    Hi,
    I dont see any parameters that you are trying to pass in the below code.
    public String button1_action() {
    FacesContext context = javax.faces.context.FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    ExternalContext ec = context.getExternalContext();
    try {
    ec.redirect("http://xxx/paramTest.jsp");

  • Pass Checkbox Parameters from HTML Form to a stored procedure

    I'm still looking for a solution to my forms problem. FYI, I'm not using Applications Express to build my application--I'm using straight PL/SQL. I need to know how to pass checkbox parameters from my Web form. I'm allowing folks to select one or more checkboxes on a form that will call a delete function to delete the selected records. What I read in Oracle's "Database Application Developer's Guide - Fundamentals" isn't helpful to me. If someone would point me to some examples, maybe I could see what I'm doing wrong. Here's what was written in "Database Application Developer's Guide - Fundamentals":
    All the checkboxes with the same NAME attribute make up a checkbox group. If none of the checkboxes in a group is checked, the stored procedure receives a null value for the corresponding parameter.
    If one checkbox in a group is checked, the stored procedure receives a single VARCHAR2 parameter.
    If more than one checkbox in a group is checked, the stored procedure receives a parameter with the PL/SQL type TABLE OF VARCHAR2. You must declare a type like this, or use a predefined one like OWA_UTIL.IDENT_ARR. To retrieve the values, use a loop:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE handle_checkboxes ( checkboxes owa_util.ident_arr )
    AS
    BEGIN
    FOR i IN 1..checkboxes.count
    LOOP
    htp.print('&lt;p&gt;Checkbox value: ' || checkboxes(i));
    END LOOP;
    END;
    SHOW ERRORS;

    I'm not sure I understand what your issue is.
    If your web form has the following checkboxes defined all with the same name:
    <input type="checkbox" name="attrib" value="1">one</input>
    <input type="checkbox" name="attrib" value="2">two</input>
    <input type="checkbox" name="attrib" value="3">three</input>Then you would create and register a procedure to handle the form submission that has a parameter with the name attrib of type owa_util.ident_arr e.g.:
    create or replace procedure handle_form(attrib owa_util.ident_arr) as
      iter number;
    begin
      for iter in attrib.first .. attrib.last loop
        -- do something with attrib(iter)
      end loop;
    end;
    /Now the one problem with this handler (or any form handler for that matter) is that if the user selects none of the check boxes, or no value for any of the expected parameters, the handler would be called with some parameters missing or with out any parameters passed to it, and the call will error out.
    To get around that you need to provide default values for all the parameters passed to your handler including the ident_arr parameters, however with ident_arr parameters that's difficult to do with standalone procedures. If you place your procedure in a package you can define package level variables of the appropriate types that can be used as default values:
    create or replace package my_web as
      empty_arr owa_util.ident_arr;
      procedure handle_form(attrib owa_util.ident_arr := empty_arr);
    end my_web;
    create or replace package body my_web as
      procedure handle_form(attrib owa_util.ident_arr := empty_arr) as
        iter number;
      begin
        for iter in attrib.first .. attrib.last loop
          -- do something with attrib(iter)
        end loop;
      end;
    end my_web;
    /now when you hit the situation where the user doesn't select any check boxes, the call to handle_form won't err out due to missing parameters, and the empty_arr won't have any elements to iterate over so the loop in the procedure body will be fine and you will be able to retrieve each selected check box value from the attrib array when you iterate over it.

    The answer is the same as for your other thread.  The mechanism is the same regardless of the end database.  The SQL  syntax will be different for each database vendor depending upon which functions you are invoking.  The main areas of difference between SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, etc. deal with dates (times also) and strings, but there are others as well.

  • Passing values to action form in struts using html:link tag in struts

    hi
    As we can post values to action form bean in struts using a <html:text> tag in side a form.
    Can the same be achieved by using a html:link attribute.
    If not then how can this be achieved (i.e. posting a form on click of a link and populating action form bean property for the same).

    For the benefit of others here, I resolved the problem by examining the properties of the datagridview control. In this case, the datagridview control binding property was being set in the visual studio designer and for some reason was not able to be set at runtime. I removed the binding property in the visual studio property window and the problem was resolved.

  • Newbie: what is the equivalent of passing request parameters?

    Hi-
    I am new to JSF. I have read many tutorials and articles. I still don't get one concept about passing parameters. Note: I don't want to store stuff in the session unless I have to.
    Let's say I have a page with a list of users. I layout the page with a panelGrid. Each row of the table has the first and last name of the user. If a user clicks on the name of a user on the user list, it should go to the user profile page. The backing bean for the user list page will be the UserListBean. It has a method called getUsers() that returns a List of User objects.
    For the View User page, I have a ViewUserBean. The ViewUserBean retrieve the entire profile for that user.
    How do I pass the user ID to the ViewUserBean? In struts, I would pass it as a request parameter (I would manually write the link URL with the userID). I know I can use the request like that in JSF, but that seems ugly. I looked at the code of the J2EE bookstore tutorial and it does a funky thing with all sorts of data stored in the session.
    What is the best way to request a page and "pass in" a userID?
    Thanks for your help.
    Adam

    I have a case on my current project very similar to your case. What you want, very simply, is an easy way to allow faces to handle URLs like http://www.domain.com/showUserDetails?userId=50
    The natural trouble is that when loading the page, there is no action to use to prefetch the User object based on the Request Parameters in JSF.
    All the solutions above either rely on the session or they are exceedingly complex. This case is actually very easy to do and is very straight forward using Managed Properties and a Request Scope bean...
    Here is the rather straight forward solution I used...
    First, make a "ShowUserDetailsBean" which represents the "logic" for this page.
    public class ShowUserDetailsBean
        /** Will point to the actual user service after dependency injection*/
        private UserService userService;
        /** Will hold the userId from the HTTP Request Parameters*/
        private String userId;
        /** Will hold a lazy loaded copy of the User object matching userId*/
        private User user;
        public void setUserService(UserService userService) {
            this.userService = userService;  //dependecy injection
        public void setUserId(String userId) {
           this.userId = userId;  //dependency injection
        /** Lazy loads the User object matching the UserId */
        public User getUser() {
            //Trap the case where the URL has no userId
            if (userId == null) return null;
            if (user == null) {
                user = userService.getUser(userId);  //Lazy Load
            return user;
    }Next, configure the managed properties in faces-config.xml
    <faces-config xmlns="http://java.sun.com/JSF/Configuration">
      <managed-bean>
        <managed-bean-name>userService</managed-bean-name>
        <managed-bean-class>foo.UserServiceImpl</managed-bean-class>
        <managed-bean-scope>application</managed-bean-scope>
      </managed-bean>
      <managed-bean>
        <managed-bean-name>showUserDetails</managed-bean-name>
        <managed-bean-class>foo.ShowUserDetailsBean</managed-bean-class>
        <managed-bean-scope>request</managed-bean-scope>
        <managed-property>
          <property-name>userService</property-name>
          <property-class>foo.UserService</property-class>
          <value>#{userService}</value>
        </managed-property>
        <managed-property>
          <property-name>userId</property-name>
          <property-class>java.lang.String</property-class>
          <value>#{param.userId}</value>
        </managed-property>
      </managed-bean>Finally, you just make your webpage as you normally would...
    <h:outputText value="#{showUserDetails.user.userId}"/>
    <h:outputText value="#{showUserDetails.user.firstName}"/>
    <h:outputText value="#{showUserDetails.user.lastName}"/>
    Now you're ready to test, so you visit the page
    http://www.domain.com/showUserDetails?userId=50
    And your user details with userId=50 appears!
    It's just that simple!
    Regards,
    Doug
    Caveat: I haven't added any sample logic to handle cases where you visit:
    http://www.domain.com/showUserDetails
    without specifying a userId. I suggest you add some basic logic to your page to handle this case more gracefully.

  • How to pass a variable from HTML to Flash

    I have built my flash ad banner in Flash 9 and now want the
    HTML code to pass the url over to the flash movie that it should
    jump to when clicked.
    The info in the help file seems out of date for the latest
    HTML template as it uses mainly JavaScript to get round IE's
    dreadful embeding issue. So my problem is, how do I pass a variable
    from the HTML to the actionScript specified int he Help file
    (running on a full screen button) as shown below?
    myButton_btn.onRelease = function() {
    if (clickTAG.substr(0, 5) == "http:") {
    getURL(clickTAG);
    via the html code now used by Flash 9 which is like this:

    You should use SWFObject to embed your Flash. Not only does
    it make
    embedding more straightforward, it makes passing query
    parameters very easy.
