How to read data over tcp/ip using labview

Hi,
I have a network enabled force transducer (6-axis load cell). I know its IP addr. and the data format it is sending the data out (7 32-bit DWORD, One status and 6 axis force data) . I have been playing around with the simple data client.vi example program.
When I executed the program using the devices IP addr. I used to get error 63: TCP/IP connection open. Then I ran the program using localhost in IP addr field, the program executes now indefinetly at one block only. I am attaching the screenshot for ref.
Thanks.
Sasi.

Hello,
I'm wondering if you can create a rather simple VI that just tries to open and close a TCP connecting to your transducer. All you would need is a TCP Open and a TCP Close wired together with the proper IP address etc. Does this run? I did look to see if there was any NetFT information and I could not find anything. I feel that the problem lies in the communication protocol between your transducer. Another place to see if you can connect to it would be to try hyperterminal. You can access this in Windows XP by clicking Start»All Programs»Accessories»Communications»HypeTermina. Using this, you can try and connect to your instrument with TCP/IP outside of LabVIEW. You might also want to get in contact with the manufacturer to verify that third-party software can indeed communicate with it. There may be a specific set of instructions that need to be sent to the transducer in order to initiate the connection and then read from it. These may be in the form of serial commands that would need to be sent over TCP. What is the make and model of your transducer?

  • [SOLVED] How To Read Data Over /dev/ttyUSB0

So...I am using a serial device connected to a Keyspan Serial-to-USB adapter and plugged in to my computer's USB port. The device is constantly sending 115200 baud data over UART, with no parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no flow control, and no handshaking. I can read the data just fine on my Windows machine (once I install the Keyspan driver). On Arch64, I notice that when I plug it in, /dev/ttyUSB0 shows up so I believe that means the kernel is recognising the device and already has drivers to handle it. I would like to simply see the output of the device through my terminal emulator so I have written the following script....
    stty -F /dev/ttyUSB0 115200 cs8 -cstopb -parenb
    while true; do
    read LINE < /dev/ttyUSB0
    echo $LINE
    done
When I run this script as root, however, I get no output. I have also tried appending "-icanon min 1 time 1" to the stty arguments list but also to no avail. Can anyone help? Thanks!!

    Thanks, all for the responses!
perbh: I wasn't sure exactly how to implement your suggestion. If the cat line doesn't use the variable, "$LINE", how can "echo $LINE" work? I am probably missing something simple...
Well, I have had a little success. The following script creates blank lines whenever data comes in through the usb device. Basically the device sends FFT data whenever it hears a sound which is greater than a certain threshold, so when I snap my fingers near it I see the FFT data show up in Terminal on Windows. Now, with the script below, if I snap my fingers my Linux machine outputs a bunch of blank lines so basically I just see my linux terminal emulator scrolling whenever I snap my fingers Does anyone have any ideas how to get the actual data on Linux? Thanks again!
    stty -F /dev/ttyUSB0 115200 cs8 -cstopb -parenb
    while true; do
    read -n 8 LINE < /dev/ttyUSB0
    echo $LINE
    done

  • Reading data over tcp/ip network

    Hi
I have a control network and I log my database using citadel, in MAX 4.7 (LABVIEW8.2.1).
My weird situation is: I can read the data in one client, but in another client I can't.
To be more specific: In the 2nd client the relevant folder is shown for several minutes and disappears afterwards
Anyone has an idea what's wrong?
    Thank you!

I really don't understand where is the lack of info in relation to other posts.
I have a PCs network, one is gathering data and save it in a citadel DB, the second is capable of reading the data from the DB and the third does not..
That's my case and I wanted to consult with anyone who had something similar
And what does the code look like? You are not giving us enough information to help you. Without seeing the code one can only guess at what is happening and chances are we will guess wrong. Do you call your car mechanic over the phone and say "my car is making a funny noise" and expect him to know what the problem is without seeing the car itself. You are doing just that. Yes you have a network. Good for you. Yes, one computer works and once does not. Beyond that very limited information you have not given us any information. Are the computers the same? Same OS, same configuration, same network, same security settings? How are you connecting to the DB? Which toolkit are you using? How did you implement it in your code. See, these are all pieces of information that will help to solve your problem. You if you are relucant to give us any meanigful information I doubt you will get the answers you are looking for.

  • How to counter data skips while acquiring using LabView

    Dear enthusiasts:
I am using PCI-6031E measurement hardware and a self built LabView program to acquire data from a mp3 player. I am using AI configure, AI start and AI clear(Labview commands) in a loop so that buffer is cleared after each second(say). This is an improvement on its earlier version as it doesnot store the whole length of data in a buffer preventing crashes. But since I am configuring and starting data acquisition after each second, my data has skips at the beginning of each second. How do I modify my program to counter this. I am attaching a jpeg file to show the skip and the labview program.

Your first program is really the way you want to go. To prevent glitches in a continuous acquisition you certainly only want to do the Configure, Start, and clear outside of the loop. To prevent problems in this configuration you can tweak a couple things. First, the buffer size doesn't have to be as large as your entire acquisition - in fact it doesn't need to be anywhere near that large. Usually 2 to 3 times the amount of samples you are reading at a time should be sufficient. Second, you can alter the amount of samples to read at a time in the loop. The larger the number, the less overhead there is since you are grabbing larger chunks from the buffer at a time.
If you continue to have problems with the original program, just post back. Also, in the futur
e, I would recommend posting to the LabVIEW or DAQ group rather than DSC - you'll get a lot more and quicker responses that way.

  • How to send joystick data over TCP connection

    Hi all,
I am a long time Labview discussion forum user for learning, but this is my first time posting a question, I hope somebody can help me!
In the attached VI I am trying to send data from a joystick over a TCP connection. I can send data fine using the TCP examples (in fact the majority of my VI is just a copy of the example). However I am to the point where I do not know how to send all the data necessary (3 axis data, 12 buttons, and the POV data) over TCP. Strings, clusters, and arrays were never my strong suite and converting between them is a nightmare for me.
Basically I am trying to send each axis data (X,Y, and Z), button data (12 buttons), and POV data (the POV data will be calculated to adjust the position of a camera, so the immediate data is not important, I will add functions to add the change in the button movements to write a standing position for two servos [pan and tilt], for which that I will need to send over the TCP connection) over the TCP connection to control various cameras and motors. I don't know if it is posible to send that much data over a TCP connection in one write VI through a string, and also how to separate the string on the other side in order to control the client VI.
Again, the actual TCP communication I get, and can operate fine, just formatting all the data into a string (or whatever is required) so that I can unpack on the other side is the issue here.
Another question I have (not impotant to get the program running just might make it easier on me) is can a TCP server (which sends the data to the client) also recieve data back from the client on the same port ( for example sensor data and digital positions [on,off])? Or do I need to set up two TCP communication loops with the first client acting as the server on a different port than the first, which then sends the data to the original server, which also has a client TCP configuration in another loop? I hope this makes sense...
One final question.....I already have a solution to this but using labview for the entirety of this project would be nice. I use skype to stream 1080p video from a webcam to my computer so I can view live feed. Can labview do this? This would be awesome if so, I am just not sure if the communication protocols in use could support real time (or as close as possible to streaming) for 1080p video.
Thanks all in advance for your help,

Well, you cast the axis info cluster to a string, but then you cast it back to an array of DBL. Thatr's not compatible. You should probably cast it back to an "axis info" cluster of exactly the same type. Go the the other VI and right-click the cluster wire to create a constant. Now move that diagram cluster constant to the other VI and use it as type.
Your default ports don't seem to match. You seem to have client and server roles confused. In the sever you create a listener, but then you start sending packets, even though no connection is established. The connection needs to be initiated by the client.
Your client stops the loop the first time a timeout is encountered. Shouldn't that be more permanent? Also, please retain code clarity and avoid unecessary complexities. For example, replace the "not or" with a plain "or" and change the loop to "stop if true"

You can send as much as you want. The casting to/from string is the same as described above.

The primary function of a "server" is to wait for a connection and then communicate with the client once a conenction is established. An established TCP/IP connection is fully two-way and both sides can send and receive.

  • I need to find out how much wifi data my apps are using. I have a very limited amount of wifi data, and I am exceeding my monthly allowance. Apparently, even apps I think are not open are sending/receiving data through the wifi and using up my allowance.

I need to find out how much wifi data my apps are using. I am on a very limited amount of WiFi data each month, which I am regularly exceeding. I have been told to work out which of my apps is using the data. Also, I think I have closed an app by double clicking the home button, then swiping the app up - is this the way to close it, or will it still be sending/receiving data?

Go into your Settings : General : and turn off background refresh for your apps.  In Settings : Mail  turn Fetch new data to OFF and Load Remote Images to OFF.  This will mean that Mail will only check for messages when you actually use it, and all your advertising junk mail won't have all the images in it.
Turn off push notifications every chance you get.
Make sure you are actually quitting apps:  to quit apps press the Home button twice and you should see a bunch of smaller screen images for every open app.  To quit the app swipe from the screen image (not the icon) upward off the top of the iPad.  You can swipe left and right to see more open apps, but there must be no left-right movement on the screen when you swipe upward to close the app.
Turn off your internet connection when you do not need it.  The easiest way to do this is to swipe up from the bottom of you screen to get the control centre, and then touch the airplane to turn on airplane mode.  You can repeat this sequence to turn it back on again when you need it.  Most especially turn airplane mode on whenever you are sleeping your iPad for long periods.  This will save battery life too.  OR actually turn your iPad off - which means holding the power key down for several seconds until the red swipe bar appears, and then swipe to turn it off.  If you go this route, note that it will take longer to turn on then it takes to wake from sleep.
