How to pass a file with parameters to a shell script from java
I have a sh script running on linux. This script prompts when started prompts for 4 questions, for which the answers are 1, 1, 1, Y. So now I need to invoke this from a java program and pass the parameters in a file from jave to the script. Can anyone tell me how to code this in java. The script works fine from command line.
Thanks in advance.

How to run unix shell script from java web applet
hi all
i have created one java applet. my apache web server is on unix server.
i have created one shell script in same directory where my .class and .htm files reside...
how to run this shell script from applet? it should search this .sh file on server and not on the client browser machine...
thanks in advanceI suppose you could make the shell script into a CGI, configure the server to execute CGIs, and then make the applet open the URL of that CGI.

How to pass a result of SQL query to shell script variable
Hi all,
I am trying to pass the result of a simple SQL query that only returns a single row into the shell script variable ( This particular SQL is being executed from inside the same shell script).
I want to use this value of the variable again in the same shell scirpt by opening another SQL plus session.
I just want to have some values before hand so that I dont have to do multiple joins in the actual SQL to process data.Here an example :
SQL> select empno,ename,deptno from emp;
EMPNO ENAME DEPTNO
7369 SMITH 20
7499 ALLEN 30
7521 WARD 30
7566 JONES 20

How to pass password to an lftp connection using shell script
Hi
I need to transfer a file to server which support FTPS protocol. I am using lftp utility for this purpose. User credentials used to establish the connection expires after a period(eg: 45 days/3 months) . Can anyone guide me with me an approach to use the password in the shell script which transfer the file to the remote server other than hard coding the password in the script.
Thanks
RamyaSSH is a better option but unfortunately it's not always available. If you worry about security, you could use the bookmark lftp feature:
$ lftp ftp://username@server
Password:
lftp username@server:~> set bmk:save-passwords true
lftp username@server:~> bookmark add yourserver
lftp username@server:~> bookmark list
lftp username@server:~> quit
$ lftp yourserver &
$ ps -aux | grep lftp
The password is stored in ~/.lftp/bookmarks (not encrypted) but you can protect the file with the right permissions as you would do with your certificates with SSH. -
Passing long string to shell script from java
I am trying to passa a long string to a shell process through java,
call is like
Runtime rtime = Runtime.getRuntime();
String callAndArgs[] = {"/apps/jetty4/jstest/jstest.sh",jarCo,queue,text};
Process child = rtime.exec(callAndArgs);
here the string text is :
|HEADER|JAR933|[email protected]|290001|OL0006528|WIN4015444|SHAFT_FORGING|1.0|Baan EDM|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|290001|WIN4015444|00||||2|SHAFT FORGING|9|AXELSMIDE|3|ACHSE SCHMIEDESTCK|4|ARBRE FORG|f|AKSELITAOS|||||||||||||||||||||||No||Approved|41.0|Mechanic|Yes|pc||WIN4015444|EL20|Purchased|Metric||0|20051120|||||Released||||||||||||||||No||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Now i use this string in shell script to pass as an argument to other class. But the string gets truncated.
How do i solve this?It appears that your os is truncating the data - Java's not involved.
Maybe write the data to a file and then read it into the external program some way. -
Anyone know how to upload csv file to temp table of sybase DB from java?
Dear All,
I blindly need your help in achieving the following:
I have the csv file which contains OrdId and BillId values. I just wanted to read these two values one by one from excel and loaded them into one temp table of Sybase SQL Anywhere.
here is the sample query for your reference:
begin tran
create table tempdb..ordBill (ord_id int identity,bill_id int
go
load table tempdb..ordBill from 'c:\\test\\test.csv'Error:
Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'table'.
I am having only one tool Microsoft ISQL/W from which i connect to remote sybase DB and run some queries like sp_help , create etc.. from there.
It would be great,if somebody knows the way of doing the above thru some java program. Otherwise, is there any tool like BCP required to do the above?
Awaiting for your valuable reply
thanks

How to pass a list of parameters to a query?
Hi,
I use OracleXE 10 Database with JDeveloper 11g.
In my project I use a Toplink mapping to get access to the database (Toplink Object Map file). This mapping xml file is called crmMap.xml.
In the crmMap.xml file I define a mapping to a "User table" which has the four columns id (number), title (varchar2), firstName (varchar2) and lastName (varchar2). A title can have the four values Bachelor, Master, Doctor and Professor.
I do define a query in crmMap.xml which has to find all the users that have a special title. I do give the query one parameter called "title" which has the type "java.util.ArrayList". The parameter "title" is a list that has for example the two values "Bachelor" and "Doctor", if I want to find all the users that are Bachelor or Doctor. The query looks like this ...
Select * from User where title in(?title)I do use an EJB Session Bean to call the query. The code looks like this ...
public List<User> findUserByStatus() {
Session session = getSessionFactory().acquireSession();
Vector params = new Vector(1);
List stati = new ArrayList();
stati.add("Doctor");
stati.add("Bachelor");
params.add(stati);
List<User> result = (List<User>)session.executeQuery("findUserByStatus", User.class, params);
session.release();
return result;
}Doing this I get an error, in the line
List<User> result = (List<User>)session.executeQuery("findUserByStatus", User.class, params);while the app is trying to execute the query.

bind => [[Doctor,Bachelor]]Does anyone know a way how to pass a list of parameters
Thanks BodhyHi,
One alternative way is to create String with , sepearted as pass the string to in clause.For example ,create a string ('Bachelor','Doctor') and pass this string to in clause.
Session session = getSessionFactory().acquireSession();
String params=( 'Bachelor','Doctor);
List<User> result = (List<User>)session.executeQuery("findUserByStatus", User.class, params);
session.release();
This is an alternative way and workaround which can work for Strings .
Or you can use EXpression to build the query to pass the collection as example given below.
Expression addressExpression;
ReadObjectQuery query = new ReadObjectQuery(Employee.class);
ExpressionBuilder emp = query.getExpressionBuilder();
addressExpression =
emp.get("address").get("city").equal(
emp.getParameter("employee").get("address").get("city"));
query.setName("findByCity");
query.setSelectionCriteria(addressExpression);
query.addArgument("employee");
Vector v = new Vector();
v.addElement(employee);
Employee e = (Employee) session.executeQuery(query, v);
Hope this helps.

Passing mulitple parameters to unix shell script via File adapter
Hi,
I have the following usecase.
I have a set of files A, B, C, D etc in a directory dir. I also have a EOT ( end of transaction file).
I need to merge this file once the EOT file is present in XI application server ( using NFS with File adpter).
I have a script which can take the following paramters:
1. EOT file name
2. File names for A,B,C,D
3. Directory names.
Is it possible to send muliple parameters to the unix script from the File adapter?
please share any blogs which do so.
Thanks in advance,
Best Regards
AbhishekHi,
You can always call script from file adapter using "OS command" functionality, pass additional parameter like you do in unix for existing script (exact command which you type on unix prompt).
Adapter will simply pass your OS command to operating system, so from XI point of view nothing is changed and it is your script which should take care of parameters.

/bin/rm -f /mnt/"test ex.txt"
I want to run the command from java.So i am using the following code
String cmd = "/bin/rm -f /mnt/\"test ex.txt\"";
Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
process = rt.exec(cmd);
The file was not deleted.
How to delete the file with space in name?
Help meUse the form of exec that takes an array of command + args.
arr[0] = "/bin/rm"
arr[1] = "-f"
arr[2] = "/home/me/some directory with spaces";Or use ProcessBuilder, which is the preferred replacement for Runtime.exec, and which Runtime.exec calls. -

How to create pdf files with text field data
how to create pdf files with text field data
That looks like it should work, but it doesn't.
I opened the PDF I had created from Word in Acrobat (X Pro). Went to File > Properties. Selected "Change Settings". I then enabled "Restrict editing...", set a password, set "Printing Allowed" to "none", "Changes Allowed" to "none", and ensured that "Enable copying of text..." was disabled.
I saved the PDF file, closed Acrobat, opened the PDF in Reader, and I was still able to select text and graphical objects.
I reopened the PDF in Acrobat, and the document summart still shows everything as allowed. When I click on "show details" (from File > Properties) it shows the correct settings.
Any ideas?
