How to read document in SQL

I have an XMLDb install under 9iR2.
When I put a document, let us say a Word 2003 .xml document inside XMLDB via webdav or ftp it is stored somewhere in the database.
Now I want to access the file contents from SQL as a whole, that is put the file contents in a varchar or clob column for instance, for later processing.
It seem that something like :
select extract(res,'/r:Resource/r:Contents',
'xmlns:r="http://xmlns.oracle.com/xdb/XDBResource.xsd"').getClobVal() from resource_view
... but then I get ORA19202 : namespace prefixes starting with xml are reserved
Is there a way to simply get the file contents, knowing the Web dav URL ?
Thanks in advance

This question should be asked in the XMLdb forum, which has it's own webdav implementation.

Be sure you have the latest version of Adobe Reader installed (the free one). Incidentally, there is a Mac-specific version (you indicated you were new to Macs in your profile).

  • How to read documents in Polish

    Hi,
Our company has received some documents from a client which are written in Polish. Most words you can read, but some have letters that are replaced with boxes.
Do I just need to get the font that these documents were written in, or do I have to install a Polish language pack or something similar?
    Thanks

    +Welcome to the forums, Rococomuse!+
In System Preferences > International > "Input Menu" tab:
Select Keyboard Viewer (at the top)
    Select Polish
Select "Show input menu in menu bar" (at the bottom)
Use the 'flag' menu in your menu bar to:
       Show Keyboard Viewer
toggle between English and Polish layouts
You will see the changes immediately in the Keyboard Viewer panel.
You will have to determine for yourself how you want to work - you can switch back and forth between the English (or British) and Polish keyboard layouts, or learn where letters are in the Polish layout - you can use your real keyboard or click on the Viewer, etc.
Wait to see what Tom says - he may have a better suggestion.

  • Reading BLOB from SQL Server 2005 using DB Link from Oracle 10g

    Hi All,
I am trying to read a table's data from SQL Server 2005 using ODBC DB Link created in Oracle 10g (10.2.0.3/4) database. I am not using oracle gateway.
I am able read all data except for the BLOB data from SQL server 2005. It gives error given below when I try to execute query SELECT * from T_TRANSACTION_DATA@sdeslink inside a stored procedure:
ORA-22992: cannot use LOB locators selected from remote tables
Kindly help how to read BLOB from SQL server 2005 inside Oracle 10g.
    Best Regards!
    Irfan

    Irfan,
If you can read the blob data using 10.2 HSODBC then there should be no problem using the 11g gateway.
I recommend you download the latest version which is 11.2.0.3 available from My oracle Support as -
Patch 10404530: 11.2.0.3.0 PATCH SET FOR ORACLE DATABASE SERVER
This is a full version and does not need a previous version to have bene installed. When installing it needs to be in a completlely separate ORACLE_HOME from the existing 11.2 install.
For the Ora-22992 problem have a look at this note in My Oracle Support -
    Ora-22992 has a workaround in 10gR2 (Doc ID 436707.1)

How to read word document which is stored as BLOB column in table.
I want to read it word by word. Please explain me how to raed using DBMS_lob
    package and substr,instr.

You cannot. A Microsoft Word document is in a proprietary binary format. You cannot treat it as a text file and read "word-by-word" from it.
As for examples - refer to the [url http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14258/toc.htm]Oracle® Database PL/SQL Packages and Types Reference manual. It describes DBMS_LOB and its usage in detail.

You can only manipulate LOBs in PL/SQL because you have to use the DBMS_LOB package.

  • How to read a XML file from BLOB column and insert in a table - PL/SQL Only

    Hi,
To make data load more simple to end user instead placing file on the server and use SQL-LOADER, I came up with new idea that using oracle ebusiness suite attachment functionality. that loads a XML file from local PC to a database column(table is fnd_attachments, default data type is BLOB over here).
I tried with DBMS_LOB and didnt get around.
Please can anyone tell me how to read the BLOB column using PL/SQL and store the data in a oracle table. Here's the sample XML file and table structure FYI.

  • How to check paragraph in Reader document using API?

    Hi,
When I extract the content of the PDF (Reader) document through .Net code, I could see only carriage return character ('\r') when it's a new line.
But with '\r' character, I can not say whether it's normal new line or it's a paragraph.
Please let me know if Adobe has got any API which can show how to differentiate between 'a new line' and 'a paragraph'.
    E.g.:
    Test Test Test
Test Test Test  <- I can easily say it's start with a new line.
              Test Test Test Test Test
Test Test Test Test Test Test.
Test Test Test Test Test  <- This is a paragraph but how to check from the code?
Test Test Test Test Test Test
Test Test Test Test Test Test.

We use 'PDDocCreateWordFinder' , 'PDWordFinderEnumWords' to extract the text from Adobe Reader document through Code, Not tool.
But, by using these APIs, I can't see any difference in 'new line/row' or 'paragraph' if exists in PDF doc.
I need such API which can give the exact format of Adobe Reader doc according to the content exists in that PDF doc.
    Thanks!

It sounds like you have a PDF saved on iCloud Drive and would like to view that on your iPad. To view a PDF on your iPad, you would either need to sync from your computer view it from an email attachment. For more information on these processes, please refer to the attached article.

pl/sql runs inside the database. so your file also should be on the database server file system for you to be able to read.
