How to power off modem correctly?

Is there a way to correctly power off the modem?
Last week I turned off the modem for 20 minutes by pulling out the power plug by the wall and for some reason my IP profile dropped a whole 5mb!
I have been holding the reset button for 5 seconds every 24 hours and can see my IP profile slowly increment by 0.25mb a day.
I have an appointment with the electricty company in Feb to replace the electricity meter which means there won't be power to my property for at least 30 minutes. I don't want to drop another 5mb due to this so my question is:
Is there a way to correctly power off the modem?

My neighbour only turns his modem and router on daily when ever he uses his PC. He gets 76M down and 20M up all the time and has done for last two years. Often works away from home for weeks and still gets same data rate.
So powering on and off makes no difference.
It depends how many times you turn it on and off, if you leave it off for some time then there should be no problem, apart from the fact that if an engineer is working close by, he might think your connection is not being used and disconnect it (I have seen that happen).

At this time I don't think there is a way to turn it off. the software will learn new words and shortcuts you use when typing as you go. To do this type in the word/phrase and then hit the x when the suggested word pops up or tap on the word to keep what you have. Then hit the space bar and type away, it should have added that word to its dictionary and if you type it again it shouldn't offer up a new word instead.

  • How to power off WAN adapter

My WAN adapter light is always lit, though I have not connected it to AT&T and do not yet care to use it.  How can I turn it off?

    Hello,
The power OFF/ON sequences are similar as for most of the other disk arrays.
    Power OFF:
    1. Stop all the IO.
    2. I would recommend to wait 1 min to ensure that the cache is flushed to the drives.
    3. Power OFF the controller tray (the tray that includes the RAID controllers).
    4. Power OFF the expansion tray(s) (if any).
    Power ON:
    1. Power ON the expansion tray(s) (if any).
    2. Wait 1 min.
    3. Power ON the controller tray.
    4. Wait 2 min.
    5. Resume the IO once you confirm that the LUNs are visible on the servers.
    Regards
    Nicolas

  • Hi all. Could anyone tell me how to Power Off & Power On the CISCO 52"LCD controls using RS232 to Play in Future

    Hi,
Im working in Cisco DMS & IPTV.
Im facing a problem with 4400 DMP & 5.2.2 DMM.
I want to control the CISCO 52inch LCD's using the 4400G DMP. I am able to power off,on the LCDs remotely through the DMM. Also I am able to Schedule to power off & power on the LCD for short number of days like for 3 or 4 days.
but i cannot schedule to play in future for a month.
My requirement is as follows: I want to turn off the LCD screen during the off time in my customers office. That is I want to schedule the screen to turn ON from 7 am to 6 pm. i want to turn off my lcd screens from 6pm to 6am. i want to schedule this for 1 or 2 months long in a single shot.
kindly reply as early as possible.

    Hello Peter,
I'm always eager to help as i get helped as well!
For the first part of your question: I cant see a reason why the scheduling fails for more that 4-5 days! I had it running for our customer on a daily basis without any issues.Make sure that you scheduled tasks dont conflict with other (e.gthat you may have configured when testing)
For the second part: What i did was the following: Let's consider that the working days are Mon-Friday:
So: In scheduling, i selected Monday, created two events (for LCDs on & off) and set both of them to repeat every week. I repeated this for Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday and finally Friday. In this way, i was able to configure the dmps for the working days only.
Also, what i also added in the scheduling was an extra event ( preferably set before turning on the lcds ), an advacned task which Saves&Reboots the dmps. In this way the 4400s start fresh everyday

  • Power off modem - speed increases??

Quick query - had BT infinity installed earlier this year. Estimated speed of 61, received around 64 (not complaining, and was very happy with it!).  A few months back had to move the modem and router, so switched off moved everything and switched on - found speed increase and ip profile changed to 65.50.  Two months ago had a bit of an electric outage in the house - when modem/router switched back on again profile increased to just over 66. Finally had British Gas visit for some work in the kitchen, they had to switch off the electric, and again profile/speeds increased to just over 67.  How are these increases coming about when the modem's lost power  (not even 'safe' power down)?  Thought each shutdown of the modem would lead to DLM activation and profile LOWERING?
    Solved!

Folks, sorry to resurrect this "solved" threat, but can anyone confirm which is the best application to use to check for interleaving? The other day a young nephew was playing about in my office and managed to pull out the phone and vdsl lead out of the master socket. Following an obvious panic stricken period of plugging everything back in and checking settings I was staggered to find my ip profile has risen to a whopping 73.71!!! I can't believe it's gone up so much from the initial installation rate. Which raises a question in my mind - was a 'shallow' level of interleaving applied initially which may have been taken off now? I've got the standard OR modern and hh4 router in my setup and I know I can't get at the stats unless I hack it (which obviously I don't want to do), so is there any other way I can get at the modem stats?

  • How to power off 5th Gen ipod nano

I've only used a 4th gen nano a couple of times and holding the play/pause button would turn off the nano.
I've just bought a 5th gen nano for somebody but holding the play/pause button only turns off the screen - hitting any other button brings it back to life.
How do I completely power it down ?
    Thanks

    Hello paddymacwack,
You turn off your 5th generation Nano the same way you did for your 4th generation by holding the Play/Pause button. However, upon hitting these buttons you should also activate the hold switch, that way you don't actually bump it and turn the iPod back on at any point.

  • X300 Power Off Wireless USB?

I've got a X300 with the Wireless USB option and am wondering how to power off the wireless usb radio?  The wireless PAN light is on the laptop constantly and I'd imagine it's burning battery power looking for connections.  I've disabled the hardware in control panel but that doesn't turn the light off on the laptop.  Any ideas?  Anyone know if the wireless PAN consumes much battery?

the PAN light will be on if you have wireless USB or bluetooth turned on (or both).   if you've turned WUSB off and the light is still on then you must have bluetooth turned on as well.
if either PAN is idle then battery drain should be minimal.   however, if you aren't using one or both then it's best to turn them off.

I have had my iMac for 55 days now and twice I had to power off/on and then It does not power up correctly.  I verified my disk and found errors that could not be repaired (errors were associated with boot drive)  I erased the drive and restored system back to the previous day.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Since it's a new machine, contact Apple's Support and let them deal with it. Allen's already recommended an Apple repair station visit. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you might be eligible for an onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine (depends on where you're located).  BTW, the AppleCare Protection Plan's the best warranty policy available for desktop machines. Get it if you don't have it before contacting Apple.

  • Survey: how do you power off your nano?

This is basically a quick survey on how people normally power off their ipod nano.
i have a 2gb black nano and have noticed some problems with turning the nano off by "holding the pause button" as this seems to reset my clock to 12am when i turn the nano back on after awhile.
so currently i just hit pause and let it sit and the nano shuts itself off eventually. so far i have had no problems with this method.
has anyone seen problems with this method or the other one? thanks!

    hi jeff,
yes i have reset the nano multiple times and have even restored it multiple times. i think maybe the problem i am seeing lies in holding the pause button to shut the unit down, perhaps I am pressing too hard. i notice when i power it on after a "hold" shutdown, sometimes the power surges (its a loud power-on sound) and thats when the 12:00am appears. All the other settings remain the same as I set it, just the RTC resets. This problem never happened with a "automatic" shutdown...
The reason for this survey is too see if anyone else has this problem and what the more "popular" way of shutting down the nano is.

  • HT1430 How do you power off a i Phone in Assistive Touch?

I have to use Assistive Touch on my phone because the power button does not work, how do I power off the phone completely when I use Assistive Touch?

Enable AssistiveTouch: Tap Settings, General, Accessibility, AssistiveTouch (near the bottom) and tap AssistiveTouch to ON.
You will now notice a small dark square with a circle in the middle (you can move this square anywhere). Tap the dark circle to open the AssistiveTouch menu, then tap Device and tap andhold the Lock Screen icon. This will bring up the iPhone's Power-Off slider - no need for a power button any longer!
Plug it into a power source, & it should turn on.
