How to parse String to DateTime

I have a string variable with the datetime value in the follo
wing format:
30-May-2010 11:30 AM
There is a need to convert this string value into DateTime for some processing.
I have used the following expression, which is failed to coerce:
parse-dateTime-withFormat(/process_data/@KPIStartDateStr, "dd-MMM-yyyy hh:mm a")
Any advise would be appreciated.

However, the actual value I would like to get is indeed a character '%28', i.e. '(' . How can I change this String to the char I want?

Hi! I'm having problems parsing an xml string. I've done DOM and SAX parsing before. But both of them either parse a file or data from an input source. I don't think they handle strings. I also don't want to write the string into a file just so I can use DOM or SAX.
I'm looking for something where I could simply do:
Document doc = documentBuilder.parse( myXMLString );
So the heirarchy is automatically established for me. Then I could just do
Element elem = doc.getElement();
String name = elem.getTagName();
These aren't the only methods I would want to use. Again, my main problem is how to parse xml if it is stored in a string, not a file, nor comming from a stream.

How could i parse string and link its model with my files in eclipse project?, as i read that we dont have to use standalone mode while working with eclipse projects.
Example of what i want to do:
I have file1.dsl in my project which contains some statements but the declaration of these statements are not in another file, i need to put them only in my code

I have eclipse project contains 2 files, file1.dsl and file2.dsl, you can see the contents of the files below.
file1.dsl contains some statements as shown below and file2.dsl contains the declarations of the variables. (like in C++ or Java we have declarations and usage)
At this step file1.dsl and file2.dsl will be parsed successfully without any errors.
Lets imagine that we will delete this project and will create another one and the new project will contain only file1.dsl (which contains the usage)
At this step this file (file1.dsl) will contains some errors after parsing it, because we are using variables without declarations.
So what i need is to parse the content of file2.dsl directly without adding this file to the project.
I need to add the content of file2.dsl directly as a string in the code and parse it. just like that ( "int a;int b;" )
And link file1.dsl with the model generated after parsing my string
file1.dsl
a++;
b++;
file2.dsl
int a;
int b;

How to parse a BigDecimal from a localized number String

I want to be able to build a BigDecimal instance from a localized String.
i.e.: From a string like "2.123,45123" I want to get when I get by doing: new BigDecimal("2123.45123");
The NumberFormat parse(String) method answers doubles, so I lose presition. When I do nf.parse(2,0000000000000000001) y get a Double representing 2. I can't make a BigDecimal from such a string afaik.
The problem is the localized version on the number (in the string) otherwise it works fine (with the US locale).

Just use the appropriate API's for that. There are enough API's out which can read/parse/write XML, ini and properties files. E.g. JAXP or DOM4J for xml files, INI4J for ini files and Sun's own java.util.Properties for propertiesfiles.
JSF supports properties files as message bundle and resource bundle so that you can use them for error messages and/or localization.

i have exactly the same problem with KXml2, but using a j2me-polish netbeans project.
i've tried to work around with similar ways like you, but none of them worked. now i've spent 3 days for solving this problem, i'm a bit disappointed :( what is wrong with setting the downloaded kxml2 jar path in libraries&resources?

Using the SAXParser in JAXP the parsing of the XML file is event driven.
Instantiate the parser:
SAXParserFactory factory = SAXParserFactory.newInstance();
SAXParser parser = factory.newSAXParser();
InputSource is = new InputSource(new FileReader(theXML));call the parse method:
parser.parse(is, this);The following events are fired as the parser works through the XML public void startElement(String namespaceURI, String localName, String qName, Attributes atts) throws org.xml.sax.SAXException
public void endElement(String namespaceURI, String localName, String qName) throws org.xml.sax.SAXException
characters(char[] ch, int start, int length)etc.
You write what you want within each of these sections to handle the structure of your data. Keep in mind SAX is useful only when you know the structure of your XML.

How to parse date in yyyyMMddHH'.'mmss'00' format

In an applet I am creating, I receive a timestamp in the following format:
yyyyMMddHH'.'mmss'00'
As an example, the date string I receive is "2003011419.304600" which, when decoded, gives, Jan 14 19:30:46 2003.
I need to convert this to the MM/dd/yyyy format for date and HH:mm:ss:SS for time, in order to display it in my applet.
Here is the scheme I am using:
String inputDateFormat = "yyyyMMddHH'.'mmss'00'";
SimpleDateFormat dateFormatter = new SimpleDateFormat("MM/dd/yyyy");

However, I am getting parse exception, Unparseable date error at the following line:

Is this because the date format does not contain any delimiters (like space or period or slash)? I am kinda confused.

Please can someone help me to know how to parse a string in obiee answers:
Eg: 'Administrators;XMLP_ADMIN;319'.

you want to have all values before the semi colon?
you can use regexp in obiee to parse these kind of strings..
