How to read specific fields from BW table into ABAP?

Hi Experts,
Can someone help me how to use to FM: RFC_READ_TABLE to read specific fields from a BW table '/bic/zcust_chO01' which DOESN't EXIST IN ABAP.
I am getting an error in OPTIONS & DATA parameters.
Any help would be higly appreciated with points.

Dan,
FM: RFC_READ_TABLE is a RF FM so by providing BW system's RF destination you can get the values from required table.
TRY this:
CALL FUNCTION RFC_READ_TABLE destination <BW_RF_destination>

first find the link between mara , marc and zperson , if u have link to 3 tables then u can jus write a join and populate the table u want ( thats final table with all the fields).
u defenitely have alink between mara and marc so join them and retrieve all data into one internal table.
then for all the entries in that internal table retrieve data from zperson into another internal table.
then loop at one internal table
read another internal table where key equals in both the tables.
finally assign fileds if sy-subrc = 0.
gs_finaltable-matnr = gs_table-matnr
etc...
and finally append gs_finaltable to gt_finaltable.
there u go ur final table has all the data u want.

Let say now i wanna print employee list, so i will go
1. Main Menu -> Reports -> HR -> Employee List
2. Choose the Selection Criteria -> OK
3. Matrix will display (Employee List)
4. I can print the report click on print button
5. Printing report
My target
1. Main Menu -> Eric_SubMenu -> Employee List
2. Matrix will display (Employee List)
3. Print button
4. Print report
My problem
Now I would like to use my own report format. My own report format means I wanna add on my logo or do some customization within the employee report. So how I am going to do? I only able to display the employee list in matrix. How do I create a new report format and display it.

Hello,
Try to do it in the DO_PREPARE_OUTPUT mathod before calling super->do_prepare_output( ). What we need to do is,
1. get the collection from context node ( get_collection_wrapper )..
2. filter the entity based on the value ( using iterator !!! )
3. set back to context node
4. call super->do_prepare_output.

-sprintf
-WriteFile

My objective is to read data 0.666666 (FYI: is last sentence of the file) to do some calculation. How can we read specific data(specific location) from file..

I would consider counting line feeds and checking for end-of file to isolate the last line, which then can be read using fscanf...
Have a look at getc...

I am able to read the values before edited and after editing. Code i have written is in the ONENTER action method. I have simply read the Table node values.
1. Applicaiton data
2. Values In Debugging mode by clicking on Enter button on the second row.
3. Edit second value and click on Enter

You can only manipulate LOBs in PL/SQL because you have to use the DBMS_LOB package.

Dear all experts,
I am able to populate all fields data from database table, using dynamic table creation.
eg,
SELECT * FROM (w_tabname) INTO TABLE <t_itab>.
where w_tabname is the table name given by the user, and t_itab is field symbol.
but some requirement is like that i need to pick up only few fields, which user will give at the runtime.
I can take those fields from file into any internal table,
but the problem is that instead of select *, i need to put selected the fields given by user.
i have tried with field symbol, it is not working (as per my knowledge.)
do i need to create any structures dynamically ?
Can anybody please help in this regards ?

Adding to the below code , you can use some more fields in the select stmt as below:-
REPORT ychatest.
PARAMETERS : p_field1 LIKE dd03l-fieldname,
 P_field2 LIKE dd03l-fieldname,
 p_table LIKE dd03l-tabname.
FIELD-SYMBOLS : <fs> TYPE STANDARD TABLE.
SELECT (p_field1) (p_field2) ( FROM (p_table) INTO TABLE <fs>.
Now p_field1 & p_field2 belong to the same table since you have give the user to enter only one table name.
This should work fine.

Read Infopackage selection from a table using ABAP

Hello Experts,
I have a flat file consisting of 3 columns which I want to use as selection fields for the Infopackage. Now, is it possible to load this flat file to an ODS or a master data table and then write some ABAP in the Infopackage to read the values of the columns and populate the selection fields.
This is what I want: The columns of the flat file are - Company Code, Doc number, Fiscal Year
Now, I loaded this file into a tables (around 2 million records) and then use ABAP to populate the entire file into the selection tab of the Infopackage.
What would be the best approach for this?

Hi,
It's possible in theory. Just one thing, too many selections in an InfoPackage may not work (I remember about 1,000 or 10,000, not very sure).
I'd like suggest loading a range rather than so many selections. For example, say you have below documents:
1000
1001
1005
1010
Then just load from 1000 to 1010, and create a start routine in your update rule/transformation. There you can do this:
1. select records from the table where you store flat file, using the same selection (1000 to 1010)
2. For every records in DATA_PACKAGE, using READ TABLE statement to check whether that record exist in the table. If not exist then simply delete it from DATA_PACKAGE
I think that would have much better performance. Let us know if you have further questions.

How to get Ethnicity field from IT 77 into BI

We are in middle a new implementation of BI HCM and users want Ethnicity & Ethnic origin fields in BI. I can see Ethnic Origin as a attribute of Employee but can't find Ethnicity anywhere in standard BI content. What is the simplest way to get Ethnicity field from IT 77 (maintained by client) into BI.

I would recommend enhancing the 0EMPLOYEE_ATTR DataSource by adding the Ethniticty column in an append structure of the extraction structure for that DataSource. Then to populate that field in the 0EMPLOYEE_ATTR DataSource, create a User Exit in CMOD (Function Module EXIT_SAPLRSAP_002).
Then on BW, you're going to need to replicate the modified DataSource and in the 0EMPLOYEE InfioObject make sure you identify the attribute for Ethnicity as Navigational or Display. Then update the transformational processes to load into 0EMPLOYEE. Finally, you will need to add this custom InfoIObject to other InfoProvider(s) that you need it in (if any) to meet your end customer reporting requirements.

There are various ways to do this. I would be inclined to use SQL*Loader. That way you can load it from the client or the server and you can use a SQL*Loader sequence to preserve the row order in the text file. I would load the whole row as a varray into a staging table, then use the TABLE and MOD functions to load the individual numbers from only the odd rows. Please see the demonstration below.

in SD the order,delivery or invoice , evrything has field name vbeln.
only difference is which table your are referreing.
if you are working on VBAk, the vbeln will give the sales order..
if in LIPs, it will give delivery while in VBRK for vbeln you will get invoice number.
VBFA will give you the complete flow of order, delivery and invoice
e.g:-
Find sales order number and item from the delivery document
number and delivery item no by using sales document flow table
    select single VBELV POSNV from VBFA into ITAB where
           VBELN = mseg~oivbeln and         "delievry
           POSNN = mseg~oiposnr,     and "Delivery item
           VBTYP_N = 'J'.
