How to migrate Postgres database to Oracle?

Hi Experts,
Please guide me to migrate Postgres database to Oracle. Postgres database version is 9.2 and it is in Linux server.
can I  use Oracle SQL Developer migration tool  for migrating from Postgres to Oracle?
Please give valuable suggestions.
Regrads,
Suresh.

As per earlier threads, Oracle SQL developer doesn't support Postgres to Oracle migration hence you need to go for some other tool/approach as listed in my second reply.
such cross RDBMS migrations are done in 2 phases.
Phase 1- Code migration
Phase 2- data migration
In phase 1, you work on DDL conversion for all objects like- tables, views, triggers, procedures, packages, Mviews, in-built function conversion etc. This becomes complex when there is lot of code present since in many cases, you have to re-write the code to make it work in target RDBMS.
in phase 2, it is about migration of table data from source to target. It can be done by simply dumping the table data in CSV format and then using SQL loader kind of tool to load it.
You can also use replication tools like- Oracle Golden Gate and other tools available in market.

    Selva,
The link for plugins is: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/migration/workbench/index.html. You can find DB2 plugins at the bottom of the page.
Regarding the migration procedure, you can start by reading this document:

  • How Migrate MySql Database to Oracle

    Hi...
I like Migrate MySql Database to Oracle, can help me?
    Alexandre

I am trying to migrate a MySql to an Oracle database. I have not had any problem setting up the migration workbench.
What I am having a problem with is copying the source database to the Oracle DB - I have verified that the host name is correct - and the MySql is at the default 3306 port number.
What my problem is that the root user on the Linux server is not the user with DBA priviliges - instead a user called admin is the user on the linux box that has DBA priviliges.
Is my only way around trying to get the root user assigned DBA priviliges in order for this extract to succesfully happen - and if so, how do I go about assigining DBA priviliges on the MySql database to the root user?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • How to migrate sql 7 to oracle 9i ???

    Hi,
Plz let me know the step by step solution of how to migrate sql 7 to oracle 9i? I am using oracle 9i and i have a d'base created in sql 7 and I am using win2000 server all are on the same server.if you could provide me the links which solve my problem.
    thanks a lot
    wityh regards : Alok Kumar

    Hi Alok,
Oracle have a tool called the Oracle Migration Workbench (OMWB). It is a free tool which can help you migrate you database from SQL Server 7 to Oracle 9i. You can find out more about it here.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration/workbench/index.html
You basically need to download the OMWB Core part and then 1 of the plugins (You need to download the SQL Server 7 plugin).
Once these are installed you can connect to your SQL Server 7 database, capture the schema objects within, map these to their Oracle equivalents and then Generate then into you Oracle database. Its GUI wizard driven tool so its easy enough to use.
Note that this tool helps people move there databases to Oracle and is not a silver bullet. The more complex your database more time you need to rectify problems and test.
    I hope this helps,
    Dermot.

  • How to modify the database by Oracle-ridc-client

How to modify the database by Oracle-ridc-client

First of all, from your question it is not very clear what kind of modifications you intend to do - one correct answer to your question could be "call any non-read-only service", which will result as insert/update/delete to a table somewhere. My guess is that this is not the answer you are looking for.
While working with RIDC (or CIS to answer your other thread at once) you have to understand that you integrate primarily with the application layer of your solution. If you want to modify the database scheme, you might, for instance, add a new metadata field - this is OK, because there is a service that you may call to achieve that. On the other hand you might want to change the db scheme directly (e.g. add a new column to a standard table); here neither RIDC, not CIS will help you unless you create a custom (server-side) service that you will call. Note, however, that you should be doing this only if you are really sure what you are doing.

  • How to create new database on Oracle 10g

    Hi All,
Can any one tell me how to create new database on oracle 10g.
Thanks in Advance for your help.

    again some confusion here.....
u said u need a new database in your first post and now you saying u need a new schema..
one database has many schemas(users)..... ex: scott, sys, system are few of them...
now it depends you need seperate database for test, dev environment - this is in the case u have many schemas under each database and many tables(objects) under each schema.
    OR
You just need a separate schema (in same db) for test, dev environment...where in you will have multiple tables in each schema...U need to know the dba credentials of the db to create a new schema.
ideally u need to have different database...You can create one with out sys/system(oracle users) password as these passwords are db dependent.
what you need is access to the any machine where server is installed(can be the same mc where you have your dev db or a diff machine) and that will be the machine where your db will be installed (can do it through database configuration assistance),ofcourse you will need windows authentication for this.
so you login to the same machine or access it from your machine using remote login.
I hope that is clear.Hope i am not listing things that you already know..Just did it coz of confusion between db and schema

  • Migrating MySQL5 database to Oracle 10g - refrential integrity constraints

On migrating MySQL5 database to oracle, referential integrity constraints are not migrated to Oracle. Capture stage shows it has captured the constraints but constraints are missing from the Oracle Model. Is this a bug? If not, what I need to do to get constraints migrated.

  • Migrating MySQL database to Oracle 11g RAC

    Hi,
I would like to migrate an entire database from MySQL to my new Oracle 11g RAC. How do I do it?

    Hi Turloch,
I was able to configure SQLDeveloper to connect to Oracle and MySQL.
I am having a hard time migrating data from mysql maybe due to table size. I got mysql tables with more than 20M and the PC am running the sqldeveloper is running out of memory every time I try to migrate the tables.
Can you share some experience migrating from MySQL to Oracle?
    Thank You.

  • How to migrate jBASE env. to Oracle DB or NoSQL

    Hello ...
I have a customer running jBASE and thinking of moving him to use Oracle DB or NoSQL.
anybody knows how to or specific direction?
    Thanks,
    Sam

    Hi Sam,
Temenos will do the migration. Moving to Oracle DB or any other relational database does not mean that JBASE will be eliminated.
T24 will still write, read, update and delete the jBASE tables, however a driver will translate these operations to Oracle.
For example, a write operation will be performed to the jBASE table, the driver will take over, translate the jBASE record to XML and then write the XML string to an Oracle table.
A read operation will be performed from T24 to jBASE which in turn will go to Oracle, read the record, the result XML will be translated to jBASE format and sent to T24.

one more thing is that how to assign connection with JSP. i need code if possible.Create a DAO class which does all the JDBC task. Then create a servlet class which has an instance of the DAO class. In the doGet() or the doPost() do your DAO thing, store the result in the request scope and forward the request to a JSP. In the JSP file use JSTL/EL to display the data to the world.
