with SQL Server follow this steps:
    1-Install Oracle ODBC drivers on the server (your local Oracle database) that will access the remote SQL Server database using the database link.
    2. Setup the ODBC connection on the local Oracle database using the Windows ODBC Data Source Administrator
    3. Test the ODBC drivers to ensure that connectivity is made to the SQL Server database.
    4. Ensure that your global_names parameter is set to False.
    5. Configure the Oracle Heterogeneous services by creating an initodbc.ora file within the Oracle database.
    7. Modify the Listener.ora file.
    SID_NAME is the DSN for the remote database.
    ORACLE_HOME is the actual Oracle home file path.
    PROGRAM tells Oracle to use heterogeneous services.
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME=Cas30C) -- Enter the DSN on this line
    (ORACLE_HOME = c:\oracle10gdb) -- Enter your Oracle home on this line
    (PROGRAM = hsodbc) ) )
    8. Modify the Tnsnames.ora file. This is the Oracle database installation accessed by the users to connect to the ODBC drivers
    (DESCRIPTION=
    (ADDRESS_LIST=
    (Address=(PROTOCOL=TCP)
    (HOST=
    -- (Server x)
    (PORT=1521))) -- Enter the port on which the server x Oracle installation
    -- is listening
    (CONNECT_DATA=(SID=Cas30c)) - Enter the DSN name
    (HS=OK) -- Enter this value. It tells Oracle to use hetergeneous services
    9. Reload the listener on local Oracle database
    10. Create a database link on the local Oracle installation that accesses the heterogeneous connection, which, in turn, connect to SQL Server.
    11. Run a SQL Server Select statement from the Oracle installation using the database link
    Thanks

  • How to reorganize applsys schema in oracle apps

    Dear Guru's,
    Can any one suggest how to Re-Organize Applsys schema in oracle application .
    The tablespace which is related to Applsys has nearly 15GB of free space. I need to resize it. Oracle has suggested to follow 303709.1. But it donsn't helped out.
    I am planning to 1) take an export of applsys schema 2) Drop applsys schema 3) Recreate new same tablespace with new appropriate storages & 4) import back the applsys scheam.
    Is it the appropriate method? I need the solution from some one who faced and resloved this issue. No theoritical solutions please.
    Naveen

    If you have the disk space you could create another tablespace and use the alter table move command to move the objects into it. See note 110246.1. I have used this method for other tablespaces (not applsys though). Depending on what version of the rdbms you are on there may be some limitations when it comes to lobs and nested datatypes/tables.
