Please suggest on how to run a openssl command from a java program.
I am using this
Runtime runtime = Runtime.getRuntime();
runtime.exec("openssl pkcs8 -inform der -nocrypt test.der result.pem");
This is suppose to take test.der as input and create result.pem.
There are no errors but the file result.pem isnt created.

First off is that openssl command correct? Should it be this instead:
openssl pkcs8 -inform der -nocrypt -in test.der -out result.pem
Try out your openssl command within a command prompt so that you know that it works ok. I think the command line you specified waits on stdin (well it does for me).
After that.....
runtime.exec creates a Process object. If you do this:
Process openssl = runtime.exec("....")
then you can examine the return code from openssl to see the exit code - for instance if the input file does not exist then exit = 1. You can test for this with Java
Alternatively you could get the stderr from the process and look inside it - if it is 0 length then all is good, if it has some text in there then it has likely failed. You could then throw an exception and include the stderr output in the exception messgae. You may need to experiment with this, runnig it first when openssl is happy then running it again when openssl is upset.

1) SQL statements
2) PL/SQL blocks
3) any valid sqlplus command.

Just beware that the HOST command (or the shortcut version of it alluded to by Warren Tolentino) spawns a child process. When control comes back to sqlplus, that child process is gone.
What is the business problem you are trying to solve? If we knew that we could probably give better advice than blindly giving you the correct technical answer to a narrow question.

How can I run a DOS command from an Oracle form (i.e. open the calculator located at c:\windows\system32\calc.exe)?

first of all get the environment variable for the c:\windows\system32 direcotry for any of the windows
you can use get variable from the ora env package
now cancat the system32 variable with the calc.exe string
now pass the string with host command as parameters
this process will work for all type of windows.

As an aside, I will attempt to get rid of the READY deployment and deployment unit using deactive_deployment.sql
Now, if I attempt to use deactivate_execution.sql on any of the executions with status BUSY I get:

So all the seems to remain is to use abort_exec_request.sql
This does the job, but the script itself hangs.
I think it has to do with the l_stream_id not being checked again after the initial IF. I think it should probably be part of the loop condition as it is again reset in the do_acks inside the loop.

How to insert data which contains '&' from SQL*Plus without asking prompt

Hi,
I want to insert data in table from SQL*Plus but data value contains '&' as given in below example(insert script).
There are 10000 rows. When I load from SQL*Plus it is asking for 'value for :P'.
I dont want to replace '&' with 'and' also there should not be prompt for asking value for :P.
Example
Insert into CS_Tracker (TrackId,FeedBack) values ('ARARGE034678','S&P');
Insert into CS_Tracker (TrackId,FeedBack) values ('ARARGE034676','S&F');
Insert into CS_Tracker (TrackId,FeedBack) values ('ARARGE034677','A&P');

How to run multiple DOS commands from a single Webutil Client_Host session?

Hello all,
I have a requirement where I need to create an interface with SVN from Forms for basic checkin-checkout of files.
So, I've been trying to use webutil client_host to open a command line session and issue svn commands.
For svn, sometimes I need to give multiple commands like change to a particular directory and then run an svn command.
But client_host takes in only one command at a time and I'm unable to issue a series of DOS commands to perform
a particular task.
Is there a way to do this?
Pls suggest.

First your original question... You can put more than one DOS command on a single line, simply separate each command with an ampersand (&). For example:
mkdir c:\abc & cd abc & dir*
Regarding your concerns about performance, well that would depend on exactly what you mean. Using CLIENT_HOST (or HOST on the server) simply opens a shell (DOS in this case) then passes your command to it. The performance of performing this action really isn't measurable. Basically you are just pressing a button and you should get a near immediate action. As for the performance of executing each command, that has nothing to do with Forms. Once the command is passed to the shell, the rest is a function of the shell and whatever command you passed.
Having said that, if you were to write something sloppy like a loop (in pl/sql) which called CLIENT_HOST lots of times repeatedly, then yes there would be a performance problem because the pushing of the button will cause an exchange to and from the server and each cycle in the loop will do the same.
So the answer to how performance is impacted will depend on what exactly you need to accomplish. If it is a single call to CLIENT_HOST, this should be fine.

I want to pass an unix command from a Report. I am running the report (Report 2.5) on an Unix server and I want to pass a unix host command inside the Before Report Trigger of the report. But Report2.5 is not recognising the HOST built-in. Is there is any way around?

I need to create few directories in the Unix O/s under a specific directory (From a Database Trigger). And the directory names will be determined in the DB Trigger based on the data.

Xcopy Command From Sql

I have Script of my all the procedure.
After all procedure gets execute, As a output it create .csv files.
This .csv files i manually copy past on one of my directory.
For avoiding this manual copy past i want to use xcopy command from sql itself.

Please guide me how do i do this.Do not like the sound of the architecture you are using for this. Scripts? Scripts for Oracle should be limited to installing s/w.
Writing any kind of Oracle application using scripts, is questionable ito design, robustness, flexibility, security and so on.
Wanting to use console commands from a SQL cursor? That sounds even more broken and wrong. If you want to do o/s calls, it should be done carefully and securely from PL/SQL code.
And PL/SQL code should be inside the database - not outside in some script.
As for copying files. Realise that SQL and PL/SQL code executes on the server inside an Oracle server process. This does not have access to your client's file system and directories.

SQL works from SQL*Plus command line but not as a DBMS_JOB submitted job

Got a procedure which does not run correctly as an Oracle job but runs fine as a SQL script.
There are no Oracle errors (or any errors) of any kind when the job does not run fine – it just does not update any rows. But when run as a SQL script – the same way it is run as a job – then the rows are updated.
Any ideas?

a) Different NLS settings => The job uses the NLS settings of the session that created it. If you create it with some tool like TOAD, you might have a different environment than with sql*plus. Runs good in TOAD and SQL*Plus using the command-line feature - just 'acts funky' when submitted.
b) Interval issue. Are you sure the job was running? Isn't still running? The job runs successfully - even logs a successful message in our logging table.
c) User/priviledge issue. Sometimes a job needs direct grants whereus a procedure can be called with priviledges granted through roles. Don't know - need to check this out.
d) Transaction handling / Error Handling. The job runs into some error, but the error is supressed, because of bad exception handling. What is the value in the BROKEN column, when you do: select * from user_jobs; I would think that, since the errors are logged into a side table, an error would be found there. However, no errors are found. The BROKEN column is 'N'.
