How to relink missing links that have no extensions

I'm working with files received from another company. All the InDesign files have links listed in the Links palette with no extensions. The actual link files themselves HAVE extensions (mostly .jpg, some .psd, .ai, .pdf, etc.). All the links show up as missing, and when I try to relink them I have to do them all individually, even though all the necessary links are in the same folder (just WITH extensions). I've tried "Relink to Folder" and "Relink File Extension," but because there isn't an extension to begin with, it's just not working. It's really time-consuming to relink them one at a time, since there are about 40 InDesign files that average about 40 links each. Any ideas?

Yes, I know extra periods in the filename is a big no-no. This is another unfortunate aspect of the project. It is the naming convention used for hundreds of links. I have software for batch file renaming, but for this project, I really want to avoid changing the filenames. This is the first of 12 similar projects, all with the same problem, so my hope is to find a solution that will help both now and in the future.
All involved in the project are aware of the problem, and in order to save the budget we're trying to research all options for correcting the files.
John, you seemed to think this is scriptable. I googled and tried a script that seemed to solve a similar issue, but it didn't work out. My coworker is going to see if he can modify the script to adapt to our needs, but in the meantime I think I'll post in the scripting forum. Any help you can offer would be great.

Place that first folder of photos that you synced to the iPad within the main folder of photos that you sync from and select them to sync again. You can place any number of subfolders within the main folder that you sync from and select those folders to sync. Just "tick"(select) the folders in the photos tab in iTunes.

Depends how they were transferred. If you used Migration Assistant, a new user was created. Look there in your documents folder. If you used Setup Assistant, look in your documents folder.

First, to access documents you must use an app designed for that specific Document type. So Pages will not be able to open PDFs. The Documents app by Readdle can handle PDFs though. In the latter case, you'd open the app, click the menu icon at its top left, and click Open to go to your iCloud Drive. With Pages, if you had files outside the main Pages folder, click + then iCloud and navigate to the file's location.

I assume you're using Portal 3.0 (it always helps to mention which portal version you're using).
I suggest you search this forum for "new window". You'll find several threads discussing how to implement this feature in Portal 3.0.

Should be able to do so from the Users pane (select the user then click the "-" below the list of users. That worked for me with all but one out of five users I deleted. No matter what, their Wiki person page remained, so I hid it from view.

Yest it will restore photos deleted from yur iOd probvide that the photos were taken before the the last synce/backyp was made. Make syre yu have automatic syncing turned off (Itunes>Preference>Devices>Check the box that says prevent auto syncing when connected). Otherwise when connected, a backup that reflects the deleted photos will be made and will replace the previous backup.

Import does not recognize old image files that have no extension

Just discovered that the import facility does not see (or accept) old Mac image files that have no extension -- even if these files have a Mac "kind" that is an image such as "Adobe Photoshop file".
You can manually add an extension to the file (and respond to an "are you sure?" dialog). Then the file will be seen and accepted.
This is extremely dangerous (and painful to manually correct) since you think you are seeing all images in the import box, but you are not.
In fact, I deleted huge image directories after having satisfactorally (I thought) imported them into Aperture many months ago. Most of the old extension-less files had been updated and did have extensions in later versions. However, I missed one important image and looked everywhere for it.
By a miracle I had a backup of my image directories on a Power Book that I am retiring and finally noticed that the missing image was there just before deleting that directory too! I then figured out why this image (and many others) had not been imported. So, now I am going through manually and adding extensions.
Does anyone know a better way -- to get Aperture to recognize extension-less images? If not, this needs to fixed in the next version as it is a disaster waiting to happen.

Well there's an idea...probably would need to go into Bridge <g> to do that most efficiently .. or Automator.
It turns out that I already had added extension to most (but not all) images in my main image directory and so they got into Aperture alright. I just have to go through all the images in the backup I just found (where many did not get extensions) to find the ones that Aperture missed. So far, there have been just a couple more...
The real problem is that Aperture should not be missing these, even if they are archaic. At the very least, Aperture's import should give a warning that there are files in a folder that it is not going to import AND is not even showing. Otherwise this is a serious gotcha!

Hi Richl,
In the Links panel, highlight the images you want to relink (shift + click to select a range), and click on the leftmost icon at the bottom of the panel (looks like two chain links). You'll be presented with a menu to locate your missing links. If the links in the panel show a yellow rectangle next to them, the link simply needs to be updated, and to do that you click the update icon at the bottom of the links panel.

How to find all photos that have NO faces, as opposed to UNNAMED faces?

I find that iPhoto often misses faces entirely, especially if the face is wearing sunglasses or a hat or both. Sometimes it is rather inexplicable that it has missed a face, as the face seems obvious.
If you use the smart album method to find all "unnamed" faces, the photos have at least one unnamed face identified. You can then add any missed faces to those photos.
But what about photos in which iPhoto has failed to identify the existence of even one face? Or for that matter, if I want to see only pictures of landscapes or objects that have no people? Does anyone have a method for finding all photos that have no faces in them at all?
For me, the idea is to find all unidentified faces and add them. But as I pointed out above, there may be other uses for this.
Any ideas, anyone?

I don't know if you have written any of these yourself, but do you know how to maybe create a smart playlist with this information via script? If not, no big deal. At least I know have something which I can use, I will just have to run it every so often.

Check: Go to page view, Next (Create go to view dialog opens)
Open second document and go to page
Click “Create go to view dialog” to set up link
Result is a link, when view by link properties, with an action of

But is there a more direct way that actual sets up a “a link of the type Go to a page in another document” so if it's "advanced edited" its the same as the manual set links?
I would like to setup a set of pdf documents, on the hard disk of a PC or Mac, that can be open with acrobat pro running on the same computer and have the link jump to, and open in a new window, in acrobat pro, to a given page of a second document in the set.

(note I have limited understanding of Mac’s)

If you use buttons instead, it is possible to script adding the actions that you want. It involves creating a properly constructed FDF, saving it, and then importing it into the document.
