How to move profiles.ini in firefox

I need move profiles.ini to D:\backupfirefox
i use mklink to move profiles.ini
But i have error. When i run firefox.exe, firefox will create new profiles
How to fix it. I need move profiles.ini. I need backup list folder profile

If you do not want to use the profiles.ini file then you can use a desktop shortcut with an absolute path is it instead of the profile name that needs to be registered in the profiles.ini file.
Note that you can't launch Firefox by clicking a link in an external application because that will use the profiles.ini file, so Firefox needs to be started and running without a possible -no-remote command line switch before you can click links elsewhere.

Firefox will always look for the profiles.ini file in the default profile location in "%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\" and you can't change that location.

• Accidentally deleted firefox "profiles.ini" and now says firefox is already running when I try to open it.

Accidentally deleted firefox "profiles.ini" and now says firefox is already running when I try to open it. "a copy of firefox is already open. only one copy of firefox can be open at one time. Now I'm aware this happens often and people have posted solutions to this, but this situation is slightly different. The "profiles" that possibly had parental lock on it were deleted and I don't know how to get it back. Re-downloading firefox obviously does nothing. Opening the task manager and to try and close all mozilla/firefox files and apps doesn't work either. Tried using Onyx to turn invisible files visible but that didn't work either. I think it's cause I deleted the profiles. Suggestions?

Any chance of restoring that profiles.ini file via the Time Machine?

If not then you need to use the Profile Manager to re-register that no longer recognized profile.
You do that by creating a new profile and use Choose Location to point the your lost profile.

• How to move firefox history from macbook?

Hello,
Need to know how to move firefox history from macbook to other new macbook?
Thank you

You can use Firefox Sync to sync the history.
You can also copy the places.sqlite database file from the old computer to the new computer.
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Recovering+important+data+from+an+old+profile
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
In Mac OS X v10.7 and later, the $HOME/Library folder is a hidden folder.
Open Finder and use one of these:
*Go > Go To Folder (Shift-Command-G) and in the dialog type: ~/Library
*Open the "Go" menu and hold down the Option key to make the Library appear

• Get your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible after install. Profile.ini isnt installed at all. Forums no help.

I have installed the latest version of Firefox on my windows XP Pro 32 bit box 3 times and uninstalled 3 times to fix the message that the Profile is missing and your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible. I am admin on the box and I can install the download and remove it all day long but I can't get the profile.ini to be created. I've looked at all the forums and they don't address the missing profile at all or that it never gets created. I really need this to work as IE won't work for me.

I don't know who you emailed, given that Mozilla doesn't provide tech support via e-mail. If you're referring to the notification e-mails from this forum, they only serve to let you know a reply has been posted. You need to click the “See the comment” link in the message to reply.

If there was anyway to import the profile.ini I would.
You could manually create the folders and the ''profiles.ini'' file, but without solving the underlying problem, you're likely just run into some other issue instead. If you insist on going about it this way, this is what you'd do:
1. Click the '''Start''' button on the taskbar and choose '''Run'''.
2. In the box that opens, type ''%AppData%'' and press Enter.
3. In the folder that opens, create a new folder called ''Mozilla''
4. Open the Mozilla folder and inside it create a new folder called ''Firefox''
5. Start Notepad, paste the following as its contents, then save the file as ''%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\profiles.ini''

<nowiki>[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1
[Profile0]
Name=default
IsRelative=1
Path=Profiles/2dzy4k7u.default
Default=1</nowiki>

6. Inside the Firefox folder, create a new folder called ''Profiles''
7. Inside the Profiles folder, create a new folder called ''2dzy4k7u.default''

When launching Firefox, it will then attempt to populate the blank profile folder with data files (bookmarks, history, cookies, and so on). If you still have the permissions issue, I expect it will fail to do so.

• Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible - yet no profile.ini file is missing (folder empty), clean reinstall has not not worked

I'm running windows 8 and had recently handed my computer back to be repaired. When I got my computer back I started getting the error that states that "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible." upon opening.
I've had this before and just renamed the profile.ini file as something different forcing Firefox to create a new profile. However the profile.ini file is not there, at all.
Everything that I've searched for shows profile management through firefox, but I can't open firefox to create any profiles so they don't help at all.
Does anyone know

This is usually caused by a problem with the profiles.ini file and the profile marked as Default=1 is no longer present on the hard drive.
*Windows: "%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\"
*Linux: ~/.mozilla/firefox/
*Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/
*Delete the profiles.ini file to force Firefox to create a new default profile
*Use the Profile Manager to create a new profile
*Use "Choose Folder" to recover an existing profile if there is still one present
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Managing+profiles
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
The "AppData" folder in Windows Vista and later Window 7+ versions and the "Application Data" folder in XP/Win2K are hidden folders.
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Creating a profile":
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.

• I need to move my profile to an external drive but the edits I make to the profile.ini file don't seem to be working

I am using a Mac, and need to have my profile be on an external drive. I edit the profile.ini file per the instructions I found here:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb
but it's not working. I must have the path wrong. Again, I am using a Mac. Here is the info in the profile.ini file:
[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1
[Profile0]
Name=default
IsRelative=0
Path=Macintosh%HD/My%20Passport/Thunderbird/Profiles/o6fqy09d.default
Default=1
Do you see anything about the path that looks incorrect? The "My Passport" is the external drive.
Also, if there was an updated disk image for Portable Thunderbird, I could try setting that up but all I can find is a very old one which I tried but it won't update.
Thank you,
Todd

The "My Passport" external drive must be mounted somewhere in the file system. That's the path you need to use.

• I can't figure out how to move my bookmarks and other settings from my old computer to my new one.

I recently bought a new HP 64 bit laptop. I am interested in transferring my Firefox profile from my old Dell computer to my new HP. The help instructions are clear about how you backup the prifile but if you copy the old file profile(C:\Documents and Settings\jgruetz\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles) into the new computer's C- Drive Firefox does not recognize the transferred file. In fact it hangs up and I had to uninstall and reinstall Firefox. The profile file name on the old computer is (sv0cbzeb.default) the file path on the new computer is (C:\Users\jgruetz\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\4w9161mx.default. I have tried everything I know to no avail. Help.

Copy the entire '''~\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\''' folder to the new PC. You need the '''profiles.ini''' file in addition to the \Profiles\ folder. The '''profiles.ini''' file is like the "gatekeeper" or "index" for the Profiles. If the exact Profile name isn't in that file, Firefox won't use that Profile - it doesn't "exist" as far as Firefox knows.

• How can I get the old Firefox back, this new one stinks

how can I get the old Firefox back, this new one stinks

Firefox is highly customizable and you may be able to customize it to meet your needs.
If you do not like the new UI, you can make Firefox 4 look and behave more like Firefox 3.6, for details see http://www.computertechtips.net/64/make-firefox-4-look-like-ff-3-6
To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles

• OS X SERVER "Profile Missing Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."

We have an OS X 10.6.8 SL server managing our iMacs. Since the update of the workstations to at least 10.6.8 and Firefox 34.0.5, we get the error: [Profile Missing Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible.] upon launch of Firefox. It appears to be an issue that the profile is stored on the server rather than on the local hard drive. There is no way whatsoever to access, configure, start, or any other way manage Firefox at this point. Need a solution to this problem as we have hundreds of users that are unable to use Firefox now.

See:
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/how-run-firefox-when-your-profile-missing-or-inacc

• I need to reload (resend information) multiple tabs in less than a second (I am playing Travian), but how can I do this with firefox for mac?

When I try to send multiple attacks within a second playing Travian, it is impossible because it is too slow to confirm "resend information" on each tab, and it also takes too long to move from one tab to another. I've tried changing all the possible settings I can think of, but nothing seems to work.. This works fine if you have windows or linux, so how can I make this work with my mac, or do I have to get a pc just for that :( Thank you ever so much for helping me.. I've spent countless hours on this and I am just about to give up playing Travian because of this one stupid little thing :(

It is working for me if I open a second Firefox instance with its own profile by starting Firefox with the -no-remote command line switch.

• How to change the directory where firefox stores the bookmarks

I want to setup firefox so it will store all files, including the bookmarks, to another directory than the default directory.
example d:\backup\mozilla\firefox\
This will make it easier for me to backup these files.
How can I do this ?

Try using profile manager that may allow you to setup a profile on the d:\ drive if so that is where the bookmarks will then be stored. (If that does not work resort to manually editing the profile.ini)
