How to program encoder pulses in Signal Express to read out in degrees

I have people requesting a Signal Express application that can display rotary machine degrees (0.0-359.9), with input from an encoder to a 6602 counter card. Can this be done in Signal Express at all and if so, what is the easiest way to program it?

Hello David,
in the same way, i configured a linear position encoder.
In the continious sampling mode, I can't save the displacement channel.
Is there any other option to save the Channel witrh e.g. 20 kHz?

Andreas

  • How to combine both DAQ AI signal, write and read file in single VI

    Hi
I am the new user of LabVIEW version 7.1 for testing automation application. I have to measure 33 signals ( mostly analog like temp, pressure, etc...) from NI USB 6210 DAQ system and write in master file for future verfication. From real data or from master file back up have to write  one more file if only the signal reaches steady state , which will used for analysis and same signals to be read from this file parallely & make a waveform and/or table display format.
Pl. help me to shortout this problem
note: I have plan to ugrade labVIEW version 2011 shortly, so let me know doing parrel acquistion write and read file for data analysis in same VI in version 7.1......

Parallel operations in LabVIEW are very simple.  Just code it in parallel and it will work.
Try taking a look at some of the examples in the NI Example Finder (Help > Find Examples).  There you will find example for writing to and reading from files, as well as data acquistion in parallel with other operations.
You might need a producer/consumer architecture is you are acquiring data very quickly.

  • How to program encoder readings, using 7344

    Hi
I would like to do encoder readings on my motors.  I have a 7344 and LabVIEW.
I though 'Read Encoder Position.vi' is the one that I need to use.  But I could not find any samples with the vi, and could not understand how to use this VI and read encoder values.
Has anyone performed motor encoder reading on LabVIEW continuously?
Which VIs should I use?  Is there any sample?
Can I use external clock and read encoder values at the rate of the sample clock?
    Thanks in advance,
    Merry

    Merry,
'Read Encoder Position' is the correct function to use and there shouldn't be anything special about it, except the fact, that you need to enable the encoder beforehand. Hardware timed readings can be accomplished with the High Speed Capturing (HSC) feature (see examples). Please note, that on the 7344 HSC requires a software re-enable of the HSC circuitry after each occurrence of the external hardware trigger, limiting the effective sampling rate to a value in the region of 200 Hz (depending on the performance of your PC).
If you require faster position sampling rates, you should use an additional DAQ board, like an NI 6220, in an adjacent slot and route the encoder signals to the RTSI bus (PC) or PXI trigger lines (PXI-system).The DAQ board can use these lines to acquire clocked position data with rates of 10 kHz and above.
    I hope that helps,

  • Adding offset to LabView Signal Express signals

We are using a USB 6535 with LabView Signal Express.
The logging need is to record 8 channels of data, with each having 3 unique (0->5V) signals.
So far, only the first channel has been wired in an the logging inputs set up.
With a standard scope, there are offsets to offset a signal vertically, and to thus see the overall time relationship.
How is that done with LabView Signal Express?
Each channel's 3 signals need to be grouped together and then 8 channels vertically offset for visibility.
    Thanks

    Hello,
The best way I can think of is to create a constant signal (or however many you'd need) and add or subtract to the signals you are acquiring.  In SignalExpress, there's an Arithmetic step that is helpful for this.  The following KnowledgeBase article from our website offesr one way to do this in SignalExpress:

  • How to generarte encoder signals usign digital ouput lines?

    Hi
I want to generate encodr signals using the digital output line in my daq card. How can i accomplish this task.

If you have a multifunction DAQ device, then you could use a counter on the device to generate a TTL pulse signal. Counters can be used to generate a single pulse or continuous pulse trains.
I would suggest to look at example programs to find out how to program with counters. In LabVIEW, there are a variety of example programs that interface with counters. If you're using a text-based programming language, there are examples installed with NI-DAQ that can be found within the ...\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-DAQ\Examples directory.
    I hope this helps.

Living in an apartment, here it has only wireless (no wired cable in the room) signal using for the internet connection. I've  an airport express (new) ,so how can I do for extending signal (wireless) for using in myroom. because the wireless signal is so weak.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to. In order to do so, you would have to configure both the AirPort Express and the other wireless router for a WDS. Since it will unlikely that the other router is another AirPort, nor will you have the ability to administer it, you won't be able to get this accomplished.

    Hello Munir,
I have tested this issue and it works properly for me. I am able to load multicolumn data in signal express (see attachment).I look at your picture which you have posted. In fact the delimiter is empty in your task. Even this information is very important and could be a reason for this behaviour. Please look in your text file and find out which delimiter is using between several columns. For example I use a tabulator in my text file.(see attachment)
    I hope this helps.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this issue.

  • How to view signal in a waveform chart in Labview Signal Express?

    Hi,
I would like to view a signal in Signal Express 3.0  in a "waveform chart" but don't know how to do it and I am thinking that it may be impossible?
In Labview there are two ways of viewing data, either in a "waveform chart" or in a "waveform graph". The great thing with "waveform chart" is that it lets you define a history length and you can see the data move to the left (strip chart option) as the samples are being retrieved. It works perfect.
In Signal Express I can only select "XY graph" or "Waveform graph" by making a right-click the mouse but I cannot select "Waveform chart". Is it really true that it is not possible to view the data in a "waveform graph with Labview SE? (1 analog signal being read continuously, 100 samples to read at 1K rate)
    Thank you in advance,
    Enrique
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Enrique,
You are correct that there is currently no waveform chart in SignalExpress. The closest thing you can get to, is recording the data as a log and then viewing it while recording (which I realize is not quite the same, interactive behavior).
For your last comment, you wrote "waveform graph", but I assume you meant to say "chart" there as well.
Sorry about this. We have recently been getting this request, so perhaps in a future version.

  • How do I open/view Signal Express Data .tdms files? (Absolutely Brand New User!)

    Hi everyone,
I've inherited this data recording software from a previous engineer and tried it out for the first time the other week. Mind you I have no manuals or help really here, so bear with me that this is probably a very basic question.
I had a set-up using the Labview Signal Express ver.2.5 and NI-USB-6008 monitoring two voltages. I currently want to see the playback of the .tdms files which are located in my C:\Documents and Settings\TechSupport\My Documents\SignalExpress Data\08042009_015232_PM folder (3 files, voltage.tdms, voltage.tdms_index, and voltage_meta). I opened LabVIEW Signal Express and clicked "File", "Import", "Logged Signals From SignalExpress TDMS Files", and go to select the "voltage.tdms" file, but receive the error of "You cannot choose this folder name; a file of that name already exists".
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks for any and all help (and let the sarcastic comments begin )

Sometimes, selecting current folder instead of open is a valid workaround.
Also, can you identify the program responsible for creating the log data? Are you able to view this data using another progarm like LabVIEW or DIAdem?

probably a dumb question, but Im having to teach myself this program.

    "330u"

  • How to measure the pulse duration of a TTL signal using AI?

    Hi there.
I would like to know how to measure the pulse duration of a TTL signal using an Analog input.
These TTL signals comes from an ultrasonic sensor's output. The pulse width of the signal is
proportional to the distance of the object the sensor detected.
I have tried using the example "Measure Pulse Width.vi" which uses a counter to measure the
pulse duration instead. It provides me with correct results.
However, i will like to know how can i do it using the AI instead.
I tried it by using the example "Acq&Graph Voltage-Int Clk.vi" which i modified by including a
timing and transistion measurement vi. Pulse duration was selected as the output. A graph indicator was also added at the output of the pulse duration to monitor the incoming TTL signals.
However, everytime the TTL signals was detected on the graph indicator, the numeric indicator always produce a "zero" reading.
I have attached my vi for your reference.
Can anybody advice me what i have done wrongly?
    Regard.

    Acq&Graph Voltage-Int Clkv1.vi ‏190 KB

    Hi Paul,
Today i tried using 2 different methods to read the pulse duration of my sensor signal.
Both methods use "Acq&Graph Voltage-IntClk" vi as a guide.
    Method1:
Add a filter vi(lowpass/bandpass) and a timing and transition measurements vi.
Pulse duration is selected as the output. With some numeric conversion, a centimeter
reading indicator was created. However, the reading always remains as "zero"
    Method2:
Add a Mask and Limit Testing vi and a timing and transition measurements vi.
By adjusting my upper and lower limits, i manage to "filter" a single pulse out from the actual signal.
However, like the earlier case, the cm reading still remains at "zero"
I have attached both the methods resulted waveforms for your reference.
Are there anything that you can advice on?
    Regard.

  • Signal Express Program Freezes After Driver Install

    Hello,
I recently installed NI-XNET 1.4 on my machine and a few days later I went to run a signal express program that never had operational issue until after the driver install?
What could of happened to this program to cause this failure?
I have other SE programs that load effectively after the driver update but this particular one does not.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Tim

    Hi smoothdurban!  Thanks for posting!
I'd like to get a little more information from you to see if I can get your signal express programs back up and running.  First, have you changed anything in any of those programs since you were last able to run run them?  Also, have you changed any hardware in your computer recently? XNET and Signal Express exist basically independently of one another, which leads me to believe that the installation of XNET was not the issue.  However, one step to take to verify that nothing was altered in Signal Express during the XNET install would be to repair the Signal Express installation.
On a Windows machine, you'll want to go to your control panel under your start menu, then navigate to either "Add or Remove Programs" or "Programs and Features" depending on what version of Windows you are running.  You'll next want to navigate to National Instruments Software, then double-click.  Navigate through the list to find NI LabVIEW SignalExpress, then click the repiar icon in the window.  You will need the installation file you used previously to do this.
If this doesn't work, please let us know!

  • How do I get channel names written into a logged ascii file in Signal Express

    Hi there,
This maybe a rookie question but I am a relative rookie to this software, and I hope it has an easy fix!
    Background:
Take a load of analogue inputs from a DAQ device into Signal Express, first thing that hits me is that unlike labVIEW you cannot right click in the channel configuration window and change the name from say... Dev2_ai0 to Air Pressure? I feel that if this was possible then I would overcome my problem? anyway I can't so onwards...
I goto the DAQmx Acquire window on the top left and can right click and rename the channel, which is great... however this does not translate to the logged data as I get the ai0 channel names across the top of the columns and not the names that I have put in.
Is there anyway of getting data like the attached snippet?
Many thanks for your help in advance.

    Channel names.gif ‏4 KB

    Hi Dan,
Thanks for the reply, that has certainly fixed my issue as I wasn't expanding the channel and selecting the channel that I had renamed.
    One last thing though:
I now not only get the individual channel name but the prefix for the DAQmx Aquire, for instance I get the Input of Braketest and then the channels under the input data.
It looks a bit like this....
    Braketest - Front Pres
    Braketest - Rear Pres
    Braketest - FR Temp
    Braketest - FL Temp
    etc etc...
Now all of the channel names at the top of the columns have this long name. Can this be rectified? can I remove the "Braketest" bit?
By the way I am saving it as an ASCII so that I can read it in excel.
    Many thanks, Neil.
