How to number the list of documents

Question

Hi every one . I am writing a script which show list of all the folders in a directory in desc order and than copies the most recent one to the new folder location. I have actually accomplish this part but i would like user to select the number of folder
to be copied for example. at the moment i am getting the output like this
cars
bikes
houses
But i would like to see the output something like this
1. cars
2.bikes
and so on.
here at this point i would like the user to enter no.s eg enter 1 to copy cars folder into a new location.
