How to restore User's mailboxes, POP3's etc...?

hello
i'm a pc guy who's trying desperately to help a low-tech mac user to find
some lost mail settings. she was using the computer under an ex-user's
name, so a while back we used the sytem-cd re-boot options to change the
main user-name to her name (log on name), and to nuke the password, which
was a nusiance at log on.
well, under her new user id, she lost all her iTunes music and all her email
stuff. seems now that Mail wants to start a-fresh and set up new pop-3
accounts. Oddly enough, under LIBRARAY > MAIL in her user id name, all the
files seem intact, including the "plist" files, folders and MBOX data for
each mail account.
is there any way of "restoring" this stuff, so it can be accessed again?
we're using OSX 10.4.11 on a powerpc g4 laptop.
thanks for any assistance with this issue!

Hi Garbie, and a warm welcome to the forums!

How did you change the Username? IIRC you can't do that from Install CD/DVD, just the Password.
If you changed the Shortname in the Finder, see these...

  • How to restore user profiles

By mistake I deleted my user profile, so now when I turn on my machine I get a generic profile that doesn't have any of the programs that I prevously installed. I have the folder marked deleted user, but I don't know how to make it work. Can someone help me with this? When I look up users in the knowledged base it only explains how to delete users, not to restore them.

Open the Deleted User Folder and verify that the contents are your old account (BTW these are "accounts" not "profiles.") It's been some time since I've used Jaguar, but I believe you can re-activate a deleted account if it hasn't been erased from the drive and is still located in the Users folder.

  • How automaticaly create user's mailboxes with content for test purposes?

    Hi all!
Tell me please, how can i imitate outlook's users activity. In result i need 10...200 mailboxes with 100-200 elements (mail, calendar's events, meeting requests and etc) and up to 100Mb size of each mailbox. It's need for creating test environment.
    Maybe some script or programs?

You can use LoadGen tool of MS for simulating load on your exchange servers for various access methods. You can find it at below ling.

  • How to restore User

Can anyone describe how I can replace my User folder from a recent back up?
I don't use Time Machine, but I do use CCC to backup my User ƒ every week or so, and that backup is what I'd like to replace my current User which is giving me some issues...
    thank you!

Well you basically defeated the benefit of cloning, a hold the option key bootable backup of your boot drive in it's entirety, the software and hardware protection it offers.
So from here on out it's really just a manual reinstall now with just a copy of your users folder on the external drive like any other drag and drop copy method to a storage drive.
    Procedure
Copy all your current corrupted user file folders, Music, Documents, Pictures, Movies etc., in the Problem User Account to another separate drive and disconnect, this is a duplicate archive of your old stuff just in case.
Create a new Admin User on the computer and log into it, see if your issues persist or not.
Make sure you can access the backed up clean source of your files.
    Step A
If your problems persist, then your looking at "fresh install method" a hold c boot off the 10.6 installer disk and Disk Utility, Zero Erase your entire physical (example: "500GB Hitachi 49439539 media")  internal drive (maps off failing sectors, takes some time). Partition Tab, format 1 partition, Option: GUID, Format: OS X Extended (j), Name: Macintosh HD and  click Apply.
Quit and install 10.6, go through setup and use the same user name as previously, update to 10.6.8 via Software Update, install all your third party programs from original sources (as much as humanly possible for the best performance as you want your user files to be written as last as possible on the hard drive)
Last hook up your backup of your clean files and copy those folder contents directly into their respective Music, Documents, Pictures, Movies etc. folders. (not Library)
Make sure to do this exactly, don't make any changes to files/folders order etc until the links can be re-established in certain programs like iTunes, iPhoto etc that track the location of your files with their own files. Why it's important to use the same user name as before as it's contained in the pathname aka Users/JohnDoe/Music/iTunes. If you use another user name, or move your files around, it messes up the pathnames and you get question marks in iTunes as it can't find the songs anymore.
The rest of your "user" you'll have to tweak manually, the above steps of just file transfer to a "fresh install" is the best clean method as you don't want to copy Library over, it creates too much problems, better to create a new one. (in 10.7 Apple even made it a hidden folder)
    Step B
If your issues do not continue under the new Admin account, then delete the Problem User Account and see if  your issues really have gone away, if so, then create a new user with the same name as the old one with issues. Log into it and return your files from the clean backup source directly into their respective Music, Documents, Pictures, Movies etc. folders. (not Library)
I would put your question about cloning just a "User" back to your machine to Mike Bombich over at CCC, perhaps there is a method in CCC that does just that I'm not aware of, or he can implement a future feature so it's rather a easy click operation.
You never mentioned what your issue was in the particular problem user account, there are cache cleaning and "reset" utilities like OnyX (enable all accounts in preferences) that will clean out the caches (reboot after using OnyX) also check the preferences files for corruption (delete and reboot, reset preferences in those programs) that can cure a lot of "in user" issues without the drastic measures your asking about.

  • How can a user transfer purchased apps, books, etc. from an iPad 2 to an iPad 3?

How can I transfer purchased items from an iPad 2 to an iPad 3?

Do you sync with iTunes at all? If you do - all of your purchased content should be in your iTunes library on your computer. When you get the new iPad and sync for the first time, iTunes will ask if you want to restore from the backup of the old iPad or set up as new. Restore from the newest backup and then sync with iTunes and the new iPad will have all of the content that the old one has on it.
You may want to sync the old iPad just before you sync the new one to make sure that the old iPad backs up. You can even do a manual backup by right clicking on the IPad name on the left side of iTunes and select - Backup.

  • How do I restore old postfix mailboxes into a new OD user?

    Hello:
I've had to rebuild my OD from scratch, and I cannot seem to find a way to import the old OD user's mailboxes (from another 10.8.2 server) into the new mailboxes created when I created the new OD realm and users.
Nothing has been deleted, I just need to rebuild the references to the proper HEX-hashed in the Directory...
    HEEEEEELP!!

If the users old directory was AEAEAEAEAEAE
And their new dovecot maildir is:    EFEFEFEFEF
    rename AEAEAEAEAEAE to EFEFEFEFEF
    make sure permissions are correct
Of course, the tricky part is figuring out who owns each of those old directories.
you can go into the old maildir, look at a few message headers to see who they were sent to.

  • How to restore a user's calendar agenda

How to restore a user's Calendar agenda
When you delete users from LDAP and then re-add them to a Calendar node, they
    will be assigned new nscalxitemid's.
However, if you have not run any of the tools for removing these
    "orphan" entries, the old
    nscalxitemid's should
still exist in the Calendar database.
    <P>
To restore a user's agenda from the Calendar database, use the following steps:
    <P>
    <OL>
    <LI>Use ldapsearch to

    <P>

  • How to restore views and procedures after drop user command?

How to restore views and procedures after drop user command?
We have 817 EE on NT and one developer created a lot of procedures, functions and vews. DB was not backuped and archived and export has not been done - our fault and we understand it. Sorry for this.
Ok, now the story: another developer dropped this db user and we lost everything: procedures, functions and vews. The new user with trhe same name was created and new schema was imported in this user, but all old objects are lost. We don't have export and backup and archive log files.
Question: may we can restore this lost stuff from some other sources. We are looking for lost codes, not data. May be we can use redo logs or shared pool or any other things. Any idea will be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Victor
    [email protected]

The switch has occurred after user was dropped, the data has been overwritten and there is be no way to use redo log files.
I would like to explore another opportunity. Is possible to use Shared Pool or any Data Dictionary internal information to restore texts of the lost SQL and PL/SQL scripts executed in this DB before user was dropped? Not too many scripts are executed in this DB and the lost ones may still be in stack. I remember that Shared Pool (cash) should keep last executed scripts in order to improve performance. They probably are kept in some special format. Can we restore these scripts? Of course they also might be pushed out by Import that had been done after user was dropped.
    Thanks for your help,
    Victor

How do I hide my mailbox and mail contents from other users, leaving other functions of my iMac accessible?

You don't have to shut down the computer to switch accounts. All you do is click the Apple symbol in the upper left and choose Log Out and that's it. You can also set up Faster User Switching by:
    1. Open System Preferences - Accounts
    2. Click Login Options
    3. Check the box called "Show fast user switching menu as" then choose from either icon, short name or name.
Then when someone wants to switch users they can. The advantage of this method is if you are have a document open and don't want to close it the document will remain open. If the other user attempts to shut down the computer they can't until you have logged out thereby saving all your data.
A very simple and elegant solution.

    Hi Suman,
That's a good question.  ANONYMOUS is used for many thing besides Oracle Application Express.
Your best bet is to contact Oracle Support and see if there is an official recommendation how to restore this.
    I hope this helps.

  • How to add/restore user-defined presets (.cst files)?

Having recently fixed my corrupted install of GB2 with a clean install of GB3, I want to restore all my customized twiddles. Restoring all my self-made and 3rd-party loops was as easy as dragging them to the Loop Browser. I'm less sure about how to restore things like my self-made Real Instrument presets and so forth (all those fiddly .cst files).
From my old GB2 install, I archived the whole /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/ tree, so all my presets and everything are saved in their correct locations under that path. So, for example, I can drill on down to my archived [...]/Instrument Library/Plug-In Settings/Amp Simulation/ and find my old user-defined .cst presets.
When I drag them to the appropriate [...]/Instrument Library/Plug-In Settings/Amp Simulation/ location in the support files tree of my new GB 3 installation, I get a warning that I need authorization. This is presumably a permissions issue, and if I authorize it by typing in my admin password, my old .cst files will be where I want them.
But I have a nagging worry about whether they'll be correctly recognized by GarageBand when I then restart it. Is there some other better/different way to get my old .cst presets recognized in the new installation? Will they not appear because they haven't been indexed or something? I want to be sure of the best way to do this so I don't mess up my shiny new GB3 installation

    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Making the backup archive before futzing around is certainly a good idea And, yes, there is quite a bunch of Instrument Library stuff new for GB3 that wasn't there in my GB2! (I look forward to messing with it
When trying to copy my .cst and .pst files, when I clicked the Authenticate button on the you-ain't-got-permissions dialog box that came up, nothing happened. So I twiddled the permissions for the whole Instrument Library via Get Info, and then moved my stuff. That worked, though of course, Repair Permissions in Disk Utility won't fix them back now because the files aren't on the Start-Up disk. But, hopefully, it shouldn't really matter!
For some reason, it still wouldn't recognize the added .cst and .pst files until I'd trashed the GB .plist/.cs and restarted, but now it seems to be fine. It was a bit slow to respond when I tested things be selecting some of my newly restored presets, but perhaps that's because it was still indexing. I haven't really checked it all through thoroughly to make sure things sound all right, but the signs are good

I have a user "GIS", it's tablespace is USERS, there are only two tables in this user(RASTER_DATA and RASTER_DATA_RDT).
I put some raster data in "GIS", now I delete all data(delete from RASTER_DATA), but the tablespace USERS is still 7/10GB, how to "clean" the USERS?When you delete a row, or all the rows, the extent that was allocated for them stays allocated. De-allocating/re-allocating extents is a fairly expensive operation, and it is assumed that if a table once needed an extent it will probably need it again, so it is not routinely de-allocated just because it is empty at the moment.
