How to Resolve Five Squares with dbconsole on Oracle Database 11g

I've seen several references on this site about dbconsole and five squares, but I haven't found a resolution to my situation. So far, I have done the following on fresh hardware:
- Installed Oracle Database 11.1.0.6 on Solaris 10
- Patched to 11.1.0.7
- Applied CPUJUL2009
- Created a database (let's call it db1)
- Did not check to see if dbconsole worked on db1
- Dropped the db1 database
- Created a second database, db2
- Tried to use dbconsole on db2 with http://10.10.10.43:1158/em/console/aboutApplication (because DNS is not configured on my client PC); this resulted in the display of five squares, but nothing else on the web page
- Tried to use dbconsole on db2 with https://10.10.10.43:1158/em/console/aboutApplication and got a page not found error
Here is the output from the dbconsole status:
emctl status dbconsole

Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g is running.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

Good Morning.
I had the same problem and I had the same IE 6, the problem was the translation between the IE6 from http and https, to solve it you just need to open your url typing
https:url:port, do no forget to put the s after the http, with this my problem was solved.
best regards.

    Hi Portal Experts,
we are planning to install Netweaver 04s sp stack 9 full java edition with Oracle 8i on windows platform.
we have the installation docs of portal but we didn't have any idea about how to configure Portal server with the Backend Oracle database at the time of installation or after ost installation of portal.can anyone provide the documentation about this or guide me how to achieve this.
PLZ share ur views---your help would be highly appreciable.

    Phani.

    HI
if you r working in Sap enterprise portal use for connection url
    jdbc:sap:sqlserver://ilsql01.tlv.sap.corp:1433;DatabaseName=Northwind
ilsql01.tlv.sap.corp:1433 this is your portal url with port number
    Northwind is your database name.
for dirver you need to give
    com.sap.portals.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver
in case if you r working on other than sap say windows along with oracle try to use
    Connection URL as jdbc:oracle:<drivertype>:@<database>
    Driver name as oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
    ex jdbc:oracle:thick:@localhost:3036:mydb
Oracle implements two types of JDBC drivers:
Thick JDBC drivers built on top of the C-based Net8 client, as well as a Thin (Pure Java) JDBC driver to support downloadable applets. Oracle JDBC drivers are used to create JDBC applications to communicate with Oracle databases.
Oracle extensions to JDBC include the following features:
    Data access and manipulation
    LOB access and manipulation
    Oracle object type mapping
    Object reference access and manipulation
    Array access and manipulation
    Application performance enhancement

If you create a new application and try to create a new JSF page there are you still getting this error?

  • Problems with installation of Oracle Database 11g, Enterprise edition

I am having trouble with the whole DHCP setting on my windows vista business OS.
I went throught the steps to install a loopback adapter which is supposed to be a solution for DHCP-enabled computers. When I check to see if I have a loopback adapter, it is showing that it is the "local area connection 2."
But at some point during the installation, it says that I need to make the loopback adapter the primary network setting. Is this what is preventing a successful installation? I went through the installation process to the end despite this error message and it seemed to install ok. I created a database using the Database Config Manager. Now I am having trouble accessing this database. Is this related to the error message I described above?
I created a username and password at the database creation page.
When I go into command prompt I type in "sql plus" and then my username and password.
But it says "ORACLE not available."
Any help would be much appreciated.

Don't bother with a loopback adapter unless you are using a laptop that needs Oracle to work whether connected or unconnected to the business network. Much simpler to just arrange for DHCP to assign you a fixed IP address (a lease reservation).
It's the change of IP address which trips Oracle up, not the existence of DHCP. So if you can make sure your IP address will be the same, no matter how you acquire it, that's all you have to do.
Installing a loopback adapter which isn't the primary interface at the point you install Oracle will mean your installation will get very confused as to whether to address things via the 127... address or the "normal" IP address. And yes, at that point, you'll not be able to connect to instances, or run listeners or do all sorts of other things reliably.
If it were me, I'd uninstall the mess you probably now have as far as Oracle goes, install something like VirtualBox (free) or VMware Workstation (costs) and enjoy your Oracle experience inside the confines of a virtual machine whose networking setup you can configure and control to your heart's content, without it screwing up your real machine's ability to connect to your work's network when it needs to.

  • How can i import procedure with %ROWTYPE in Oracle 10.2 (paris) warehouse b

    Hello.
How can i import procedure with %ROWTYPE in Oracle 10.2 (paris) warehouse builder?Everytime i try to do it i get an error message:
API0411: Name should be an empty string.
If i comment out %rowtype i can import it without problems.
I have tried re-creating the procedure in OWB but once again i cannot find the %rowtype anywhere. the %type is there etc. I have tried to use Publish transformation / custom and cannot find %rowtypa there either.
Thank you very much for your help

Just in case you are having the same problem and cannot find any help anywhere - it is a bug in OWB.
I got in touch with Oracle Support and it appears that it is possible to import procedure/package with %ROWTYPE inside it, but it is not possible if the %ROWTYPE is in the arguments.
Just waiting for them to provide me with the bug ID.

  • Server Hardware for Oracle Database 11g Release 2 with Oracle Spatial

    Hi ,
We're to set up an Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Enterprise with Oracle Spatial.
Can you provide me the possible Server Hardware CPU / Memory specs , number of CPUs,type of OS and teh Model, for Spatial which a million users hits the database via a webservice?
The vendor suggested us SDD instead of HDD, any performance hike on this?
Budget seems to okay but I think Exadata will be too dear.
Your insights is much appreciated.Anything relating to setting up a server with spatial is greatly appreciated.
P/S: Been a programmer and don't knwo much about server hardware specs.

    It depends.
Seriously - before anyone can offer anything but generalities here you need to really define exactly what you expect the database to deliver.
In general however, I will throw out these questions and ideas...
For instance - you say a million users "hit" the database (via a web service). Is that WFS, WMS, KML or ???
Over - how long? A year? A month? A minute? A million hits over a year spread out evenly is only about 2 per minute.
And what is a hit? A single random record? Or about 10,000 records in the same spatial area... or? And for each record - are you returning simple point data - or hugely complex polygons with thousands of vertexes each?
How does this software work? Is it custom - or is it well known? Does it really query the database for every map (I assume it is a map service) feature - or does it read an area once and cache it in the middle tier? Or does it do something really smart and use cached tiles for static data - overlayed with vectors for dynamic data?
And although you say Oracle Spatial - are you really using Spatial - or just Locator functions (less processing in general)? And if spatial - are you doing raster in the db - or 3D analysis - or other special functionality?
SSD vs. HDD. - If you can buy a server with more RAM than the data set size (pretty easy these days) - and you do mostly reads (almost always the case for a map app) - buy a small cheap array of RAID'd HDD's - internal to the server is fine. Once the data is read into RAM - the HDD's do basically nothing.
Server CPU and memory. Amount - see above. CPU Speed (use performance benchmarks - not GHz numbers) AND memory speed (often overlooked) - buy as fast as possible. Why? You pay for licenses by the core (2 cores per license for x64). And HW is MUCH MUCH MUCH cheaper than Oracle licenses. Plan to upgrade HW every year if necessary to avoid buying more licenses (sounds crazy - but it is much cheaper).
This may seem like a lot - but these questions are just the tip of the iceberg. I have been in charge of spec'ing, building, and programming spatial systems now for about 20 years, so I have a pretty good idea of how to do enterprise scale computing on a Ramon-noodle budget.
Smart clean software is your friend - don't ask the HW to do anything unless absolutely necessary (cache results and reuse as much as possible), and you can get crazy performance from minimal hardware.

  • How can i save the data from the Oracle database to my local directory

How can i save the data from the Oracle database to my local directory instead Of saving the data file to the Directory created on the Oracle Server ?
I require to design the Procedure which will pull the data from various tables and needs to store the data in the Client's local directory.

Since SQL*PLUS runs on the client, you can use SQL*PLUS to spool data to your local drive.
You could also use the database to write a a specified drive where all users have access to (mapped network drive, e.g.). I wouldn't recommend doing it that way, but it is sometimes useful when the files are created in some nightly batch run.

  • Question about Oracle Database 11g: Program with PL/SQL

    Hello,
    I've read that:
This course is a combination of Oracle Database 11g: PL/SQL Fundamentals and Oracle Database 11g: Develop PL/SQL Program Units courses.
In order to preparing for this exam, i should read the student guide, so there are 4 pdf files. One is Oracle Database 11g: PL/SQL Fundamentals, and the other 3 are regarding to Oracle Database 11g: Develop PL/SQL Program Units (volume I, II and III). My question is, regarding to this last one (Oracle Database 11g: Develop PL/SQL Program Units), which volume should i read? I saw that volume I has 400+ pages, and the IIIrd ~80.
Which document should i read? What's the difference between them?
    Thanks!

Passing the exam and becoming certified are not a matter of simply reading a book or taking a training class. While books and classroom materials as well as in-class training are all important steps in preparing for an exam, experience and research are just as important. I cannot tell you that there are 53 questions on the exam and every single question maps directly back to page 13, paragraph 3 in XX book. However, If you have the classroom material, and you have the list of exam topics, you should be able to find most of the information you need. In some cases, if you are not completely familiar with a specific topic, or you don't feel like the information in the book gives you all the information you need, you may need to do a little additional research. This is all part of preparing for an exam. This process is what makes you successful as a certified professional.
Your focus seems to be solely on the course materials that you have and what volumes and chapters you should read. I'm trying to give you a different perspective - preparing for an exam is not necessarily about taking one course or reading one book and being ready. You need to review the exam topics and be sure that you are familiar with each topic.

  • Slow Problems with Oracle Forms 10g and Oracle Database 11g

Hi, I wonder if there is a compatibility problem between Version 10.1.2.0.2 32 Oracle Forms and Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production. This is because my application runs correctly on a version of Oracle Database 10g, and when we migrated the database to an Oracle Database 11g, slowness problems came out.
    Thanks.

We have the same issue happening with our custom forms and with some of the standard forms in EBSO. So far we have found that the form invoking a view causes ridiculous slowness in opening the form (40 mins). Using a table access has shortened the open time significantly. At this time Oracle DBAs at OOD have no clear idea why it is happening.
we are on 11.1 database with 11.5 EBSO

  • How can i convert data from DBF to oracle database 10g?

    Sir,
How can i convert data from DBF to oracle database 10g?

I assume you at least know how to dump the contents of foxpro dbf file into CSV format.
Regarding SQL*Loader, hope this demo makes it a bit clear to you...
    http://www.princeton.edu/~storacle/sqlloader_demo.shtml
I agree that it is an old web page (references Oracle 8.0.5) but basics remain the same.
If it is still unclear to you after referring above link, then get an Oracle consultant.

I want to uninstall Oracle Database 11g release 2.
Im executing the deinstall.bat that is on:

then in the command window, i get this message:

    What should i enter here?
    what is a listener?
    thanks..

    mseberg wrote:
Generally the default ( return key ) is correct.
The listener is the network feature that helps you connect. It listens for new connection attempts.
I like to think of it as a traffic cop which allows a connection, but has nothing to do with afterwards.
The Listener is a named process which runs on the Oracle Server, awaiting requests from Clients to connect to the Instance.
The listener does not normally handle connections after the initial request has been done. The listener listens on a port the default is 1521.
    Best Regards
msebergthanks a lot, i followed the steps and it is uninstalled now.

Did you look in the installation guide for the software requirement for 11.2? You could had easily found the answer from there by yourself.
