How to revert from iCloud Drive to regular iCloud on iOS 8 (iPad)?

Hey all,
I recently updated my iPad's OS to the new iOS 8. As part of this update, we get the option to upgrade to iCloud Drive from the old iCloud system. While I am sure this new system has a number of useful features, it has unfortunately taken away the absolute most important aspect of my productivity at this moment. I am a medical student, and I have been using Notability on my MBPr 13 (OS X Mavericks, latest version) and on my iPad. With iCloud, I was able to sync my files and notes seamlessly. Now that I have updated my iPad to iCloud Drive, there is no such iCloud Drive feature for the Mac and my syncing has been disabled. If there is ANY solution to this, I would greatly appreciate it. I am certain that other such programs have been disrupted because of this iPad/Mac incongruence with respect to the iCloud Drive system.
Thank you in advance!
Steven

Thanks for the advice re: backing up and installing the OS. Just so you know, it is not an issue of Accessing the iCloud Drive via the website, but rather having it installed or integrated etc. into my desktop OS such that a particular app (Notability) is able to sync across my laptop and iPad devices. Though it may seem trivial, when you are manipulating multiple .pdfs, writing hand-drawn notes/diagrams/annotations across lecture slides, and creating presentations that you are presenting from your laptop to the class, this functionality really increases productivity. It was simply a pleasure to use the app across my devices before.
That being said, thank you for the info, I may take the Yosemite Beta plunge, but not quite yet. I am waiting to hear from the developers (Ginger Labs) of the app to confirm that the syncing will work well on Yosemite Beta.

My own opinion is that you should install the later appropriate version of Silverkeeper. That said, I would in fact recommend if you can wait a few days for an answer, that you email the La Cie Silverkeeper backup team via the email link on the site at http://www.lacie.com/silverkeeper/
They are careful to say they are not officially providing a backup service, but when I emailed them with a query regarding usage about a year ago after downloading Silverkeeper for myself, I got a reply within a couple of days that cleared up my question.

  • Why can I only see iCloud Drive and not iCloud in Finder?

Why can I only see iCloud Drive and not iCloud in Finder? The latter is not available either under Favourites or Menu>Go>...
After a clean install of Yosemite 10.10.3 on a MacBook Pro, I chose not to upgrade from iCloud to iCloud Drive because it would break syncing with my iPhone 4. My docs are still visible in iCloud, according to System Preferences. I can access them on my iPad but I not from my MacBook Pro. Calendars and Contacts sync ok.
I tried logging out of iCloud, rebooting and logging back in, but that did not remedy the problem.
    What's gone wrong?

Just so I'm clear. You have enabled iCloud Drive in your iCloud preferences:
Now, in your Finder's sidebar you still do not see the iCloud Drive showing. In the Finder's preferences is it checked:

From the Ipad manual - actually the same in Ipad, Ipod, Iphone --- the support site listed has frequently asked questions on Icloud drive.
    Set up iCloud Drive
You can set up iCloud Drive using Setup Assistant when you install iOS 8, or you can set it up later in Settings. iCloud Drive is an upgrade to Documents & Data. When you upgrade to iCloud Drive, your documents are copied to iCloud Drive and become available on your devices using iCloud Drive. You won’t be able to access the documents stored in iCloud Drive on your other devices until they are also upgraded to iOS 8 or OS X Yosemite. For more information about upgrading to iCloud Drive, see support.apple.com/kb/HT6345.
Set up iCloud Drive. Go to Settings > iCloud > iCloud Drive, turn on iCloud Drive, then follow the onscreen instructions.

  • When will my icloud folder reflect memory upgrade? I am trying to move files from google drive folder to icloud.

My icloud folder does not reflect storage upgrade.  I only had 25GB on my google drive and I have 500GB on my icloud but cannot move these files over. Whats up?

How much free storage do you have on your system drive?  Since all files on iCloud Drive will be mirrored on your system drive as shadow copies in your user library, you can only keep as many files on iCloud Drive as can be kept on your system drive as well.
You cannot use iCloud Drive to save space on your system drive, if that is what you are trying to do.

  • How do you attach an iCloud drive file to email in iOS 8?

I've just updated to the iOS 8 and the only feature I was looking forward to was iCloud drive actually letting me manage files properly - e.g. attach a file to an email. However, as far as I can tell, there's no way to actually do this. There's no "attachment" button in the mail app and you can't even access the iCloud drive via a quasi-finder view to copy/paste... Has Apple forgotten that people like to email attachments to each other?

Likewise, there seems to be no way to save an attachment to iCloud Drive in iOS 8. You can send it to all kinds of other applications. Real life scenario from yesterday:
In train with my iPad. Received pdf document from client A that I wanted to send to another client, B. But I need to do this as a reply to a mail from client B, not by forwarding the mail from client A. HA!, iCloud drive I thought, and pressed the "open in" (document with arrow pointing upwards) symbol. It will let me open in 20 different apps, but not anything related to iCloud Drive. In addition, there is no way to actually insert anything but a photo or video into a new mail. To send something else as an attachment, you will have to start in an app that handles the file type (so I could have gotten half the way by opening the PDF in PDF Expert, or another PDF program, and used the "Send by E-mail" option there - still wouldn't have allowed me to send the doc as a reply to another mail - let alone extracting the file from the mail and getting it synced back to my mac via iCloud drive).
Had to get my Mac from my bag, connect to my phone hotspot, wait for the mailbox to sync, and do the sending from OS X Mail.

  • Where is the iCloud Drive app icon (folder) in iOS 8? Like the one the show on their website.

I am running Yosemite on my Macs and updated to ios8 on all of my iPads and iPhone. Yet, I have found no way to access my iCloud Drive folder on the mobile devices. The Apple website for iCloud clearly shows iOS devices viewing an iCloud drive folder with end user customized sub-folders. I called tech support and they agreed that that's what the website was showing but informed me that as iCloud Drive and ios8 are so new they did not know yet how to set them up. I arrange my files by project not program and I need to view PDFs and other non iWork's files. Does anyone out there have a clue? Thank you.

I'm not using it, but my understanding is that you can only access iCloud Drive documents on an iOS device from within an app that is iCloud Drive compatible.  At least at the present time, there isn't an iCloud Drive app for an iOS device that provides general access to documents.  See http://www.imore.com/icloud-drive-clearing-up-confusion.

  • Is there any way I can downgrade iCloud Drive back to iCloud?

When setting up my iphone 6 in the Apple Store before I could stop him, the guy turned on iCloud Drive. since then, all of my Documents in iCloud no longer sync across all my devices. I have an iMac & MacBook  both running Mavericks as I do not want to upgrade to Yosemite until Apple have fixed the Wifi & Mail issues. Now when I change any document I have stored in ICloud or add a new Document the changes or new Document do not appear in iCloud on any of my other devices & I get the stupid not compatible error message. This is becoming very frustrating!
Is there any way that I can downgrade to the old iCloud until Yosemite is fixed & I can upgrade all of my devices to iCloud Drive? Can anyone help as I am getting really fed up of Apple messing up with new OS's. I really thought that Yosemite would launch without problems as the beta was available ages ago .Grrrrr

You're welcome.  Actually, Apple does provide a warning when you first attempt to turn on iCloud Drive (see below) but the guy at the store didn't warn you about it.  (I guess it doesn't explicitly say you can't revert back to iCloud though.)

  • Changes made on a mac (iCloud drive) are not reflected on IOS device?

I have installed Yosemite and have flicked on 'iCloud Drive' - I am not able to see the changes that were made on a mac being reflected on the IOS IPAD device. I can however see these reflected changes on my iPhone?

As far as I understood there is no such an app like "file manager" for the icloud drive. So its impossible to access your files from your iOS8 device..!!! Amazing ah!!! Therefore you CAN'T read .pdf files!!!. ibook doesnt work for that job. Another surprise in the post-Jobs Apple!!

  • Will iCloud drive ever have its own iOS 8 app?

Whether I sign up for iCloud drive or not depends on me having an app to access my MS Word documents (ideally a free one). Has Apple indicated whether an app is likely, or ruled it out altogether?

Nope. Apple has said nothing about an App to directly access iCloud Drive one way or the other.
However, there are other Apps in the store that do have this ability.  Documents 5 by Readdle is one such App and happens to be free.

  • HT201104 iCloud Drive access through Safari on iOS

This may seem like an obvious omission (at least in my mind), but I would have thought Safari on iOS would access the iCloud Drive when I choose to upload a file? Any reason why not?

If you are using iCabMobile Web Browser and you set Browser ID to Safari 5 (Mac), you will be able to access icloud.com

  • How to revert from Authorization Without an ID to Authorize Adobe ID or Vendor ID?

When I downloaded Adobe Digital Edition, I was given the option to Authorize my purchase with and ID or Without it. I obviously, had no idea what that meant so I went ahead and selected without ID authorization. Turns out I am not able to share my book on any other device, wich of course I found out much later on after hours of figuring why I couldn't install the book on my tablet. Please help!!!! how do I revert this? Many thanks

You can restore iCloud data if you don't know the ID and password for the account it is stored in.  If you think she may have used yours, go to icloud.com from your computer, sign in with your ID and password and see if it's her data in the account.
She can also try to find her ID as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5625.  Then she can reset the password as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2617.

  • Used iMac (fall 2006) has no OS.  How to install from flash drive?

We purchased a used iMac from Notre Dame University.  The hard drive has been completely wiped clean, as is their policy.  We have a USB flash drive with
Mavericks on it, but when we follow the installation instructions, nothing happens.  We get the icon "OSX BASE", but when we select it, the mac goes
to a gray screen with a flashing question mark and never moves from there.  Any advice is helpful.

You will need to call Apple and order a set of replacement disks for your specific iMac Model, or purchase a Snow Leopard DVD.
"Fall 2006," is not a good enough description, as there were both Mid 2006 and Late 2006 iMac 17" models and a Late 2006 iMac 20" model.
All of these models shipped with versions of Tiger 10.4, and all are compatible with Snow Leopard 10.6.8. The Late 2006 models can be further upgraded to Lion 10.7.5, provided that they have the minimum 2 Gigs of RAM.
None of these iMacs would be compatible with Mountain Lion, Mavericks, or Yosemite.

  • How remove files from hard drive, retain on iPod?

Does all music have to be permanently stored on my computer, to have it on my iPod?
I have purchased CDs in the past, I still have the CDs and they work fine. I have imported them into iTunes, synched them to my iPod. That all works.
Question: I want to save space on my computer, it's a laptop. I want to delete some of the music files from my laptop hard drive and keep the songs on my iPod. Can someone tell me how to do this?
I have a 45 Gig hard drive in my Powerbook and a 30 G iPod. I don't want music files to permanently take up half the space or more on my Powerbook hard drive.
    What can I do?
    thank you,
    Bill

If you want to delete songs from iTunes and keep them on the iPod you need to change the update option of your iPod to "manually manage music and videos" (this setting isn't available for an iPod shuffle, you can't delete from iTunes and keep the songs on the shuffle). The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different, you can get details here:
Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
    iPod - Syncing Music
One major word of caution. If you delete songs or videos from your computer and have no back up other than the iPod you will risk losing them permanently if your iPod fails or you find you have to restore it to solve a problem. You should consider investing in an additional internal or external hard drive to store/back up your music. Alternatively at the very least back up anything you can't replace such as iTunes downloads to CD or DVD or an external drive:

Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Too many bugs! How to revert from 2.1.0 to 1.4.5 (SFR builds)

So far I have uncovered the following bugs/problems in 2.1.0 SFR build, causing me to revert to 1.4.5:
    1. SMS's are sometimes sent to different recipients than displayed, when this happens the message is found under both IDs.
    2. Phone doesn't match caller ID to contacts on inbound calls when country code is missing in the caller ID.
    3. The phone takes 4 seconds to look-up contacts when typing in a name in the dialer
    4. The SSL bug, preventing you from browsing some sites
    5. Alarms "just dissapear" (when setting a daily alarm - it suddently is just gone)
All in all, these bugs in conjunction with no real improvements in 2.1.0 makes a downgrade to 1.4.5 inevitable.
Can anyone please help me understand how to find a 1.4.5 OS Doctor?
Post relates to: Pre Plus p100ueu (SFR)

    Hello!
First I do appologize for these troubles.  We have already discussed your 4th issue from another post but for the others I need to ask some questions:
    1.  SMS's are sometimes sent to different recipients than displayed, when this happens the message is found under both IDs.
The contact that your use to send out the SMS, is is linked to other contacts maybe to those that the phone sent sms too as well?
The additionals that got the SMS, you do see them in the conversation views in Messaging?
What kind of troubleshooting steps have you already done since upgrading to 2.1.0?
    2.  Phone doesn't match caller ID to contacts on inbound calls when country code is missing in the caller ID.
Do these contacts in your phone have the country code already in them?
What account are the contacts comming from?
In Regional Settings app, what country is selected in the Phone Numbers box?
    3.  The phone takes 4 seconds to look-up contacts when typing in a name in the dialer
Approximately how many contacts do you have on the phone?
Have you tried a restart yet?
If you have any SIM contacts, is the SIM card on the phone a 3G SIM card or at least one issued with the Pre Plus?
    4.  Alarms "just dissapear" (when setting a daily alarm - it suddently is just gone)
Does the alarm dissappears right after setting or later on it could dissappear?
Have you conducted any erases of the device since upgrading to 2.1.0?
Please keep me posted on these.  As for downgrading to 1.4.5, we only support the latest version for a given device so we do not support dowgrading the device to an earlier build.  Do appologize for this.
