How to process special unicode character

I just want to know how to process special entity
such as &auml,&uuml,&yuml,etc.
I use System.out.println() to print these characters, but I can see nothing.
I write this characters into text file,but there are question mark instead.

What OS you are using? If you are using WinNT/2K, they should be printed. If you are using others, you could try to change the font used by the console to see if those characters are printable.

  • How to display a unicode character in a list ?

    Hi,
    sorry if the question seem to be really easy but I doenbt found of to diaply a special character in a list.
    I thank that it was easy :
    1) display tha windows character map
    2) copy paste the charatcter in the ABAP Program to obtain something like this :
    write '≤'.
    But the displayed character is '#' . So, could you tell me how to display a gived unicode character ?
    Regards,

    Hello Morgan,
    you need SAP system with unicode. You can check it from every dynpro/mode:
    System->Status: SAP System dada  Unicode system: yes
    I have checked your sign '≤' on my not UC system: is displayed: '='.

  • Special unicode character

    I have been trying to get a line over the lower case o so it looks like this, ō, or the macron as it is known. I am using InDesign CS2 and want to have this character in Helvetica condensed.
    I can't get it to work using the Unicode key combination. This is not a font issue, the unicode combination worked in this text box. It also works in Word using the font I want - Helvetica condensed. Trying to paste from the system's character palette comes up with a wrong-sized, inappropriate character.
    Is there anything I can do to get this character in Helvetica condensed? I've heard that CS3 has the same font/unicode issues.
    I'm running a dual 2GB G5 PowerPc in OS 10.4.11.

    I'm not so familiar with Mac Word, but WinWord automatically substitutes fonts when it encounters a character missing from the current font and does not tell you. Not many fonts contain macron-o, so I would not be surprised if that was happening here. ID differs in highlighting missing characters with the "dreaded pink boxes," so sometimes the easiest way to check is, as, as J suggests, to select the character in ID and see how it is identified in the glyph palette.
    Good luck!

  • Arabic Unicode Character

    Dear Sirs,
    Could anyone please help me how I could convert Unicode Character to Arabic and then display on the console (Windows XP).
    For example
    String alif = "\u0625";
    System.out.println( alif );
    ONLY PRINTS ( Question Mar) ?
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks a lot.
    I beleive that the proper answer was to inform me that this is not java related and it windows O/S related.
    IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN, TRULY AND SINCERLY, THAT THIS IS NOT JAVA RELATED I WOULD NOT HAVE COME TO THE JAVA FORUM AND ASK SUCH QUESTION.
    I HAVE TESTED OTHER UNICODE CHARACTERS REGARDING OTHER LANGUAGES AND IT DISPLAYED PROPERLY. I ASKED MY SELF THERE MIGHT BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY CODE.
    THAT IS WHY I CAME TO THE JAVA FORUM AND ASKED MY QUERY.
    When I have checked the forum search, after your reply, I have seen that many people asked similar questions.
    Any way thanks a lot for your help and GOD BLESS.

  • How to insert special character from Oracle form builder 10g

    Dear all,
    I need help. how to insert special character like 'Superscript or Subscript ' from oracle form builder 10g. I had try in Oracle form builder 6i with press ALT+ASCII code in the text item and it work, but in the oracle form builder 10g this method doesn't work... would you like to help me...somebody please...
    Best Regard,
    Dedy P.T.

    What do you mean by insert ... from Forms Builder? Do you mean you want to add it as text in a string of pl/sql code or as part of boiler plate text (label) or a value on the Property Palette?
    For special characters you would need set NLS_LANG to something that would support the characters you want to use. For the Builder to see the change, you would need to set NLS_LANG to something like:
    NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8
    This can be done in the Windows Registry or system. As I mentioned, this will only apply to the Builder and will have nothing to do with a running form. For running forms you would need to set this in default.env. As for things like super and sub scripts, these are font formats and not necessarily characters. For the most part, I don't believe these are supported in Forms.

    I'm not sure.
    Perhaps UNISTR() or TO_NCHAR() will be helpful.
    select level, unistr(concat('\', TO_CHAR(Level, 'FM000X'))) from dual connect by level < 300;

  • How to get the hex. value of unicode character

    Hi all
    I would like to get the hex. value of unicode and vice versa. I tried
    String name1 = new String(request.getParameter("textfield").getBytes("ISO8859_1"), "UTF-8");
    but it just get the unicode character, not the "hex value"
    pls help
    thx.
    Regards,
    Kin

    String str = "asdf";
    char c = str.charAt(0);
    System.out.println(Integer.toString((int)c, 16));
    Is that what you want? Or are you thinking "hex value" is something it's not, which is just a way of writing numbers in base-16.

  • Special Unicode characters in RSS XML

    Hi,
    I'm using an adapted version of Husnu Sensoy's solution (http://husnusensoy.wordpress.com/2007/11/17/o-rss-11010-on-sourceforgenet/ - thanks, Husnu) to consume RSS feeds in an Apex app.
    It works a treat, except in cases where the source feeds contain special unicode characters such as [right double quotation mark  - 0x92  0x2019] (thankyou, http://www.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/GlobalBusiness.xml)
    These cases fail with

    ORA-19202: Error occurred in XML processing
    LPX-00217: invalid character 8217 (U+2019) Error at line 19
    Any ideas on how to translate these characters, or replace them with something innocuous (UNISTR?), so that the XML transformation succeeds?

  • Unicode character not displaying when PDF is created using PDFMaker

    Using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9
    Our company letterhead contains a special character (Unicode 25AA "Black Small Square"). When a PDF is created of a Microsoft Word document (2003 or 2007) using the PDFMaker, that character is not displayed in Acrobat (shows as whitespace). Strangely enough, if I search for the character in that PDF file using the Acrobat search function (query "u/25AA"), the search finds the character, but again, it is displayed as whitespace.
    However, if I create a PDF from that same Word document by printing to Adobe PDF, the character displays correctly in Acrobat. Additionally, if I do a SaveAs to PDF (Using the Microsoft plugin), the character displays correctly in Acrobat. This leads me to believe that muy issue is related to the PDFMaker (as opposed to the PDF printing function) and how the character is embedded into the PDF file. I have tried opening the PDF in other versions of Acrobat, but I get the same result.
    Any suggestions? We would like to utilize the convenience of the PDFMaker for our letters and reports, and not have to use the print function. I can email a sample of all the PDF's I spoke of upon request, but the issue should be reproducable using the following steps:
    1. Open MS Word and type (or copy from the Character Map) unicode character 25AA in Arial font.
    2. Save Word file.
    3. Use PDFMaker to create PDF file.
    4. Open PDF file and view results.
    Any guidance or help is appreciated.
    Phil Hinton

    First, check the fonts in the PDF to be sure that they are not embedded (you are likely correct that there is a problem). What job settings are you using. Try the press or print. Also check the job settings to be sure that ALL fonts are to be embedded.
    Also, check the log file of Distiller (set it to not be deleted in the settings). If there is an issue with the license of the font then the font will not be embedded. In that case you need to find a licensed version of the font or change to a different font.
