How to read a .dbf file on 64 bit sql server?

We are running 64 bit windows server 2003 / sql server 2005.
I need to use openrowset to read a dbf file.
Is there ANY way to do that?

The basic issue is that 64 bit processes cannot load 32 bit dlls.  Many drivers only release in 32 bit mode.  I am not sure if there is an intent to add 64 bit drivers in the future.  There is a way to work around this issue, but it is sort of roundabout.  You can install SQL Express in 32 bit mode and double hop to the dbf file (or any other 32 bit only provider) through 64 bit SQLNCLI.  The 32 bit express instance can OPENROWSET using all the 32 bit drivers, and the 64 bit SQLNCLI provider can connect to the 32 bit express instance.
I hope that helps,
John

  • How to Read a CSV file using pure PL/SQL

    Hi friends - Is there a possibility to read a .TXT/CSV file from a local machine and display the contents on the form fields each record at one time.
    The logic to flow through the records can be build, but the problem is where to begin from to start reading the file using PL/SQL. I don't want to use any third party component/API as such. Is there any way in forms by using PL/SQL to read an external CSV file and interpret the contents.
    I have read about SQL * Loader on some sites but cannot find any way to invoke it on windows platform. There seems to be UNIX commands to invoke the .CTL file that is used by SQL Loader. Any help is much apreciated.
    Rgds

    Hi Thanks for your replies, TEXT_IO seems to be a solution but not very comprehensive as it provides limited exposed functions to perform complex operations while read and write of files.
    I think SQL*Loader is a valid solution, but as I stated in my original quote Im not able to invoke it from the command prompt. The command that is shown on the suggested URL(http://www.orafaq.com/faqloadr.htm) is not found on my machine. I have Windows 2K installed. Is there a seperate patch or a download available from where I can get that .EXE to invoke the utility.
    Thanks..

  • BO Data Services - Reading from excel file and writing to SQL Server Table

    Hi,
    I would like to read data from an excel file and write it to a SQL Server Data base table without making any transformations using Data Services. I have created an excel file format as source and created target table in SQL Server. The data flow will just have source and target. I am not sure how to map the columns between source and target. Appreciate your quick help in providing a detailed steps of mapping.

  • How to save 150MB BLOB file in the database(SQL server)?

    Dear experts,
    I have written some code to save BLOB into a MS SQLserver7.0 database as follows:
    PreparedStatement ps=connection.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO jdbctest" + "(id, content, image) VALUES (?,?,?)");
    ps.setString(1,"2");
    ps.setString(2,"L11.avi");
    ps.setObject(3,data);
    It works for upto 12MB but for files that are as big as 150MB I always get an SQLException as follows,
    "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
    <<no stack trace available>>" .
    The SQLserver7.0 database is running on NT server 4. The client machine is SGI UNIX. I'm using i-net JDBC driver.
    It seems I should break the BLOB into chunks before saving into SQLserver but I don't know how to do it.
    Can someone please advise?
    THANKS!
    Yu

    Could you tell me more about it? Thanks.Depends on the application.
    For example for internal use you can set up a shared drive and then everyone gets a mapped read only access to it. Then you use a direct drive reference.
    For external, or just wider internal distribution, you could set up a ftp server. Then the address is just an ftp address.
    I believe there are other variations which can be implemented via browsers and support by the websever. For example loading a word doc via the browser.
    The advantage to the above is that you don't have to push it into the database and it allows for some more flexible storage alternatives. The disadvantages are all the things you might want a database for - like concurrency checking and a single source.

    How to read a text file through pl/sql

    pl/sql runs inside the database. so your file also should be on the database server file system for you to be able to read.
    check out UTL_FILE package. This is the database package to read/write files on the database server.

    Exec_Sql Package allows you to acess non Oracle Database
    You will have to follow following steps as follows:-
    1-First Find OCA.PLL and EXEC_SQL.PLL libraray.
    2-Attach Both libraries to ur concerned Forms.
    3-Create VFP odbc driver.
    3-Create a Button to write follwing codes on WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger or u can write
    these code on any Trigger as you required.

  • How to read multiple dat files.

    Hello Everyone!
    I am working on a project that requires one file that creates a JFrame with a current file title, JTextFields that accesses two .dat files and a JButton.
    The user clicks a JButton to cycle through the first sequential .dat file. When the end of the first file is reached the file is closed, the JFrame title is changed to the second file title as the user continues to click the JButton to continue on viewing the second file?s records, until the second reaches the end of file.
    The project requires using Try-Catches to catch the EOF exceptions and IOExceptions and Thread or Runnable.
    I have been able to get one file to read and display its records; however, researching back through my text on how to read/write to files I haven?t been able to determine how to get to the end of the file and proceed to the next file without triggering the EOFException. I have even tried multiple Try-Catches (one for each file within the actionPerformed method) and that ends up ignoring the first file records and only displays the second files records.
    This is a school project and we have only covered just the bare basics of Java over the last two months. So, any hints that anyone can provide can only be of what type of procedure will be needed or what procedure won?t help to complete the task, without giving away the solution.
    I have spent approximately 40 hours of study time on this project and believe that I have definitely run into a major snag.
    The following is the code I have so far:

    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;

  • How to read a text file using Java

    Guys,
    Good day!
    Please help me how to read a text file using Java and create/convert that text file into XML.
    Thanks and God Bless.
    Regards,
    I-Talk

         public void fileRead(){
                 File aFile =new File("myFile.txt");
             BufferedReader input = null;
             try {
               input = new BufferedReader( new FileReader(aFile) );
               String line = null;
               while (( line = input.readLine()) != null){
             catch (FileNotFoundException ex) {
               ex.printStackTrace();
             catch (IOException ex){
               ex.printStackTrace();
         }This code is to read a text file. But there is no such thing that will convert your text file to xml file. You have to have a defined XML format. Then you can read your data from text files and insert them inside your xml text. Or you may like to read xml tags from text files and insert your own data. The file format of .txt and .xml is far too different.
