How to reverse hide desktop icons.scpt

this is a script i downloaded from some website i cannot find now, to hide the desktop icons... i did so successful when i clicked play.
now i kinda want it the old way where the desktop icons are displayed on the desktop! i remember reading that i can change some element of the below script to display the desktop icons again, but forgot what it is...
another one can help? please? thanks a lot..
try
set CurSet to do shell script "defaults read com.apple.finder CreateDesktop"
on error
set CurSet to "1"
end try
if CurSet is "1" then
set NewSet to false
else
set NewSet to true
end if
do shell script "defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop -bool " & NewSet
tell application "Finder"
quit
try
activate
end try
end tell
i tried changing 1 to 0 and running the script but it didnt work.
hope i didnt damage my os x or sth....

Jeffrey,
The script worked as a toggle for me. When I ran it the first time my desktop icons hid; I ran it a second time and the icons were back. No need to change any values.
Try pasting the same script into your Script Editor and hit the Run button. Look for the icons to reappear. If you decide to save the script as an application you should, for obvious reasons, save it to somewhere other than your desktop. You can place it in your dock afterward and run it from there, e.g.
See if that works... Good luck!

I have added audio to my PDF. How do I hide the icon?

    Thanks
I have just changed the size of it to very small instead so that it doesn't dominate so much and set it on auto play and am happy with that.
    Thanks again

  • How can i hide the icons on my desktop

I have some folders that I placed on my desktop for now trying to organize them however I don't want to see the icons. How do I hide them.

This makes no sense to me.  If you hide them how can you organize them.  Please explain further what you are trying to accomplish.
You can open the desktop in the Finder and change the view to "list view"

  • Hide desktop icons on secondary monitor?

I have these command scripts in my Dock and click on them when I want to hide or show desktop icons:
    defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop false
    killall Finder
    defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop true
    killall Finder
It works great. My question is, how do I write these so they hide the desktop icons on my secondary monitor?
    Thanks!

Never mind... restarting fixed the problem.

  • Hide desktop icon and keep text

I would like for my desktop not to have icon, but still have the text for the shortcut. I know you can accomplish this by making the icon a transparent image but, it still has the highlighted box around the transparent image when you click it once. Is there a way to get around this?

I use Overflow which does that stated above but even better as it doesn't require opening and closing a seperate folder, or right-clicking, for your files.
    The link for Overflow: http://www.stuntsoftware.com/Overflow/
I'm also trying out DockYard: http://www.belkadan.com/dockyard/
    and a review: http://downloads.zdnet.co.uk/0,1000000375,39309691s,00.htm
Now, anyone know how to remove/hide icon title text from the Dock?

  • Lion hides desktop icons

Sometimes, (I still can't understand the exact conditions, looks like completely random) Lion hides all my desktop icons and "deactivates" desktop (nothing happens when I'm trying to "select" - no selection rectangle is drawn).
Maybe it happens when I'm minimizing applications or when quitting ones, but it really makes me mad - I just realize that no icins are shown on the desktop at the moment.
Switching desktops restores the functionality and shows all the icons.
Any idea what happens and how to solve this?
P.S. And, a couple words to Apple - Snow Leo was a dream. Lion is some early-released glitchy crap that I every day think of removing and really asking for my money back.

In that case, there may be a problem with your Finder preferences or window settings.
Try removing these files, then restarting:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    ~/Desktop/.DS_Store
Let me know if you're not sure how to do that.

  • Can i hide desktop icons?

is it possible to have no icons on the desktop showing.
for example, in windows i just right click on the desktop, arrange icons by, and then click show desktop icons. which either hides/shows the desktop icons.
is it possible to do something similar with mac?

    hiya,
when i put a '.' in front of the file name, it comes up with a message saying "...these names are reserved for the system".
if i can help it, i don't want to install a programme, just so i can use one of its features i.e. hiding desktop icons.
the reason i want to hide my desktop icons is so i can just see my wallpaper.
is there no simple, say for example, turn on/off desktop icons? or something along those lines?
    thanks.

  • Hide desktop icons in workspaces

Hi there. Is there anyway to hide all the desktop icons but from specific workspaces? I found an app called DesktopUtility which does the job but it hides them from all workspaces.

I have the same problem on 10.9.2.
Looks rather worse on my icon-strewn desktop!

  • How do I stop desktop icons from moving around - Windows 7 Professional 64 bit?

This just started occuring 7/8/12.  Recently added UPromise turbo saver to my Internet Explorer.  Also did a Java update.  Can't really remember if they were done before or after problem began.  Now, all my desktop icons flip around and will not lock into where I place them.  How can I stop this.

Hi there makeyesup!:Well you have 2 choices; go to Control Panel then look for System Recovery then follow what you see on your monitor if you see a calendar, that is System Restore select the latest date that you can remember your icons acting normally then restart anew & wait until the program straightens it out it should be as good as new
    2. right click your rodent & look for anything that says Arrainge icons... hit auto or whatever gets them normal
    3. restart PC then before the desktop shows up press the F8 key the look for & select "Last good configuration that worked" then restart
    good luck
    hope this helps

  • Hide Desktop Icons

    Hello all,
I have seen various posts around the place about hiding your desktop icons by turning the desktop "off", but i would like to hide select icons of my choice.
Mainly I would like to hide the hard drive icon, but i cant work it out? Does anyone have any ideas?
    Cheers,
    r00tb00t

in addition to what francine said, i find it useful to turn off the selection for hard drives showing up as i have tons of partitions and drives, some of which are clones of other ones etc, but I then make an alias of the ones that i decide i DO want on the desktop.
even better in leopard is that you can hide certain options that still leaves a newly inserted CD showing up on the desktop, without tons of other ipod's and disks showing up that you don't want. up until leopard i think the new CD remained hidden along with other removable drives and disks.

How can I restore the icon on my desktop for my hp 1000 printer. want to check ink levels, print test page, etc.

What operating system?  I recommend not using the software CD as it may be out of date.  Get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.

  • How to increase Lion desktop icons more than 128?

    Hi everyone,
is there a way to increase the size of desktop icons more than 128 px on Lion?
I've found these lines of code on the web to run in the terminal but i think they're for previous version of OSX and they didn't work:
defaults write com.apple.finder DesktopViewOptions -dict IconSize -integer 256
    killall Finder
    any suggestions?

But on the desktop the slider max size is 128,
I've found that if you modify this file:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/ViewOpt ions.nib
and change these lines (N° 6469):
    <key>NSMaxValue</key>
                                  <real>128</real>
    to
    <key>NSMaxValue</key>
                                  <real>256</real>
you can actually move the slider in the desktop view options until 256 but the icons remain 128, any idea?

  • How do i get desktop icons out of the hide mode???

my baby got on my computer and started pressing the keyboard and now my icons are hidden. i have only had my computer for 6 days so i have no idea how to get the icons from the hide mode. when i put the cursor down to the bottom of the desktop the icons pop back up but as soon as i move the cursor up they disappear. please tell me how to get them back to how they were thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Somehow your baby has activated the hidden Dock preference. Go to the Apple menu and choose System Preferences... In Sys Prefs choose the Dock pane. There is a check box to automatically hide or show the Dock.

  • How do I get desktop icons to reflect the orignal associated application and open correctly?

Product Name: HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC
    Product Number: A1U55AV#ABA
    Operating System: Windows 7 (x86)
All desktop and start menu icons are identical.  As such, the incorrect application opens when clicked.
How do I restore (system restore hasn't worked) so the correct application is associated with the icon?
HP Customer Support in India has been working on this for weeks and seems unwilling to escalate to someone, preferably US-based, more knowledgable in order to resolve the issue.

    Hi Meibach,
this sounds like malware - I would recommend a full antivirus scan.
However if yo uare having no other issues I found the following steps online:
To Reset Icon cache follow the below mentioned steps –
    1. Right click on empty area of the desktop and click on Personalize.
    2. Click on the Display Properties link.
    3. Under Colors, select Medium (16-bit) and click on Apply.
NOTE: If you already have Medium (16-bit) selected, then select Highest (32-bit) instead. Sometimes you will need to do a restart first, then proceed to step
    4. Try both ways.
        A) Click yes to confirm the new settings.
    5. Now, select Highest (32-bit) and click on OK.
NOTE: If you already have Highest (32-bit) selected, then select Medium (16-bit) instead.
       A) Click on Yes to confirm the new settings.
To Rebuild icon cache follow the below mentioned steps -
    1. Click Start, then control panel and in the search box write Folder options.
    2. Now click Folder Options to open and select (dot) Show hidden files and folders.
    3. Open a Windows Explorer window.
    4. Go to C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Local
    5. Right click on IconCache.db and click on Delete.
    6. Click on Yes to confirm the deletion.
NOTE: This deletes the file to the Recycle Bin. It is safe to empty the Recycle Bin when finished.
    7. Close the window.
    8. Empty the Recycle Bin.
    9. Restart the computer.
    10. When you go back, you will notice the Size of the IconCache.db file is smaller, and the Date Modified is now the current date.
NOTE: If for some reason IconCache.db is not there or the size has not changed much then you may just restart the computer again. You may need to restart a couple of times in some cases.
    11. The icon cache will get rebuilt.
