How to scope beans for a JSF Confirmation Page

I have a web form with corresponding backing bean for each input field. I have two buttons on the form. Here is some of the page:
<h:inputText id="clientName" value="#{clientBean.company}" required="true"/>
<h:inputText id="clientContact" value="#{clientBean.contact}"/>
<h:commandButton id="btn_Submit" value="Submit" action="#clientBean.save}"/>
<h:commandButton id="btn_Cancel" value="Cancel" immediate="true" action="cancel"/>
Navigation rules display a confirmation page with the inputs the user has entered, and the cancel button brings them back to a simple menu screen (where they can click a link and re-visit this web form).
IF THE MANAGED-BEAN-SCOPE for clientBean is set to REQUEST, I cannot use the bean attributes to populate outputText elements on a confirmation page (they are no longer in the current request). (I'm OK with this....)
IF I SET THE MANAGED-BEAN-SCOPE for clientBean to SESSION, I can use the attributes of the managed-bean to drive the confirmation page, HOWEVER... if the user fills in the form and clicks CANCEL, then re-visits the web form, the values they entered prior to clicking Cancel are pre-populated in the web form.
I've even gone as far as to have the Cancel button fire a cancel() method on the clientBean where I set all backing attributes to empty strings. That doesn't work either.
Is there a way I can remove a managed-bean instance from the session scope entirely when the user clicks Cancel? Or is there a preferred method of ensuring that form values make it to the confirmation page using request scoped beans?

I'd the same problem ever.
It's not a good way to do these clear in the cancel button,
for users maybe not click the cancel button, but click others links on the page
and quit, after a while, then goto the form, there will be the previous data
displayed as click back on the confirm page.
at last i resolve the problem by adding a page before the form page.
all links to the form page are linked to the new page,
in the new page,
1st, clear the state of the managed-ben(clientBean),
there were a few ways to do this,
(1), change all the properties of the clientbean to a default value.
(2), remove the clientbean from the session(JSF will create an new instance when it remove from the session)
2nd, redirect the request to the form page.
You may write only one page (the clear-state and forword page) for all form in the application by passing the managed-bean to be cleared as a parameter.
Hope be helpful for you.

  • Do we write one model bean for every JSF UI page?

    First, Please excuse my minimal knowledge in JSF, I am just starting to crawl :)
    Is my understanding about JSF that you will be writing one model bean class for every JSP page you have, CORRECT? (this is just my understanding, I may be wrong)
    This will be getting hard for large application.
    Ideal scenario: Say you have a JSP page A.jsp to associate an action reference you write a model bean class and have appropriate get method to return an Action object.
    Can we write an Action class, separated from the model bean class. I tried to create 2 different packages and one which just had a simple model bean and the other package had a Action class. I was not able to get this working as it was bouncing back with a Method innovation/Illegal argument exceptions. I am very confused here is it a necessity to write the action method in model bean or can we separate it? If we can separate it can we package it in to different packages?
    I may be confusing in explaining my questions but to put it black and white
    A)
    1 JSP Page (uses JSF components) = 1 model bean class (?)
    or
    B)
    1..n JSP pages (uses JSF components) = 1 or may be 2 model bean class (?)
    If B is possible how do we get the action classes towards this architecture and how can we get access to the various model bean objects in a single action class.
    Sorry for my vagueness....
    Thanks
    Ram

    In the particular case of your separate Action class,
    you still need a getter method for it somewhere. I
    find it easiest to include this getter in the same
    model bean that contains the data, but it doesn't have
    to be. Craig,
    It seems to be the consensus that a getter is required, but I've had perfect luck registering a single Action class in the application scope:
    <managed-bean>
      <managed-bean-name>fooAction</managed-bean-name>
      <managed-bean-class>org.bar.FooAction</managed-bean-class>
      <managed-bean-scope>application</managed-bean-scope>
    </managed-bean>And then referencing it directly:
    <h:command_button commandName="foo" actionRef="fooAction"/>This feels more like the Struts approach to me, as there's a single instance available. (If I wanted thread saftey, however, I could declare it in the request scope instead). I use this approach when there's no data associated with the Action (like a LogoutAction).

  • How to layout beans for single page design

    Hey guys. I'm designing a site that uses the Icefaces framework. I've been reading a book called Real World Java EE patterns. I'm kind of confused how to layout the pages. Normally I would have just a POJO class implement serializable for a bean. This bean would then back each page. With a single page design I'm going to have a bunch of elements on the page. Datatables, trees, inputs, calendars etc. Is it normal or best practice to have separate beans for each datatable, calendar, etc or put that all in one bean? I'm not sure how to approach this. Right now each element is a bean and I'm using the @Inject annotation to have the data table talk to the tree and vise versa. This creates really bad code and if I put this as a member of the class I will get a circular reference because the data table bean has to inject the calendar and the calendar has to inject the data table.
    Thanks for any help.

    'best' practice is to not follow blindly what other people say, but to reason yourself what works best for you. It has been stated many times before and I will state it again: best practice does not exist. Only personal opinions about what is best exist. Personal opinions are not facts.
    So choose what works for you. Is the code easy to maintain? Is it readable? Can you perhaps re-use parts of it? Then I'd say you have a winner.
    I'll give you my personal favorite. When working with a page that has input elements, I tend to have two or three beans. Replace XXX with a logical and context sensitive name.
    XXXForm - this is a simple request scoped bean that has the action and event methods and will hold some data for reading purposes for the view, possibly taken from a database.
    XXXStorage - this is a session scoped bean that holds information from the form; if it is an editing function I initialize it with the current state first. Storing this stuff in a session bean makes it very easy to do Ajax stuff and create input cycles that span multiple requests. Also when data is split in multiple pages, the storage class is the one to remember which page is being displayed.
    Optionally, I also have an XXXSearch object, which is a session scoped bean that stores search/sort/filter parameters. I make this session scoped so the information is remembered for the duration of the user's visit, meaning he can navigate away from the page in question, come back and all his choices will still be in place.
    So no, I don't have beans specifically for each component, although I might make simple POJOs to hold information gathered from several sources (for example, information gathered from several database tables). These beans are generally used to fill the rows of a datatable and are just created from within the form class, for example in a @PostConstruct annotated method.

  • How to use beans in more than one page

    hello members,
    can somebody tell me how to make beans availabe to more than one page ,i used scope variable as "application"
    in which i set the value of java bean and in that page it show all values of that bean even it modified
    but when redirect to another jsp page it does not show modifided value,it shows its default value
    what shld i use tell me
    following thing that i use in forwarded jsp page
    <jsp:useBean="same id in previous jsp page", class="same class", scope="application"/>
    and then i am using boolean variable which set false default ,but i set it manually though
    setfuction (assume) in original jsp page,but in redirected page it showing it value fasle
    i don't know why
    can somebody (Bean Bond) help me in this problem
    i will very thankfull to you
    plz..................

    My dear friend,
    your scope is wrong. Since you run a JSP page and you want it available everywhere, the only thing that all pages have common is session. So changing your bean scope to session will keep the bean variables and the rest you have on it.
    Try it and let me know.

  • How does session bean contain in the JSP page

    May i know how session bean contains in the JSP page
    If the situation is like the following ...
    if i dont want to put the session bean in the session
    like this :
    session.setAttribute("UserBean",userBean);
    the way i get the session bean is only
    session.getAttribute("UserBean");
    Does have the other way to get the Session bean during the JSP
    if i dont want to use this kind of way,
    what else i can do for?
    may i know the solution with detailed
    and please attach the solution of code to me if you know...
    thanks...

    Hi,
    I am not clear with ur query..
    What I understood from ur query is that, u are trying to put the session ejb in the HttpSession Object for some use ahead in future?
    If this is the case, then I think are approach is not correct.
    StatefulSession beans are meant for this purpose, i.e they will be maintaining the client session. So use the same using the JndiLookup of the HomeInterface and the getting the Home reference and calling the businessmethods

  • How to create a XML Form with confirmation Page

    Hi!
    I need to create a XML Form that have a confirmation page to enter de data and save it (into XML file).
    It's possible to make it with the XML Forms Builder, or I need to make it manual at xml & xsl??
    (Sorry about my poor english!)

    Hi Ernesto,
    there is currently no confirmation message available in the XMLForms EditForm. But you can use the "preview" button to show how it looks like, before you are using the "Save" button.

  • How to make bean for embedded task flow stay in scope when calling TF?

    I have a bounded task flow with page fragments: ManageRecommendationRuleTF.xml that defines a single managed bean with pageFlowScope: ManageRecommendationRuleBean.java
    This task flow has one page ManageRecommendationRule.jsff that embeds two other bounded task flows as regions: ManageRuleTF.xml and ManageRuleConditionsTF.xml
    Each of these task flows defines a single manage bean with pageFlowScope: ManageRuleBean.java and ManageRuleConditionsBean.java
    From the ManageRecommendationRuleTF I call a bounded task flow: SelectTargetProductsTF.xml. When this task flow returns, the ManageRuleBean.java and ManageRuleConditionsBean.java are re-created. Why? I want the state of the beans before the SelectTargetProductTF is called. I do not want to resort to making this a session bean.
    Build JDEVADF_11.1.1.5.0_GENERIC_110409.0025.6013

    Hi,
    the calling task flow is stacked when calling another task flow (using task flow call activity). When the called task flow is returning to the caller then the expected behavior is that the caller task flow is re-established. If this is not what you see, please provide a test case and file a Service Request with support to investigate why this is not working for you. You could e.g. add log messages to the task flow finalizers to see if when navigating off to the called task flow the two region task flows are finalized. If the regions are dynamic regions with the bean in view scope, try and change this to pageFlowScope

  • How to set bean property in jsf page

    Hi,
    Hopefully theres an easy solution, but I can't figure it out...
    I have a managed bean that spans several jsf pages.
    Within each page I want to set a flag that tells the bean which page it is serving (as well as some other params).
    How do I set a property of the bean in the page?
    I've tried
    <jsp:useBean id="filter3" scope="request" class="com.aol.rsistats.ui.FilterBean"/>
    <jsp:setProperty name="filter3" property="filterType" value="3"/>
    but that doesn't load the page through the normal JSF routine (and I initialise some values of the bean in the faces-config.xml file... so these are not initialiased when the setProperty is called) .
    (In general I get some strange behaviour when I mix jsf tags with jsp, or jstl, so I've avoided it as much as possilble)
    Is there another way?
    Cheers,
    Keith

    This example works for me (using jsf-1_1_01).

  • How to create slideshow for pictures on blank page

    G'day,
    I'm just starting to use iWeb 09 and would like to ask a really basic question. My apologies in advance if it has been asked and answered in the past.
    I have created a page using the "blank page" template and added some text and pictures. On the photo page, I understand that you can click on a photo to see a larger version and to run a slideshow. Is it possible to create this functionality for pictures placed on a blank page? Or is this functionality only available on a photo album page?
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards,
    Doug

    Doug:
    I believe you can do so. Create the photo page, click on the thumbnail layout box and copy it. Go to the blank page and paste. You'll have to lengthen the page using the Inspector/Page/Layout pane so the entire thumbnail layout box is visible in the body. Then go back and delete the photo page.
    This test slideshow page was copied from another site in iWeb and pasted on a blank page: PhotoCopy. It seems to work just like the Photo page.

  • JSF CDI : Conversation scope bean[s] best practice

    *JSF CDI : Conversation scope bean[s] best practice*
    Hello, im currently learning about JSF 2.0 and im so glad for the existence of this conversation scope feature, which is very helpful in opening a new tab or a new window on the same page and having separate resources, not overriding one another.
    But im curious on how to implement this in a good way, about when to start the conversation and when to close it.
    In my case, i have each CDI bean for each JSF page. And let's say that i have a menu, and when it's clicked, this will lead to page A, and from A, could lead to B, B could lead to C, C could lead to D, all these 4 pages are connected in one chain.
    Accessing A's bean properties from B or C or D beans is possible, accessing B's properties is also possible from C or D beans and so forth.
    Now im quite confused about :
    * whether all these A B C D should be in conversation scope or not, or perhaps just A ? Because i think sometimes from another page that is outside the ABCD chain, like a page F, it could navigate to page B, although i dont know how to supply the data to the bean B yet.
    * whether all these A B C D should be combined into one bean
    * where and when to start the conversation, im thinking about the constructor, but i dont think it's a good idea, because i prefer starting the conversation when first accessing the page, not the bean
    * where and when to stop the conversation, so that there wont be unused resources hanging around
    Regards,
    Albert Kam

    There are also some commandButtons on the view page, which performs actions on Product object, fetched by passed ID.

  • Redirect confirmation page

    How do I redirect the web form confirmation page to a custom page? Somewhere in the code for the form?

    Yes, either by adding manually &PageID=XXX to the action code:
    <form action="/FormProcessv2.aspx?WebFormID=10090&PageID=XXX&amp;OID={module_oid}&amp;OTYPE={module_otype}&amp;EID={module_eid}&amp;CID={module_cid}">
    or you can use the built-in functionality: More Actions > Get HTML code > "Redirect after submit": enter url.
