How to delete the data from partition table
Hi all,
Am very new to partition concepts in oracle..
here my question is how to delete the data from partition table.
is the below query will work ?
delete from table1 partition (P_2008_1212)
we have define range partition ...
or help me how to delete the data from partition table.
Thanks
Sree874823 wrote:
delete from table1 partition (P_2008_1212)This approach is wrong - as Andre pointed, this is not how partition tables should be used.
Oracle supports different structures for data and indexes. A table can be a hash table or index organised table. It can have B+tree index. It can have bitmap indexes. It can be partitioned. Etc.
How the table implements its structure is a physical design consideration.
Application code should only deal with the logical data structure. How that data structure is physically implemented has no bearing on application. Does your application need to know what the indexes are and the names of the indexes,in order to use a table? Obviously not. So why then does your application need to know that the table is partitioned?
When your application code starts referring directly to physical partitions, it needs to know HOW the table is partitioned. It needs to know WHAT partitions to use. It needs to know the names of the partitions. Etc.
And why? All this means is increased complexity in application code as this code now needs to know and understand the physical data structure. This app code is now more complex, has more moving parts, will have more bugs, and will be more complex to maintain.
Oracle can take an app SQL and it can determine (based on the predicates of the SQL), which partitions to use and not use for executing that SQL. All done totally transparently. The app does not need to know that the table is even partitioned.
This is a crucial concept to understand and get right. -

How to move data from a staging table to three entity tables #2
Environment: SQL Server 2008 R2
I have a few questions:
How would I prevent duplicate records, when/ IF SSIS is executed many times?
How would I know that all huge volume of data being loaded in the entity tables?
In reference to "how to move data from a staging table to three entity tables ", since I am loading large volume of data, while using lookup transformation:
which of the merge components is best suited.
How to configure merge component correctly. (screen shot is preferred)
Please refer to the following link

Then inside rowcount transformation pass a integer variable to get count value inside
the event handler can be configured as below
Inside Execute SQL task add INSERT statement to add rowcount to your audit table
Can you also show me how to Check against destination table using key columns inside a lookup task and insert only non
matched records (No Match output)
This is explained clearly in below link which Arthur posted
http://www.sqlis.com/sqlis/post/Get-all-from-Table-A-that-isnt-in-Table-B.aspx
For large data I would prefer doing this in T-SQL. So what you could do is dump data to staging table and then apply
T-SQL MERGE between tables (or even a combination of INSERT/UPDATE statements)

Hi Solomon,
so I have to identify partition & index are created or not,
also I have check the status of index ( both global and local)So what's the problem? Table/index partition is an object, so you can query DBA_OBJECTS:
SELECT SUBOBJECT_NAME,
CREATED
FROM DBA_OBJECTS
WHERE OWNER = partitioned-table-owner
AND OBJECT_NAME = partitioned-table-name
AND CREATED >= TRUNC(SYSDATE)
/This will give you partitions created today. So if you run this right after your job (I hope your job doen't run too close to midnight), you'll get table partition name your job created. Same logic can be applied to indexes.

Hello Experts,
I need a detailed doc on how to move the fact and dimension tables to different server's.Please help me out from this
Thanks in advance....You still haven't told anyone what products besides Essbase you are using, without which this is an impossible question to answer.

Are you connecting to these tables from Essbase with a load rule / ODBC? Using Studio? Using Integration Services? Any Drill-Through reporting set up?
This may sound harsh, but if you truly don't know how to answer any of these questions you should probably not be anywhere near this task... -

Table dropped.If you want to be able to move the segment to a different tablespace than the table, I guess that is not possible. Oracle only allows LOBs to be stored in separate tablespace than the corresponding table provided they are defined as LOBs explcitly during table creation, unlike the LOB created by oracle internally as a result of column datatype being ANYDATA as in this case. -

How to move rows from one partition to another?
We have a data retention requirement for 6 months and after 6 months the data can be removed except for few records with certain statuses (which cannot be removed even if they are over 6 months). We have Oracle 11g.
I wanted to see if the following strategy works:
I will have monthly partitions and 8 sub partitions (hash) in each of the main partitions. The hash sub-partitions are to spread the load of application data and balance the data insertion to avoid any contention.
At the end of 6 months, is it possible for me to move the row that needs to be kept to a different partition and drop the last partition. I wanted to avoid data deletion because we only have very little database downtime and data deletion require us to coelize the database to avoid fragmentation.
If I can move the data to another partition, how will I do it?
ThanksI think you didn't get intentions correctly.
My intention is to move the required data to a partition and then drop the original partition. that because the amount of data required to keep for future use is less than 1%.
I understood what you meant to convey. Thanks a lot.
I laid out eh plan something like the following.
1. Add a new date column to facilitate the partitioning (say its called PARTITION_DT. PARTITION_DT will have the same data as ROW_CREAT_DTTM without the timestamp portion of the date.)
2. We will start with monthly partition using PARTITION_DT, Create a 'Default' partition as well.
3. Add hash sub-partitions on MSG_ID to spread the application data load and avoid contention (so the application load is balanced just like how its balanced through the hash partitions today)
4. At the end of the data retention period, identify the records that needs to be retained (because of some trade statuses, etc ) and update the PARTITION_DT with a distant past date so the row will automatically move to the Default partition. The identification of the records to be retained and updating the PARTITION_DT can be done through a batch job. since this step involve very few records, it can be done in minutes or seconds.
5. Now, we can drop the oldest partition and rebuild the index if required.
6 The process should add sufficient number of monthly and its sub-partitions ahead of time to make sure we always have partitions available for new data.
The entire process can be automated and executed through a scheduled job. -

How to move a column within a table?
Hi All!
Is it possible in Oracle 9i to move a column within a table? For instance, I have a table
ID1 ID2 ID3 SRC_ID1 SRC_ID2 SRC_ID3
and I want to add one more column ID4. So, I can do it like this:
ALTER TABLE MY_TABLE
ADD ID4 NUMBER(18);
In this case, the column will be added to end of the table but I want to move the column on the position after ID3. So, my question is, is it possible to move a column within a table? And if yes, how I can do it?.
Any help will be appreciate.
With best regards,
Andrej Litowka.Hi,
Actually speaking it makes no difference where a column is placed in the table. The select clause is the one that decides on how to display the data. But still if you want to store it next to a particular column then there are 2 options...
1. Rename <tname> to <tname_1>;
Create view <tname> as select <cols> from <tname_1>;
The above option is useful in case of selects. In case of DMLs it will have to do a little more work by going and firing the same on the actual underlying table.
2. Rename <tname> to <tname_1>;
Create table <tname> (<new col order with the new col>);
Insert into <tname> (select <col order> from <tname_1>);
This option seems to be better than the first one.
Hope this helps you.

DJ
